“Very, very unclean, shower didn't even work, mold on tile next to tub faucets, needed dusting badly in corners didn't even take socks off while walking on floor in room, there were missing knobs on heating unit didn't know what was hot or cold.”

“Had kitchenettes which would be great for Extended Stay ... which is what this motel is designed for. We only wanted a place to sleep for about 6 hours before catching a flight so it was fine.”

“My door wouldn't shut and lock when I left. I had to slam the door shut. That woke up other guests and they weren't too pleased. I notified the front desk that I had a reading light burned out, the tub would not drain and my door would not lock from the outside. They informed me that their maintenance girl was out with a bad back. When I left I shared with the young lady how the room wasn't as clean as it could have been. I explained details and she said she would use my room as and example to the housekeepers.”

• The person at the front desk was very nice. It was in a nice location.
• The room wasn't very clean. Maybe because they aren't used to cleaning it very well. It's a long-term suite stay.

“It's a good place to stay. I was simply disappointed that the room wasn't that clean. The bathroom had hair, urine drips, and just looked like it had recently been used. If I was at a friends house, and it looked like that, ok. It was decent and I like my friends. But I was paying for it to look fresh and new. The floor looked like it hadn't been vacuumed and the sheets were questionable. It didn't fall into the same category of niceness as the hotels you give as examples of 2 stars. Really, they just need to do way- better on the cleaning and they'll do good.”

• Full kitchen in room saves money and allows healthy eating options.
• Rooms sometimes seem a little outdated and not in top condition.

“The location of this hotel is FANTASTIC if you want to be close to West Des Moines businesses and shopping! The kitchen in each room is a GREAT benefit as it saves money and allows a travelers to eat more healthy food options. I really appreciate that. The fitness room is very handy. The hotel has areas that look a bit outdated, and sometimes the rooms are not as clean as they could be, but the staff has always been quick to fix any problem.”

• The coach in my room was not clean. It had not been vacuumed.

“Everything was great except for the coach. The coach was full of hair and it had some food around the edges. I didn't have time to tell the staff because I was on a tight schedule. Normally, I would have called down and had them come up to vacuum it down. I could not sit on the coach because I didn't want to get hairy.”

• Full kitchen is very economical and allows for healthy eating.
• Hotel seems a bit dingy, especially in the hallways and public areas.

“Convenient location and full kitchen make this a great choice for business travelers. The bathroom layout isn't as good as other places, but it isn't bad, either. TV choices are somewhat limited. Fitness room and laundry are nice options, as is the pool in the warmer months. Staff is very helpful overall, and I am warmly greeted whenever I stay.”

“I had a great experience. Check in was easy and the staff was friendly. The room was big and very clean and obviously a newer hotel. The full kitchen was great for a two day stay. It is located in a quiet area very close to great shopping and restaurants.”

• Having a kitchen in the room was wonderful-I was able to prepare my own meals.
• The check in location is a bit odd- a simple office desk near the front door.

“Nice no frills motel with very suitable rooms, comfortable bedding and great location in West Des Moines. My only complaint is the noise of the room heater but I complain about those at most motels. Someone has got to invent a room heater that operates quietly.”

“The hotel was extremely dirty. The staff was friendly, but not helpful. They stood outside the front door of the hotel smoking, so when you first arrive and walk through the front door, you are walking through billows of cigarette smoke. The hallway stunk. They also changed my room three times: one room, the toilet had dried feces in it, another room, stunk really bad and all the rooms we tried were all dirty, and instead of cleaning a room, the last room they had available, I had to stay in because it was the least dirty (but dirty). I slept in my clothes all night, as I had nowhere else to go and they did not have any rooms available, nor cleaned a room. The room stunk; the kitchen area had hair in the refrigerator and freezer, and dried coffee stains. The microwave was not clean. The bathroom had visible mildew all on the shower curtain. A very horrible hotel and very horrible stay. I would not recommend this hotel to anyone.”

• The room was huge and very clean. The staff was also very friendly.
• No DVD players in the room.

“The hotel room was huge and the front desk staff was very friendly and helpful. That was probably the biggest hotel room I've ever stayed in. It would be a great place for a get together.”

• The friendly and courteous staff. The accommodations were clean and comfortable, especially the beds. We felt safe.
• The only irritation was that on our return trip was that there were no batteries in the remote and it took a trip to the front desk and a couple hours.

“Clean, comfortable, and safe environment with adequate parking. We found it to be well-situated for our needs between Halifax (downtown) and the airport.”

• No breakfast served. But that is the nature of this hotel.

“It was fine for what we wanted it. We got there at 10:30pm and left at 6:30am. It had a full kitchen which we did not use. Bed was small and furnishings were adequate but not particularly nice.”

“This is definitely a budget hotel, perfect for the long term traveler. Outdoor pool is nice, but small. The front desk clerk was very helpful and tried her best to take care of problems. Dogs in the rooms is a problem, maid staff that can't seem to clean dog hair, another.”

• We were given a handicapped room so it was extremely roomy and comfortable.
• The doorways are very hard to get luggage through on a cart.

“The location (on a hill and with plenty of restaurants nearby) was easy to find and it was fairly attractive. We liked the room much better than the Studio Plus in Wichita, but it was a handicapped room so it was much roomier and comfortable. My son sustained a large bump on the head from trying to help me move the luggage cart through the double doors that did not have automatic openers and were way too narrow.”

• The room was huge with a full kitchen!
• I requested non-smoking, but could smell smoke on the entire 3rd floor.

“Everything was great except the smell of smoke from other rooms on the 3rd floor. I stayed there again two nights later and was given a room on the first floor which was non-smoking!”

• Had to pay an extra for bed, 57% of room cost. Usually standard in most motels.

“The motel closes at 11-7 and we just barely made it because we were in process of moving my daughter out of her apartment. There was no shampoo, conditioner, lotion, or hair dryer, which we had expected so had not packed. There was a coffee stir stick on the end table in the living area.”

• The location was convenient with access to amenities.
• Refrigerator and heating/cooling unit were uncommonly loud.

“The location was convenient with access to amenities and restaurants. The staff was personable and the building is reasonably new and relatively attractive albeit on the economy side down to the cool florescent light and noisy appliances. The bed was fine and overall my experience was inline with my expectations for what I paid online.”

“At 11:30 pm we were locked out of our room for over 20 minutes as our key would not let us in. The front desk was closed and there was no way to get into our room. Finally we saw a night watch guy who let us in with out checking our id or apologizing. Disappointed with that.”

• Key arrangement was helpful and easy to use.
• I am a non-smoker who was placed in a smoking room that literally stank. I never saw a staff member during my stay. The wake-up call didn't function.

“A terrible experience. I would rather sleep in my car than in a smoking room. I would support legislation to ban smoking in motels and hotels! ”
