• Hotel was in an excellent location for site seeing.
• Beds are entirely too small when traveling with teenagers.

“The hotel was nice and all the staff was extremely friendly and helpful. The fact that the hotel had a balcony was great. It was very relaxing to just sit outside at night and watch the night life on the Riverwalk. The only complaint I would have, is that my husband had to sleep on the recliner the second night, because the double bed was too small for two adults to sleep comfortably. We had to make a bed on the floor out of pillows for my oldest teenager, because we have two teenagers and they had the same problem that my husband and I had. With two people, the beds where leaning towards the center and you felt like you were both falling towards the center of the beds. No one slept well the first night of our stay. The second night I slept well. (I had the bed to myself) Queen beds would have been much better. Overall, we had a great time and really enjoyed out stay. I would stay at this hotel again if they had rooms with larger beds without having to use two rooms for overall savings.”

“Nice hotel for visiting the Riverwalk. The hotel was clean but old so ceiling in hall were low making it appear dingy. Bathroom was very small. Pool on the roof was going to be highlight and ended up being only a square on the roof. We did enjoy sitting there and hearing bagpipers from the street below. Last parking is not included and runs $22-40 a night.”

“I was not pleased with then hotel. Our room was supposed to be a non smoking room, but we were put in a smoking room. The hotel was full, so there wasn't another room available. The carpets were dirty. The hotel needs remodeling. There was a condensation leak from the ceiling.”

• The hotel was very clean and comfortable. It was at a great location.
• Parking was a problem. The front was congested when we were trying to leave. It cost us extra not to have our ticket.

“I would recommend Palacio del Rio to anyone interested in going to San Antonio. The location was perfect for those who are interested being in the center of San Antonio. Everything was within walking distance.”

“I was very disappointed with the rating of this hotel. I expected a 4 star hotel and just felt this was adequate at best. Every thing was dated, old and just felt ok-from the pool to the room service-everything just had a very tired and outdated look to it. Plus a lot of extra fees to use things that are pretty standard at other establishments like internet service, complementary newspaper, etc. I have three little boys and it was a challenge to hike them to the remote parking for self service parking and it was just a major disappoint all around. I certainly wouldn't recommend staying at this hotel ever again.”

“Great location, nice inside - rooms were smaller than they appeared in the photos I saw beforehand. The halls and rooms upstairs smelled "musty". The view from our balcony was wonderful - overlooking the Riverwalk - just beautiful. Skip the hotel restaurants. They were way overpriced for what was offered. The breakfast buffet was average at best and was $22. For adults and $12. For children. There are a lot of other hotels with just as nice a location and I would stay elsewhere on our next visit.”

“Could use a few updates, but overall great hotel. Was very close to everything! I loved my stay, there was a dance competition for girls at the convention center, so they were very busy, but my hubby and I still had a great time and hardly noticed the noise.”

• The location - accessible to all restaurants and shops also love the pool location.
• Not being able to park at the facility and also a daily charge for the parking.

“The staff were the best we have seen comparable to any place in the world! Paying $35.50 to park your car is insane! Overall the accommodations are worn and torn! We would stay again, left a day early, our home makes the hotel look like a pigsty! Again the staff were all great!”

• I forgot I had to pay extra for parking - valet was $35.00 a day.

“Loved the location on the Riverwalk. We ate at several places very close by. We did not eat there, however, we did have a couple of drinks at Durty Nelly's, one of their pubs/restaurants. The hotel staff was very helpful and the room was kept very clean and at our convenience. I appreciated the fact that we had all the amenities we needed such as an iron, coffee pot, and hair dryer. The toiletries provided were very nice as well. I would stay there again.”

• The parking was and issue, either valeting it for 30 bucks or self parking in a garage for $20+ or parking it on an open lot three blocks away for 12.

• Nice hotel, great location, with a full blown Starbucks in the lobby.
• Mattress and pillows not terribly comfortable.

“This was a nice hotel, in a great location. It is right next to the mall (it's actually attached, so you don't even have to go outside). The Alamo is across the street from the mall, so everything is close! The restaurants are very good, and the full Starbucks in the lobby is great. Customer service was also very good.”

“Nice hotel, at a great location, right on the Riverwalk, by the best Mexican food restaurants on the Riverwalk. The hotel was nice, the room was nice, and included a refrigerator and a balcony with a view. The only problem was that the carpet needed to be steam cleaned. It looked like it had stains all over it. If you are bringing a car, the parking is a block away in a garage, and it is expensive, but then again, all parking at hotels on the Riverwalk is expensive. Everything else was perfect.”

• The hotel was very centrally located, and had nothing terribly wrong with it.
• Everything was extremely over-priced, considering the hotel was not actually that nice, and self-parking at $22/day was 2 blocks away, with no shuttle.

