  • Location.
  • The only negative were drain in tub was clogged and carpet in room was badly stained and looked filthy.

“This is a nice hotel! Location ideal for many nearby attractions. Hotel generally exceeded my expectations. The only parking available is valet parking, which I feel was too expensive, especially since I was a guest of the hotel.”

  • Clean (no bed bugs). Most comfortable bed I've slept in in a while. Beautiful bathroom. Lovely decor in the room and lobby/bar. Modern.
  • The ATM was down the first time I checked, and the next morning someone was stuck in the elevator and two firetrucks showed up. Just FYI.

“Very beautiful and comfortable. Love the spacious lobby and the giant circle mirrow there. Very comfortable beds. Clean/beautiful room/bathroom. Had more than enough towels for us during our one night stay. Nice TV. Had a digital clock/mp3 player I think, but I didn't use it this time.”

“I was very late checking in. All the front desk clerks new who I was before arriving and kept each other informed. I was very impressed by the hotel quality and comfort. I hope next time Ii am in Houston I can get a similar rate in this hotel. It was defenitely a steal!”

  • Staff is unfriendly, arrogant and unhelpful.

“We used to stay here every time we went to Houston but never again. The staff range from indifferent to hostile. For example, our television was not working in the bedroom, we reported it to the front desk. The clerk typed a few letters on his computer and advised that it showed nothing was wrong and then stared at us, as if that was the end of it. Needless to say the next day when we finally got a technician to come to the room he was surprised to find it was not working. He left to check on it and never returned.”

  • Overall - excellent hotel experience.
  • The heat did not work in our room and it got cold-they sent someone to fix it but it never worked.

“Everything was great except the heat in our room did not work - we didn't really need the heat except the last day and night so didn't bother asking to move rooms.”

  • I loved all the extra attention to detail such as the wam cookie upon check in and spacious room with lots of great amenities.
  • Valet service was not totally on the same page.

“Our stay at the Double Tree Downtown Houston was phenomenal! The food was excellent and attention to detail and customer service was beyond our expectations! The room was very spacious and clean.”

  • Housekeeping was great very clean attractive place.
  • The food. I ate supper down stairs and it was over cooked, I didn't comment it was late. I ordered in and I got a bitter salad the lettuce was all.

“I liked this place except for the food. Though the food lacked this stay it was affordable. The corn chowder was great as was the breakfast buffet. The room service was small in food portions and the food was overcooked at the restaurant. The salad I got in my room was beautiful to look at but it was bitter. I have had bitter cucumbers before but not bitter lettuce ad this lettuce was bitter. Sorry to concentrate on the food so much but in most places the food is one of the only things you like though it costs a fortune, in this case that was just the opposite. It is the only thing I can complain about. I would definitely stay here again!”

“Our room was not very clean. Most importantly, we were to have a non-smoking room and even though our room was labeled as non-smoking, it was obvious that wasn't the case. The whole room, including linens, reeked of smoke. The in-room dining was fine and affordable. The staff was friendly and helpful. Will probably not stay in this hotel again, nor refer to friends and family.”

  • Free shuttle was a great amenity and beds were wonderful.
  • Service for shuttle however was lacking and getting quick responses from staff was always a chore.

“The hotel itself leaves nothing to complain about. There is construction on a parking garage across the street, but inside is all luxury and comfort. The room was immaculate, well appointed (the thermostat was a bit testy). We took the shuttle down to the Aquarium (5 blocks away) and kept being told different times. When we called for a return service in the evening, we waited 15 minutes, called again, were not able to get any approximate time of arrival, so we walked back. We were curious about buying a tin of their cookies (you get a coupon with your arrival cookie) and the front desk attendant had no clue - said they only had individual cookies at the desk and you had to go to the restaurant for a whole tin. Oh well. While the rooms and towels and everything were all great and above expectations, the service seemed lacking in focus, and the doors let all noise from the hallways in.”

  • No wet area in the fitness center.

“I was very satisfied with my stay at this hotel. The staff was very friendly from the valet, to front desk and bartender. The decor was very updated with a retro feel. They have cookies at night which I partook in daily. On the downside, if you don't know Houston well, it may be difficult to access. And there is no self parking so you have to use valet. The positives for my stay on both those issues were, the valet were very prompt in retrieving cars, and getting into and out of the hotel using W. Dallas street was very convenient for me. I would stay here again without question.”

  • The parking charge was 23.00 during the week and 12.00 on the weekend we were there thur and Fri. we did not anticipate 23.00 for parking.

  • The Hyatt staff was excellent. We was very pleased with the Hyatt. The Doubletree staff could learn some lessons from Hyatt staff in courtesy.
  • The Doubletree staff compared to the Hyatt was below standard.

  • Feather beds and pillows.
  • No pool which is a must for young children!

“While this hotel was exceptionally nice. It had no pool which we definitely wanted and it has mandatory valet parking that is $12 a day on the weekend and $25 a day during the week. Spent more on parking, that we were not told anything about and really would have expected a pool for the quality of hotel it was. That made the stay disappointing.”

“The restaurant did not have that great of selection for food and the prices were way too expensive for what you were given. Again, the parking was terrible. We did not know that we were going to have to pay $25.00 a day to park there. If there was any other parking, the hotel certainly did not let us know that. It would have been nice to have had a small refrigerator and microwave in the room.”

  • It is mostly used by business people and does not really cater to families.

  • Price of valet parking - outrageous!

  • There is no pool of any sort.

“We are very disappointed that there is no pool of any sort on the premises, especially we were traveling with a nine year old and a five year old. Any if you like authentic Asia food, the hotel is about 20 minute drive to Chinatown. But is pretty close to the museums and the zoo and 15 minutes to the Galleria Mall. The Valet staff were very friendly and the cookies were delicious too. Overall we had a great time and Houston left us a wonderful impression and will definitely visit again.”

“The hotel itself is very nice. Rooms are clean and beds are comfortable. Of course we love the warm chocolate-chip cookies at check-in! We used the hotel shuttle to take us to the Toyota Center for a Rockets basketball game. When we called to arrange the return trip, we were told it would be about 15 minutes. 40 minutes later, we were still waiting. If they had just told us that we would have to wait that long, we would have taken a taxi back to the hotel.”

  • Liked the beds (although extremely small).
  • 75% of the staff was horrible. Room was so tiny.

“We had spent 3 previous nights at the Doubletree Guest Suites Houston. We decided to stay one more night. In comparison to the Galleria Guest Suites, this hotel was miserable. The staff was rude and seemed to ignore us because we had kids and were not there on business like most other guests. When we checked in with 4 members, we only got one cookie (whereas the Guest Suites Doubletree gave us one for each member of our party). We were sent on a hunt for our own luggage rack (although were later told that the original staff member we asked should have taken care of that for us - I guess when he realized we were going to bring up our own luggage and there was nothing in it for him, why should he help us?). The room was about 1/10 the size of our suite at Guest Suites. The double beds were WAY too small for two adults. On top of that, the whole room smelled like mold and mildew. The sheets and pillows did as well. I have very bad allergies and asthma, and spent a miserable last night of our vacation on those mildew sheets. With us staying at 2 Doubletree hotels within a day of each other, it was very easy to compare. The Doubletree Downtown gets a 1 out of 10 and the Doubletree Guest Suites gets a 10 out of 10.”

“The a/c was out in our room so the staff kindly moved us but the next room was not much better and it was late before we noticed that the temp was not going any lower than 78 or so. So, the nights sleep was horrible.”
