• Walked out back entry directly onto the river walk with easy access to all attractions and great food.
• Concierge gave advice for restaurants that was mediocre at best. Walked past several better places to eat getting there.

“Location. Just 2 short blocks from history of the Alamo. A doorway from the beauty and serenity of the river walk. Next door to Lavallette, a beautiful old village from history. Just open your room door for the vast array of smells from many great eateries, and to watch boats lazily traversing the waterway with tourists. Great for a weekend away, final 4, family visits, or business travelers.”

• I like the fact that the hotel was central to everything that we had planned.
• I didn't like where we had to park. It was quite a distance away and to walk w/ luggage. Also, the parking was very expensive.

“The hotel was very nice. Staff was friendly. However, parking was 22.00 a night and it was quite a distance from the actual hotel. If you decided not to use that valet, you had quite a walk with your luggage. I had not anticipated a charge to access the internet, and the breakfast was entirely too expensive. It seemed that they charged you for everything! The convenience and location of the hotel is what made the overall impression worthwhile.”

• Lobby was amazing looking, staff was friendly.
• Parking was horrible.

“Staff was very friendly; parking was bad, 2 block walk, and 22.00 a day. We were not given an option to select a non-smoking room; therefore they put us in one even though my girlfriend is allergic to cigarette smoke. The management was very friendly and placed us in the only available non-smoking room- a handicapped one. Comfortable beds.”

“The rooms have a nice view whether you are on the river or city side. Rooms were very quiet and the beds were extremely comfortable. The location on the Riverwalk and near the Alamo was perfect; we could walk everywhere - that made it very relaxing. It was easy to get on the freeway from the hotel too! We would stay there again for the price again in a heartbeat!”

• Helpfulness of the staff.
• That they charged for everything, including local calls.

“I thought the location was great, very nice hotel. I did not like that for the price that you had to pay for every single thing. Had to pay for local calls and to use the business center. There was no coffee maker, instead a coffee cup maker which the coffee was not very good. Would have preferred a coffee pot instead. I would stay here again only if I had extra cash to burn, if not, I would go with something a little cheaper.”

“The hotel was noisy (from our room we could hear every noise in the next room and throughout the hall as well as outside noise such as traffic and construction). Pool area was not very nice and the water was not heated-very cold. There was nothing else for our children to enjoy at the hotel. The parking was horrible. It took my husband an hour to part the car across the street as there is no on-site parking. Parking is also expensive. It was nice to be so close to the Riverwalk, but we did not consider this to be a true 4 Star Hotel. We have enjoyed Sheratons, Westins and Hyatts much more. We will not choose this hotel again.”

• Inconvenient and expensive parking.

“The Hilton Palcio del Rio is ideally situated for travelers wishing to enjoy the beautiful Riverwalk area of San Antonio. The hotel is one of the older ones in this location, but the upkeep and decor are in keeping with the high standards of Hilton hotels, and the rooms reflect this also. When eating in the river-front restaurants, keep in mind that one is paying more for the location than the excellence of the food, which is no more than adequate.”

• Parking. No valet parking available. Had to self-park. However, they didn't charge us.

“The hotel was in a great location with a great view all the employees were friendly and eager to help w directions, questions, etc. Will definitely have to do this again. This was a great, affordable, pleasant last minute weekend getaway.”

• The staff was great. Upgraded us to a room overlooking the San Antonio river walk and gave us a late check out.

“This was a great hotel, very clean, elegant with awesome staff. We loved our room overlooking the river. Also appreciated bottled water in our room. The shower was a little difficult to regulate otherwise everything was perfect. There was no problem when we asked to extend our checkout time.”

“Great for Fiesta or New Year's because it's next door to La Villita. The room is small but the nice balcony helps. Parking is off site and a pretty far walk. And it still costs as much (or more) to park there as it does at nearby hotels with onsite parking.”

• Location was excellent beautiful lobby and river walk terrace.
• Parking fees. We parked offsite but found a close parking garage for much less.

“Nice stay. I would only rate it as a 4 star hotel because of the location. The rooms were clean and comfortable, but not 4 star quality. However, you had access to the beautiful river walk right outside the lobby. We had a nice stay. Room service was 4star priced!”

• Location, hotel employees, besetting very clean and comfy.
• Room facing street on 8th floor noisy and freight train whistles all night. Should have asked to be move across hall.

“Would stay again. Food and food service needs to be upgraded. Meals were received room temp. So eating there again would not be an option.”

• The balcony and the view were AMAZING.
• Parking was expensive.

“This hotel exceeded my expectations. The location was right in the heart of the River Walk. Our room had a balcony that overlooked the River Walk and it was amazing. The room itself was very comfortable with comfortable bedding and a nice sized bathroom.”

• They were very helpful and upgraded our room when the first room we visited was not ready for us.
• The valet parking option was very expensive ($35 plus tax per night).

“We enjoyed our stay at the Hilton Palacio Del Rio. The location was fabulous, right on the river walk and close to restaurants and bars. The staff was very helpful and friendly, and our room was comfortable and clean, with an amazing view of the city and river walk and a balcony. I would definitely stay here again and recommend it to family and friends.”

• The bedding was very comfortable. The view on both sides of hotel was great. The location is perfect.
• There were not enough people at the front counter. I had to wait a while (10-20mints) every time I wanted to talk to someone behind the desk.

“I had a good experience. I love the hotel's location, The friendly staff, Its wonderful to be right on the board walk as well as so close to other attractions. I loved the balcony and the view from my room. The restaurant food was not very good though. It wasn't awful, but it was way over priced for the selection. I liked that it had been color coded for particular diets, however it was actually more of a "no brainer". For example, they had pancakes and French toast under a label that meant "indulgence and high energy". I was confused by the eggs label "indulgence"... really? why is that? It ended up being more confusing than helpful. It did create discussion at the table however of how they came up with those labels. The second thing that was quite an inconvenience is the parking situation. You can choose to either valet or self park. Valet is 50$ and self park at a parking garage a block away is 22$. I little overpriced for my pocket. I know this hotel has prime location, but the fact that you have to pay to park and breakfast is poor and overpriced. Spending a couple hundred dollars on a hotel with such a high rating. I would hope I would get more luxuries. I ended up paying for the room and then finding cheaper things to do around the hotel, rather than stay at the hotel for food etc.”

“Although clean and in a great location, I can not recommend this hotel to someone staying in San Antonio. The hotel is very aged. The bathroom, the carpet, the bed, all need to be updated. The lobby is great, but the rooms look no different than any 2.5 star hotels Ive stayed at. I supposed for the price I paid, I was expecting something a little more upscale or unique.”

“Valet parking is $35.00, if you do not want to pay that, they offer the parking garage around the corner and across the street. The valet tells you to park only on the 7'th floor which is for Hilton guests. When we left, the parking on the 7'th floor was $23.00, which was very deceiving when the first sixth floor in the garage was only $6.00. We could have saved walking time, and money if we would have been fully informed at check in.”

• Excellent staff from porters to maid service alike.
• The elevator entrance to the restaurant smelled like a urinal.

“I had the most memorable time at the Hilton. Every desire was met before I even knew I wanted it! Beautiful room, lanai with a view, fluffy towels, soft sheets, just wonderful. The staff enjoys their positions and it shows. Perfect fitness room also.”

• It was the best hotel I have ever stayed at. Very clean & comfortable.
• The cost of parking when you already pay to stay there.
