• Its so close to the 610 highway that it can be quite noisy.

“Excellent location. Nice, fancy, trendy expensive dinning in hotel restaurant. It is very close to the 610 highway (corner of &10 and Wertheimer) so you can hear the traffic all night long. Not much amenities at location, but nice and clean.”

• The hotels public spaces are very attractive.
• The only parking option available is valet at $19 per day plus tax and tip.

“This is a hotel trying to be a 4 star hotel and not quite getting there. Food in the restaurant was bad. My first room did not have a working heater. Only after enduring a dirty room and a non-functional heater was I able to be moved to a decent room.”

• Flat screen television, great interior very Euro-style.
• Room was dark, not much bright light, not easy for women to put make up on. Thin walls, you can hear your neighbors quite well. Road noise from freeway.

“The interior of this hotel was exceptional. (Contemporary Euro-style) Nice attached restaurant and bar. $19 a day parking. Rooms are not real quiet but maid service was great.”

• Convenient to the Galleria area.
• Close to major highway. Too much road noise.

“Convenient location to the Galleria. Very difficult to drive in and out of hotel during rush hour 5:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m. Hotel located next to major highway. Can hear lots of road noise in the room. If you are a lite sleeper don't choice this hotel. Too much road noise.”

“The staff from the valet to the hotel desk clerks were all courteous and helpful. The dining room staff likewise courteous and efficient. Food quality was great. Rooms spacious and well appointed.”

• Long bench seating along windows, exceptional shower/water pressure, great lighting throughout room.
• No self parking, only valet garage available, noise along highway.

“Hotel Derek is great! Rooms are very well appointed, There is a long, window seat the width of the room, where you can sit comfortably overlooking the city below. Nice bed, and pull down shade on large window allowing for total darkness.”

“Very poor experience at a hotel I had thought to be exceptional in quality and comfort. Probably one of the most uncomfortable beds I have ever slept in. Dealt with a leaking faucet in the bathroom for 2 days (5) night stay. Valet only and no safe way to walk anywhere (Galleria area). The pool only has about 2 hours of sunlight per day and the only area to receive sun is covered by wooden trusses - and
no hot tub! The area around the bed was dirty and unkept.”

“This hotel has one thing to stay for: the location. Aside from that it is not a 3-star hotel. It is obvious that it was a superficial remodel. The bathroom still had fixtures from the late 70s/early 80s. The small tub did not even drain properly. There was rust on the ceiling tiles and weird wires that went nowhere. The hotel is fine if you are only sleeping there. Also for allergy suffers: stay away. The hotel pumps this god-awful perfume in the lobby and hallways that made me cough and sneeze each time I was exposed to it. The AC cannot be set above 68 degrees and blows directly on to the bed. I was so sick the first few days until I just turned off the AC at night.”

• Bathroom leaked.

“The staff is very friendly and willing to accommodate the guests from the time you get to the hotel. Although parking is $20/night the valet always had our car ready as long as we made a quick call downstairs. We never had to wait for our car, and they were very friendly. The lobby is very beautiful and the staff that checked us in was also very nice. The only bad thing about the hotel room was that the bathroom ceiling leaked. I told the person at the front desk about the leak and when we returned 6 hours later it had already been taken care of.”

• I thought the hotel lobby was really exciting and had a nightclub vibe to it.
• The hotel bartenders were horrible. We went there 2 times and concluded that both times the bartenders were some of the worst ever.

“For the price of this hotel, I concluded that the service was about right. Hanging in the lobby, we saw a hip hop fashion show; and participants in the Heavy Metal music festival. Everyone was cordial and respectful, but it was definitely not a family atmosphere.”

• Location is good.
• Not 4 star - very noisy rooms, poor plumbing, lighting problems with sparking fixtures.

“The galleria area has many fine hotels. The lobby looks great but the rooms are in need of a rehab. Very poor window insulation makes for very noisy rooms at night. You hear lots of road noise. The sink and tub do not drain properly - in more than one room. Two different lighting fixtures in my room sparked when I attempted to turn them on.”

• We really enjoyed the look and feel of the hotel. The staff was very friendly.
• Depending on traffic, it's difficult to "get into" the drive.

“Overall we enjoyed our stay. The hotel and rooms were beautifully decorated and the price was very reasonable for the quality. Valet parking is the only choice, but my car was ready when requested and actually was a lot more convenient that self-parking would have been.”

• This hotel has excellent toiletries. Also, it seems relaxing and plush. Had I been on this trip with only my husband I would have loved it.
• This hotel is not family-friendly. Also, the pillow was rock-hard and the thermostat glowed brightly in the room.

“This hotel would be excellent for romantic couples or the business traveler. With two small children, however, it proved challenging. The plumbing beneath the sink is exposed, so my kids wanted to hang on it. I had to constantly watch them every moment they were awake, as they also wanted to play with the roman blinds. Also be aware that they charge for parking.”

• Crisp, clean and contemporary look and feel.
• My light was not working upon arrival and the bathroom door was missing a handle.

“The hotel was quick to fix little problems (like the main light not working and the bathroom door without a handle). The front desk was friendly and helpful. I was disappointed that my wake-up call was 15 minutes late starting my trip off in a hurry. The valet parking is mandatory. The room was clean and comfortable. I really enjoyed the free wireless internet in the room. The gym was small, but has everything you would need. The staff was present keeping everything clean and sanitary. The stay was just what I needed, relaxing. You cannot ask for a better location.”

• Poor maid service, didn't replenish well but front desk fixed.

• I liked the modernisms of the rooms. Very trendy.
• The bar at the hotel was out of my 2 top favorite beers (Miller Lite & Coors Light). Surprising a bar would be out of two very popular beers.
