• Customer service was poor, and parking was not free.

“Staff was not friendly over the phone. They were accommodating when the AC didn't work in my room. But at no time was I ever told that parking was not free. The hotel staff was very rude about it, trying to tell me that any big city you must pay for parking. I know that is untrue because I have stayed in big cities many times and have never paid to park.”

• I loved the pool and whirlpool, both were nice and warm.

“This hotel was very close to the Ordway where we went to White Christmas. We were able to walk to it. It is also across the street from the Excel energy center. Even though our room was next to the street, it was very quiet. The restaurant in the hotel was excellent.”

“This hotel is close to downtown attractions. Staff was very friendly and accommodating. The rooms were clean and comfortable. The only downfall was the parking fee. Would recommend this hotel, for sure.”

• The staff behind the counter went above and beyond. They were super!
• I would not recommend the hotel simply because of the hotel maids. Maids did not restock items that were used.

“We had to go to the front desk each day we were there to get items that were not restocked during the cleaning process for example: coffee, sweet-n-low, towels, wash cloths. It became a hassle. If it weren't for that we would highly recommend the hotel.”

• The location was perfect. Really nice part of the city.
• We had to get our room cards reprogrammed a number of times. It was annoying.

“Great location - really nice outdoor eating/drinking area. The pool/hot tub was nice but pretty small. Luckily we had it all to ourselves the few times we went there. Workout room was nice. Rooms were nice and staff was really friendly.”

“Excellent location and friendly staff. The Life had wonderful food and staff and many of the local pubs and eateries were close and delicious. Parking is crazy and expensive, but that is the way it is everywhere in Downtown St. Paul.”

• It was very clean, convenient location and the rooms were nicer than I expected for a Holiday Inn.
• The staff was rude, the rooms next to us were noisy, and it didn't seem like the safest neighborhood.

“Very clean hotel, convenient location, nicer rooms than any other Holiday Inn that I've been to. On the downside the staff when I checked in was rude as was the parking garage staff. The air conditioning didn't work very quickly in our room, it took hours to cool it down which made it difficult to sleep. The rooms next to us were noisy (though that isn't really the hotel's fault). We saw a lot of shady characters hanging around nearby, I wouldn't go wandering the neighborhood at night.”

• I liked the comfort of the king sized bed.
• It was difficult to find the entrance to the hotel upon arrival. I did not like paying $14 for parking.

• Location was good for event attended but area had nothing else to offer during free time.
• The surprise charge I received for parking that was unknown to me.

“The hotel itself, employees, and bar/restaurant were excellent and the location was great for the event attended. Unfortunately there was nothing else close to the motel for any recreation on free time. Also when I arrived at the hotel I was then informed that I would be charged an extra $15 for parking my car, other than that it was good.”

• The location, staff and food was excellent.
• They couldn't get our air to work, but they tried.

“If you are seeing an event at the Excel Center, this is the perfect location to stay. The staff was very attentive and friendly, the food in the restaurant was wonderful, and the room was clean and comfortable. There was a small fridge in the room which was convenient for us to store our own water and snacks for us (and me being 7 months pregnant), and our son. The one problem we had was they couldn't get the AC to work in our room, but the maintenance staff tried several times, and they could not have been friendlier. The hotel was signed-us-in that night so they couldn't move us, but we didn't care; if I wasn't pregnant it would not have been an issue, and they were so nice about it we told them it was not a big deal and we were fine. They gave us comp. breakfast in the restaurant, which we weren't able to use the next day, so they comp'd. our parking. Overall, very satisfied and we'll definitely stay there again.”

• The restaurant was excellent and more helpful than the hotel.
• Travel services, cleanliness, and overall staff.

“The only nice person on there whole staff was a lady who worked the afternoon evening shift on the days I was there, everyones else did nothing to help with travel, or even try to help. The rooms were not clean, the tub had black stuff in it, and I would not reccommend this hotel to anyone. This is not a business or family friendly place to stay. They are not a three star hotel. I would never stay there again. The Holiday Inn Expresses are cleaner than that was and the Days Inn also.”

