“This is not a 4 star hotel. I have stayed at all of the other hotel several times. The Omni is not in the same class. The furnitre is old, the beds are far below the beds in the Hilton, Hyatt International. Old style TVs vs. flat screens etc.”

• Noisy, felt crowded with very casually dressed customers. Slow and crowded elevators.

“I did not like having an atrium room. The hotel was crowded with very casually dressed customers. One elevator was out of service, and the elevators were slow and crowded. The halls and room were noisy. The parking charge was $18, and the garage was cramped. The lobby was small and uninviting. The big plus was an exceptionally friendly staff.”

• Room smelled like paint. Walls are thin. Charged 20.00 to print some documents in the business center.

“The hotel is nice. My room smelled like paint. I believe they had just refinished a cabinet. Thought about asking for a new room, but the other person I was traveling with, said his room had the same smell. The walls were very thin. I needed to print a 25 page document. 6 dollars to get 15 minutes online in the business center and then 0.49 a page to print.”

“The hotel was excellent. We were in and out one day, and the maid service came while we were in the room. We asked them to return in the evening when we would be out. They did not. Not a big deal, just a minor annoyance.”

• Large atrium lobby made it attractive to youngsters for exploration and was a safe place for them.
• No issues.

“Traveling with my three grandsons ages; 13, 11 and 9 was an experience for a grandfather alone with his guys. We all liked the hotel and the youngsters were free to roam and explore. They all thought the experience wonderful. They are real gentlemen and complimented staff and service people on their experience. Obviously, the youngsters were impressed!”

“The Omni was quite disappointing for a 4-star property. The front desk staff was polite but ignorant of several things about the property. The room was nice but small. We thought it would be nice to have a balcony, too. But the room overlooked the Austin 6th Street area, and from 10:30pm until 4:30am, the sounds of loud music, screaming pedestrians, fire and ambulance sirens, and screeching tires kept us awake. Rooms this noisy simply should not exist at a 4-star hotel. I will not be staying at this hotel again, and I will recommend to friends that they not stay here.”

• The staff was all very nice and professional.
• The pool was not open at 6:30am. Cleaning too long!

“Great hotel and very friendly staff. We were coming back in after an early morning bike ride and one staff member said; "Welcome back." Kind of nice and made we feel like we were wanted at the hotel.”

• Staff is always friendly - they are generous with up-grades to nicer suites with great views.

“The Austin Omni downtown is a beautiful hotel. The room service was delicious. The room was extremely comfortable. I love taking a bath in the Jacuzzi spa in our bathroom. The staff are very friendly and helpful.”

• Outstanding location, parking was easy and did not require a lot of walking. The public areas were beautiful and much nicer than expected.
• The bed could definitely have been more comfortable. The linens were great but the mattress left a lot to be desired. The hot water was inconsistent.

“The area of town and convenience to local attractions could not have been better. The view from my eighth floor room, overlooking the lobby, was very nice. I asked for this area as I had heard the rooms overlooking the street could be noisy. The room was lovely, especially the linens, but the mattress was not very comfortable. The staff was friendly but not at the level I have experienced at some other nicer hotels, especially the Westin line.”

• Great staff, overall good condition, flat screen TV - nice touch.
• Some fixtures were outdated and does not match renovations, could easily hear next room on both sides.

“Very pleasant. I've been in many hotels and overall pretty satisfied. Location is great. Not sure if I would rate it a 4 star but close. Stayed in the Omni in Corpus Christi and this one in Austin is much nicer, although our sheets smelled a little like they sat in the wash a little too long before the dryer. More soundproofing is in order, but again, friendly staff, and an overall pleasant stay.”

“Would recommend it to friends. Rooms very comfortable, bathrooms well equipped. Mind you, the shower was a bit of a challenge. Strange shower head. Minor quibble.”

• I enjoyed the room decor and the bed was exceptionally comfortable.
• The staff was less than attentive and offered only empty apologies, when issue were brought to their attention.

