• Great rooms, comfortable beds, wonderful restaurant.
• Parking on lower level when it was full.

“All in all, we were pleasantly surprised by how spacious and welcoming the lobby was. Our room was large, beds were comfy, nice bathroom. Everything very clean. Close to some other restaurants. Their restaurant was romantic and food was excellent shrimp & steak were to die for. Very good value for the money. We would stay here again.”

• This Holiday Inn was very clean, had multiple meeting rooms, coffee, juice and cookies in the lobby and its own upscale restaurant in the lobby.
• What I did not like was that the housekeeping staff did not change our linen or at least make up the beds nor did they change our towels. Had to call.

• They missed cleaning behind the bathroom door, There was a packet of pills on the floor.

• Common areas were nice. The staff was friendly and tried to be helpful.
• Housekeeping was bad even when complained about.

“The Holiday Inn is in Dubuque (downtown) not in Galena. This is a typical hotel room, nothing special except that housekeeping was almost non existent. We stayed three nights and never had our beds changed. They pulled up the covers and didn't even straighten out the bottom sheet. They did not clean the coffee pot or the cups and glasses we used. The hotel is close to the river and all of the gambling. Would not stay there again.”

• I liked the hotel lobby/hallway area very elegant.
• Our room smelled moldy. Once we turned the air/heat on it helped.

“The hotel was located to a great restaurant and easy walking distance to the river/casinos. It was nice to see all of the restorations of the downtown area.”

• Coffee/tea in room; iron/ironing board in room.
• For a couple, 2 double beds vs. 1 queen/king bed was greatest drawback.

“Though halls were dated, room itself was fine: basic, functional, clean, and not lacking in anything I needed during my stay. Staff extremely friendly and helpful. Walls between rooms must be somewhat thin and/or poorly sound insulated because noise from group in adjacent room could be clearly heard through wall, interrupting a.m. sleep. Overall, a fine hotel for the price paid. Would stay again.”

• The housekeeping staff went above the call of duty.
• Smokey smell.

“We were told we were in a non-smoking room however upon entering the room you could clearly tell the room had been smoked in previously. The housekeeping staff said they very recently made half of the hotel non-smoking. They have a spray they can use to help with the smoking odor. I was skeptical but must admit after they used the spray, I didn't detect the smoke smell anymore. Everyone we encountered was friendly. Not an overly huge pool area but adequate for our small family.”

• The location of this hotel is exceptional. Very close to casinos, local shops, museums, restaurants, etc.
• Hotel's restaurant does not have that much variety in their breakfast menu!

“We loved the time that spent at this hotel. Free wireless network, so if you have a laptop, I recommend you bring it. Even if you are not traveling for business purposes. The business center is a good resource for travelers as well. If you need to print stuff off the Internet you can do it for free, you can browse the Internet for a limited time. As I mentioned before, the hotel is within walking distance of Diamond Jo casino, the Mississippi River, Spirit River Rides, Museums, and several local shops. Six minutes to these locations walking. I would not recommend dining at the hotel restaurant since it is very expensive and the menu is very limited. The $27.00 for breakfast for two, which consisted of eggs, coffee, waffles, pancakes and some fruits.”

“It was not a clean hotel, the pool was a huge disappointment it was very small. front desk people where not friendly, we had a very sweet housekeeping lady though. ice machines only worked on some floors (not ours). not a great place to stay with little”

“I stayed 2 nights, and when I returned on the first day at 11pm, my room was still not made. When I complained to the front desk, they did not take much notice and did not try to rectify it. The phone in my room did not work. I was impressed when I walked into the hotel the first day, but very disappointed by the time I walked out.”

“The staff was helpful and nice. It was located in a convenient location with free parking. Our room was attractive, but the whirlpool tub and shower were not clean. The furniture was scuffed and worn as well. They cleaned the tub when we complained. Not the best, but not the worst.”

“The rooms were surprising quiet considering the two weddings and a group outing there. The hotel staff had done a great job arranging the placement of the groups. The hotel as easy to get to and the staff was excellent.”

• The surrounding area seemed deserted and underdeveloped.

“Apart from being disappointed with the surrounding neighborhood, for which I don't hold the hotel responsible, this was a perfect experience. I did not find anything to complain about.”

• Staff - terrific, comfortable beds. Shower massager-awesome. Breakfast-great. Shuttle-convenient.
• Jacuzzi on the very small side. Elevator very dated.

“This was a really nice hotel for the price. Staff was very nice. The bar is set up well and very nice. Location in downtown was very convenient to all of the shops/restaurants and the cable car. Directions were confusing once we got into downtown Dubuque. The breakfast skillet was the best I have ever had. The shuttle to the greyhound track is fast and easy. Wish the Jacuzzi was larger but the pool area was very clean and the whole hotel is taken care of well. Would definitely stay there again.”