“Overall, there was no huge complaint about this hotel. The location was good. The decor was very outdated, and the TV's in room very small and old. The Jacuzzi was an absolute joke, it resembled more of a bath tub. There are balconies on every room, which is nice, but the awful view of the convention center roof was not pleasant to look at. There were 2 sinks in the room, which was nice, when staying with another person. My biggest complaint was the parking. At $22/day self parking was several blocks away and you had to walk as no shuttle is provided. I believe for a no frills business trip this hotel would be great. However, not very exciting for a romantic getaway.”

• Very attractive room and amenities. Bed was extremely comfortable.
• I was incorrectly charged event parking fees. They fail to tell you that if you don't use their valet parking, they still charge $22 self-parking.

“The room was wonderful and staff was very friendly. Mini refrigerator in the room doesn't work well, but served it's general purpose. I stayed at this hotel downtown in the very center of all the fiesta festivities. It was prime location and within walking distance to everything. However, the parking garage is about 2 blocks away, not very convenient, and you're charged a flat fee of $22 plus taxes. You'd be better off telling them that you took a cab & don't need parking & then park at the River Center Mall parking lot for around $7. And if you park in that lot all day, then leave at night - the gates are open and you pay nothing. I'll know better next time. Overall wonderful hotel. I would definitely stay again!”

“Great place a little dated compared to other hotels in the area. Room smaller than others, but worked well for my overnight visit. Walking distance to a lot of downtown attractions. Drawback was the high cost of off site parking in a garage a block and a half away. But at least there was convenient parking available. Overall a good place to stay, I would stay again.”

“All front desk staff was rude and acted like we were bothering them. The concierge was great. Housekeeping took till 5 pm to clean the room then they made the beds with dirty linen. Was not an enjoyable stay.”

• Great location, beautiful hotel, very nice room, quiet, yet festive atmosphere. Really loved it, didn't want to leave.
• The jets in the hot tub were not strong enough the pool area could have stayed open later.

“Clean, beautiful, quiet, even with the basketball team staying there. It was final 4 week. We really liked the location. We could walk to everything. Would stay there again.”

“The lobby and river restaurants were attractive and inviting. I witnessed the building of the hotel years ago, and was fascinated that the rooms were stacked atop each other, fully furnished. I liked seeing the Kansas basketball team that was staying there for the Final Four of the National Collegiate Athletic Association tournament.”

“When asked to provide dining options at 10:30 PM, the concierge directed us to the hotel's own restaurant, and led us to believe that area restaurants close at 10:30 or so. The truth was, right on the River walk, within a few minutes, there were other restaurants open late into the night. Our bad for not exploring other options and putting blind faith on the concierge's recommendation. However, we do expect honest service from 4-start hotel concierge.”

“Very disappointed with hotel. Room extremely small. The only benefit of this hotel is that it is on the River walk. For a few dollars more I could have stayed at a hotel with a nicer, bigger room and one that gives amenities to its guests, refreshments, snacks.”

• Walked out back entry directly onto the river walk with easy access to all attractions and great food.
• Concierge gave advice for restaurants that was mediocre at best. Walked past several better places to eat getting there.

“Location. Just 2 short blocks from history of the Alamo. A doorway from the beauty and serenity of the river walk. Next door to Lavallette, a beautiful old village from history. Just open your room door for the vast array of smells from many great eateries, and to watch boats lazily traversing the waterway with tourists. Great for a weekend away, final 4, family visits, or business travelers.”

• I like the fact that the hotel was central to everything that we had planned.
• I didn't like where we had to park. It was quite a distance away and to walk w/ luggage. Also, the parking was very expensive.

“The hotel was very nice. Staff was friendly. However, parking was 22.00 a night and it was quite a distance from the actual hotel. If you decided not to use that valet, you had quite a walk with your luggage. I had not anticipated a charge to access the internet, and the breakfast was entirely too expensive. It seemed that they charged you for everything! The convenience and location of the hotel is what made the overall impression worthwhile.”

• Parking was horrible.

“Staff was very friendly; parking was bad, 2 block walk, and 22.00 a day. We were not given an option to select a non-smoking room; therefore they put us in one even though my girlfriend is allergic to cigarette smoke. The management was very friendly and placed us in the only available non-smoking room- a handicapped one. Comfortable beds.”

“The rooms have a nice view whether you are on the river or city side. Rooms were very quiet and the beds were extremely comfortable. The location on the Riverwalk and near the Alamo was perfect; we could walk everywhere - that made it very relaxing. It was easy to get on the freeway from the hotel too! We would stay there again for the price again in a heartbeat!”
