“Still new and fresh, so has eye and aesthetic appeal. Great location for going to the beach on foot. Nice views of the Gulf and bay from the room balcony if you are on third or fourth floor. Prices were a little high but it was probably due to the time of the year. Might be more reasonable in the off-season. Because of land situation, all parking is in front of hotel and when you get there late in the evening be prepared to walk a good distance to the lobby. Elevator waits are sometimes long since there are more riders than elevators, but stairs are an alternative if you get tired of waiting. Continental breakfast was skippable since mediocre at best.” Jan 13, 2009 by
John from Rossville,KS
“My seven day stay here was pleasant in every way. Public beach access, the convention center, wind surfing, kite flying were all nearby. This LaQuinta is the northern most hotel on the island but all the restaurants are within a short drive. They are replacing the slate roof and rebuilding the beach damaged by Hurricane Dolly. The gulf and bay could both be seen from my fourth floor room. My seven day stay here was everything that could be expected!” Oct 21, 2008 by

“Our room was clean, it had a beautiful view of the pool, patio, and ocean. We enjoyed the Happy Hour with the other adult hotel guests. The biggest thing we felt could be improved on was the breakfast. It had very plain breads, bagels, and donuts. The selection was poor.” May 28, 2008 by
Fernando from San Antonio, TX

“This motel is located right across from the Alamo in San Antonio. It is very convenient to get to the River walk and stores in the area.” Mar 29, 2008 by

“The atmosphere of this hotel during February is definitely for the older crowd. It was evident that they cater specifically to the 'Winter Texans'. The staff was very friendly and the hotel was nice for a winter getaway.” Mar 23, 2008 by

“Went over spring break with teenagers. Great security and just five minutes from restaurants and shopping. Will definitely return next year.” Feb 19, 2008 by

“I had a great night of rest and relaxation on Valentines Day with my spouse. There were no problems with anything in the hotel.” Jan 9, 2008 by
Joe from Austin, TX
“I went to South Padre in January, so my review may be different than most visitors. I enjoyed my stay at the LaQuinta overall, as I was looking for a nice quite beach location. The hotel is at the far end of the strip and away from most things, which for me, was perfect. Balcony view of the Gulf was nice, and it's right on the beach. The front desk staff was a bit gruff, and seemed like I was an inconvenience, didn't appreciate that. Room was clean, hotel was clean, and pool was nice. Overall, worth the price for me, at this time of year.” Dec 22, 2007 by
Frank from La Joya, TX
“We stayed of one night. We missed happy hour. The walk to the beach was minimal. The pool was on the way to the pool. That was nice!” Nov 15, 2007 by
Julie from San Antonio, TX
“Our first impression was good, the outside appearance was nice as was the lobby area. I was impressed with how large the dining area was for the continental breakfast and with the computer room. The pool and outside area was very nice. We love the beach and there were plenty of chairs and lounges to sit aside and enjoy.” Oct 8, 2007 by
Curtis from Brownsville, TX
“Great view, clean new rooms, nice area, good location if you want to get away from the noise. Wish they had shade covered parking or closer to the rooms. Good overall experience.” Sep 28, 2007 by
Scott from Buckholts, TX
“Other than the awkward parking situation, the hotel was pleasant and the location was worth the price because of the view of the beach from the room.” Aug 13, 2007 by
Roger from San Angelo, TX
“Great beach access, close to everything, great price.” Aug 12, 2007 by
Pete from Glen Rose, TX
“Good location, right on beach. Courteous staff. Musty smell. Small pool. Good complimentary breakfast. Happy hour was a nice end to day on beach before cleaning up and going to eat. Parking was horrible.” Aug 3, 2007 by
Cindy from Universal City, TX
“It was clean but our room had a ceiling fan that was falling out of ceiling and the cabinet which contained fridge and microwave had no knobs so it was impossible to get into. The couch in room was like sitting in a hole and the pull-out bed in couch was worse than sleeping on a bed of rocks! We've been to several hotels on the island and we will definitely never stay at this one again!” Jul 17, 2007 by
Kristen from Ardmore, OK
“Very good.” Jul 3, 2007 by
Autumn from Mcallen, TX
“We like to stay at this hotel with our four children because of the easy access to the beach from the pool area. It has a nice hot tub, nice pool for young children and a covered pavilion. Also has a great patio area that overlooks the beach. There are clean outdoor restrooms behind the snack bar which is a huge plus with young children. The rooms are adequately clean and comfortable with a small balcony, but no ocean view. Coffee maker, microwave and minifridge are provided. I've stayed in many hotels at SPI and while this is not the prettiest, it has the most conveniences if you are traveling with young children.” Jun 25, 2007 by
Tracy from Sugar Land, TX
“Free happy hour and snack service a bit snappy, left room at 5:45 to go down 3 floors. Elevator was not working, wouldn't close to operate. ( turned out to be a constant problem throughout our stay) When we finally decided to take the stairs and walk out to pool/snack area we were rudely told it is now 6:03, go away snack time is over.” Mar 28, 2007 by
Bruce from Sugar Land, TX
“Very pleasant, efficient staff. They gave us the royal treatment from the time we walked in. Large oversized room, free computer room, wonderful continental breakfast. Wonderful beach area, with snack bar. A great place to take your family.” Mar 21, 2007 by
Arnold from Rosenberg, TX
“I was very surprised to find out in order to stay at the hotel that I had already booked online, that I would need to pay an additional $20.00, also the room rate was less than what I was charged.” Mar 14, 2007 by
Mary A. from Pharr, TX
“The free continental breakfast is a plus with the variety of cereals, waffles, pastries, and bagels and fruit. The pool area is nice for the children. The downside is that it doesn't have room service and the beds aren't as comfortable as most.” Jun 13, 2005 by
Cyndi from San Angelo, TX
“This hotel is clean and had a bright atmosphere. It was right on the beach - not just beach "access" and had many ameneties found at more expensive beach hotels. Patio/pool area had plenty of chairs for guests and looked directly onto the beach. They had a food concession next to the beach and pool with a great pizza/drink deal for the kids. Also had an agent to book tours/activities. Our room was comfortable and spacious with a microwave and refrigerator. We had no problems with hot water, towels, cleaning, etc. Staff was generally friendly/courteous. Continental breakfast was nicely presented and well organized. Overall, one of our better travel experiences. I would definitely stay here again.” 5 of 5 people found this review helpful.Jun 12, 2005 by

“Absolutely an excellent hotel staff that will make any stay a vacation. Some initial problems.” 1 of 1 people found this review helpful.Jan 12, 2005 by

“The parking at this location was poorly designed. They have more rooms than spots. And there is no where for overflow cars to go. The rooms are nice, but smell like animals. ” Jan 6, 2005 by
Jack from San Marcos, TX
“This hotel is a gem! It is located on the ocean beachfront at the far end of the tourist zone and if you are lucky enough to get a room on the fourth floor, north side (away from town) you get a million dollar view of beach and Gulf of Mexico. There is a deluxe free breakfast--waffles, juices, fresh fruit, assorted breads, hard-boiled eggs, cappucino, cereals, etc. A pleasant surprise was the free daily happy hour (by the pool and ocean front) from 5-6:30 that included soft drinks, wine, beer and nachos. The staff is very helpful and friendly. The rooms are above-average size and very tastefully decorated. With the exception of the not-so-plush bath towels, I thought I was in a four-star hotel. ” 4 of 4 people found this review helpful.
