• Staff was nice, very clean and easy to park and find.
• Everything was great, best experience out of many.

“Nice place to stay. Has everything you need and is close to downtown Madison, also easy to get to the interstates. Staff was great and was there if you needed anything. Breakfast had everything you could eat.”

• Good bed. Friendly staff at desk.
• Weak shower. Asked a king but had 2 doubles. Hotel was not anywhere near capacity.

“I like to stay at this hotel when I drive out east for a night. It is in a good location relative to the interstate and services. I am very pleased with the price but would not ever stay at this place. In short, it's a decent place with a great bed for an overnight stay. The shower in the accessible room they gave me on the return was too week to get the soap out of my hair.”

• The housekeeping and construction that woke us up at 8am.

“This hotel is very nice. My main complaint is that housekeeping came into our room at 8am and woke us up. After that we could not go back to sleep due to the sound of power tools, banging, and talking from the construction directly above our room. We were not told at check-in that there would be maintenance going on throughout the hotel and had to find out by a discreet sign in the elevator. After our complaints we received a free breakfast which was cold and we had to pay gratuity.”

• Staff was very accommodating; room was nice but a bit shabby, very clean.
• Restaurant too expensive.

“Hotel rooms were undergoing renovation, we could have been placed elsewhere in the hotel as certain room renovations started early and the noise from the machinery was not pleasant. Hotel room was very clean; the staff was very friendly and accommodating. Restaurant was a bit too expensive for us, but looked very nice. Would definitely recommend this hotel to friends.”

• Upscale feel; reasonable price; Close to variety of dining options.
• Not a thing.

“Fantastic. My brother and I share our love for Chicago Cubs baseball with his oldest (age 10) and my oldest child (age 9) for the last several years. Madison is a great stop over on our way to either Milwaukee or Chicago. A good location to spend the night on our way from or to home (Sioux falls, SD). The swimming pool is a definite plus and the quality of the room is first rate. Both my brother and I are traveling professionals and have stayed across the nation. We both agree that the Crown Plaza is among the finest accommodations found anywhere. Keep up the great work.”

• Bartender was very friendly.
• My room smelled strongly of sewage!

“Perhaps this hotel is a fairly nice place to stay most of the time. However, during my stay I was given a room which smelled strongly of sewage. I believe this was due to the construction occurring in rooms very close to mine, as I could not only smell sewage from an open toilet, but could also hear hammering and sawing very early each morning.”

• It smelled disgusting.

“I'll never stay there again. The hotel has its pool right in the lobby. This means a very nasty chlorine smell in the lobby and restaurant, as well as the sound of kids screaming throughout the hotel, even at 11 pm when we checked in. Additionally, the hotel uses a very strong coconut like fragrance in the rooms that literally made my eyes water and my stomach sick. I was hardly able to sleep. They said all the rooms had it, so moving didn't make sense. I think they use the stuff to try to hide the musty smell.”

• No air conditioning!

“They did give us a fan, since our air conditioning didn't work. They didn't have another room for us that was a non-smoking room with air conditioning. They did provide us with free breakfast at the restaurant since our air conditioner didn't work. Otherwise it was a nice hotel.”

• Hallway smelled terrible, room didn't seem as nice as in the past.

“We have stayed at the Crowne Plaza before and had previously been very happy however this time we were placed in a small room; and the hotel hallways smelled terrible. I didn't appreciate the staff not telling us about the smell which did come into the room. It was very disappointing for the price. I will stick with the 2 1/2 star hotels in that area they are much nicer and not so costly. So much for a romantic weekend.”

• Pool temperature was too warm.

“Crown Plaza is the best hotel I have ever stayed at. The swimming pool was clean, beautiful to look at, but the water temperature was too warm. I did tell the staff). Room was so clean (even felt good to walk around barefoot), and neat and the bed was very comfortable-with fluffy pillows. They have a wake-up call that you can actually rely on. Even free apples at the front desk. Couldn't even hear noise in the hallways. I love this place, can't wait to stay again.”

• The staff were all great! Facility with the pool, room and Arcada we really loved.
• Didn't like that we were on the baby floor and had to be quiet during the day.

• Great location off freeway.
• Two small beds. Would have preferred one larger bed.

“Fine hotel. Nice lobby-pool area. Odd placement of pool right as you walk in. I probably would have felt a little self conscious with all incoming travelers being able to look into pool as they walk in. Nearby restaurants/shopping, but everything closed early. No place to get a bite after 11 and no place to get a drink after midnight. Hotel bar was closed. Comfortable if small room. Nice bed. Friendly staff. Would recommend.”

• Very classy, with many amenities.
• The front desk took my request for a roll away but did not tell me the bed had a pullout couch.

“A group of five of us (three in late 20s, two in early 60s) traveled to Madison for a weekend of pub crawling and standing in line for tickets to a beer festival. We arrived at the hotel around 1 pm after stopping at the first brewery. The front desk graciously provided my wife, myself, and our female companion with a room but strangely could not provide the same for the old folks traveling with us. I think it's anti-retirement discrimination. So after we went out and got drunker we had to bring the old people back to our room to get their stuff. Room was cool. Had a fun sleep CD that made me giggle. Bed was comfy too, I think. Biggest complaint about this hotel is the pool in the front entrance. Who wants to see fat people in bathing suits upon arrival?”

• Damp rooms border the pool area and smell moldy/mildew.

