• It was downtown where a couple of bars are located and close to freeway.
• It's located next to train tracks.

• The beds were very comfortable.
• Windows leaked during rain, no hot water in the evening.

“The parking garage was an extra charge, confusing, inconvenient, and a long walk especially with luggage. Called regarding no hot water, was told since we were at the end of the hall we would have to let the water run about 5 min first, by then the tub was 3/4 full of water. (Maybe this method explains the water stains on the ceiling?) One sink had the water turned off. It rained during our stay and I woke up to dripping from 4 places around the window,soaking the carpet. The dining room windows leaked. The beds were extremely comfortable. No pool due to renovations.”

• The staff members at the reception desk was very kind and friendly.
• The restaurant was not up to a 3 star hotel standards. Coffee and food were cold and staff was not very friendly.

“Though this hotel is downtown, it is easily accessible from the Interstate. The lobby is immense with a European feel. Really enjoyed out stay.”

• Hotel parking was not marked clearly or provided.

“Fine hotel with many services for business needs. The pool is not open and that left nothing for the children. The front desk clerk was very helpful in amusing the children with a "high" floor.”

• Excellent sleeping accommodation, great ambiance, great staff.
• Location, parking fee.

“Sleeping accommodations were excellent, able to obtain good service in restaurant through late hours. Bathrooms are very small but overall adequate. Parking fee not appreciated.”

• hotel empty and gave me a room that literally needed earplugs (hotel provided)

“Great hotel but the room was so loud from the elevator hum and dings for each floor I didn't sleep a wink. They obviously know the room is too loud since the next morning I found a little bad w/ear plugs.”

• Spacious room.
• Television didn't work correctly, even after they came to attempt to fix. Left to bottles of lotion and no shampoo in room.

“Needs maintenance on televisions in rooms. Maintenance personnel told us they are having a problem with all their televisions not changing channels as they should, etc.”

• The room was very clean and neat.
• The pool was not working; we could have gone to the Y; however, the time for that was quite limited. We were disappointed.

“The hotel eating area is under renovation. I am sure that it will be wonderful when it is opened again. For now, the continental breakfast was served in the bar.”

• I love the beds, and the privacy in the room. The linen spray was an outstanding idea.
• The parking was so far away. The rooms were somewhat small. The staff was not user friendly. Had a fire drill at 4:30 am from kids!

“Getting in and out of the parking ramp was not efficient. A long walk to the hotel and mostly to the room. Room was nice but not fabulous. Parking was not free.”

“Great rooms, luxurious feel. Train is loud at night and elevator was right by room. TV Clicker did not work but beds were sumptuous and comfortable. Room service food was excellent. Staff courteous and helpful. I would stay again.”

• Location.
• Our room did not get cleaned and the staff was slow on response when we requested fresh towels.

“The hotel is currently under refreshening. Construction workers are working early in the mornings and late into the evenings. The staff must be reduced. Our room did not get cleaned; however, our towels were picked up and no fresh ones left. We had to call twice for towels; so we could shower! Our overall experience for this visit was poor.”

• The bed was comfortable.
• Poor performance in emergency situations - power went off and no emergency lights in hallways or stairways.

“We finished up our stay as the Cedar River flooded downtown, Cedar Rapids in June 2008. After a fire alarm at 2:40 am, exiting the hotel I fell off the platform on the east side of the hotel because the stairs went to the right. There should have been a railing blocking someone from falling the 2-foot drop straight ahead. Then, the power was shut off and no hot water at 7 am, forcing evacuation of the hotel. We were on the 10th floor and had absolutely no emergency lights in the hallway or the stairway. This hotel really needs to revamp their way of handling emergencies - we won't stay there again!”

“I always stay here when I visit my daughter and grandchildren. It is fun to bring them to swim, and they always have a good time. It is always clean, and I rarely hear much noise, which is also important to me. Thanks.”

• Room and beds were nice.
• Bathrooms need updating as does lobby, pool area and restaurant.

“Hotel was conveniently located with garage parking though it seems parking should be free on the weekends. Room was nice but the bathroom was very small. Also the rooms did not mention the free WiFi - a nice feature but I was not aware of it for half a day. The pool was out of date but my 7 and 5 year old did not mind and the water was clean and at a good temp. However, there was never a supply of towels on hand for when one got out of the pool. We returned to our room with friends expecting the beds to be made (at least) but at 6 pm they were un-made and they never did get them made.”

• Very comfortable beds and free computer/internet access.
• Aside from the bedding, the room decor could use updating.

“This hotel is conveniently located close to the Interstate. The room and hotel overall seemed clean but the decor could use a little updating. The highlight was definitely the beds, so comfortable. There is a $6 charge for parking but it is a nice ramp so I didn't think it was too outlandish. There is a wonderful coffee shop across the street - it is 100% better than the coffee that is in the rooms.”

