“Almost worth the money, the other hotel I stayed was a lesser star rating, but it had a microwave, better view of ocean and better price. The restaurant and bathroom were better at Sheraton though.”

• Beach access. Beautiful pool and surroundings. Ocean view room balconies.
• Construction detours and noise at adjacent condo towers. No hot water in our bath shower.

“Beautiful complex and grounds. When they finish the condo tower construction, the hotel will be just about perfect. Rooms were cleaned daily by a helpful, friendly staff.”

“Poor customer experience. Very pricy for what you get. Rooms are old and not well ventilated, few amenities available. Hotel management did a very poor job managing the construction which impacted the guest in a negative way.”

• Staff, its dirty, construction, overcharges, overbooked us, and overcharged us.

“This was the worst experience I have ever had. No problem at check in. After check in, our bathroom smelled like sewer, called front desk. A lady came to spray with Lysol. Didn't work. Sink and shower then backed up, and called to have it checked. They unclogged all the drains (we did not clog), and it worked. Elder parents came to stay, and their room was given away. Management said sorry and offered another room. Management offered to put elder family at another location. We refused. Management stated they overbooked. Eventually gave parents a room, after much confrontation. Upon check out, several unauthorized charges on card. Still dealing with. When call hotel to fix it, constantly given run around, and left messages for everyone. No return calls. Will never stay here again. Unprofessional, dirty, just a bad vacation.”

• Staff tried to be accommodating despite circumstances.
• Under construction: expect many delays during March.

“The staff tried to be as accommodating as possible considering it was spring break but we had to wait about 45 min to check in and the hotel is still under construction, so we had to park in the garage and carry all our suitcases and stuff always to the hotel. Although the hotel did not charge us they do have extra fees during March that have to be paid in cash.”

• Comfortable room nice location.
• Construction surrounding our hotel.

“Overall, I was very happy with the hotel. Maid service was a little inconsistent, i.e., coffee, shampoo, soap refills. Also, the electricity went out our last night, so we requested a wake up call and did not receive one. That was bad. Extremely disappointed that the hot tub was out of order. Otherwise, hotel was fine.”

• Staff helped replace some Champaign glasses of ours that where taking by mistake.
• My room had nice view from the balcony but I couldn't fully enjoy it because of the a/c unit at ground level. I was on the 5th floor.

“The hotel was nice but a new tower was being built 50 yards from the entrance. The easement had patches and pot holes. The room nice but had a broken door on the TV armor and the towel rack was bent and very rusted. I was ok with the view from my balcony but I could even hear the waves on the beach due the a/c unit at ground level. If you stay here ask for a room facing the full view of the beach or facing the pool. But you might wait till they finish construction.”

• Clean hotel, friendly staff, fast internet and check out as late as 4 pm.
• Bumpy drive way due to being used to haul construction materials.

“Great hotel, best value for the money, I got a rate similar to a best western or a Holiday Inn since I went on a slow season. Service was great, everything was neat and clean, restaurant on first floor has awesome food and right on the beach. Every one complained about construction site but I didn't even notice them!”

• Hotel was located on the beach.
• Room was billed as duel water exposure - we looked at garbage cans and construction.

“For future travels, we will make sure we ask if the prospective hotel is under construction. Parking was extremely inconvenient. We were made to walk with heavy bags to the check in area. Nothing like sitting on your balcony in the morning looking at construction equipment and trash cans (if I wanted to see that, I would have stayed in one of my apartments under construction at home for free). Don't take my word for it, stay in room 711 and see for your self. Although your maintenance staff was prompt, it would be beneficial to your prospective guests to check the plumbing in your rooms periodically for any clogs or leaks before the room is rented.”

“Staff friendly and helpful. Breakfast buffet very good. Great pool and bar area. Convenient to beach. Be prepared for a lot of construction dust as hotel under remodel as well as 20 story condos under construction within stones throw! I wouldn't recommend stay there until it is complete.”

• The pool was nice and kept clean.
• The large condo complex being built very close to the front door of the Sheraton. Very loud!

“We have stayed at this hotel many times in the past. This trip was not as we expected. Our television was out one entire evening. This would have been acceptable except that when I went to the front desk they would not do anything to compensate for the night without TV -- including saying that they were sorry. I called the manager and got his voice mail - left two messages and he did not return my call. We have several children so it is important to have TV. There is also a huge building going up right next door that is very loud with construction late and very early.”

• The pool was amazing and the beach was feet away.
• Took a long time to check in.

“Even though the hotel was going through interior construction, the interior was nicely decorated and very clean. The beds were so comfortable it was hard getting out of bed. The pool was huge and had a swim up bar. After swimming a bit it was nice walking straight to the beach from the pool. The beach was literally in our backyard.”

• Noisy, rooms were old with mildew smell, locks on door not functional.

“The Sheraton south padre island beach resort in south padre island was undergoing construction during my memorial day weekend visit, a piece of information that would have made a large impact on my choice of hotels. Included in the construction was the parking lot - which was overflowing as a result of memorial day weekend, but it was also overflowing as a result of heavy rains. Hotel guests were asked to park in an unmonitored parking garage - in the rain to load/unload through a flooded lot. Not nice. Hotel and staff were unprepared. "Concierge" did not have maps (maps) and directed me to the tourist information center instead. Rooms were old and outdated - smelled moldy, hard to regulate temperature. View from balcony was of (wait for it.) Construction! Based on this experience, it is unlikely I will stay at the Sheraton in south padre again.”

