“I will certainly stay at the Hilton as I liked the attitude.” Aug 5, 2008 by
Steven from Round Lake, IL
“The room was comfortable, spacious and clean. The beds were new (we saw three huge Serta trucks delivering new mattresses to the hotel while we were there). The pool was great for our kids (6 & 8) and the staff was exceptionally pleasant and friendly. The location is amazing. Even the elevators were great never had to wait for more than a minute or so (even when they were loading the mattresses). Admittedly, some of the fixtures in the room were dated (faucet, shower, counter top, etc.) but not nearly as dated as some people would have you believe. For those folks who are looking for marble countertops and top-of-the-line furniture and fittings, look for a five-star hotel in Chicago or New York! Your experience may vary but we had a great stay and will recommend this place to friends and family. Our family had an awesome time staying at this hotel in Springfield!” Aug 5, 2008 by
John O. from Hoxie, KS
“The Abe Lincoln in Springfield is a nice enough facility but as is the case with so many so called 3-star hotels. They charge for just about everything (and this is above and beyond the room cost). Parking was terrible. You had to park in a public parking garage a block away from the hotel and it cost $6 per night. In addition, if you wanted wireless internet in your room, it cost $10 per night (totally ridiculous). And as is the case so often, breakfast at a 3-star costs many bucks extra.” Aug 4, 2008 by
Steve from Naperville, IL
“I did not think that the hotel was upscale however it was clean, convenient and the staff was very courteous.” Aug 4, 2008 by
Christine from Aurora, IL
“Great location, needs updating. Friendly staff.” Aug 2, 2008 by
Pat from Seattle, WA
“It appeared to be a very well managed hotel, professional, clean and certainly under-utilized while I was there. The staff was above expectations. Since it is in the heart of the downtown area, it fits the needs of many different travelers. It's not the kind of place I would want to spend more than 2-3 nights though. As mentioned parking is a problem at the moment due to new construction next door. But, I would stay there again without hesitation.” Jul 30, 2008 by
Tara from East Alton, IL
“The room was spacious and very clean. The staff was friendly and welcoming. We even had a call in the evening from the front desk to see if we needed anything.” Jul 29, 2008 by
Ann from St. Charles, MO
“The quality of this hotel is on par with a budget motel. What a disappointment!” Jul 23, 2008 by
Barb from Marseilles, IL
“Near attractions, ok for a short stay but parking garage was under renovations and hotel smelled musty.” Jul 23, 2008 by
Joe from Bastrop, TX
“Nice and clean.” Jul 21, 2008 by
David from Mount Prospect, IL
“This is a decent hotel with average rooms. It is not a 31/2 star hotel by national standards.” Jul 21, 2008 by
James H. from Wheaton, IL
“Nice old hotel with very classic feel. Well maintained. Nice bathrooms with large vanity. Bad experience with the valet parking. Right now you can only valet park with the construction going on, as I understand it.” Jul 16, 2008 by
Maryann from Florissant, MO
“Nice hotel but the staff was rude.” Jul 16, 2008 by
Jeff from Groveland, IL
“When we got there the with streets were closed down by the hotel and it was difficult to get to! Also had a festival. Gus Macker basketball tournament in the street next to the hotel and a VFW convention at the hotel.” Jul 11, 2008 by
Cathlyn from Oconomowoc, WI
“Very nice, older appearance. Great if you wish to visit historic sites, not so great if you are looking for a restaurant.” Jul 10, 2008 by
Lori from Independence, KS
“Although the public areas of this hotel are very nice, it seems that the glory days for this hotel were about 20 years ago. The room was comfortable but the furnishings needed significant updating. The staff was very friendly and helpful when we needed a few band aids, first aid ointment for my son's scuffed knee.” Jul 9, 2008 by
Dustin from Bloomington, IL
“The hotel was really old and looked like it has not been cleaned from a long time. The carpet was black from wear and covered in stains. One bed seemed to be broken and the other had spiders in it. The toilet was broken and I had to fix it. Very disgusting. I will never stay there again.” Jul 8, 2008 by
Ashley from Saint Louis, MO
“This hotel is in a perfect location for tourists, near everything you want to see. Whole our room was clean and just fine for what we needed, this is not a 3 or 4 star hotel. Furniture is stained, there are scratches on the wall and cigarette burns on the carpet. And it wasn't a smoking room. The hotel is owned by the state of Illinois, which has budget problems, so I'm not surprised that the hotel hasn't been renovated. But, the room was cheap. The staff was very friendly and helpful - couldn't have been better. My advice is to take the cheap rate and not except a high-class hotel.” Jun 28, 2008 by
