• RIGHT NEXT TO HIGHWAY, LOUD AS CAN BE

“If you book a room, request it be away from the highway, or not on the upper floors. Hotel is in a lower area but upper floors are on same level as 4 lane local highway and noise is very loud.”

• Easy to find, decent room - nothing spectacular and nothing bad.

“Breakfast was decent. The fitted sheet and mattress pad on the bed fit so badly that just rolling over in bed caused them to roll up on us.”

• The beds were really comfortable.
• The bathroom floor did have some hair on it when we arrived.

“Overall, our experience was excellent. We were greeted with a smile and were sent on our way with another. The beds were extremely comfortable. There was plenty of room for two adults throughout the room. We did not enter the pool area, but there were plenty of children enjoying themselves. The lobby area was well kept. We would definitely recommend staying here. It was close to the mall and a short drive from the Mississippi.”

• Rooms were clean.
• Staff was not always at the front desk to answer questions.

“The rooms and hotel were clean. I was a little concerned at times about the hotel security. We came back to the hotel a couple of times and there was no one at the front desk. It appeared that anyone could walk in and wander through the hotel complex. We will not stay there again.”

• The staff is always helpful and friendly, they remember repeat customers.
• The only down side is the work out facility association, but there is a yucca near by which is in good shape.

“I have stay at the hotel now 7 different times. Consistent and friendly. It is located near the active part of the city for dining and good close access to the in and out of Dubuque. Set up for business folks but good for families.”

• We were not able to retrieve a specialized pillow we left behind and the manager was left than helpful.

“We inadvertently left a specialized pillow in the room at checkout time we called that afternoon when we realized our error. No one called back as promised. I made contact with the manager on Tuesday afternoon. She stated that she received no message. She was unable to locate the pillow and when pressed about its where about she told us the she couldn't check the room until Thursday. Don't they clean the room everyday? I challenged her that it might have been taken at which point she became angry, accused me of being irresponsible and abruptly ended our call by saying she was offended and telling me that if she found the pillow she may call me back. I'm certain that other people forget things at checkout time. Based on their lack of effort to return our calls and the manager’s lack of customer service I will never use the Fairfield Hotel again!

• Air conditioning units are always noisy in 1-star.

“This hotel is nice for a one-knighted but is in a difficult location to find and is an older Fairfield inn with musty smelling damp rooms. Despite this the staff is friendly; there is an indoor pool and continental breakfast in the morning. Not great but not bad.”

• The waffles were good.
• The room was not clean.

“When we got there the room smelled like smoke and it was suppose to be a non-smoking room. I went into the bathroom and there was hair on the floor. There was regular hair and pubic hair. We were only given two bottles of shampoo and no conditioner. I would not stay at this hotel again.”

• The old fruit in the dresser drawer. Toilet paper roll had issues.

“Sufficient for the amount of time I was there (2 days). It was close to shopping and restaurants. I heard they worked out a deal with an exercise place - but you had to ask for it. Staff was friendly and it was a clean hotel.”

• Conviently located to downtown, shopping, and ski areas.
• Everything is slanted towards efficiency, small elevator, decor not warm.

“Good location on I-20 convenient to downtown and ski areas. Easy drive to Galena, IL for historic homes, shopping, and additional ski area. We will return in the fall to see the Mississippi River.”

• Entrance into the hotel is a little confusing, but you can see it from the main road.

• Extremely noisy the second night. Doors slamming, etc.

“Hotel was fine and the location was good. On the second night, there was a group of extremely noisy people who arrived late. They had zero consideration for the other guests. They made noise and slammed doors. It went on for 30 minutes and I saw no attempt by the hotel to handle the issue.”

• Close to where I needed to be for visiting areas of interest
• Hard to get onto the street where it's located (I wasn't sure if doing a u turn was okay....so had to go down a street to get to the hotel)

“The person I met up with raved about the beds....said the bed was just great and slept (and sawed)like a log. Staff was very helpful, especially since I got there too early to sign in but could leave my car in the lot until sign in okay. Breakfast was good too.....I liked this hotel better than the Holiday Inn that I stayed at in Dubuque before.”

• The first non-smoking" room that we got smelled strongly of smoke."

“This hotel does not look like much (could use a renovation) but the staff was friendly, the rooms were clean. Beware, not all non-smoking" rooms are non-smoking; we initially got one that smelled strong of smoke but were able to get a different room. I got this room for slightly more than 1/2 of the advertised rate. Overall, it was a good value."”

“One of our two rooms had a very dirty bed. Staff provided another room but as arrival was very late this was an inconvenience. Bed had a large stained sheet.”

• Excellent continental breakfast, more than what we ever expected or experienced!

“Overall it was an excellent place to stay for the night for the price we requested. It had a wonderful continental breakfast, more than we expected (serving waffles). A nice swimming area for families and nice facility overall for the short time we were there and able to experience. Would definitely go there again! It was in a good location, just off the road we were taking to travel and in a good location for visiting / touring if we would have had time!”

“We are non-smokers and were put into a smoking room. The odor in the room was very oppressive, but we were able to open a window and let some fresh air into the room. The hotel was full and that was the only room available.”

“Prior to the visit, we were thinking what kind of room would it be and what condition the hotel would be in and what part of the town it would be located in to be a two star hotel. We were kind of weary. But once we arrived, we were VERY surprised. The hotel and room was great. It was like new. The hotel provided a wonderful variety of their free continental breakfast, the hotel even had a pool and hot tub. We were located by plenty of restaurant choices and we had quick access to the routes we wanted to take.”
