• Rudeness of one staff member twice.

“When I got there, the clerk told me that my credit card did not go through. I had to call home, get the bank phone number. Called the bank. They never received a request. She had not run card properly. Went downstairs again and it ran fine. The last day, there was no coffee at 8:20 am. She said she supposed she could make coffee. Same clerk. Please submit to Comfort Inn.”

• Smoking room, pets, ice machine outside our door.

“The access and location are hard to find and access. I was not aware that it was a pet hotel with numerous smoking rooms. We were switched to a non-smoking room and found a cigarette lighter in the chair cushions. My companion is allergic to dogs and needed benadryl to sleep there.”

• The staff was warm and very welcoming both times I have stayed here.
• There is no elevator but there are three floors of rooms. Not very accessible.

“If you are looking for a quick place right next to the airport for the night before or following a flight, this is certainly convenient. The staff was extremely welcoming and warm. However, the parking lot does not have adequate parking spaces (on my return trip there were no spaces available) and most are on a lower level. Arriving at night, I did not feel safe in the parking lot. The lack of an elevator is a problem. This is not a suitable hotel for anyone with mobility challenges and is at best inconvenient for anyone who does not want to drag their luggage up three flights of stairs.”

• I am allergic to feather pillows, they had no alternatives, I had to sleep with a lumpy blanket in a pillowcase.

“This hotel appeared to be a run-down motel 6 grade hotel. The furnishings were shabby, wallpaper coming off of the walls, found dirty socks under the bed. To top it off this hotel only uses feather pillows. I am allergic to feather pillows. I had to use a lumpy blanket stuffed into a pillowcase. What kind of hotel does not have synthetic pillows? Staff at this hotel also on what appeared to be their own personal cell phones vs. attending to customers.”

• The room was disgusting. Not clean. No bath towels.

“The hotel was understaffed. I could not get anyone to bring me a bath towel, so I had to dry off with a hand towel. The room was dirty, and I somehow ended up with a bug bite from my room.”

• The front desk staff was helpful.
• The facility appeared somewhat run down.

“The room was good. Had to unplug light and coffee maker in order to access an outlet for the computer. (The brochure states they are business traveler friendly.) A simple breakfast was provided. Easy access from the airport.”

• The pool/spa had a yellow ring around it, water was murky.

“Will not return to this hotel. Lobby smelled like smoke. Assistant to the receptionist spoke only Spanish, hard to understand. They had stated I booked 2 rooms and I only booked 1. Very big hassle to straighten out.”

• They had a breakfast that was healthy.
• The pillows were very uncomfortable.

“We have stayed at this hotel several times and I feel they are not at a quality that they were before. My husband's pillow was comfortable but mind was like a square block. They could not give me a suitable replacement the second night and I slept without one. The third night they gave me one that was mediocre. I suggested to the desk clerk that he tell the motel chain it is time for new pillows. I ended up going to the Chiropractor because of a stiff neck from those pillows.”

• It was 80 degrees in our room.

“This was a nice hotel. I felt it to be adequately clean, a few things I would have wanted a little cleaner. When we arrived someone had left the heater on and it was 80 degrees in there. We left the window open all night and it was -5 below and still didn't cool it down enough. The lady at the counter was very nice and helpful. It was only her fourth day there. I would consider this a nice place to stay if it was short term.”

• The hotel had a great king size bed, good pool and clean hot tub area. The breakfast was just right and is in an excellent location next to airport.
• I was given a smoking room and was not able to switch. Next to the airport you could hear planes land in the early AM.

“This hotel was very clean with great king size beds. It had a ok pool and clean hot tub area for families. The proximity of it being right next to the airport, you were woken up by early AM flights coming in right over the hotel. It was in a nice location to get around Des Moines.”

• The homey Easter touches on each table in the breakfast room.
• There was some noise from the airport.

“They seem to have thought of everything, albeit modest, from the microwave and small refrigerator, to shampoo and in room coffee. The staff was exceptionally friendly to everyone.”

“My room was large, it had a small refrigerator which was nice, although not in the best shape. It was good to have wireless capability. However, there were many spots on the sofa. So, I never sat on it. There was a long black hair on my toilet seat both days. The micro-wave was filthy. Even though it was cold outside I would have had to turn on the air-conditioner to get my room truly comfortable. For some reason it was hot and I didn't even have the wall unit on. I turned on just the fan to cool it down a little. My shower was only Luke-warm the first day and moderately warm the second day. All in all not my best hotel stay ever.”

• The indoor pool and hot tub are nice.
• Other guests allowed their children to make lots of noise at all hours.

“Good hotel near the airport, breakfast at 6 a.m. Near the zoo and outskirts of town. Easily accessible without going through the mixing bowl of the interstate in town. If coming from the east, take Highway 65 S and then take Army Post Road to Fleur. Traffic is not bad out. Lots of gas stations and restaurants near.”

• Location was easy to find.
• Lower level room facing wooded area, not very safe for a single female traveling alone.

“I was pleased to have found the hotel so quickly. When I checked in the front desk clerk was outside smoking, so I interrupted his smoke break. He was very pleasant once I checked in. Room was scary, faced a dark, wooded area. Did not want to leave at night once I was checked in. If attacked, no one would have heard a cry for help! ”

• Fruit rotting. Floors dirty. Kids screaming down halls at night.

“I've stayed in the other hotels available in DSM at the airport. Baymont is perfect, clean and friendly. Hampton, also good. This is cheesy. Fruit basket at front had oranges that were rotten, and not crisp apples. Cheerios in containers never put away at night. Toaster waffles stale. Front hall dark and carpeting dirty. Not a wonderful experience. ”

• Good location, accessible and comfortable.
• Inside of shower had black spots, mildew. Around baseboard area closest to the wall, dust not so clean.

“Bedding and lining clean, sleeping very comfortable. I know it is very cumbersome to keep carpet clean with all of the traffic from travelers. Most travelers do not take care to be careful with tracking in and out because it is not their homes.”

• It was cleaner than the other Comfort Inns and hotels owned by this corporation.
• No employee at the front desk answered unless I used a telephone about 20 feet away to summons an employee.