Tiffany from Mccullom Lake, IL
“Overall, it was a nice stay. The location was convenient, just blocks away from the Lincoln historical sites. The hotel had a pool and exercise room, which were small, but ok since there were not many people using these amenities. The room was clean.” May 22, 2008 by
Marilyn from Chicago, IL
“The overall stay at the hotel was a good one. For what the Hotel offers, it is what it is, a conference center.” May 18, 2008 by
John from New Lenox, IL
“Nice hotel in a great location that has an attractive appeal inside. However the rooms are, at best, ordinary with comfort and cleanliness not leading the pack.” May 18, 2008 by
C. A. from Dennison, IL
“Grand relic of past glory. If you appreciate historical settings and accept that a historical building like this will have smaller rooms and some limits on amenities, this is a great hotel. Hotel restaurant was adequate, if pricy for what was offered (avoid room service and go for the breakfast buffet). Overall, a hotel staffed with very helpful and accommodating staff. The open, friendly welcome and service reminded me of the era of the hotel, before major chains began stamping uniformity.” May 17, 2008 by
Dave from Aurora, IL
“Clean, convenient and excellent customer service.” May 15, 2008 by
Pat from Chicago, IL
“The location of the hotel is within walking distance of many of the Lincoln tourist sites and the state capital buildings. The accommodations were quite comfortable and the staff were friendly and helpful.” May 14, 2008 by
Janet from Lookout Mountain, GA
“This hotel is the perfect location for seeing all the Lincoln sites without moving your car. The staff was very friendly and helpful. Public parking is adjacent to the hotel, you can access it without going outside. The bathroom was a little dated, but the elevators served the hotel well. I would not have wanted a different hotel.” May 12, 2008 by
Mary E. from Lerna, IL
“Lobby area was nice. Did not dine there. Location was great but one of the most uncomfortable hotels that I have ever slept in. Would not recommend this hotel to others simply because of the old decrepit beds.” May 5, 2008 by
Chris from Westfield, IN
“This hotel is a dump. It's the worst 3 star hotel. It's old, and is bad need of a re-model. The furniture and beds are straight out of the 70's. Just because a hotel has a conference center, a restaurant, and a piano in the foyer, doesn't make it a nice hotel. And giving a hotel a historic name like, Abe Lincoln Hotel, is not an excuse for having old dirty rooms. Avoid this hotel and stay across the street at the Hilton.” May 3, 2008 by
Diane from Peoria, IL
“I've stayed at the Westin Diplomat/Peabody/Drake/Marriott presidential suite and the service which my family received at this hotel is on the list of hotels mentioned.” May 2, 2008 by
Tracy from Carbondale, IL
“Next to Prairie Convention Center, friendly staff. The waiter at Lindsay's Restaurant was slow, lazy, and put our dessert charge on another customers bill. Check your bill if you eat at this restaurant.” May 1, 2008 by
Amanda from Kankakee, IL
“The hotel provided a nice stay for us. We had great accessibility to the interstate, as well as, had all our needs met with a nice fitness center, sauna, and pool, as well as were able to enjoy a delicious breakfast buffet in the morning. Even though we encountered a suspicious bed sheet situation on our 1st night, we were offered either another room or to have our sheets changed immediately. They were very accommodating and helpful.” Apr 27, 2008 by
Scott from Portland, OR
“Very nice rooms and accommodations and the location is great.” Apr 25, 2008 by
Amy from Arlington Heights, IL
“Our first nights stay was totally adequate. The second night was the worst night I have ever experienced in a hotel. My husband, myself and 3 children were placed on a floor with an entire fraternity. Nonetheless, it was so loud an noisy, we did not sleep the entire night. Despite numerous calls to the front desk, they were unable to control the unruly behavior of the frat boys. After our 4th call downstairs, we were told that it was our own fault because we did not switch room when the called us to. We never received a call from anyone. Needless to say the next day our trip was ruined because everyone was tired and cranky.” Apr 18, 2008 by
Jennifer from Muncie, IN
“Location excellent had indoor pool (small) with hot tub and a sauna which was nice. Also had a workout room and internet in room off of lobby. Room was a disappointment. Needed updated and had small TV (did have a lot of channels though).” Apr 16, 2008 by
Matthew from Madison, WI
