• Comfort, convenience and luxury at an affordable price.
• Parking was expensive.

“The rooms are spacious and inviting, the colors and fabrics exquisite. The beds were very comfortable and the rooms were quiet. Every detail was attended to including natural bath and body products. The staff was helpful. I wish I could have stayed longer. I definitely will stay again.”

• I wish I had known that parking and internet access would cost $30.

• Check-in, check-out very quick and lobby staff eager to help.
• No bath towels on 2nd day but we called and got them right away.

“This was a very pleasant, first stay for us at the Marriott in downtown Des Moines. All staff were not only friendly, but very eager to help and we never waited for anything! Our room was very clean, cozy and quiet. We'd stay again without a doubt!”

• Location was great and the room was great. Beds were very comfortable.
• Parking is not free. On the weekends, you can park at the parking garage across the street but otherwise it's valet parking at the hotel.

• The rooms had been redone recently and were very nice & quiet. Staff was friendly.
• Valet said we must use valet service at pay $17, when we pressed him we were told that the parking garage was free on weekends.

“The hotel and it's rooms were very nice but downtown Des Moines is dead on a Sunday morning with no where to eat breakfast.”

• The valet staff, in particular, recognized us during our entire stay.
• At times, the valet area was crowded. Hard to enter and exit.

“The staff went over the top to accommodate our requests. They delivered a fan to our room to help us in our quest for white noise. These were the valets and bellhops.”

• Great location downtown. Clean spacious room, great price!
• Wireless internet was only available in the lobby

“Nice hotel, great location, clean and spacious. Only fault I found was with the internet. Being in a downtown business location, Internet was available in individual rooms for a fee and internet was not wireless which was an inconvenience. Overall hotel was a great value for the location.”

• Good location.
• Expensive parking.

“This is a standard Marriott in a good location downtown. The moved the bar on the second floor, and I didn't care for the new location or design, but well. Overall I like staying downtown and it is an easy walk to the entertainment district. I prefer this hotel to the Savery, but the bar in the Savory is a lot more pleasant.”

• Clean, elegant, comfortable.
• Everything, and I mean everything (parking, water, coffee, newspaper) cost extra, and a lot extra.

“Elegant, and comfortable, the Marriott provided a romantic, upscale setting for a night in Des Moines. The staff was friendly, but plan on spending extra for little things like parking ($17), water ($3.50), use of a computer to check e-mail ($10/hour), breakfast, and newspaper. Located down town, it is convenient only if your business is down town. Excellent choice if the company is paying, or you are not looking for value. Many more young adults and children than expected.”

• The rooms were very clean.
• Hard to get in to the check in area with one way streets. The pool was so cold kids tried to swim and were cold enough that they had blue lips.

• I liked the downtown location. The hotel lobby was open and inviting.

• The room was superior in every way - luxury beyone expectations.
• The woman at the desk when I checked in was grumpy - possibly it had been a long day for her.

“The hotel was close to the convention I was attending; the parking garage was free and accessible; the room was beyond belief. The attractiveness, the spaciousness, the sheer luxury of the room was such that I used my cell to gloat to friends who had worried about my going alone to a downtown area.”

• Staff was very helpful in changing our room when the first room smelled smoky. Nice pool. Convenient location.
• Hotel went non smoking over a year ago, but carpet looked worn and some areas of hotel smelled of stale smoke. Need to change carpet?

“Pool was lovely, but whirlpool was cold and pool hot. Staff was wonderfully friendly. Few restaurants open late Sunday night but they helped us find a good one. The carpets looked worn, and carpeted public areas of hotel smelled like stale cigarettes.”

• Parking, swimming pool closed (early), fitness room miss abs equipment, vending machine out (8th floor), TV was not flat screen and not much channels.

• This hotel had a great downtown location.
• If you stay during the week, you'll need to pay for parking.

“Our stay at the Marriot Downtown was great! Our room was large and very comfortable, the pool was a perfect temperature, the hot tub was large and nice, but a little too warm for us. The workout room was incredible, lots of equipment with TV's attached to each one to help pass the time. We ate the Sunday brunch at the restaurant, and it was delicious. The location was great, close to many restaurants, the Civic Center, and the farmer's market. We stayed on the weekend, so metered parking was free, but just realize if you stay during the week, you'll have to pay $12/day to park in the garage. Overall, it was an excellent hotel and we plan to stay there again.”

“The only people that were friendly and helpful were the valet service and the guy who did eggs & waffles. Not one other person smiled or even said hello. We would not stay at this motel again!”

• Pay to park? I've never had to do that before at a hotel, and I've been all over!

• The beds were wonderful, no wonder Marriott promotes their sheets, mattresses, etc!
• The bathroom smelled a little musty, but I informed them.

“This was a great experience, my mother and I luxuriated on the beds and spent time in the nice pool/whirlpool.”

• The staff at this hotel was responsive and friendly.
• We were placed next to a large group of loud young men, and were awake most of the first night.

“We have stayed at the Des Moines Marriot several times, and as usual, were generally pleased. Unfortunately this trip, we were right next to some very loud individuals who literally partied all night. Even worse, the rooms were adjoining, so the walls were paper-thin. We chalked it up as bad luck this time, and the staff was very helpful to relocate us for the second evening.”
