“Very nice, rooms were very clean and spacious, and the price was affordable.” Aug 16, 2009 by

“Historic hotel in great location, staff was friendly and met all of our needs.” Jun 18, 2009 by
Steve from Topeka,KS
“I've stayed at the Westin at crown center just about a mile from this hotel. No way this hotel would compare to the Westin.” May 29, 2009 by
adrian from Indianola,IA
“old hotel, very clean. loved the view from the room.” Apr 22, 2009 by
Ray from Sedalia,MO
“A great hotel within walking distance of the Power & Light District! Comfortable accommodations and a nice restaurant on the premises!” Apr 1, 2009 by
Shannon from Tulsa,OK
“The valet parking is not my choice, but it worked out OK for us. The front desk was extremely busy but the girls never showed signs of frustration. The room was decent size for the age of the hotel and clean. I enjoyed the decor in the lobbies and the dining room. The only meal we would have enjoyed there would be breakfast and we went down to eat but first asked how much the buffet was $17 for breakfast is a little steep. We left to eat somewhere else. Check out was quick and easy. Overall good experience.” Mar 12, 2009 by
Bob from Prairie City,IA
“This hotel is a classic, very comfortable rooms, excellent staff. I spent a very romantic weekend and it absolutely met all my expectations. The hotel does show its age, especially in the hallways and on the carpet in the rooms but it just adds to the charm of this hotel, if you are used to chain style 4 star hotel this is probably not the place for you. I really enjoyed the comfortable bed and the staff was excellent, they were helpful with directions and dinner options. I was a little disappointed that there was no swimming pool and the restaurant was not nearly as good as Feb 18, 2009 by
Angela Thomas from Grandview,MO
“I was very dissatisfied. The room was very small, no comfort, the room was dusty from the tables to the TV, dust everywhere. Coffee pot never cleaned from previous guest, stains in the carpet, hair in the tub. It was very disgusting. Would not recommend this hotel to anyone.” Dec 17, 2008 by
Elizabeth from Hermann,MO
“For a romantic getaway, or if a person really wants to be pampered, Hotel Phillips is the place to stay. I would go again in a heartbeat. Very pleased. Only disadvantage is the downtown KC parking.” Oct 15, 2008 by
Melissa
“The room was very nice except for this banging sound outside our window all night. The only way we were able to sleep was that the AC was louder and drowned out the noise. The parking was horrible. When we left, we called ahead but still had to wait over 30 minutes for them to bring our car.” Oct 15, 2008 by
Randy
“Nice hotel. Expensive and inconvenient parking. Staff was excellent, room was nice. Hotel lobby was beautiful. Hotel is very busy on weekends as a hotspot for weddings.” Sep 17, 2008 by
Marie
“Was not very impressed. It is very old building. Their was construction going on outside so the sidewalks were all torn apart and very scary looking!

“Although clean, rooms are small and linens ill-fitting and worn.” Sep 10, 2008 by
Carol B. from Ofallon, MO
“Hotel personnel were friendly and helpful. The room was very large and nicely decorated (despite a few odd touches that just didn't work in my opinion - like a round framed picture over the bed that looked like a port hole on a cruise ship and a sofa that faced nothing but a blank wall). It was, all in all, a comfortable room. A cozy robe hung waiting for me in the closet and a large deep tub beckoned. The bed was a little too soft, but comfortable nonetheless. My only real complaint was that the thermostat did not work - it was unseasonably chilly this weekend and when I tried to turn on the heat, it wouldn't kick on. The hotel was a little difficult to locate and there was a lot of construction going on, necessitating entrance to the hotel through the bar area. This could not be helped, of course, and the normal hotel entrance looked very classy and elegant. The valets were all extremely pleasant and helpful. It was a pleasant experience although I think four stars is a stretch. I would definitely stay there again.” Sep 10, 2008 by
Robert from Omaha, NE
“Great stay in a very nice hotel. Location was perfect.” Sep 9, 2008 by
Joshua from Papillion, NE
“Hotel is old, but very clean and friendly. Location may be prime for business traveler, but was not good for a weekend leisure trip. We had to drive to all events, activities, and entertainment.” Sep 9, 2008 by
Nancy from Jefferson City, MO
“I would describe Hotel Phillip as adequate, but not particularly fantastic. It is in a good location for anyone having business in the downtown area. However, there is a considerable amount of construction going on in the area. The room was a little cold and we could not get our heater to work. Several small problems in the room added up to only a moderate comfort level. (cold room, one light didn't work, small trash items on bathroom floor, missing bottle of water, etc).” Sep 6, 2008 by
Ray from Sedalia, MO
