• Location was great.
• Old feeling room, needs updating.

“ Nice enough hotel, room was pretty old though and AC was not working well, room had a slightly damp feel we got in late and did not bother to switch rooms. Note you will need to pay for parking as well. Hotel was very nicely appointed though and staff was very friendly for the minimal interaction we had with them. ”

• The beds, pillows and overall room.

“We would not recommend this hotel and actually chose to check out a day early despite being pre-paid for 2 days and find another hotel for the 2nd night. The beds were ungodly uncomfortable and the pillows were travel size seemingly filled with bags of cotton balls.”

• The health club facility is clean and relaxing.
• Parking was extremely troublesome and expensive.

“The hotel staff was pleasant and helpful. Our overall stay was nice, especially due to the comforting hot tub and pool in the health club facility. Parking at the hotel, however, was expensive and inconvenient. On street parking was more suitable for our needs.”

• The price was good, the amenities were favorable.

“We enjoyed our stay there; however, we ate breakfast in the restaurant, and the service was not good. They were very slow. The waiter said he would bring water and didn't. The waittress was not aware of menu changes and didn't bring fruit with what was ordered. When I asked about fruit with my meal, she wasn't aware fruit should come with it. It was listed on the menu with the dish that I ordered. Prices were high for what we ordered. The hotel room was clean. Parking was available next to the hotel and parking fees were reasonable.”

• I liked the hotel restaurant at breakfast.
• When I arrived the room seemed stale (no air movement, phone unplugged).

“The staff was helpful. The bed was nice to sleep on. I did not like the temperature of the room. It did not seem to get cool enough for me. It seemed as if the room had not been used for a while because the phone was unplugged and the room was stuffy when I first entered. Self parking was difficult to navigate. The hotel's location was centralized and allowed me easy access to my training site.”

“This was a nice enough hotel. It had a pool, but I wouldn't recommend swimming. The high chlorine level destroyed my son's suit. Good thing he didn't go in the hot tub, his suit would have dissolved completely.”

• The walls and ceilings are thin. We could hear everything. The bathroom was also not clean upon arrival.

“The rooms are quite small and, because it's an older building, the walls and ceilings thin. Noise is heard easily. The hotel staff is friendly and accommodating (sent security to noisemakers without hesitation). We did find it very expensive for what you get for the money, but it's a nice place. There were hairs from the previous guest on the floor of the bathroom when we arrived, which made us question how thoroughly the room had been cleaned prior to our arrival.”

• No notification of construction on parking lot - this posed a daily problem.

“Accommodations were good, clean, appealing. The staff was quite friendly. My only issue was that the adjacent parking lot was under construction and so an $8.00 valet service or timed street parking were the options left. When I called the hotel the night before our arrival, no mention was made about the construction.”

“The hotel is nice and relatively clean. It is conveniently located and was affordable. The rooms were a bit musty and need more air flow and the twin beds were way too small for a family. There was one day where they did not make up our room until 6 pm when we were returning. The parking garage was under construction. We had to use the valet park which was not discounted because of the garage construction. The staff was friendly and knowledgeable.”

• Waking up the pounding construction at the hotel.

“At first impression, I was very pleased. The valet was extremely helpful, and the room appeared to be quite nice. However, I asked for the best room possible as we were celebrating a special occasion. I felt as though my request was greeted with sarcasm, and our room had a view of nothing more than the parking garage rooftop. To make matters worse, we woke up to the pounding of the jackhammer on the garage. The girls at the desk the next morning said he could easily have put us on the other side of the hotel to give us a view and reduce the noise, but it appeared he had a made an intentional choice to contradict my request. It was somewhat disheartening. My rating on service above was only so high because the valet folks were great as were the desk personnel the following day.”

• It is a perfect location for walking to the various historical sites.
• Their parking garage was under construction, so we had to park in a separate facility or on the street. Also, there was only 1 computer.

• Close to major tourist attractions.
• Walls seemed thin - could hear other guests often.

“The room was comfortable, spacious and clean. The beds were new (we saw three huge Serta trucks delivering new mattresses to the hotel while we were there). The pool was great for our kids (6 & 8) and the staff was exceptionally pleasant and friendly. The location is amazing. Even the elevators were great never had to wait for more than a minute or so (even when they were loading the mattresses). Admittedly, some of the fixtures in the room were dated (faucet, shower, counter top, etc.) but not nearly as dated as some people would have you believe. For those folks who are looking for marble countertops and top-of-the-line furniture and fittings, look for a five-star hotel in Chicago or New York! Your experience may vary but we had a great stay and will recommend this place to friends and family. Our family had an awesome time staying at this hotel in Springfield!”

• Parking was a block away and cost $6 per night; no free wireless in room.

“The Abe Lincoln in Springfield is a nice enough facility but as is the case with so many so called 3-star hotels. They charge for just about everything (and this is above and beyond the room cost). Parking was terrible. You had to park in a public parking garage a block away from the hotel and it cost $6 per night. In addition, if you wanted wireless internet in your room, it cost $10 per night (totally ridiculous). And as is the case so often, breakfast at a 3-star costs many bucks extra.”

• It was the perfect place to be for touring new Lincoln Presidential Museum (a few blocks away).
• Parking was a big problem since new multilevel hotel parking lot was not ready yet.

“It appeared to be a very well managed hotel, professional, clean and certainly under-utilized while I was there. The staff was above expectations. Since it is in the heart of the downtown area, it fits the needs of many different travelers. It's not the kind of place I would want to spend more than 2-3 nights though. As mentioned parking is a problem at the moment due to new construction next door. But, I would stay there again without hesitation.”

• The front desk staff was welcoming and helpful with local attraction questions.
• Parking garage is under repair an $8 fee is added for valet. With no mass transit parking costs add up quick when coming and going.

“When we got there the with streets were closed down by the hotel and it was difficult to get to! Also had a festival. Gus Macker basketball tournament in the street next to the hotel and a VFW convention at the hotel.”

“The hotel was really old and looked like it has not been cleaned from a long time. The carpet was black from wear and covered in stains. One bed seemed to be broken and the other had spiders in it. The toilet was broken and I had to fix it. Very disgusting. I will never stay there again.”

“This hotel is in a perfect location for tourists, near everything you want to see. Whole our room was clean and just fine for what we needed, this is not a 3 or 4 star hotel. Furniture is stained, there are scratches on the wall and cigarette burns on the carpet. And it wasn't a smoking room. The hotel is owned by the state of Illinois, which has budget problems, so I'm not surprised that the hotel hasn't been renovated. But, the room was cheap. The staff was very friendly and helpful - couldn't have been better. My advice is to take the cheap rate and not except a high-class hotel.”

• I liked the location in downtown Springfield - in walking distance to Lincoln sites.
• I would have preferred not to have to pay for parking in the hotel garage.

“Overall, it was a nice stay. The location was convenient, just blocks away from the Lincoln historical sites. The hotel had a pool and exercise room, which were small, but ok since there were not many people using these amenities. The room was clean.”