“The staff leaves a lot to be desired. I was locked out of my room on 3 separate occasions, requiring new key cards each time. I requested the room be serviced, turn downed and neither request was completed, on each of the two nights I stayed. Requested towels and had to make 3 calls before they were brought to the room. Pool was filthy, with trash and floating debris in the water, so it was unusable. Great location, but other than that, the hotel was a big disappointment.”

• Room was clean, apart from the holes in the sheets, and well-appointed.
• The sound of construction three doors down at 9:00 on Saturday morning.

“The hotel atrium is beautiful. The double bed room was gorgeous. The tub was scratched and at bed time, I found a hole in the top sheet of one of the beds. The rooftop pool was a selling point. Unfortunately, it was overcrowded with people and very dirty (and made from stainless steel?). The bartender at the pool was very kid-friendly. The pool scene is definitely for the 20 something crowd. The front desk asked if we needed to stay on the 8th floor for some reason and I said no.”

• The on-site Starbucks was not open when I checked. I guess they have weird hours or maybe they were on a coffee break.

“Omni hotel, self-parking fees are currently $18 per day. This hotel building was built with an on-site parking garage needed to do business in this area. In Texas hotel parking fees are not common, make sure you budget an extra $18 per day for this. Additionally, there are no vending machines in the hotel; many items soda, bottled water, snacks and candy are provided in room only. Cool? (Not really.) The price of a self-serve 12oz can of cola is $2 US. That's restaurant prices in Texas and you have to get your own self-serve ice (not an in room service) and pour it yourself. The good news, no waiting for refills, they are just an arms length away. Oh and another $2. Darn it; have to run for more ice. Hotel tip: $9.95 per day internet access. Hotel tip: Enter hotel at service entrance on Brazos St, go past the garbage dumpsters and loading dock. This will allow you to avoid the dirty, homeless, drugged-out beggars and the drunks. They are waiting for you near the valet parking and beautiful glass main entrance.”

“Great hotel but, beware of hidden extra charges: 1) Self parking of $18 per day (fuel prices are driving consumer choices) and since they have their own on-site parking, this costs them nothing extra. (added $36, I'm not so happy) 2) There are no vending machines in this hotel, soda/pop and snacks are available in room bar; a 12oz can of Coke is $2.00 (ouch!).”

“Hotel was nice and location is great, parking is expensive for Downtown @ $18.00 per day for self parking. Staff would not let a friend up to my room because it was after 11:00, even though they rang my room and I gave permission. I had to get dressed and go down to the lobby. I have never had this issue, even in the French Quarter in New Orleans.”

“Hotel is nice. But do not take your kids to the pool. It's very small and is basically a place where adults get drunk. The bathroom is downstairs. Why go downstairs when you can just go in the pool right?”

“An excellent hotel. The huge atrium lobby is shared with an office building. We were in a newly renovated room and it was clean and pretty. Conveniently located to 6th street. One of the three elevators was out of service, but it didn't matter on the weekend. The rooftop pool was windy and all sorts of trash had blown into it. The $18 parking garage had overflowing trash cans in the morning. The TV's 15 or so channels is really pathetic (all we watched was The Weather Channel) - most 1 star hotels have better TV.”

• Some of the concierges were not very helpful or knowledgeable.

“This is a great option for an upscale hotel. The staff was friendly and attentive. The room was very comfortable (especially comfortable beds), and very clean. Nice rooftop pool and hot tub. The parking was a bit expensive at $18/day and there were a couple concierges that were not very helpful. One suggested IHOP as a dining option. Great hotel and would definitely stay again!”

“This hotel was great! A few minor issues with the wrong room key, assignment but other than that - it was very inviting, clean, and comfortable. With an update to the exercise area this hotel would be just perfect!”

• The location was great and the facility is very nice.
• The bathtub did not drain properly. One valet was a bit rude.

“The overall service of the hotel was great. They had recently done a big renovation of the rooms and they had exceptional beds. The only problems I had were the bath tub not draining and a pushy valet. Everyone else was very nice. I would recommend this hotel.”
