• Beautiful view, clean, nice pool, comfy beds.
• Parking.

“This is a comfortable place to stay, especially if you want to be close to the downtown life. The great farmers market Sat mornings and good restaurants. The skywalk system makes it easy to get anywhere without braving the elements.”

“Nice quality hotel. Great valet service, but pricey. Pool area adequate. Workout area was very nice. Nice that the pool/workout area is on 3rd floor and you don't have to walk through people checking in to get there.”

• Quality on the decline, indifferent staff.

“Aging with indifferent management, probably trying to squeeze out all the goodies before sale or renovation. They still charge $13.00 daily for in room internet. Parking in city garage inconvenient, but location central and Des Moines probably has the cleanest, safest and neatest downtown in the country. Stay here if you have a good reason to be downtown, otherwise try West Des Moines.”

“We attended a festival Downtown and the hotel was only 6 blocks away. Room was nice, lobby was nice and personnel were excellent (efficient and friendly). My only complaint was the restaurant menu was limited.”

• The girl at the front desk that met me first was very helpful.
• The valet parker was not friendly, we pulled up to unload and she told us we had to move.

“When we pulled up to the parking the valet girl told us we had to move. We were not using the valet parking and my husband had just unloaded the suit cases and she kept telling us we had to move. By the way there was no car behind us at the time either. We felt just because we weren't using valet parking that we couldn't pull up to the motel to unload.”

• The elevators were slow and it is a high rise hotel.

“Long and short it was great. Very nice Marriott hotel. Would like there to be free wireless in the rooms or at least more terminals with internet in the business center, but other than that and the elevator speed it was great!”

• Excellent location. Nice accommodations.
• Starting to become outdated and dark.

“Could not have asked for a better hotel for the money. Incredible location, within 2 blocks of everything in downtown Des Moines. The staff was extremely helpful and accommodating, much like a 5 star hotel. Hotel is a little outdated, but would highly recommend this hotel to anyone.”

• My room was right, next to the ice/coke machines and the elevator which I heard through the night.

• The first three employees we walked by all smiled and asked if we were having a great day.
• Staff replaced all sheets immediately.

“Upon arrival, we were warmly greeted by three employees. All of them asked how our day was. The valet explained that they charge to valet but parking is free on the street on weekends. I thought that was really nice that he did that, because he didn't have to. Very nice rooms. No closet-only a TV cabinet/closet. Nice bathroom with granite countertops. Would stay again.”

Frustrating event at check in was told there were no rooms with king-size beds available, so, just for fun, I called the hotel front desk from the lobby pretending to be a traveler and inquired if there were any rooms with king-size beds left and learned there were plenty.”

“I got to the hotel at 11:30 p.m. after a full day of flying to attend a family funeral. The room that I called ahead and requested (no smoking/king) had been given to someone else. All other rooms were sold out. I was given a smoking/double room in the following condition: the window was open with no screen, bugs on the wall, air conditioner broken, reported to high school girl at front desk who didn't know anything about air-conditioners but would leave a note for maintenance to look at in the morning. I have a medical condition that would not allow me to stay in the smoke filled, non air-conditioned room so I had no choice but to leave and find another place to stay.”

• The waitress at the restaurant was very nice. She did her job well.

• No downside to our visit.

• Room clean, bathroom clean (but not blow dryer), bed comfy.
• Valet and parking needs work. Drive in front of hotel too small for the amount of traffic.

“The room was great. The bed was every comfortable. The bathroom was clean, no mold or mildew in the shower. Only complaint about the room was there was no blow dryer in the bathroom. The only other complaint is the parking situation. The driveway was far too small for all the traffic they have. Checked in at 8 pm on Friday night and couldn't find a space to park for 10 minutes while I checked in and took my bags to my room. I left and came back around 11 pm and still a mess. When I called to valet to get my car the next morning, they said they were backed up and just got to the valet counter at the drive. When I got downstairs there were 30 people waiting for cars. I waited a while for my car but got lucky and it came before many who were waiting before me.”

• Our glasses/plates/drinks were dirty.

“Overall it was a good stay they were not prepared for the amount of people that were there 2 or 3 weddings ran out of food/drinks the glasses, plates were dirty bartender had a hard time finding one that was clean they had already been washed and put in cooler.”

• Food was good.
• Room was next to elevator and it was 32 floors so I heard the elevator going all night.

“The parking was for an over sized truck they were rude at the valet. I pulled in to pick up boxes that were setting right inside the door I had to move and park in street. Walk in the rain across the street to get my boxes that were 30 feet away from me when I pulled in. Room was bad was next to elevator sounded like airplanes taking off all night.”

• Excellent beds! Great pillows and bedding. Plus a high-definition flat screen TV.
• Valet parking was expensive - $17 a day.

“This is our second stay at this hotel and we like it a lot. Convenient location, friendly staff, comfy beds with good pillows, flat screen TV - we appreciated them all. Room was well-maintained and very clean. We hope to stay again in future visits to Des Moines.”

• I loved the shuttle service available to guests and that the hotel was connected to the Skywalk.
• It would have been nice to have a microwave or small refrigerator in the room.

“I've stayed at this hotel off and on for 25 years as a business and leisure traveler but since I last stayed there they've eliminated 3 themed restaurants and a cozy lounge and replaced them with a very common restaurant that has average or below food and wait staff. On the positive side, the bell stand was nearly the best I've ever experienced, they were helpful with alternative restaurant selections and provided excellent transportation to and from restaurants and entertainment.”

• It was such beautiful decor in the room and we were able to get easy access to the sky walk system in downtown Des Monies.
• They put an extra bill on our miscellaneous bill and it took quite a while to get it off and we were in a hurry to make an appointment date.

• The shuttle service was excellent and very convenient.
• Restaurant was overpriced and not very good.

“Overall a good hotel placed strategically in downtown. I would recommend it if you are just flying in to do some local business and then flying out. The shuttle service is excellent. The room was clean and comfortable - nothing great, nothing bad. the bar/restaurant closes early and if you can go elsewhere for food I would recommend not eating there - too expensive for what you get.”