• Easy access too many major roads and convenient parking.
• Pool and hot tub way to small, drinks not allowed in while we watch our children swim.

“We would highly recommend this hotel to friends and family to visit the area but not to just sit around the hotel and rest and relax. The public areas were beautiful but was definitely lacking in the pool and hot tub area. Pool and hot tub were the smallest we've ever seen at a hotel and we were not allowed to take in drinks or snacks. Sometimes as a family we like to just hang out at the pool and enjoy the day as a family.”

• The hotel offered a "menu" of pillow choices, which I appreciated.
• The hotel seems rather old and in need of a makeover.

“The holiday inn Dubuque, though in a slightly sketchy neighborhood, is a decent place to spend a night or two. The staff is friendly, and the lobby is large and accommodating. Don't expect contemporary furnishings like you'll find at newer chains (four points, Fairfield inn, etc.), because the hotel is obviously old, with dated decor and furnishings throughout. The hotel meets basic expectations, but nothing more.”

• Very clean and great pool/exercise facilities.
• Out of coffee in the lobby the next morning.

“The hotel was great and the staff was very accommodating. However, we were awakened from dead sleep at 2:30 a.m. By a call from the front desk claiming they had a noise complaint about our room. We had been talking until rather late, but in normal voices and when they did call we were sleeping. Not to mention the fact that around midnight when we came up to our room, we must have run into at least six intoxicated people. It makes one wonder if these people were also getting phone calls from the front desk.”

• Bathroom wasn't quite clean-dust bunnies.

“We have stayed at this hotel before and are always happy with the service. It has all the facilities you may need if you don't want to leave the hotel i.e., restaurant, bar, pool. The one thing I would say negatively is the lunch menu is served in the bar rather than the restaurant which I don't quite understand. The bar is noisy and if you have young children you may want a dining room.”

• The whirlpool claims a maximum occupancy of 6 but you better have a small personal space.

“This a very warm and friendly hotel in the middle of Dubuque. It is located just off the highway and very easy to get to. It is spacious and has very good restaurant and bar. On Wednesdays the travelers are greeted to free drinks and snacks. This is a very cordial time to mingle and meet other people. The friendly staff is always at hand to help.”

“This hotel would have been very nice if the beds had not been so hard. My hips were aching by 3:00 am on the first night. Also, it would have been nice if they had not clumped all the guests together in one section of the hotel. They were at less than half capacity, but we had noisy neighbors on both sides. Spreading people out would have resulted in a much better experience.”

“The staff at the front desk is wonderful! The room was fine but the view was nothing to look at. Unfortunately, the housekeeping staff was not what we expected. They would knock on the door even when the do not disturb sign was out. They even threw away papers and items we had on the desk when they cleaned during our stay.”

• The room was not very clean, the shower curtain smelled musty, and I don't know if the sheets were changed before we checked in.

• The hotel was very clean and bright. Staff Great.
• Our view was of the roof of the lower part of the building Noisy A/C.

“The staff was great. Helpful even at 2 am. The Holiday Inn was very bright and clean. The hotel is right in downtown Dubuque. It was about a mile to the Dubuque Greyhound Track and Casino and about a 1/2 mile to Diamond Jo Riverboat Casino. The incline and antiques shop were a few blocks away. The mall is about 5 miles. Only complaint was the A/C unit was noisy when it kicked on. Would have been more romantic if the fireplace in the lobby was on. Great location, friendly staff, clean rooms.”

• The beds were wonderful.
• I was promised a suite/did not get. Promised a refrigerator/did not get. Key cards didn't always work. Water was turned off for part of one day.

“We stayed for 4 nights. So I was hoping for the best! I had called before several days before our arrival to ask for a refrigerator. The clerk indicated that she would upgrade us to a suite! We were thrilled. When we got to our room. It was not a suite. They did not have any available. And even though they promised us every day that we would get a refrigerator. We never saw one. We were on the 5th floor. Needed to swipe your key to get there. Several times we had to have the key card reset. There are 3 elevators. One was not working, the other 2 were VERY slow. On Friday afternoon, they shut the water off because of some mechanical problem. Luckily it was back on by later that evening. There was no ice machine on our floor. Dubuque is my hometown and I wanted our stay to be really special. I have stayed in many Holiday Inns. This one is at the very bottom of the list!”

• The beds/mattresses were so comfortable and noon checkout.
• Too hot in the hallways and general areas.

“Absolutely thrilled with my stay here and will return again. The staff was very nice and helpful, the rooms were clean, spacious and nicely decorated. My favorite part I think was the mattress...if I could have bought one to go I would have...I slept so good...better than I do at home. Overall a fantastic stay!”
