“We finished up our stay as the Cedar River flooded downtown, Cedar Rapids in June 2008. After a fire alarm at 2:40 am, exiting the hotel I fell off the platform on the east side of the hotel because the stairs went to the right. There should have been a railing blocking someone from falling the 2-foot drop straight ahead. Then, the power was shut off and no hot water at 7 am, forcing evacuation of the hotel. We were on the 10th floor and had absolutely no emergency lights in the hallway or the stairway. This hotel really needs to revamp their way of handling emergencies - we won't stay there again!” Jun 7, 2008 by
Jim from Rhinelander, WI
“Great hotel but they were extremely short staffed when I was there.” May 30, 2008 by
Connie from Tulsa, OK
“I always stay here when I visit my daughter and grandchildren. It is fun to bring them to swim, and they always have a good time. It is always clean, and I rarely hear much noise, which is also important to me. Thanks.” May 29, 2008 by
Bill from Grayslake, IL
“Hotel was conveniently located with garage parking though it seems parking should be free on the weekends. Room was nice but the bathroom was very small. Also the rooms did not mention the free WiFi - a nice feature but I was not aware of it for half a day. The pool was out of date but my 7 and 5 year old did not mind and the water was clean and at a good temp. However, there was never a supply of towels on hand for when one got out of the pool. We returned to our room with friends expecting the beds to be made (at least) but at 6 pm they were un-made and they never did get them made.” May 28, 2008 by
Virginia from Concordia, KS
“Would never stay here again. The place was unclean.” May 27, 2008 by
Sara from Rosemount, MN
“This hotel is conveniently located close to the Interstate. The room and hotel overall seemed clean but the decor could use a little updating. The highlight was definitely the beds, so comfortable. There is a $6 charge for parking but it is a nice ramp so I didn't think it was too outlandish. There is a wonderful coffee shop across the street - it is 100% better than the coffee that is in the rooms.” May 13, 2008 by
Michele from Strawberry Point, IA
“Although the rooms were great, this hotel is very dated. The pool area especially was very dirty, many layers of paint, it just looked like a 70's throwback. The tub/shower in the bathroom was also very old and in general, the hotel just seemed tired and in need of being brought back to life. It's a shame because the staff was so friendly and welcoming and restaurant has breathtaking views. I'd stay there again but wouldn't be so excited about it. I'd love to see the hotel refurbished and updated. It's a classic and there aren't too many of those around anymore.” May 8, 2008 by
Janell from Waterloo, IA
“This hotel has a nice location and would be convenient for anybody attending an event at the us cellular center. The staff is helpful in meeting requests or needs.” May 7, 2008 by
Leslie from Estherville, IA
“Nice hotel. If you want a pool, this is not the place for you. Pool area was not very nice. My children got ready to swim and changed their minds once we got to the pool area. They wouldn't even get in the pool.” May 2, 2008 by
Dennis from South Jordan, UT
“Rooms and public areas were supported by 3 star rating.” May 2, 2008 by
Daniel from Beaverton, OR
“This hotel does not deserve the 3 star rating, it is a 2 at best. The hotel is stuck in the 60's or 70's with its decor. It seems as it has not had any updating in 30-40 years. The parking is not convenient and the hotel is right next to a very loud and much used train track. On a good note, the staff was friendly and helpful. Also, if you are in town for the theater or performance, it is a great location.” Apr 21, 2008 by
Amy from Waterloo, IA
“The hotel was great. The staff at the hotel was terrible.” Apr 9, 2008 by
Jessi from Dubuque, IA
“The room was ok nothing special. I have stayed at other hotels in the same city and they were much nicer in comparison but the shower was really nice.” Apr 3, 2008 by
Randy from Colorado Springs, CO
“The hotel is downtown and is attached to the US Cellular Center. The lobby is very nice and the elevators are generally pretty quick. The outer edge of the carpeting in our room looked like it hadn't been swept in over a year but the rest of the room was in good shape. The furniture was nice with drawers and hanging space and there were plenty of pillows for each bed. The hotel has a "Sky Walk" to a parking garage that is also used for the U.S. Cellular Center and other downtown parking. It can get pretty full when major events are going on at the center. Freight trains travel under the sky walk so it can be a little noisy at times.” Mar 26, 2008 by
Fala from Davenport, IA
“I have tried Monday & Tuesday to call the hotel to get the billing fixed. The hotel charged my account for the same night. They BILLED ME AGAIN ANYWAY! Never stay there again!” Mar 20, 2008 by
Tristan from Waterloo, IA
“Very quiet hotel, didn't even hear people walking in the hall outside my room. Very clean. Slept great on the bed. Had wireless internet access. The only thing that could have made the trip better was having the front desk staff a little more friendlily. All but one that I dealt with had no personality, didn't smile, hardly even looked at you, and just didn't seem to care about the guest in general. Overall pleased with the hotel.” Feb 15, 2008 by
Joiner from Cresco, IA
“Met my expectations and will plan to stay there again.” Feb 13, 2008 by
Justin from Fort Dodge, IA
“The hotel was clean and nice, but we picked the hotel because it had a skywalk that would connect to Downtown locations. The problem is that they are not available on the weekends, so we walked in the freezing cold. Do not advertise the skywalk if it is not available.” Jan 21, 2008 by