“Overall great hotel! Very clean, and the rooms were very nice with a lot of space. Hotel staff was very nice and helpful. You have to pay for parking which is the only down side ($5 a day).” Apr 16, 2008 by
Angie from Quincy, IL
“I have stayed in this hotel probably 5-6 times and have been satisfied with level of service. When we go it is for a state dart tournament and we don't spend much time in the rooms.” Apr 15, 2008 by
Chad from Aurora, IL
“Conveniently located in Downtown Springfield.” Apr 15, 2008 by
Wendell from Evergreen Park, IL
“An older hotel kept up well with good customer service.” Apr 14, 2008 by
Penny from Lexington, IL
“This hotel was a three star 10 years ago. It is a very busy hotel as it is attached to the convention center. It needs to have a general updating.” Apr 11, 2008 by
Amy from East Peoria, IL
“An interior update is desperately needed. Everything seems very dirty. My room looked orderly, but the surfaces of everything were filthy from the beautiful lobby area to the elevator to my bathroom. I appreciated the polite personable ness of the front desk staff.” Apr 9, 2008 by
Norvelle from Plainfield, IL
“Overall, it was a pleasant experience. It was close to everything and easy to get to. The staff was friendly.” Apr 8, 2008 by
Jennifer from Oak Lawn, FL
“If visiting any of the Lincoln sites, this location is great.” Apr 8, 2008 by
Mark from Oak Park, IL
“This is a classic hotel with everything one needs. The general decor is very pleasing though the room I was in was getting dingy and needs an upgrade. The conference rooms are also very well laid out and it is an excellent place for a conference. The location is great in terms of being in the Downtown area.” Apr 7, 2008 by
Lisa from Chenoa, IL
“Very nice hotel centrally located to all of the Lincoln sites. Easy to get to from interstate and parking close to hotel. Nice selection of amenities, except continental breakfast, should be included with the hotel stay. Minimal traffic around and near hotel. Restaurant attached to hotel lacked a comprehensive menu and was over priced, but the food was good.” Apr 7, 2008 by
Jim from Chicago, IL
“Great location for visiting the historic sites in Springfield.” Apr 6, 2008 by
Richard from Grayling, MI
“This is a very old hotel. Being the room was so old, it would need a lot of work to bring this hotel up to a level to compete with other hotels in the area.” Apr 5, 2008 by
Lou from Shannon, IL
“The staff was very nice and helpful. The rooms were in need of remodeling. The carpet was very worn and dingy. The furnishings were worn. The TV was small. However, the room met my needs of a place to sleep overnight.” Apr 5, 2008 by
Meg from Naperville, IL
“This hotel was conveniently located, but not a 3-star level. The decor dated back to the 80's, and that's a compliment. Carpeting had spots and was dingy. Staff was friendly and helpful, however.” Apr 2, 2008 by
Edward from Oak Lawn, IL
“The public areas were much better kept than the room in which we stayed, however even these could use a good spring cleaning and fresh paint. I was not comfortable walking around my room without my shoes and I took the bedspread off because it was stained.” Apr 1, 2008 by
Michelle from Whitewater, WI
“Here's my caveat - If you're a traveler specifically in Springfield to find Lincoln, it's a perfect location to the historical sites and has the charm (antique light fixtures and armoire in the room) to get you in the mood for travel back in time. If you're in Springfield for business or a convention, and you demand perfectly "new" and trendy furnishings, this isn't the hotel for you. The location is absolutely fantastic. As far as complaints of paying for parking, it was a non issue as I had no problem parking my unloaded vehicle two blocks away for free on the weekend. If visiting on a weekday - the $6/day parking is a good deal. The swimming pool was nice and I really can't say enough about the lobby and the "atmosphere" of the hotel. My kids and husband loved it too.” Apr 1, 2008 by
Maryanna from Mount Prospect, IL
“The location is excellent, but the rooms are old and dated. It was probably a grand hotel in its time. While clean, it appears a bit dirty because of the wear and tear on just about everything. The pool was small, but nice, however, gave the appearance of being old and grimy. Based on the appearance of the hotel overall, we did not even want to visit the restaurant. The hotel staff was nice, but seemed generally bored. The walls are paper thin, so even a short conversation in the hallway can wake you up, not to mention the outside noises, such as the never-ending trains. A sundries shop would have been nice for magazines and forgotten items. Basically this hotel would be great with some investment and updating. Unfortunately, it pales in comparison to the Hilton across the street, even though they are both rated three-star hotels.” Hotel Representatives:
