“It has some good historic appearances, but the overall quality does not catch up the fame of the hotel.” Sep 4, 2008 by
Marty from Conroe, TX
“From the moment I arrived I was very disappointed. First I had no clue that the only parking for the hotel was going to cost me an extra $20 a day, don't pay the extra for valet because they are just going to park your car in the same spot which by the way is across the street. When I actually entered the hotel I found the chandeliers and looks to be of a very old style but elegant so I thought there might be hope. Once I entered the elevator I felt scared, very old looking. Once off the elevator there was this awful smell like mildew or something. I was still hoping for an awesome room though. Well what a let down. The room was very outdated even though they claimed to have been renovated about 10 years ago. The worse part being the beds, I was truly looking forward to a plush comfortable bed, it was a box with covers and the pillows were even worse. This hotel room was not a type of room that you would want to spend much time in. Me and my wife were planning to spend a lot of romantic time in the hotel room but since it was horrible we made it a point to spend as little time as we had to during our get away. Oh and to top it off on the morning of our check out we had planned to sleep in cause of our exhausting day before, well that plan was cut short when construction on the hotel started at about 6 to 7 in the morning. Bang and it just seemed to echo through the room. Overall my experience at this hotel was very bad and I will never stay at this hotel again. Maybe I was wrong in my expectations of a 3 star hotel but if this is a typical 3 star then I highly recommend a much higher star level.” Sep 3, 2008 by
Kirsten from Longview, TX
“The hotel was beautiful and had lot of charm. Perfect location and friendly staff. Would highly recommend it.” Sep 3, 2008 by
Yolanda from Houston, TX
“The staff was extremely congenial, the hotel was beautiful. Loved the old pictures in the lobby it was a glimpse of history. I loved the proximity to the Riverwalk! Thanks for the memories!” Sep 2, 2008 by
David from Houston, TX
“The hotel was very nice, close to all downtown activities but the bed was very uncomfortable needed new mattress.” Sep 1, 2008 by
Amber from San Antonio, TX
“An overall review of the hotel and the staff was it was a prefect example of a three star hotel.” Aug 30, 2008 by
Nancy from Port Orange, FL
“Good location to get to the Alamo and Riverwalk. Needs some talk. Park across the street has many homeless people and the parking is very expensive. No fridge in room, old piping in bathrooms and smells of mildew.” Aug 29, 2008 by
Phillip from Walnut Springs, TX
“The St. Anthony was a decent stay for the week; we went for 4 nights for our anniversary. The location couldn't be topped unless it was on the Riverwalk itself. The room was a complimentary upgrade since we were celebrating our anniversary and was very elegantly furnished. The bed was an extremely comfortable pillow-top king mattress and the plasma TVs in the room and sitting area were an added plus. The bathroom was tiny, given the size of the rest of the suite we stayed in, but wasn't unbearable. The pool was outdated, and the room service was quite expensive, $4.75 for hot tea (pitcher of hot water and some tea bags) and $2.25 for some toast (which we didn't order, just looked through the room service menu). Overall, our stay was pleasurable and I would recommend.” Aug 29, 2008 by
Nicky from Albuquerque, NM
“This is a beautiful historic hotel within a couple of blocks of the Alamo and the Riverwalk. You really feel you are experiencing San Antonio's urban life.” Aug 27, 2008 by
Cynthia from Pflugerville, TX
“Overall, the experience was good. Nice, clean rooms, with great beds. This hotel is more appropriate for couples or business travel.” Aug 26, 2008 by
Mary from Tyler, TX
“Very elegant hotel. Amazing lack of concern for guests under emergency situation.” Aug 26, 2008 by
Felipe from Waco, TX
“A very classy older hotel.” Aug 26, 2008 by
Katherine H. from Austin, TX
“The St. Anthony is a lovely old fashioned hotel. The whole hotel is non-smoking and fresh and clean, and beautifully decorated. The sad fly in the ointment was that at two in the morning the fire alarm went on and after climbing down eight flights of stairs in my night gown and robe, and sitting for forty-five minutes while we waited for the go ahead to go back to our rooms, we were in no way compensated for the loss of a good night's sleep and the embarrassment of waiting in bed clothes down in the lobby. An apology of sorts was issued and slid under our door but nothing else.” Aug 26, 2008 by
Charlie from Houston, TX
“Historic Saint Anthony Hotel is a place I heard about frequently as a child growing up in San Antonio because it was a place for events involving celebrities, captains of commerce and the political elite. Having finally stayed there, I now know why they were drawn there. It is resplendent in fine appointments and graceful charm. My room was updated and very comfortable indeed, it was luxurious for the price. I ordered room service, which was prompt and delicious. I cannot report on the dining or bar as I had no opportunity to visit there. The St. Anthony is convenient to all of San Antonio's downtown attractions but removed just a block or two so that you don't feel like you are staying at a theme park hotel.” Aug 24, 2008 by
Erika from Midland, TX
“I am sorry to say I will not be recommending this hotel to anyone. I was not pleased to find there was construction going on. Now a days money is not easy to come by and I was not pleased to pay any amount of money for the accommodations that my family and I were provided with. I was looking to provide a nice family outing and we were disappointed.” Aug 23, 2008 by
Christine from Holbrook, NY
“What a disappointing experience. At first we were thrilled to stay at such a historic hotel. The thrill left us quickly when we were told how much it was to park. Not knowing the area we took the "tip" from the valet that it was cheaper to park across the street. Once we were checked in we were notified that there would be no water between 2:00 a.m. and 6:00 a.m. Not a pleasant thought about not having a toilet to flush after all that Mexican food. The hotel smells old. The bedspread was old and dingy. The first room we had had a rusty hole in the tub. The next room had carpeting that was buckling up and a TV that didn't work. No hot water was an issue, we couldn't shower which wasn't pleasant since it was extremely hot. After maintenance came up and had no answer to why there was no hot water. I decided I wasn't pulling down the dingy bedspread to see the sheets which have probably never seen hot water. We couldn't get out of there fast enough. Left at 1:00 a.m., took a picture of the Alamo in the dark and didn't look back. The homeless in the park in the daytime and the hookers at night time? Overall a bad experience. Wyndham needs to take their name off this hotel. The river smells like a cesspool, San Antonio was a big waste of time.” Aug 23, 2008 by
Sharon from Greenville, TX
“The St. Anthony was beautiful - from the lobby to the rooms to the views! The staff was courteous and responded quickly to our needs. The location was excellent, within walking distance to the Alamo, the Riverwalk, countless restaurants, and more - even for my 85 year old father. What a wonderful experience.” Aug 23, 2008 by
Craig from Houston, TX
“The hotel was something in its day. That day is not today. If you want clean and everything working, go to another hotel. The staff was nice but not enough to make up for the old charm of this place. The hotel pool looked abandoned. I think they are going to re-do soon but they should either keep it clean or shut it down. We won't be back.” Aug 22, 2008 by
Rebecca from Ann Arbor, MI
“Lovely old hotel in ok neighborhood. Great staff and rooms.” Aug 21, 2008 by
Heather from Dallas, TX
“Our expectations were overly met. When we read "Historic Hotel", we didn't know what to expect. Thankfully, the moment we were greeted by the valet, we knew our stay was going to be incredible. The attendants at the front desk were very helpful and respectful. They had upgraded our room with no hesitation for no extra fee. We made it into town early and were able to check-in earlier than planned. Everyone there was so helpful and nice. Not to mention, we were across from a park and walking distance from the Alamo and River center Mall. We'll definitely tell everyone about our stay here.” Aug 20, 2008 by
Tanya from Vidor, TX
“Hotel was very clean and the staff was very friendly. It is unlikely that I would stay at this hotel again, due to the extra cost for parking. I have never experienced this before at a hotel.” Aug 20, 2008 by
Amber from San Angelo, TX
“I don't know if I would stay here again. This hotel was more than what I expected, but the rooms are really small and there is an old smell to it. Also, there is a parking charge of 24.50 a night for valet and 19.00 a night for self. The valet parking is in the same area as the self parking without any covered spaces, but 5.00 more for them to walk across the street (not even a block away) to get the vehicle when we could have walked the same short distance for 5$ less a night plus taxes.” Aug 20, 2008 by
Shea from Houston, TX
“It was okay, the location was great because convenient to walk to Riverwalk. However, the first room we stayed in was so small we could barely fit in there at the same time. The first room was on the 5th floor and we could not sleep because of the traffic on the street. The good thing was we were granted a new room after we requested. The room was much bigger and farther away from the street with a nice view of the park.” Aug 20, 2008 by
Tammie from Odessa, TX
“Staff was very friendly, rooms were clean and comfortable, bathroom was small, and location was great.” Aug 20, 2008 by
John from Dallas, TX
“The hotel is what you would expect for historic. A bit antiquated but comfortable. The parking seems expensive at $25 per night, unlimited in/out, until you realize the only other choice is $10 per day with no in/out. The valet service was friendly and work hard at having the car ready when we requested it.” Aug 20, 2008 by
Nick from Brookline, MA
“The place is very conveniently located - steps to Alamo, Riverwalk, Children's Museum, lots restaurants. It is also directly across the street from a pretty urban park which has a lot of homeless folks hanging out in it all hours of the day. It is undergoing renovations and it shows. Some of the oldness is very beautiful and charming - in particular the bathrooms are very classically 1920's style. We had 2 rooms. One room had a nice view, beautiful bath with huge full size tub and separate shower - way, way more space than you would get in a modern hotel bath. The other room had a view of wall and vent system, and 2 bathrooms - neither of which offered hot water. One of our rooms did not receive maid service until it was requested. The overall feel of the lobby and public space is a strange mix of opulent but a little tired. Interior design is weirdly incoherent but perhaps that is just because of renovations.” Aug 20, 2008 by
Jid from Delaware, ON CA
“Nice location, but do not bring your car.” Aug 20, 2008 by
Linda G. from Dallas, TX
“Staying at the Saint Anthony was really a pleasure. If you are looking for a very friendly staff and an historical hotel that is very nice you will not be disappointed. The location is great. I had not enjoyed the downtown area of San Antonio until this trip and staying here was great!” Aug 20, 2008 by
Melanie from Waxahachie, TX
“This was a nice hotel in a bad area. Parking was outrageous! Only thing I did not like about the room was that the bathroom was really small.” Aug 20, 2008 by
Tajuana from Bellwood, IL
“Nice antique lobby but the rooms need to be renovated, I had a leak in my room and the water pressure was very low. Also the bathroom was super small, the toilet was built right next to the wall leaving no room for even the smallest person to sit comfortably. The buffet breakfast was disgusting.” Aug 19, 2008 by
John from Lincoln, NE
“The hotel has a lot of old history. The rooms were much smaller than normal and extremely boxy unlike your modern longer rooms. The hotel has tried to capture its rich history and failed in updating itself to that of a modern day facility. It can be noted that they tried to update themselves in the rooms though. It smelled old and stale as well. The walls were pretty thin and I heard the elevator each time it opened from 5 doors away. Sometimes its good to hold on to history, but this is the main reason the hotel has not been competitive with those that are a right on top of the Riverwalk. If the overall hotel was updated to a modern look instead of grasping as history, it would have a chance at repeating its business with me in the future.” Aug 19, 2008 by
James from Brownsville, TX
“Very nice hotel very well located near Riverwalk has lots of history in motel very nice.” Aug 19, 2008 by
Steve from Kingwood, TX
“I was very happy with the quality of the hotel and the super friendly staff. The location was perfect, just 1 1/2 blocks off the Riverwalk. The room was a bit small, but furnishings were lovely. All in all, I though the value was fantastic.” Aug 18, 2008 by
Jason from Canal Winchester, OH
“Aside from the parking fee, I really enjoyed my stay here. The hotel was beautifully decorated and located close to many restaurants and attractions.” Aug 18, 2008 by
James from Chickasha, OK
“The St. Anthony is great for someone who specifically wants to stay in a Historic Hotel. The St. Anthony is not family friendly, business traveler friendly or romantic. The rooms are in no way 3 star. They are dingy old. Not old in a romantic/antic kind of way either. The rooms are closer to a 1-2 star. The pool area was something out of a horror flick. I really liked how these kids that were doing construction somewhere in the hotel kept coming to the pool bathrooms to get high and then would leave through the fire exit. This hotel is under construction that is supposed to be complete by January 2008. From what I could see the rooms that had been renovated were still 1-2 star rooms. We had 1 room on the 9th floor, one room on the 4th floor and one room on the 5th floor. So we got a pretty good look of the place. Final recommendation: stay away from this hotel. You can find places much nicer that cost less in Downtown SA.” Aug 18, 2008 by
Becky from College Station, TX