“The staff is very friendly and eager to please in general. Overall a great place. They really need to effectively address the damp rooms that border the pool area. I've stayed several times and about half the time I am assigned one of the damp rooms and have to be relocated to a non-damp room. The staff is flexible and have always relocated me when I have requested it. However, what happens when there isn't a non-damp room available for me to move into is a question on yet answered.”

• My truck window getting smashed.

“Would definitely not recommend a stay here. Two trucks had their rear windows smashed on the night of April 25. When I brought this to the attention of the staff, they said they would sweep up the glass but would not vacuum out my truck. The staff member recommended a car wash down the street to clean out my truck. Both my wife and I asked to speak to the manager. We never received a call. We left a few hours after seeing the damage to our truck. I can't begin to describe the frustration we felt. The hotel staff treated us as though we were burdening them with extra work. And when I contacted the hotel's corporate office, I was told that the hotel is not responsible for any damages to cars in its parking lot. By the way, the room was noisy from the HVAC; the carpet smelled like puke; the bathtub drain plug did not work properly; the beds were lumpy; and the staff was horrible. Stay at this hotel at your own risk.”

“This is a wonderful hotel. The pool was warm and inviting, the lobby was attractive, and the beds are the best of any hotel I have ever slept in. I have a $1500 bed at home and these beds in the hotel were just as comfortable.”

“Very relaxing. Friendly staff tried hard to accomodate you and their positive attitudes rubbed off on the guests. Water was warm in the pool. Exercise room well maintained and a fan to direct as you desired.”

• The deck and chair in the room was the worst for working on.

• This is a nice hotel to stay at for leisure or business.
• Hot tub was not working

“This is a nice hotel to stay at to get-away for the weekend or for business. The staff is friendly. The only thing was that when we went down to the pool on Sunday morning, the hot tub was "under maintenance." But hopefully that doesn't happen too often. Overall, good experience.”

“I would stay here again. It was close to lots of shopping and great dining. Easy access to highway. Hotel is very clean and pool area nice. I was a little disappointed by the whirlpool being out of order. I was really looking forward to relaxing in it.”

“Crowne Plaza is an older hotel that has been renovated nicely. Decor is warm and attractive. Quiet floor is a welcome innovation. Beds very comfortable as is room seating. Some problems with room temperature.”

• Very grand lobby, much unexpected for this star rating.
• I can smell cigarette on a non-smoking floor and in the room.

“Great hotel with a beautiful and resort like lobby. The room was spacious but very dry and poor ventilation. The room and bathroom were cleaned. Nice Decor. The cleaning crew comes around very early 7-8am and yells in the hall way: 'Room Service' and knock on every door. One can smell cigarette from somewhere, presumably from the vent even though my room is a non-smoking room on non smoking floor.”

• We called and asked ahead for a single bed - they said they'd try, but couldn't accommodate us. I doubt they were sold out.

“I stayed in this hotel a couple of weeks ago for business and thought it would be nice place to bring my family back to for a night. However this time our room was not very well kept (old, outdated) and overall felt less clean. I will avoid staying here again. There are just too many good hotels to stay in rundown old hotels.”

• I really liked the amenities. The pool and hot tub were very clean, elegant and open.
• Rooms were too conventional and the room was dull.

“The hotel is great. Very bright and open lobby with pool close by and open and bright. Bar was fairly active and had a DJ at times. But as is par for the course, the drinks were too expensive. I'd look to use the rewards group instead though because they can give a pretty good deal and upgrades are more available.”

• Bad place, to Embassy Suites, much better.

“This was by far the worst place I have ever stayed! The value would have been better at a motel 6! I have never stayed at a middle grad to high grad hotel that did not have a Free continental breakfast. We were given a $28 dollar bill for 2 breakfast's that we thought was a free continental breakfast. It was a small selection, no one helped us, and yet we had to pay this. We confronted the front desk, they could have cared less, we left a voice mail for the manager and an email, we have yet to hear back! The room was incredibly hot, there was no way to cool it down. They ended up bringing a tiny fan in, but still did not do much. I think long story short, this location is trying to live off the name of their other Resort locations and so they think they can charge an arm and a leg for nothing but a mediocre room and service! go ro Embassy Suites for great rooms, great service, plus a free made to order continental breakfast, also free drink hour at the bar.”

• They charged an arm & a leg for the continental breakfast! $27+ for two and it was a buffet style.

“This hotel location in my eyes is living off its name and the luxury of the other resorts. This is not a resort, but yet they feel they can charge as though they are one. We have stayed at hotels that have better staff, way better rooms, and a free breakfast made to order that is by far better than this place. I have had a better room and better staff at a motel 6! We will never stay at this place ever again. bad, so not worth the money.”

• It was not a 3 1/2 star hotel, maybe a 2 ½.

“Great location, early check in, late check out, forgot my toothbrush they gave me one. Beds were super comfortable with lots of pillows. Heat did not work so the first 8 hours were freezing cold as the maid left the window open and allot of snow came into the room making the floor wet. Maintain. Man came in and fixed the heat and from then on it was good to go!”

• The hotel is a little dated; the hot tub was very foamy.

“The staff was nice, the rooms are average. Parking can be a little congested, as well as the road in front of the hotel. The hotel is a little dated; ceiling tiles with water damage could be replaced above the restaurant. Hotel amenities are a little pricey. Pool is nice. Over all, the place is ok.”