• Dog in next room can hear doors slamming and talking all night.

“There was a dog whining in the middle of the night even though there should have been no dog in the hotel. Can hear people talking and doors slamming at all times of the night which neither was conducive to a nights rest. Feel as though the hotel could have done more to rectify.”

• Location to the excel Energy Center is one of the great features.
• The decor may have been a little bit dated.

“This hotel is conveniently located right across the street from the excel Energy Center. Awesome location for events there. Hotel is easy to get to, and seems very secure. Not a glamorous hotel, but is clean and quiet.”

• The counter space in the bathroom was minimal.

“The hotel is very nice. It is also right across the street from the Xcel Energy Center which was very nice. Although they charge you to park in the hotel's parking lot which I think is crazy. All in all its a good place very close to attractions but very expensive.”

“This what across from the St. Paul convention center which is why we stayed there. Clean. Staff polite. You could hear everything in the hall in bed in the room. Along an Interstate this type of place would have been $69 a night. It was very overpriced. For about the same amount you could have stayed in a much nicer place a little further away.”

• Had to pay extra $13.00 for parking with no other option or warning. No hot water in morning.

• Noise in hallway; room door was not soundproofed.

“It was true that the noise in the hallways was very audible, although the noise in the adjacent rooms was not. Before I arrived, I asked for (and received) a room at the end of a hallway with only one adjacent room, and for the most part it was very quiet. It was also good sized and faced the back of the hotel, which I would imagine to be a quieter location in general. But again, the only noise problem seemed to be related to the room doors, which are about as soundproof as a cardboard door would've been. Windows and walls seemed to be soundproofed well.”

“This was a good hotel for the money and our expectations. We didn't hear noise from other rooms, but did easily hear people in the hallway. The room itself was pleasant and comfortable. The front desk staff was very helpful and friendly. Great location for downtown activities.”

• I really liked the location and its accessibility to the area. The restaurant was excellent.
• It was very noisy at night due to events in the area. Security finally had to be called at 11pm.

“Other than the noise problems of other guests in the evening, and the lack of friendliness upon check in, the hotel experience was a good one. The location is excellent and the restaurant provided great atmosphere as well as food. The hotel did what they could to compensate us for the noise level, which was much appreciated.”

“When arrived at hotel I was given 2 double beds on a smoking floor with a smoking room. Yuk! Smelled horrible! The hotel attendant had me check the room out and had the room sprayed for me. It helped a little but not totally! They hotel had no rooms available for me to change. The floor was smoking so every time you opened the door it stunk! Also, then they charged us 14.00 each night to park in the garage, the hotel was not nice enough for that, you would think I was in some ritzy downtown hotel.”

“Be aware that the parking is $13. Over the price of the room. Surprise. The keys for our room would not work, but were replaced when we returned to the desk with them. For our trouble we were given a coupon for a free drink.”

• The parking was overly expensive and complicated.

“River Centre Holiday Inn in St Paul is an upscale and comfortable hotel convenient to down-town and waterfront attractions in St Paul. It's also convenient to many of the colleges in the area and is minutes from several freeways and relatively close to the airport.”

• Its location was quite convenient for the things that we had planned to do on this trip. Staff dealt with guest noise quickly.
• The kids would have liked a bigger pool, but they loved their breakfasts.

“Would not stay here again but it was nice to have the excel center across the street. The room was small for the money. The bathroom was too big; they could have used some of the bathroom space for the room space. I don't agree with the fact that people who stay at the hotel have to pay for parking in the garage when the price for a room is high enough of the way it is.”

• Close to the Science Museum.
• Pay for parking, security of my car in danger.

“The hotel was nice and in a good location as far as stuff to do (Excel Energy, Science Museum). But to Pay for parking at an upscale hotel seems a bit ironic. Also it wasn't in a parking garage or shared space with hotel guests only; it doubled as an event parking space as well. Plus the hotel takes no responsibility for lost or damaged goods though you have to pay to park on their premises.”