Terri from Cedar Falls, IA
“Nice furnishings and room size, beds very comfortable with quality linens. Real problem with enough hot water.” Jan 16, 2008 by
Cody from Ames, IA
“This hotel is located right Downtown within walking distance to everything. The amenities were clean and well maintained. The room could have been updated a bit more, but it was quite comfortable with plenty of storage.” Jan 14, 2008 by
Brandy from High Point, NC
“Friendly, intelligent staff. Location is perfect. Beautiful view of the city. Very classy room.” Dec 30, 2007 by
Tim from Scottsdale, AZ
“Hotel was centrally located and the room was clean and in relatively good shape. Televisions are older and cable channels are limited and, without a decent guide, the channels were confusing. Bathroom was very small. Curved shower curtain provided ample room in the shower and the showerhead provided a good quantity of water flow and nice hot water.” Dec 26, 2007 by
Molly from Ames, IA
“A little difficult to Navigate to once off the interstate. Clean, large and updated room, bathroom. Best part was the heating unit was not in the window making loud on/off transition all night.” Dec 14, 2007 by
Kevin from Swisher, IA
“I would go to this hotel again. Very enjoyable time for us and the kids. This hotel would be good for our family to spend a weekend to relax (we often go to a hotel for a weekend just to relax and let the kids swim.) Also good for me and my wife to spend a weekend alone with entertainment on Fridays at their hotel restaurant and fine dining. They have a great brunch.” Dec 10, 2007 by
Mark from New Ulm, MN
“Couldn't help but feel a little second class due to notion that no non double bed rooms were an option.” Dec 9, 2007 by
Mark from Iowa City, IA
“We crawled into bed and my wife felt something touch her foot. We looked and found a used facial tissue in our bed. We then saw a hair near it. It appeared that the sheets weren't changed after the last people stayed here. We called down and staff came and remade our beds while we stood waiting. We then found a large spider near the bed. At check out they never said anything about it, didn't even ask us how our stay was. They should have at the very least apologized for the tissue. One of the staff that changed the bedding that night did say she was sorry, that was it.” Dec 5, 2007 by
Michael from Cedar Rapids, IA
“This hotel charged $6.00 a day for parking and it was a 3 star hotel.” Dec 4, 2007 by
Jacob from Overland, MO
“The staff and food represent two of the excellent features about the hotel. My daughter and I went to the pool late at night and the bar person delivered our food to us because she saw that my daughter was overly eager to jump into the water. And the chicken and fish we ordered were, surprisingly, very moist.” Nov 28, 2007 by
Kerri A. from Denton, TX
“This hotel was hard to get to, terrible check in experience, elevator was at least 10 min wait, dirty bathrooms, long walk to get into hotel and to room.” Nov 28, 2007 by
Teresa from Lusby, MD
“The hotel and location is wonderful. The indoor pool is not heated and should be. There is a center next door that has concerts and you can hear the music (bass primarily) as if it is being played in the room adjourned to your own this went on until 11:00 pm. Hotel should inform you of concerts so that you are aware in advance.” Nov 27, 2007 by
Jennifer from Eagan, MN
“The Business Center had no toner for both of their printers. I was told they ordered it on Monday, but still didn't have one on Friday! Toner cartridges are not that hard to come by these days! They did not offer to print documents using their printers behind the counter that worked. Also, first night we were there, the city issued a water boil notice. A pipe had burst due to construction from the storm system into the public water system. When checking in, this was not mentioned. We only found out b/c we watched the local news. After I asked at the front desk, we were given bottled water to use for drinking & brushing teeth, etc. The guests should have been told this when checking in, not after several hours! We had 1 King bed & I needed 2 double beds. I spoke with the young lady & asked to change it, she said she did, but when we arrived we were booked into a King room. Luckily, they had another double available, but this made me cautious about the experience to come.” Nov 26, 2007 by
Adrienne from Gothenburg, NE
“The room was very nice and clean. The pool was not heated and you had to pay to park. The staff was very rude, but overall we were happy with our stay.” Nov 20, 2007 by
Mitch from Garner, IA
“Overall stay was great, rooms clean, quiet and comfortable. Had neighbors on both sides, could not hear a single move they made. Walls are definitely made to minimize sound. This is a Downtown hotel, so it has seen a lot of use. Some areas such as the room bathroom could use a remodel, but for the star rating and price this is a great value. Would stay here again.” Nov 19, 2007 by
Eric from Indianapolis, IN
“Good Downtown location with clean, reasonably appointed rooms. The hotel could use room furnishing updates/upgrades. Friendly, helpful staff.” Nov 15, 2007 by
Krista from Clinton, IA
“Overall this hotel is an average hotel.” Nov 14, 2007 by
Tom from Dubuque, IA
“If it wasn't for the high school volleyball tournament it would have been great. But the kids were noisy and security was not the greatest. The hotel needs to have a policy regarding high school kids and parents in the room.” Nov 8, 2007 by
Charlie from Lancaster, PA