“Although the rooms were great, this hotel is very dated. The pool area especially was very dirty, many layers of paint, it just looked like a 70's throwback. The tub/shower in the bathroom was also very old and in general, the hotel just seemed tired and in need of being brought back to life. It's a shame because the staff was so friendly and welcoming and restaurant has breathtaking views. I'd stay there again but wouldn't be so excited about it. I'd love to see the hotel refurbished and updated. It's a classic and there aren't too many of those around anymore.”

• The hotel's relation to downtown attractions.
• This hotel is not 3 star. It is run-down, needs major renovations & hotel parking not at all convenient.

“This hotel does not deserve the 3 star rating, it is a 2 at best. The hotel is stuck in the 60's or 70's with its decor. It seems as it has not had any updating in 30-40 years. The parking is not convenient and the hotel is right next to a very loud and much used train track. On a good note, the staff was friendly and helpful. Also, if you are in town for the theater or performance, it is a great location.”

• The fitness room have a variety of equipment and it was in good condition.
• Having to pay $6 per day to park in the parking garage.

“The hotel is downtown and is attached to the US Cellular Center. The lobby is very nice and the elevators are generally pretty quick. The outer edge of the carpeting in our room looked like it hadn't been swept in over a year but the rest of the room was in good shape. The furniture was nice with drawers and hanging space and there were plenty of pillows for each bed. The hotel has a "Sky Walk" to a parking garage that is also used for the U.S. Cellular Center and other downtown parking. It can get pretty full when major events are going on at the center. Freight trains travel under the sky walk so it can be a little noisy at times.”

“I have tried Monday & Tuesday to call the hotel to get the billing fixed. The hotel charged my account for the same night. They BILLED ME AGAIN ANYWAY! Never stay there again!”

“Very quiet hotel, didn't even hear people walking in the hall outside my room. Very clean. Slept great on the bed. Had wireless internet access. The only thing that could have made the trip better was having the front desk staff a little more friendlily. All but one that I dealt with had no personality, didn't smile, hardly even looked at you, and just didn't seem to care about the guest in general. Overall pleased with the hotel.”

“The hotel was clean and nice, but we picked the hotel because it had a skywalk that would connect to Downtown locations. The problem is that they are not available on the weekends, so we walked in the freezing cold. Do not advertise the skywalk if it is not available.”

“Hotel was centrally located and the room was clean and in relatively good shape. Televisions are older and cable channels are limited and, without a decent guide, the channels were confusing. Bathroom was very small. Curved shower curtain provided ample room in the shower and the showerhead provided a good quantity of water flow and nice hot water.”

• Very friendly and professional. Clean. Casual and fine dining both available in lounge and restaurant.
• Only bummer was the indoor pool was a little cold. The kids couldn't swim. (But I didn't want to anyways).

“I would go to this hotel again. Very enjoyable time for us and the kids. This hotel would be good for our family to spend a weekend to relax (we often go to a hotel for a weekend just to relax and let the kids swim.) Also good for me and my wife to spend a weekend alone with entertainment on Fridays at their hotel restaurant and fine dining. They have a great brunch.”

• It had a small workout facility.
• Pool is too small and water is cold.

“We crawled into bed and my wife felt something touch her foot. We looked and found a used facial tissue in our bed. We then saw a hair near it. It appeared that the sheets weren't changed after the last people stayed here. We called down and staff came and remade our beds while we stood waiting. We then found a large spider near the bed. At check out they never said anything about it, didn't even ask us how our stay was. They should have at the very least apologized for the tissue. One of the staff that changed the bedding that night did say she was sorry, that was it.”

• Comfortable beds.
• No fridge or microwave in the rooms. Cold pool.

“The staff and food represent two of the excellent features about the hotel. My daughter and I went to the pool late at night and the bar person delivered our food to us because she saw that my daughter was overly eager to jump into the water. And the chicken and fish we ordered were, surprisingly, very moist.”

• The location.
• Concert at nearby building and could hear music playing from there.

“The hotel and location is wonderful. The indoor pool is not heated and should be. There is a center next door that has concerts and you can hear the music (bass primarily) as if it is being played in the room adjourned to your own this went on until 11:00 pm. Hotel should inform you of concerts so that you are aware in advance.”

• Large, open reception area.
• No breakfast, not much security in gym area, no printer available & had to pay for parking each night which brought price up considerably.

“The Business Center had no toner for both of their printers. I was told they ordered it on Monday, but still didn't have one on Friday! Toner cartridges are not that hard to come by these days! They did not offer to print documents using their printers behind the counter that worked. Also, first night we were there, the city issued a water boil notice. A pipe had burst due to construction from the storm system into the public water system. When checking in, this was not mentioned. We only found out b/c we watched the local news. After I asked at the front desk, we were given bottled water to use for drinking & brushing teeth, etc. The guests should have been told this when checking in, not after several hours! We had 1 King bed & I needed 2 double beds. I spoke with the young lady & asked to change it, she said she did, but when we arrived we were booked into a King room. Luckily, they had another double available, but this made me cautious about the experience to come.”