“It's been a while since I got to stay at the hotel Phillips. I was not disappointed! The hotel was within walking distance to the Power & Light District and had a nice meal at 12th & Baltimore! Had a nice/comfortable room which made our Labor Day weekend a memorable one!” Sep 5, 2008 by
Fred from Wilson, KS
“We were given the smallest room in the house and access as well as parking was a hassle.” Sep 4, 2008 by
Debby from Bartlesville, OK
“Excellent check-in, beautiful room, great service.” Sep 4, 2008 by
Kel from Minneapolis, MN
“The attempt to garner a historic stay is somewhat achieved. Due to construction, the hotel was very dusty and dirty and there was little to no instruction on how to get to the front desk. Poorly planned. Room was small and there was no full length mirror or another mirror besides in the bathroom which is inconvenient when there is more than one person in the room. In-room service dining was not very good and the service was inadequate. That's about all it was worth. Best thing about the hotel is its location in downtown Kansas City. Short walk to Power and Light District and other attractions nearby.” Sep 4, 2008 by
David from Columbia, MO
“The Hotel Phillips is an excellent boutique hotel in the heart of Kansas City. The rooms are a nice size and the staff makes a point to be accommodating and helpful. It is one of the few hotels in which my wife and I make a point to stay. The Chophouse restaurant is excellent. The food is not only reasonably priced but also incredibly delicious with excellent sized portions.” Sep 4, 2008 by
Holly from Fayetteville, AR
“I would stay at Hotel Phillips again. It was convenient to the Plaza and Union Station (those were the two areas we visited), and it was within walking distance to other downtown attractions and restaurants.” Sep 4, 2008 by
Tony
“If I ever visit KC again, I'll stay at this hotel. The architectural design of the building is very beautiful complimented by the interior decor. Add to the experience friendly staff, very comfortable bedding and a great restaurant. The only room for improvement was perhaps a need to upgrade the TV to a HD flat screen. I enjoyed my stay.” Sep 3, 2008 by
Robin from Lincoln, NE
“Beautiful older building being refurbished.” Sep 3, 2008 by
Warren from St. Louis, MO
“Great location. Nice interiors. Staff tried to compensate for inconvenience, but could not.” Sep 3, 2008 by
Josh
“The street in front was under construction, but they did a great job of making everything convenient.” Sep 2, 2008 by
Shari from Odessa, MO
“I would probably not stay there again. The hotel reception at check in was unfriendly and when trying to sleep we could hear the room above partying from 2 am till we finally called at 4:00 am and complained. But it still continue. It's good if you need to stay by the Power and Light District. But for a romantic getaway not!” Aug 23, 2008 by
Lamona from Oklahoma City, OK
“Secretly nestled among the traditional name brand hotels, the Phillips provides a quiet retreat from the hustle and bustle. Yet, it is only a few feet away from the convention scene.” Aug 22, 2008 by
Robin from Firth, NE
“Hotel Phillips is a very nice hotel. I don't believe it has earned its 4 star rating however. The bedspread was stained and dirty, there were stains on the carpet, the bed was very poor quality. It did have a bathroom scale and a robe etc.” Aug 14, 2008 by
Michael from Westwood, MA
“The lobby is beautiful, the rooms not so much. Would not recommend to anyone unless a little more attention is applied to the quality of the rooms.” Aug 14, 2008 by
Lori from Hutchinson, KS
“The sink was backed up when we checked in and we had some problems sleeping with the noise outside the hotel, but other than that, our stay was very nice.” Aug 10, 2008 by
Melinda from Haysville, KS
“Hotel would be very nice for a romantic outing. Valet personnel were very good and professional, they went out of their way to help us when we had car trouble, by obtaining a vehicle and battery cables to get us a jump start. Service by front desk staff was very personable and spoke with respect.” Aug 5, 2008 by
Stuart from Anaheim, CA
“The Hotel Phillips is a true gem in downtown Kansas City. My wife and I were treated like royalty.” Aug 3, 2008 by
Dale from Los Angeles, CA
“The Phillips is a magnificently restored old hotel in the heart of Kansas City. The staff is young, friendly and very helpful. Our room was large, well laid out and very clean. All the amenities were first class. I was totally satisfied with my stay at the Phillips. Heads up about the 15 dollar cost for parking. That's life in the big city.” 1 of 1 people found this review helpful.Aug 2, 2008 by
Brad from Wichita, KS
“This is a very old restored historic hotel. I like for a room to be well insulated as I like privacy and to get a good night's sleep. The space under the bottom of the door was enough to allow too much noise in my room though I was at the end of the hall. The entire staff was very friendly and helpful in all areas. The hotel is very convenient as it's downtown close to the new Power and Light Entertainment District which is a great area.” 1 of 1 people found this review helpful.Jul 29, 2008 by

