  • Excellent staff, willingly helpful and pleasant. Very clean and tidy grounds.
  • Parking arrangements.

“I was most impressed by the quality of the staff. They were available if needed but not noticeable if you didn't. No garish uniforms, they blend in with the guests but are Johnny on the spot if needed and generally pleasant. The grounds are immaculate and well tended. It is a very pleasant place to stay in a lovely setting.”

“I think this might have been our best experience thus far. The room was great-clean, comfortable, and pleasant. The beds and bedding were extremely comfortable. The hotel grounds were well kept up. The pool was relaxing. We ate in the restaurant and the food was great and the service was outstanding. All of these things made for a very enjoyable experience. I highly recommend this hotel and hope to stay there again.”

“We all enjoyed our stay at the el conquistador very much. Good location, great facilities, friendly, helpful staff. The only negative was if you didn't put the do not disturb sign on your door every night; housekeeping would wake you up every morning at 8am to see if they could clean your room. Who gets up at 8am while on vacation for crying out loud!”

  • Location was too isolated, parking limited, fees for everything.

“The rooms were OK - wish there would've been a refrigerator other than the mini-bar. Parking was very limited and walks to the room were too far. Valet parking took up half the available parking. I had to park about 1/4 mile from my room one evening there was a party in the hotel. The location is very isolated -- if you never plan to leave the hotel its OK, otherwise, long drive to anywhere. Too many extra fees. Charge per day for the exercise room, charge per day for wireless internet access with a weak signal. I go to Tucson for business and will stay elsewhere next time.”

  • Black mold in air ventilations, poor response from staff.

“Outstanding pool and tennis courts. However, the room smelled musty leading our family to discover black mold covering air ventilation and staining ceiling. Less than enthusiastic response from housekeeper, who did not notify management. Forced to complain to front desk, not the type of service one would expect from a "five star resort". The front desk was rather clueless to the meaning of "exceptional customer service".”

Overall Rating: 5 User Rating Score: 5
Cleanliness:[10] • Staff:[1] • Location:[10]

  • Physical layout, view, pool, food, room service.
  • On two occasions, I was turned down for insubstantial special requests.

“Formerly run by Sheraton, El Conquistador has immaculate and challenging golf courses, fantastic views of the Catalina Mountains. A well run family-with-kids program and a super pool layout. The restaurants are good, except for hiring inexperience. but nice wait staff. Maintenance issues, such as the needed replacement of ""tiles"" in the pool area, are obvious, and detract from the overall experience. El Conquistador was very full and busy the time I was there quite unlike most resorts in the Southwest during the Summer. Generally speaking, El Conquistador is a fun place to stay, if not a value for the price. They have a habit, as most Hilton do, of extra charges for everything, including pool towels if not returned to the desk, workout rooms, etc. ”

Cleanliness:[8] • Staff:[4] • Location:[9]

  • Beautiful location and landscaping.

“Overall our stay was slightly above average, however for the quality of the hotel rating I expected much more. My wife and I were not allowed to check in for a room 45 minutes prior to their "check-in time" and they also did not have the type of room we requested cleaned and ready. This issue was resolved well by the staff. In addition, I was told I could not use my Hilton Honors membership to get points with the stay. To be fair, the resort is a beautiful place with friendly staff however we had a few bad experiences which made our stay less than wonderful.”

“I thoroughly enjoyed my stay and wish it could've been longer. My room was beautiful, and the staff from the valet to the desk clerk to the bellmen just fall over themselves to help and really make you feel special. The ballroom where we had our conference room was also very comfortable (not freezing like they usually are) with great coffee, etc. I would definitely consider staying there again!”

Overall Rating: 6 User Rating Score: 6
Cleanliness:[7] • Staff:[3] • Location:[7]

  • The 143 ft. waterslide was great fun.
  • The concierge and front desk staff were incompetent..

“I stayed at four elite properties in Southern Arizona over two weeks in February 2006, and with the exception of the Hilton El Conquistador's 143 ft. waterside, fantastic shower pressure, Bridget the aerobics instructor and Tessa at the pool bar, the others beat it out hands down. Upon check-in, I was greeted by a sallow desk clerk who confessed she'd thrown up 6 times that day. Being a mother of 4, I felt sorry for her and just took my key without the usual hotel queries, but the management should not have let her be there. Hence, I was not given my preferred guest benefits till I asked the next day. That clerk told me many of the staff were sick and continuing to come to work. Tessa at the pool bar was a phenomenal hostess, and she made my time there relaxing and quite fun. The plastic chairs are pedestrian in comparison to other hotel's cushy patio furniture. The restaurant breakfast buffet was average and overpriced, so I did not even venture to the other restaurants, where even simple Mexican food was in the $20-$30 a plate range. The majority of fitness classes were at the country club 4 miles away, and Bridget the lively aerobics instructor, was worth the drive. However, no mention of this distance was made in the hotel literature. The rooms are cookie cutter small with tiny closets, but there was a nice view of the pool complex and mountains from the balcony of the top floor of the tallest building in which I stayed. Other floors did not have very nice views so ask for the 5th floor only. The place is old and furnishings are stale too. The concierge kept saying "I have no idea" as her mantra. Maybe I'd been spoiled elsewhere in Tucson, particularly by Johnnie at the Omni, but this woman did not even know how to direct me to a downtown walking tour. Pathetic. The focus is on golf, which I do not play, and I was told horseback riding was limited to slow walking, so I was less than enthusiastic after having loped through the mountains at a dude ranch. ”