“Watch out if you need two beds in your room because they initially told us they didn't have one and then after speaking with a different representative one magically appeared. They are doing construction on the hotel so we were woken up to jackhammers in the morning. Parking is at least 20 bucks and they push for valet. This is a very nice, historic hotel, not necessarily made for a rowdy family or group of friends. They do have a rooftop pool which was nice but nothing special. Also, this hotel is categorized in the Downtown/Riverwalk area but it is a little bit of a walk to restaurants and entertainment and it is not right next to the river.” Aug 18, 2008 by
Juan from Pembroke Pines, FL
“Beautiful historic hotel located in the Downtown area of San Antonio, within walking distance of Riverwalk. The hotel room is small but yet cozy and in excellent condition considering the hotel is going to be 100 years old in December 2008.” Aug 18, 2008 by
Tracy from Roxton, TX
“Very nice hotel. It was far better than I expected. The only complaint is parking, it across the street and expensive for overnight parking.” Aug 18, 2008 by
Cynthia from Longview, TX
“This hotel is wonderful. The staff was very attentive and friendly. The room was lovely. I felt like I was in a fine European hotel.” Aug 18, 2008 by
Jessica from Dallas, TX
“Overall, I enjoyed my stay at the Wyndham in San Antonio. When inside the hotel, I had no concerns for safety and it was a beautiful hotel. Our room was very nice and we had a king size bed. Only concern was the park across the street that had homeless people all around it and what seemed to be thugs. Other then that, we had a great time and I would likely stay at that hotel again. Hopefully the city can clean up that park a little.” Aug 18, 2008 by
Andrew from Denton, TX
“Nice, antique hotel. Parking not too bad, but separate from hotel and $19/night. Valet guy was super nice. Staff was not too aware of city highlights, but otherwise friendly. Enjoyed the stay and location. Would stay again. The rooms are very nice, especially for the price.” Aug 17, 2008 by
Michael from Whitehouse, TX
“This hotel was decent at best. I would certainly not rate it a three star. The staff was cordial, but not over friendly. The room reeked of mildew and mold could be seen on the walls, ceiling and down the entire hallway of the ninth floor where we stayed.” Aug 17, 2008 by
Stacey from Gordon, TX
“This hotel was probably a sight to see in its glory days, but those days were long gone. The hotel was nice. Over all I think we would stay again because it was very family friendly and near the Riverwalk.” Aug 16, 2008 by
Ramon from Texas City, TX
“Great location. It is an historic place and I appreciate that fact. However there is signs of wear on it from the bathrooms to the beds. I would recommend this place and did enjoy staying here.” Aug 16, 2008 by
Alisa from Tyler, TX
“The hotel is showing it's age, but it is currently being renovated. I would stay there again once the renovation is complete.” Aug 16, 2008 by
Valerie from Corpus Christi, TX
“We got the worst room available. The room almost looked institutional, not warm and inviting. We didn't even have a roll of toilet paper in the room when we arrived. My husband had to call the front desk for a roll and then was questioned on how much we were using. Only when he told them there was none to begin with they agreed to bring us a roll. He was not happy. What was to be a short leisure trip became a nightmare.” Aug 15, 2008 by
James from Irving, TX
“I would stay at the St. Anthony again, although you need to be aware that the hotel is about 2 blocks from the Riverwalk. The immediate area surrounding the hotel does not offer much in the way of eating, so you will need to walk to one of the many eateries on the Riverwalk. We spent most of our time at Sea World and Fiesta Texas, so our kids were not an issue once in the hotel. The roof top pool was a treat for the kids.” Aug 14, 2008 by
Richard from San Angelo, TX
“It is time to consider a total renovation, not just new paint and furniture. The Travis St park located across the street from the hotel was unfortunately a haven for the homeless. I hate to see so many people suffering, but perhaps not the best area for a family trip. I am not at all pleased with this hotel.” Aug 14, 2008 by
Tammy from San Antonio, TX
“It was hard to tell this was a hotel from the outside, across from Travis Park which is a hangout for homeless people making being outside a bit scary. The pool area looked as if it were under construction but not marked and left a lot to be desired. As I said in a question earlier parking was unreal, phone did not work in the room, AC was not really cold, did not rent movies in the room because of such a distorted picture on the TV, did not offer a reasonable priced restaurant in the hotel - basically the only thing we did at that hotel was sleep and shower. The price was outweighed by the parking and food.” Aug 14, 2008 by
Valerie from Weatherford, TX
“This hotel was fabulous. It is located just a few blocks from the Alamo canter and the Mall. Perfect walking distance. Parking is expensive, but that is true of any place you want to park in Downtown. Overall, this if a perfect hotel for a weekend get-away.” Hotel Representatives:
