• Right in the middle of downtown. I loved the showers and shampoo.
• Pay attention to parking pass.

“Very nice and clean. Right in the middle of downtown. Good shower, complimentary shampoo and stuff. The only thing I didn't like which was sort of my own fault was every parking pass they validate costs 8 bucks whether you were in the ramp for 5 seconds or five days so pay attention to that.”

• We stayed on the Club floor. The employees up there were very friendly.
• For the extra money the room was no better than any other room.

“I thought the hotel was clean and the employees were friendly. I don't think I would stay on the Club floor again. It was not really worth the extra money. Although the employees in the club room were friendly, the food offered was just ok. Also, there was still a charge for any alcohol (although cheaper than the bar).”

• Very noisy and very poor hotel security.

“There were people yelling up and down the hallways half the night and hotel security/staff was quite worthless in solving the issue. Add to this that the rooms are poorly noise insulated and it made for a rough night of sleep and an overall poor experience. Also, the pool was freezing.”

• The location to Kinnick Stadium and Downtown.
• Some unsightly stains on the carpet and a lot of noise from a party.

“As I stated previously the location to Downtown and the University is great. You can walk to good shopping and dining. The Hotel is older but quite functional, needs a bit of a facelift.”

• This was a great location. manager was fantastic but smelly.
• Smells were outstanding. night clerk was poor manager was great.

“Location was Fantastic! The night clerk staff needs a courteous class. The day manager was fantastic. The hotel needs a good cleaning; the smells were outstanding. The 3rd floor was unbearable the moved us to the 6th floor after a horrible night sleep. I can not say enough positive about the manager. Without her; we would have changed hotels.”

• Slow & inadequate of elevators. Bathtub drain did not work.

“Great location in a college town. Only 2 elevators which were painfully slow. Loud kids were let into swimming pool next to our room at 7:00am. Parking validation system was not explained very well. Had to pay extra. College drunks were permitted to sit in the entrance area Friday night; not very pleasant.”

“Over all we love the Sheraton and have stayed 3 or 4 other times but this time we booked the same etc but our room was nearly half the size, not comfortable chair, no robe, no water. We were just a bit disappointed because due to our previous experiences we had come to expect so much.”

• Sheraton claims they have these great beds and they do at the Brookfield, Wisconsin and the Key Largo Sheraton's but not this Sheraton!

“Typical Sheraton, without the "Sweet Sleeper Beds" They use the nice comforters but the mattress is not a "Sweet Sleeper". Staff is friendly.”

• Staff was very friendly and the rooms were very nice. They had a shuttle to take you to the mall since it was located Downtown.
• It was located in an area where college kids stood outside and talked "loud" until 3:00 in the morning.

“The rooms were very nice but it was a very noisy location. I was there 2 nights. The first night the college kids stood outside (7 floors below) and were talking & laughing loudly. The second night the people in the room next to ours were very loud. The motel gave us a complimentary breakfast buffet for the noise problem which was very nice. I would not stay there again just because of the noise.”

“The hotel is great. Beautiful rooms, really nice staff. Nice pool and hot tub. We really enjoy staying at this hotel. Incredibly convenient location. My only concern is that the hotel is very open to the Downtown area and both times we've stayed there we've seen people wandering around the floors aimlessly.”

• Hotel lobby was updated; clean and desk staff was friendly.
• Fitness center was a maze; pool area cold; hot tub fluke warm; carpet in my room was dirty; room outdated.

“I wouldn't recommend this hotel for families, business travelers, and certainly not for couples. The fitness center was a weird hodgepodge of equipment and lay out. The pool area was cold; hot tub fluke warm at best. Carpet throughout is clearly worn, dirty, and outdated. Nicest part of the hotel room was the bathroom; very good shower; beautiful countertop. No continental breakfast included with the stay - ought to be.”

• The hotel was clean and the staff was helpful.
• Safety, security and noise issues during the night.

“There was an ugly fight outside, right below our window, at 2 a.m. A woman and two men punched and kicked two other men, as a large, half-circle crowd of people gathered around to watch the fight with cups of beer in their hands, as if they were attending a street theater performance. Even though the fight occurred right in front of the hotel lobby, and lasted for at least 15 minutes, no police showed up until the fight was over and the crowd had dispersed. Also, during the night there were people from a wedding party talking loudly and slamming doors in the hallway outside our room until about 4 a.m. Needless to say, my wife and I didn't sleep well the one night we stayed at the Downtown Iowa City Sheraton.”

“This hotel should not be above a 1 star, our expectations fell short. The rooms are cheaply furnished, and for a hotel such as this I would expect glasses instead of plastic, fridge, microwave, etc. Also, the noise level was high. The price for this hotel was not worth it.”

• Air conditioner broken, no soap, etc., had to move twice to different rooms, noisy.

“I have now stayed 6 nights at this hotel over the last 4 weekends. It is noisy with college students. This time was particularly bad. The room was 74 degrees when I checked in, air conditioner did not work. Maintenance came, supposedly fixed it, it clanged for several hours, then stopped working, when I woke up hot, it was 75 degrees in the room. I asked them to fix it, I would be out of the room all day. When I came back it was not fixed. They moved me to a "non smoking room" that stunk like smoke and the beds were 2 different heights. They apologized and once again moved my belongings to a third room while I was at dinner and when I arrived back, it was 76 degrees in the new room so although I eventually got a room with a working air conditioner, it was several more hours before it cooled down, a few hours before I checked out from my 3 day, 2 nights trip. Also the first room had no coffee or soap. The employees were nice, but not much else could have been handled as poorly as it was. Also, once again it was noisy all night Saturday night.”

“Handicap room was sort of a turn off. There was no room in bathroom to place items. Thermostat was behind TV cabinet, preventing proper temp, sensing of the ventilation system.”

• Starbucks coffee was served in the lobby in the a.m. The staff was really friendly. It was pretty quiet for a college town.
• On the second floor, I could smell the chlorine from the pool near the elevators.

“I like this hotel and stay here faintly regularly when I travel to Iowa City. I do not like paying $9 a day for parking - I think that is a very misleading expense not added to the hotel price. The hotel needs local police help in monitoring the college kids allowed to lurk in their lobby, it's consequently filthy after a Friday/Saturday night. The hotel does a good job in cleaning up quickly. The hotel has college kids book rooms and then go out partying in the local bars, consequently between 2 and 4 the noise level is extremely high with drunk kids wondering the halls.”

“The room was clean and comfortable, however the bathroom was very small. As a solo traveler on this trip, the room was spacious and comfortable, LOVED all the pillows! I generally stay where there is breakfast included, and the prices for room service were high as to be expected. Also the additional cost for parking would make me think about sacrificing location for some of the other amenities I generally look for. The lobby was extremely noisy and crowded with students as the evening wore on.”

• Small bathroom; towels were ragged & it was dirty.

“I dropped something on the floor and when I went to pick it up I was appalled by the filth on the floor. The bathmat and towels were frayed and ratty-looking. No free Wi-Fi, no free breakfast and had to pay for parking (with no connection to hotel; had to walk outside in the freezing cold to go from hotel to parking garage). I would never stay at this hotel again. Worst experience staying at a hotel in Iowa City-Coralville area (somewhere I go to 5-8 times a year).”

• The room was large, neat and clean. Nicely appointed.
• Both times I went to the pool, there were no towels. I had to dry off with my shirt!

“Nice room. Large, clean, nicely appointed. The fitness center, pool, and hot tub were nice, but the hotel staff did not keep the towels stocked. The common areas of the hotel were quite cold, as well. The breakfast buffet was quite nice, which was a plus.”

• This time the hotel was quieter after I requested a quiet room.
• The hotel is showing its age in not a good way. Drains in bathroom were slow draining or not functioning at all.

“This hotel while it was not a bad hotel certainly did not live up to my expectations of a 3 star hotel. I have stayed in 2 star hotels that were in better condition. Carpeting was old, Appliances and TV were old, outlets for electric were hard to find, bathroom not heated, no exhaust fan and the room furnace fan blew into the window coverings unless you propped something up against them so the room would warm up.”

“This hotel is an excellent location to Downtown Iowa City, but the cleanliness and appearance of the room leaves something to be desired. We found left over baby carrots from the previous guests in our ice bucket and some trash on the floor. The furniture and fixtures were worn. The overall cleanliness of the room did not meet my expectations.”

“I thought everything was wonderful! From check-in to check-out every staff member was pleasant and professional. The room was very clean and spacious and had a nice view of downtown Iowa City. The bed was very comfortable. My only complaint was that you have to pay $10 a day for their internet service (all thought I found out if you disconnect their cable you can connect to a free downtown Iowa city wireless internet connection so I was able to access it for free!). Other then the internet issue I would highly recommend this hotel (and I'm a pretty picky person).”

• Overlooking the plaza out the window was beautiful and fun.
• The beds were too small for two larger people to sleep together. Fine for one.

“The shops in the plaza surrounding the hotel were fun and interesting. Terrific restaurants such as an Indian buffet. Great art galleries. Could have spent much longer, but had to travel on. The hotel itself was really very nice. My only complaint was the size of the beds. My 20 year old and I are rather large, and it was difficult for us to sleep comfortably. The employee who checked us in went to much trouble to find a ready room at 11am, due to the fact we had driven all night. We so appreciated it and told her supervisor so. Extra good service.”

“We appreciated a decent place to sleep at a reasonable price. The hotel is in convenient location, the beds were comfortable, and the parking attendant was very friendly. It was a nice touch to have free parking for two days, coffee in the morning, cookies in the afternoon. We had a pleasant experience and look forward to staying at the Sheraton again.”

“The room was acceptable and clean. The location is excellent, but that's really all it has to recommend it. I felt as though I was given a less desirable room based on the lower rate I paid. If my room was indicative of the remainder of the hotel, then they're badly in need of room renovations. Bed was less comfortable than many of the much lower priced chain hotels Ive stayed in recently and the toiletries were lower quality.”