“This is the second time I've stayed here and it's a nice hotel. We had a party of 4 people and needed 2 beds and the hotel charged us a $25 upgrade charge to get a room with 2 beds. After $25 upgrade charge they still didn't give us a true 2nd bed, just a pull out couch with a stained mattress and one blanket and no pillows. When we called down, they insisted these items were in the closet, but they were not. They finally provided them after we insisted several times. Both times the valet service was very slow. One wait was 15+ minutes when we were the only people waiting and another was 35+ minutes at check out time. The customer service was not anything special; it was border line rude at times. No cold water in the bathroom sink, both facets were hot water. There are many nice hotels in the downtown KC area and I would not recommend this hotel to anyone.” Jul 27, 2008 by
Priscilla A. from Romulus, MI
“This hotel should have received a 2-star rating. The walls and ceiling looked patched, carpet needs replacing, also elevators very small, can hold only about 4-5 people at a time with no luggage elevator, has no air condition.” Jul 25, 2008 by
Michael from Wichita, KS
“Hotel Phillips is a nice, historic hotel located in Downtown Kansas City, MO. The property seems very well maintained. The rooms are small compared to newer hotels, but what you would expect for a hotel built so long ago. The bathroom was very small. Parking is expensive at the nearby parking garage, use the valet service for the same price and come and go as often as you like. The hotel is very clean, comfortable, and the staff was friendly and extremely helpful.” Jul 23, 2008 by
Tracey from Topeka, KS
“Always love this K.C. hotel for elegance, cleanliness, staff, location and food!” Jul 22, 2008 by
Ethan from Tulsa, OK
“I loved this hotel. Everything about it was great. Walking distance to just about everything in downtown Kansas City.” Jul 21, 2008 by
Patti from Rosenberg, TX
“I found the staff very friendly, attentive and helpful. The room was very clean and comfortable and the location was perfect.” Jul 17, 2008 by
Brian from Saint Louis, MO
“The Hotel Phillips is a great hotel. However, my room was not much larger than a closet, no matter though, all we did was sleep there, and we were there for just one night.” Jul 16, 2008 by
Dawn from Ames, IA
“This hotel is a great place to go check out on a walking tour. See the lobby and look at the chop house. Don't stay there. The rooms feel like you are staying at your grandma's house. The bathroom didn't have a vent so when you shower all the steam is trapped in your room. It never cools off. We ran the air conditioning the entire time! Everything is damp including the bed. I fell in the bath tub because it was so slippery! I'm young by the way. The woman at the front desk was rude and didn't care when I told her. She didn't bring a bath mat when I asked. That being said the rest of the service was four star. Our TV was old and had a poor picture. There are some things to see and do around the neighborhood but mostly you have to leave to really do anything. There is a metro bus down the street to take you to crown center and The Plaza if you don't want to drive or walk 17 blocks to crown center. Overall very disappointed in the stay. Let's face it even if the staff and the public areas are nice. I won't stay there again nor would a recommend staying there.” Jul 11, 2008 by
Joel from Salinas, CA
“The Lobby, service and business center are nice. The rooms are small, and extremely outdated. Particle board used where nicer hotels would use marble or hard wood. It is just an old feeling room with all old furnishings and fixtures. The lobby appearance and staff are there, but the rooms have a long way to go to achieve this.” Jul 10, 2008 by
Joni from Wichita, KS
“I mentioned that I was excited to return to the hotel since it was a celebration of sorts now that my husband was through with radiation and chemo and surgeries. What a wonderful thing to do. I will always remember her generosity.” Jul 9, 2008 by
Daniel from Kansas City, MO
“This hotel is no where near a 4 star hotel. The staff was friendly, but the hotel is in bad shape. The rooms were dirty and very small. A medium to large size person could not get into the bath room. You can hear noise from your floor, floor above and below you. The restaurant was very poor and overpriced. They do not have parking and safety around the area is very poor. This was to be a romantic night out, but the hotel did not allow it to be very romantic.” Jul 4, 2008 by
Cindy from Paxico, KS
“The staff was very friendly and helpful. It was a short walk to the Power & Light District. The hotel has a lot of charm and style.” Jul 2, 2008 by
Steve from Tulsa, OK
“Very clean and staff was very nice. But bed was a little small and no pool area for a vacation experience. Location is great and next to new Light and Power district with a safe walk only 2 blocks away.” Jul 2, 2008 by
Rhonda from Centralia, MO
“I love your hotel. We've stayed twice while in KC. Since there's no pool, we probably won't choose it when we travel with the kiddos. We most definitely will when we come alone!”
