“This hotel provides large clean rooms with two swimming pool areas to choose from. The location was very good for accessing the downtown area and close to Canal Park. It was easy to go to other places from here. The free off street parking was an added bonus.”

• Restaurants in hotel were dirty and awful!

• The location is great and we love having a refrigerator.
• It is getting old and worn.

“Some people have allergies and asthma which make a smoking room really hard to handle. Basically okay but getting a bit worn.”

• They were very fast at supplying more toiletries.
• The shower was wet.

“Overall I was very pleased with this hotel. The staff was wonderful and the room was great. The only thing I wished was that the bathroom had been cleaned and the toiletries replaced. Though when I called for some new ones they had them up to me in four minutes or less.”

• Beds were comfortable, decor was lovely.
• Location was disgusting, no window, dark room.

“The window looked over a public skywalk - could not see outside. We asked to be moved but they claimed no rooms were available other than a room with 1 bed (there were 3 of us) and would charge for a cot.”

• Front desk was not helpful at all. Restaurants close early, not a 3 star.

“Negative: Do not expect anything from front desk employees, restaurants are not good. Positive: Best location, free wireless internet, clean rooms, free parking.”

• Comfortable, clean beds, two nice pool areas, convenient location.
• Room was not as clean as could be - a staffing problem I think as my daughter's room on another floor was fine.

“Hard to find the parking lot with one way streets and no signage. However, parking was adequate and free. Staff was courteous and efficient. Room had fridges, always a welcome feature. Beds and linens were new and nice. Pool areas were clean and attended by a Security Guard. Sauna was not very hot though. Our housekeeper was not up to par. Room was not cleaned till 5 pm even though we were out of the room from 10:30 am till 4:45 pm. Upon returning, we were told to vacate as the room had to be done before 5 pm - her quitting time. Carpet was not vacuumed. Patio glass doors were not cleaned. We were only given bath towels, no hand towels and no face cloths. Dust was thick on armoire and bed table. Need some qa/qc with staff. Extra training? All in all, a good hotel that I would refer friends to.”

“The first two rooms were smoking rooms, which we couldn't use. One of them still had a cigarette butt in a tray, so we questioned the cleanliness of the room. Our third room was adequate. The beds and linen were very nice, but the hotel itself was very rundown. We would not stay there again.”

• Like most hotels, it was short of outlets for laptops, and chargers.

“A good value in the center of Duluth. Clean, free covered parking, large rooms all made for a nice place to recover from a week in the Minnesota north country. I was surprised that this hotel still uses glass water glasses, given the bad press cleaning staffs have received lately about how they are cleaned. Overall this was a great place to stay.”

• The 8th floor pool was nice.
• The temperature was not adjustable and was uncomfortable. The A/C was caked with cigarette smut.

“The hotel was nice. The staff was not very friendly. The room temperature was not adjustable and we were very hot in one room and cold in the other. (I forgot my memory foam pillow in a green bamboo-fiber pillowcase on the bed and when I called later that day they said no one turned it in.”

“We arrived in early and I was very happy that they let us check in to our hotel 2 hours early. The staff was very friendly and attentive. The hotel was very clean. Parking in the ramp was convenient and also free.”

“Got a king suite overlooking the lake. The hotel will be in need of renovation in the next few years. Still a nice hotel and we had a very pleasant stay and the room was very nice, tasteful and clean.”

• One of the rooms was smoking and the other was two twin beds.

“For those looking for a getaway in Duluth, this is NOT the hotel for you. Although the location is great, they will more than likely stick you with a smoking room, two twin beds, and right next to the pool. The staff was less than accommodating as we arrived early and still were not able to get a non-smoking room.”

“This hotel meets mostly all my expectations and surpassed some as well. The only negative thing and very minimal at that, is the food in the restaurants in the lower level of the hotel. To put it simply the food in the restaurants was very blan and tasteless. However the hotel is surrounded by many other restaurants that will accommodate the taste buds.”

• The pool area was very nice and my daughter loved it. It was nice to be in the atrium area.
• Quietness of the rooms. We could hear a lot of the activity outside our room.

• Service at Porter's Restaurant was horrible. Did not feel safe on streets outside hotel.

“Our room was very nice. The room and hotel seemed very clean. Staff was courteous and friendly. Sneaker's Bar, Grill had good food and good service. Porter's restaurant had poor service, but food was good. Location of hotel didn't seem to be in a very safe area, but skyway and parking ramps seemed secure. Convenience to Canal Park area good. Overall, good trip and worth the money.”

• Even though it was in the middle of town, I liked the off street entrance.
• Lots of transients milling around during the day out on the street.

• There are not adequate restaurants in the hotel or around it.

“The hotel staff was friendly and helpful. The entrance is confusing. We arrived at 6:00 pm and there were many restaurants open other than Bar and Grill not sure if it were the hotels. I wouldn't want to take my kids into that atmosphere.”

• They give you free parking Downtown (though parking is not really that hard to find in Duluth).
• This hotel is far too expensive for the level of quality.

“There was nothing wrong with my room, but it was really no better than staying at a Super 8 (which I have also done). In fact, Super 8 gives you coffee and doughnuts in th morning - the Holiday Inn does not even give you that.”

• Small tub.

“This was a pleasant surprise. We weren't too excited about staying here; said how noisy it was, especially by the pool area. We requested a room away from the pools (the 11th floor) and it was very quiet. The view was decent and the room was a nice size. The only complaint we had was the tub was small and old. The staff was friendly and check-in was relatively painless. I understand the reason, but it just created some difficulty as my husband wasn't readily available and I had to wait for him in order to complete our check-in. I would recommend this hotel to someone that's traveling with kids or a business traveler, but not if you're planning a romantic weekend away.”

• The view, location, room service and numerous amenities (2 pools, 3 restaurants, and stores downstairs!).
• The fitted sheets were too small for the bed, and navigating the building is complicated.

• Starbucks coffee in the Greenery! Large, clean room. Nice balcony overlooking the pool area. Nice location, near attractions and skywalk.
• Other guests were very loud in the hallways all night and into the morning.

“Overall we had a great stay. We tried all three restaurants in the hotel and liked them all. Our room was very nice, clean, spacious, lots of pillows, etc. The location was excellent, lots of restaurants, shopping and other attractions nearby. The only negative was the noise level in the hallway outside our room the second night of our stay. There was some kind of event in the ballroom and people were running and yelling in the hall off and on all night long.”