• The front desk service was less than desirable. They did not have any suggestions for rainy day activities.

“Room was nice and spacious. It may have been nice to know that a new Sheraton hotel is under construction next door, and that parking was limited. They were also doing some renovations to the current hotel, however, disruption to activities at the hotel were minimal. I would stay again if price remained economical.”

• The swimming pool was great! We loved the swim up bar. Loved the access to the beach!
• The bar closed at 6pm. There was a ton of construction going on!

“I would recommend this hotel to anyone I know. Even though there was construction everywhere in the hotel, it was good. I thought the hotel could have gave a discount on their rooms considering when you sat on your balcony you had construction workers looking directly at you.”

“Our view was fantastic with views of the bay and the beach. Our room had a complete kitchen with dishes and utensils. I requested minimal maid service (towels and trash removal) and despite giving them a tip each day they did not even leave towels on the fourth day. The beach was very nice. The pool was very large and beautiful with plenty of chairs and had a swim-up bar which would have been very nice except for the pervasive smell of sewer gas when you were at the bar. I would recommend this place if you can get an iron-clad guarantee of a north side room in writing. Otherwise it might be wise to try someplace else.”

• Fabulous location and lots of easy parking.
• Beware of massive remodeling projects ongoing spring of 2007.

“We rated this hotel low due to loud, pervasive construction going on throughout the hotel. This created inconvenient closing of entry and exit routes from the hotel, making it difficult for people with disabilities to get around the hotel. There were very few amenities; hotel bar charges were very expensive and automatic gratuity was added despite poor service. Hotel did not want to allow us to use the luggage cart. Beachfront was littered with trash and construction debris, including nails.”

“This is an older hotel, but very well kept. The beach access is wonderful and the pool/hot tub are great. The view from the room was outstanding, we were on the 10th floor looking south along the beach. The hotel staff was very professional and extremely friendly. I'll give them a 10.”

“This hotel is very nice, staff was friendly, efficient We did not eat in the hotel, but the flyers looked like the seafood buffet would be something most seafood lovers would like. The pool was my favorite part, complete with a swim up bar. Family friendly with a little pool with animal slide for the kids. Will plan on going back, soon.”

“During slow time of week (Tuesday-Thursday), no services at all- ice and soda machines not even in service! Once weekend came, all of a sudden, it started to resemble a hotel, bellmen showed up, grill opened up, and the ice and soda machines were turned on. I pay for and expect these services for my entire stay!”

• Ernesto is your best employee. He was friendly, personable and helped us in every way possible. This man deserves a raise.
• It is very inconvenient that you require the security deposit in cash. We came as college spring breakers and were very strapped for cash.

“The hotel was very nice and the bell staff and security were amazing. Some policies need to be more money friendly, especially that the security deposit needs to be in cash. The pool area is beautiful and the hotel is in a good location. After all the initial problems our stay was very nice.”

• Great location, clean, friendly and prompt staff, fabulous pool!
• We hit repair season, hotel was ramping up for spring break. Some hammering and painting going on.

“This was a great place to stay, right on the beach, with a beautiful pool and breathtaking ocean views. The hotel staff was always very friendly, helpful, and prompt. We had the two bedroom condo, with three adults and two children. There was plenty of room for everyone. The pull-out sofa was broken, but they sent up a much more comfortable rollaway bed immediately. There were other signs of hard usage, but it was mostly cosmetic (dent in fridge, bent shower rod, rips in the draperies) all appliances and fixtures were in working order. The food in the hotel restaurant is a little pricey, but very good. We will be back!”

“This was our first time down to SPI, and we were truely excited. We drove all the way from Abilene, TX (which is approximately 11 hours). We just got in a bit early and we asked the hotel staff if there were any rooms available where we could go ahead and check-in. I advised them I was willing to pay to check in early as my husband and I were extremely exhausted, and just wanted a bed to lay in and take a nap before our vacation began. Needless to say, I waited out in the parking lot for 5 hours waiting for the availiblity of the room. I contiuously inqured about an available room, and I was advised that the housekeeping had not yet finished cleaning the available room. When my husband and I checked in, it was horrible. People just moved so slow. Also, when we got up to our room my key did not work, I tried to just go up to the front desk to get a new key, and I was told to wait in the check in line. How ridiculous is that? When all I needed was a different room key to get in. The staff was not so friendly. The bartender will rip you off. My husband went to get a shot of tequila, and it was on special for $2 a shot per the DJ. Well, when my husband got up there, the bartender swore that the tequila shot was $5. Then tried to haggle with my husband on getting more than $2 for the shot. My husband just left the offer, and came and told me about it. The rooms were in horrible condition. I assume this is from the Spring Breaker, but they require a $50 per person, or $200 per room during spring break. Why do they not get the broken items fixed or patch the wall where it obviously looked like someone was thrown into? Who knows. All I know is that this April when my husband and I travel down to SPI again, we will be staying else where. We are going to be on our vacation, I want to be treated as though I am on vacation. Sheraton was not worth price paid. I would have been better off sleeping in a tent or my car. ”

• Just about everything was a negative experience. Very expensive.

“This was one of the worst hotel experiences we've ever had. Beginning with our check-in...the non-smoking king room we requested was not honored and there were no other rooms available. The room wreaked of tobacco odor. The safe in the room did not work and when reported, nothing was done. At check-out, I was in line behind several guests--all of whom were reporting problems and dis-satisfaction with their rooms. I realize there are few good places on the Island to stay, but this has to be the biggest rip-off in terms of value. ”
