  • It was beautifully decorated. Lovely furnishings and paintings. Very Texas.
  • No place to park and unload. Had to use valet which was $21 a shot.

“If you want a distinctive Texas experience, visit the Driscill. Beautiful lobby, restaurant, bar and rooms.”

Cleanliness:[10] • Staff:[9] • Location:[10]

  • Location was perfect and the atmosphere was classy and gave us a true Texas experience.
  • The valet parking was a little expensive, but it was worth it in a busy area.

“The Driskill was a beautiful hotel, full of character and history. On top of that, it was within walking distance of the state capitol and all of the 6th street bars and shops. The Driskill bar was a cozy place to relax, and our room was spacious and clean. It made our trip to Austin a memorable one.”

Cleanliness:[9] • Staff:[8] • Location:[10]

  • Beautiful hotel, great location.
  • They gave us the worst room they have, no view and the bathroom was too small. We also had to wait 20 minutes before they found our reservations.

“We enjoyed the hotel but have had better experiences.”

Cleanliness:[8] • Staff:[10] • Location:[9]

  • Great old time very active hotel.
  • Access to the room through mezzaneen for parties. Felt like stored furniture.

“Driskill for the price was a great experience but the squeaky iron bed didn't help the charm. Six street locations is the best attribute. Hotel personnel were extremely helpful and knowledgeable.”

Cleanliness:[10] • Staff:[5] • Location:[10]

  • The hotel is gorgeous.
  • The staff was a little snooty.

“The hotel is beautiful, and the room was small but adequate. The check in staff was a little snotty, but the check out staff was very pleasant and professional. The only problem was that both the dining room and valet (and there is only valet parking available) were very slow. I spent at least half an hour waiting for breakfast in the cafe and 45 minutes waiting for the valet to retrieve my car.”

  • Location, history, lobby bar, friendly staff.
  • They seemed short staffed in the evening, the bellboy accidentally took a pair of pants and it took them 20+ minutes to return them to my room.

“Great location and a beautiful hotel with lots of history. A classy way to enjoy Austin Texas.”

Cleanliness:[9] • Staff:[2] • Location:[9]

  • Location; lobby architecture & design.

“You cannot (or are told you cannot) get to a large majority of rooms (including mine) without going up 13 steps and then down the hall to an elevator. I was not shown the elevator even after I noted I would have to pull my bag up the steps. I pulled my bag on wheels up those steps, wrenching my shoulder, and the pull handle of the bag broke on the top step. (Yes, I told management; no, Ive not heard anything since the incident. When I inquired again, I was shown a lobby elevator.) Coffee was not downstairs in the lobby until nearly an hour after it was supposed to be (and there was none in the room), and the breakfast restaurant was 10 to 15 minutes late in opening.”

  • Historic and beautiful renovated a jewel among chains.
  • Parking fee of $21 a night!

“I'm not sure if they had a business center or the charges, but in terms of a beautiful historic hotel, great fun location, I loved it! The piano bar had out of town travelers gathered around and the atmosphere quickly lent it self to a friendly place. The piano player was witty and had us all at ease. Then you can walk out to 6th stay and have your fill of great live jazz/blue/rock bands to make the night different than usually available to business travelers.”

  • Decor was wonderful; service from household to bellboys was great!
  • This is a downtown hotel, and we did have to deal with panhandlers, but not outside our hotel!

“A visual and exciting place to be. Quite a lot of history just right in the hotel. Linens, robes, were top notch! We loved the decor, being horse owners; the Texas decor was right up our alley! I can't wait to go back next year! The hotel staff gave us recommendations on which tours to take and the food cannot be beat. The art is absolutely beautiful. Being from California, I really appreciated the Texas hospitality!”

Overall Rating: 10 User Rating Score: 10
Cleanliness:[10] • Staff:[9] • Location:[9]

  • The pleasant historic quality was genuine and yet the rooms and facilities had today's amenities.
  • There was a strange musty smell in the lobby.

“The Distill hotel has survived for over 140 years, thanks to the appreciation of Austins own citizens. That they would permit their zoning laws to allow a mega-parking complex across the street (and at eye level to the grand 2nd floor logia) is perplexing. The hotel retains a wonderfully formal appearance with the classic comfort of a gentleman's club. The room we stayed in had all the amenities we needed to have a comfortable stay - including great housekeeping, which was thorough as it was discrete. The gym facilities were compact but included everything.”

  • It has historic elegant features.
  • Hotel double booked rooms/we were sent somewhere else/ given wrong driving directions.

“My wife and I arrived at the hotel late. The front desk person told us that the room that had been reserved for us was put out of service. I told him that we had paid online and it was guaranteed. He said it didn't matter it was a first come first serve basis. He sent us to another hotel and gave us wrong driving directions. We had to go back to the hotel and get directions from the valet man. It took an extra hour and a half for us to get into our room. It was 2:30 in the morning when we finally got to bed. The front desk man at dispel was very unprofessional and rude.”

“This hotel is very nice and clean. The staff is friendly and the food was very good. The problem being there is no insulation and the rooms are very noisy. I was waked up at 6:30 a.m. hearing people in the next room doing things I didnt want to hear. I was exhausted when I left due to little sleep. I would not stay there again.”

Overall Rating: 7 User Rating Score: 7
Cleanliness:[10] • Staff:[8] • Location:[7]

  • Beautiful historic hotel well located in the heart of downtown Austin.
  • The hotel is not family friendly. The old rooms will not accommodate rollaway beds and do not cool well in the summer. No pool. Difficult parking.

“This hotel would be wonderful for a business traveler or a couple looking for a true Austin Texas getaway. It sits right on Sixth Street, known for its music and nightlife. Its lobby, bar and restaurant drip with Austin high society and Texas political history. However, leave the kids at home. The staff is clearly used to serving Texas' political elite and looks down their noses at children and flip-flop wearing parents. There is no pool and no realistic possibility of self-parking. When you check-in in the summer, arrive early, turn the air conditioner down low, close the drapes and check the air filter. If everything works perfectly, your room might get to 72 degrees by midnight.”