“The mattresses on the beds need to be replaced with new ones. The room decor could use some updating. The shower was great.” Nov 6, 2007 by
Steve from Fairfield, IA
“With the exception of the parking issue, this hotel meet at exceeded my expectations. I still feel for a hotel of this caliber, they should work out a deal where they pay the parking.” Nov 2, 2007 by
Rachael from Knoxville, IA
“Friendly staff. Garage parking a plus. Nice curb appeal. Lobby and hallways nicely furnished and clean. Room was another matter. Carpet needed vacuumed and spotted, bed skirt was stained\soiled. Neighbors easily heard.” Oct 30, 2007 by
Jim from Kansas City, MO
“Reserved a nonsmoking room, but went to the hotel as smoking. Call the hotel reservation line and said I need a nonsmoking room. I was told it would be taken care of. When checking in, was given a smoking room. The manager said the hotel was sold out and made no effort to help out. Dozens of people checked in after me, so they had other rooms available. The manager was too lazy or unwilling to help.” Oct 14, 2007 by
Eric from Denver, CO
“The staff and commendation of the Crowne Plaza Five Season in Cedar Rapids was a pleasant surprise. It was a hotel that I would have expected in the downtown area of any number of mid to large American cities like Denver, Phoenix, or Seattle. But not necessarily in a small city like Cedar Rapids, Iowa. The staff was friendly, polished, and helpful. I was a bit apprehensive that it was attached to a event center. But again I was surprised. One evening of our stay there it hosted a concert that drew a much younger crowd. Not only did we have no inkling that the concert was going on until we left for the evening from not being able to hear it inside the hotel, but there was not the usual pandemonium that tends to happen with these sorts of things in the hotel itself. I would highly recommend the Crowne Plaza Five Season when staying in Cedar Rapids. It is centrally located with easy quick access to all major attractions of Cedar Rapids and maintains a high level comfort and professionalism that I have seen lacking from the other hotels of the same stature in this Iowa city.” Oct 13, 2007 by
Catherine from American Fork, UT
“We arrived late in the evening & everything was prepared for us. It was a large hotel, but we could come and go and not see anyone. The rooms were comfortable and had everything we needed. It was located conveniently for our activities and we had a wonderful time while there.” Oct 12, 2007 by
Tom from Green Bay, WI
“The room was very nice and clean, with nice amenities and unique touches. Lobby and common areas were very nice. Restaurant was closed on Sunday night, but there were nice restaurant choices within walking distance staff was helpful in selecting. Attached parking was convenient, but cost $6/day.” Oct 7, 2007 by
Barry from Evansville, IN
“Fine for business traveler needing downtown hotel or meeting facilities. Others may prefer one of the hotels "out on the highway" closer to shopping and dining options.” Oct 3, 2007 by
Susan from Eagan, MN
“Loved the hotel.” Oct 3, 2007 by
Carol from Milwaukee, WI
“This hotel is comfortable and clean. The breakfast buffet I had was very poor quality and cold. I therefore did not eat any other meals there. I hate the fact that you are quoted a price for a hotel and then parking is also tacked onto your bill. This should be disclosed up front, not after the fact.” Oct 1, 2007 by
Sherry from Windsor, CA
“Check-in person was rude. The toilet sent was dirty and when I ask the day manager to make sure it was cleaned it took 2 days. The first night I was there I had trouble with the internet, talked to front desk & then the help line which he said probably too many people online. 2 nights later I was on the phone with the help line for 1 1/2 hours, the front desk switched my bridge but it took 2 hours before I could get on the internet. Broad selection on TV channels in bar but limited channels in rooms they said bar had a different package.” Sep 26, 2007 by
Kerry from Rock Iland, IL
“I was disappointed this time with this hotel. As I mentioned above the room was not as clean as it could have been. The window imprints were gross and the mirror above the desk as bad. We called and confirmed our room, asked for two beds and smoking and was assured we could have it. We got neither; they did get us a rough conference table and supplied chairs. We then asked for a tablecloth which helped the table. If I had known we couldn't get a smoking room I would have not stayed there. For the money. (The price was not a good discount.) I could have stayed elsewhere. The parking was not in a secure well light area, and a safer neighborhood. The bathroom floor was sticky and dirty. We used towels to line the floor. I am sorry; this trip was not as enjoyable.” Sep 26, 2007 by
Linda from Brandenburg, KY
“My friend and I thought our king size room was lovely. It was very clean and the maid service kept it clean. We would stay here any time we are in Cedar Rapids.” Sep 18, 2007 by
Robert from Murphy, TX
“Overall the Crowne Plaza is still a nice hotel conveniently located in downtown Cedar Rapids. I have stayed there often over the years, and can say sadly the hotel is definitely beginning to show its age. At this last stay, the hotel staff at registration was much less professional and accommodating than in previous visits." For example, I had no choice of a non-smoking/smoking room, the view (city or railroad tracks), preferred floor level (I like upper levels), and even the type of beds. Hence, in my last two stays I was "issued" a smoke-stink room directly below the noisy kitchen, then a room on the third floor next to the ice-maker with a lovely view of a brick wall!” Hotel Representatives:
