• One of the cleanest rooms I've ever stayed in!
• The surrounding area seemed deserted and underdeveloped.

“Apart from being disappointed with the surrounding neighborhood, for which I don't hold the hotel responsible, this was a perfect experience. I did not find anything to complain about.”

• No steam room, the entrance is way too small, ice machine was broke!

“I would recommend this hotel to everyone that is looking for a nice, quite, romantic, getaway. Other than the ice machine being broken and out dated, this is a great, friendly clean place.”

• Staff - terrific, comfortable beds. Shower massager-awesome. Breakfast-great. Shuttle-convenient.
• Jacuzzi on the very small side. Elevator very dated.

“This was a really nice hotel for the price. Staff was very nice. The bar is set up well and very nice. Location in downtown was very convenient to all of the shops/restaurants and the cable car. Directions were confusing once we got into downtown Dubuque. The breakfast skillet was the best I have ever had. The shuttle to the greyhound track is fast and easy. Wish the Jacuzzi was larger but the pool area was very clean and the whole hotel is taken care of well. Would definitely stay there again.”

• Easy access too many major roads and convenient parking.
• Pool and hot tub way to small, drinks not allowed in while we watch our children swim.

“We would highly recommend this hotel to friends and family to visit the area but not to just sit around the hotel and rest and relax. The public areas were beautiful but was definitely lacking in the pool and hot tub area. Pool and hot tub were the smallest we've ever seen at a hotel and we were not allowed to take in drinks or snacks. Sometimes as a family we like to just hang out at the pool and enjoy the day as a family.”

• The hotel offered a "menu" of pillow choices, which I appreciated.
• The hotel seems rather old and in need of a makeover.

“The holiday inn Dubuque, though in a slightly sketchy neighborhood, is a decent place to spend a night or two. The staff is friendly, and the lobby is large and accommodating. Don't expect contemporary furnishings like you'll find at newer chains (four points, Fairfield inn, etc.), because the hotel is obviously old, with dated decor and furnishings throughout. The hotel meets basic expectations, but nothing more.”

• Location was great. We could walk to interesting sites and dinner.
• Our room wasn't cleaned until late afternoon.

“The accommodations were modest, but met our needs and the desk staff was helpful. The rooms were clean and reasonably inviting.”

• Very clean and great pool/exercise facilities.
• Out of coffee in the lobby the next morning.

“The hotel was great and the staff was very accommodating. However, we were awakened from dead sleep at 2:30 a.m. By a call from the front desk claiming they had a noise complaint about our room. We had been talking until rather late, but in normal voices and when they did call we were sleeping. Not to mention the fact that around midnight when we came up to our room, we must have run into at least six intoxicated people. It makes one wonder if these people were also getting phone calls from the front desk.”

• Bathroom wasn't quite clean-dust bunnies.

“We have stayed at this hotel before and are always happy with the service. It has all the facilities you may need if you don't want to leave the hotel i.e., restaurant, bar, pool. The one thing I would say negatively is the lunch menu is served in the bar rather than the restaurant which I don't quite understand. The bar is noisy and if you have young children you may want a dining room.”

• The whirlpool claims a maximum occupancy of 6 but you better have a small personal space.

• Very friendly staff, cleanliness, general appearance of the facility. Spacious.

“This a very warm and friendly hotel in the middle of Dubuque. It is located just off the highway and very easy to get to. It is spacious and has very good restaurant and bar. On Wednesdays the travelers are greeted to free drinks and snacks. This is a very cordial time to mingle and meet other people. The friendly staff is always at hand to help.”

• Rock-hard beds, slow response to request for extra towels, small pool.

“This hotel would have been very nice if the beds had not been so hard. My hips were aching by 3:00 am on the first night. Also, it would have been nice if they had not clumped all the guests together in one section of the hotel. They were at less than half capacity, but we had noisy neighbors on both sides. Spreading people out would have resulted in a much better experience.”

“The staff at the front desk is wonderful! The room was fine but the view was nothing to look at. Unfortunately, the housekeeping staff was not what we expected. They would knock on the door even when the do not disturb sign was out. They even threw away papers and items we had on the desk when they cleaned during our stay.”

• The room was not very clean, the shower curtain smelled musty, and I don't know if the sheets were changed before we checked in.

• The hotel was very clean and bright. Staff Great.
• Our view was of the roof of the lower part of the building Noisy A/C.

“The staff was great. Helpful even at 2 am. The Holiday Inn was very bright and clean. The hotel is right in downtown Dubuque. It was about a mile to the Dubuque Greyhound Track and Casino and about a 1/2 mile to Diamond Jo Riverboat Casino. The incline and antiques shop were a few blocks away. The mall is about 5 miles. Only complaint was the A/C unit was noisy when it kicked on. Would have been more romantic if the fireplace in the lobby was on. Great location, friendly staff, clean rooms.”

• The beds were wonderful.
• I was promised a suite/did not get. Promised a refrigerator/did not get. Key cards didn't always work. Water was turned off for part of one day.

“We stayed for 4 nights. So I was hoping for the best! I had called before several days before our arrival to ask for a refrigerator. The clerk indicated that she would upgrade us to a suite! We were thrilled. When we got to our room. It was not a suite. They did not have any available. And even though they promised us every day that we would get a refrigerator. We never saw one. We were on the 5th floor. Needed to swipe your key to get there. Several times we had to have the key card reset. There are 3 elevators. One was not working, the other 2 were VERY slow. On Friday afternoon, they shut the water off because of some mechanical problem. Luckily it was back on by later that evening. There was no ice machine on our floor. Dubuque is my hometown and I wanted our stay to be really special. I have stayed in many Holiday Inns. This one is at the very bottom of the list!”

• The beds/mattresses were so comfortable and noon checkout.
• Too hot in the hallways and general areas.

“Absolutely thrilled with my stay here and will return again. The staff was very nice and helpful, the rooms were clean, spacious and nicely decorated. My favorite part I think was the mattress...if I could have bought one to go I would have...I slept so good...better than I do at home. Overall a fantastic stay!”

“Hotel was adequate for our needs. The hotel did nothing special for us, which was OK, but didn't set it apart from any other place. Didn't realize it until we left (i.e. bill left under the door). Still need to address with hotel. Not happy at all this occurred.”

• For either business or pleasure, this hotel is very well situated for getting out and about Dubuque.
• Heavy aroma of popcorn (from the lobby bar) and fried food in the lobby.

“This hotel is less than 15 years old, well maintained, and well situated for getting out and about Dubuque, regardless of whether you are a business traveler or on a pleasure trip.”

• Teenagers ran up and down the halls, screaming, yelling and singing every hour from 10 pm. to 4 am.

“This hotel is conveniently located, but is a very noisy hotel. Teenagers and college kids ran the halls knocking on all the doors all night long until 4:30 am. in the morning. The teenagers ran from floor to floor and were so loud, they could be heard on other floors. This was a terrible stay and no sleep whatsoever. I would not recommend this hotel to anyone.”

• Front desk clerk a little overwhelmed with customers.

“Very clean and comfortable room. The kids enjoyed the swimming pool while my wife and I spent time in the hot tub. Close to downtown and area attractions - and the in laws. Our room keys would not work as one of the maintenance staff (Keith) was walking by. He let us into our room and went back to the front desk to get key cards that worked. Attempted to tip him and he told us that if we had a great time and enjoyed our visit, he was doing his job.”
