• Hotel was close to dinning and shopping.
• Iron was broken and the air conditioner leaked bad room and hall smelled of mildew.

“The hotel was very clean, but an older hotel. It is conveniently located off the highway near lots of restaurants. The only complaint I had was the smell in the first floor hallway. It was disgusting!”

• Restaurants, location to highway.
• Rooms located next to indoor swimming pool & first floor are very noisy.

“Overall, a nice family place to stay. I would not recommend this hotel to romantic couples or older couples looking for some peace and quiet. I have no complaints with the room's cleanliness and size. Avoid the first floor if you plan on staying here. The first floor is very noisy, with the indoor pool, fitness areas, and constant opening and closing of the main hallway door. My room was on the first floor next to the pool and it was really loud, so much so that we asked to be moved but they were all booked up for the night.”

• Hard to find way through halls. Need more direction signs.

• We enjoyed the indoor pool. The beds were very comfortable.
• Our sheets on our bed were stained with what looked like blood. The towels were dingy, stained and rough.

“For the cost of the hotel room, we were not impressed. The staff was not very attentive and the sheets and towels were stained and dingy. On the flip side, the beds were out of this world comfortable.”

• Very nice exercise/swimming area. Best I have ever seen. The rest of the hotel was undergoing allot of renovation so kind of messy.
• Room too hot. Could not control temperature. Paint smell.

• The woman who checked us in was excellent.
• Gratuity automatically added to breakfast bill. 20% is too much for a buffet with poor service.

• The hotel charged me again for the room and I don't know why.

• Age showing in bathroom. Below standard of rest of the package. Baseboard area not clean. Towels rough and thin. Needed comfortable chairs.

• The wireless internet in the room at no cost and the business center that has fax service at no cost.
• The restaurant options of persons of my age did not meet my needs.

• Billed us three times for the same stay and refused to correct the situation.

• Conveniently located, nice pool area, great flat screen TV.
• Dirty, stained, chipped paint, low lighting in bathroom.

“I would not recommend this hotel to anyone interested in cleanliness. After check-in we went to the elevator and I would not let my children touch the elevator button. The entire brass plate was filthy and covered with fingerprints and grime as were the buttons and plate inside the elevator. The doors to all the rooms were covered in smudges and grimy areas at the bottom and around the knobs. There were some nice attributes-the common areas were decorated nicely-the flat screen TV was a big hit with my husband and kids-the outdoor pool area was great-but it was overshadowed by the lack of cleanliness.”

• Simply very pleased. I do not like the heating systems at motels.

“Very pleased. Concerning heating and a/c systems. Tend to be noisy, although this was less noisy. Type of system tends to create a very "dry" room.”

“The staff was friendly and very helpful. We were in town to attend a wedding. Upon our late arrival they suggested a good restaurant for dinner and the next day arranged a late check out so that we could change our clothes before starting home.”

• The exercise facility was excellent!
• The room had lumpy carpet, an ancient furnace and a shower that moved!

“The Holiday Inn Select is an acceptable facility that could be MUCH better if they focused on updating some of their rooms, labeling smoking/non-smoking areas appropriately, and putting customers in non-smoking when they request it. They did not have non-smoking when I checked in, yet had it within hours. The smoking area was marked as non-smoking but the hallway stunk like smoke and it WAS the smoking area - confusing!”

• The pools and fitness center were nice.
• It was not clean and service was variable.

“On a card in the room, this particular hotel advertises "pillow" services. They say they want to ensure you have a comfortable night's sleep by providing your choice of pillow firmness. So my husband calls at midnight when he realizes that he does not like the pillows in the room. But apparently you must know your pillow sleeping preferences during the day, as the attendant stated that the supply was locked and to call back in the morning.--Not so helpful if you're just staying 1 night. Also, it looked like the place hadn't been vacuumed in a month and there was white body powder visibly covering an upholstered chair in our room. The giant screen plasma TV was nice, but the remote only worked half the time.”

• Attractive fountains and a well equipped gym.
• They gave me keys to someone else's room, the beds are too small, the staff were unhelpful and gave wrong advice, a number of things were not working.

“This hotel has the potential of being a very nice stopping place but unfortunately the staff let it down and the general lack of upkeep was concerning. The staff seemed very casual about the fact that they had given me access to someone else's room and all of their possessions I had no confidence that this was a rare occurrence and that the same thing would not happen to my room. There were no clean towels at the pools and we were advised that we could not use the outside pool because it was being used for a private function - the outside pool was the very reason we booked the hotel!”

• It was a nice hotel considering the age of the building.
• While it wasn't Bad for families it really wasn't geared for them either.

“This is a great hotel for a business trip or a romantic getaway. It's not really geared for families. The rooms were more spacious than most, especially the bathrooms. The pool and weight room are great. It is an older building and has all the pro's and con's that go with that. They do have a tendency to nickel & dime you on the extras like phone calls and meals. It is probably the nicest hotel in Columbia.”

• One clerk at check-in was friendly. A young woman.
• Cleanliness and staff in lounge were horrible!

“I would never stay at this facility again. It is generally un-kept and other than the one young woman at the check-in counter when we arrived, their staff were rude and inattentive. I don't know if the attached Sports Zone lounge is actually a part of this facility, but that was an absolutely horrendous experience. Bartenders and wait staff seemed to be more interested in a couple of young ladies sitting at the bar than other patrons. Abruptly announced that they were closing shortly after midnight and were extremely rude in their demeanor. One waiter there named Mark should absolutely be fired and has no business being in the customer service industry. An absolutely awful experience and I will not return.”

• Staff was very nice and the workout (fitness) facility was the best I have ever seen. It was incredible. Also enjoyed the plasma TV's.
• The neighbor of mine was kind of loud at times with the TV, but not too big of a deal.

• Distance to walk at night from the parking lot (it was full) and it was dark.

• Liked having a coffee pot in the room. Liked receiving USA Today.
• Rooms didn't have much insulation, too noisy. Towels were very rough.

“It was fine for my purposes. I was there because of a family member in the hospital and it met my needs completely. One night and two days there was a homeless person parked in his car in the very front of the hotel. I did not like this.”

• Pool, exercise room, hot tub.
• The salon at the hotel charged $18 for a blow dry for my child. No cut, no products, just a blow dry. Very upset!!

• beautiful lobby
• not clean, no security no fridge or micro

“If you are looking for an elaborate lobby this is it! BUT thats as far as it goes! our room was not clean, cobwebs, spiderwebs &spider in bathroom. Marks on walls,dirt of carpet by nightstand. Hairdryer did not work, no fridge,no micro, smallest sink area I have ever seen and we had a handicap room. One of the elevators was out of order and when we went to get on the other one the door shut on my arm giving me a large bruise, when we reported it to the main desk nothing was done about it. when they ask you to fill out a survey they ask how was security? What security??? is a better question, we saw NO security at all and a car very close to ours had their windshield shattered and items stolen. would I stay there again NO WAY!!! ”
