Overall Rating: 3 User Rating Score: 3
Cleanliness:[6] • Staff:[4] • Location:[5]

  • The ability to walk to other businesses, Mayo clinic without having to be outside in during inclement weather.
  • Our room and bathroom were very, very small, coat closet has more room than bathroom.

“This hotel is fine if you are looking just for a place to rest your head, but not if you are looking for a weekend away, our particular room/bath was very small. Great location if you are visiting the famed Mayo Clinic and several restaurants/shops to choose from, but parking is another issue, you pay to park in their (the hotel) ramp and if their ramp is full, you will be lugging your luggage a couple of blocks if you are lucky to find another ramp with parking.”

Cleanliness:[8] • Staff:[5] • Location:[8]

  • Nice room.
  • Parking was an unexpected extra cost.

“I have never been to a 2 star hotel before where I had to pay extra to park my car overnight. I expected free parking to be a part of a two star rating. You really need to tell the customer if parking is an extra charge. I feel like I got ripped off this time.”

  • Small, room, bad shower water not regulated.

“This hotel is way out dated and desperately needs help. It is very old and not that clean. I do not think it has even old hotel charm. The only good thing is its location.”

Overall Rating: 4 User Rating Score: 4
Cleanliness:[3] • Staff:[10] • Location:[10]

  • The public spaces are beautiful.
  • The rooms are ancient, it needs updated really badly.

“The hotel is in a great location. The exterior and lobby are beautiful. My room was incredibly small. Room seems to be a corner suite that was divided into 3 different rooms. When entering the room you have to go from the main hallway through a door, then into a hallway that is about 2 foot wide. When I checked in another guest was trying to leave his room that was directly across from my door. I had to go all the way back out to the main hall to let him out of his room. It's a very strange setup and Im surprised it's not a fire and safety hazard. The room was clean but extremely outdated. Overall it was a real disappointment.”

May 25, 2006 by Jill from Hull, IA
Overall Rating: 5 User Rating Score: 5
Cleanliness:[1] • Staff:[8] • Location:[10]

  • Good location.
  • Stinky room/sheets.

“The difference in the rooms was shocking. The first night, the room had a strong odor and the sheets smelled like they had been washed in something with a strong odor. There were two twin beds. The second night. The room was a lot better. There were two full beds, no odor, and the room had been updated. Had we known better rooms were available, we may have requested a different room the first night. However, we got in late, didn't want to complain... It was bad. If we had the second room both nights, we would have been satisfied.”

Overall Rating: 8 User Rating Score: 8
Cleanliness:[9] • Staff:[10] • Location:[9]

  • This hotel was in the perfect location for a trip to Rochester.
  • The furnishings were worn and dated, in need of redecorating. There was a $10 charge for parking, but no attendant.

“There is little wonder why the Kahler Grand is the hotel of choice for international patients at the Mayo Clinic. It is conveniently located, professionally staffed, and offers multiple fine dining choices. Some charges may be excessive, such as the parking. Many floors are beautifully appointed, though some rooms have not been redecorated in several years.”
