“Nice experience.” Feb 20, 2007 by
Matthias from Mountain Green, UT
“Beautiful & clean hotel in great setting in ore valley (north-east of Tucson) w/ golf course surrounding it. Inconvenient for business travelers to downtown Tucson but perfect for golf outing w/ customers. Large rooms; friendly staff. Wish we could have stayed longer.” 1 of 1 people found this review helpful.Feb 19, 2007 by

“Beautiful property in scenic mountain canyon setting with great sunsets! Very surprised at how low the occupancy considering this is beginning of peak season.” Feb 12, 2007 by
Lori from Phoenix, AZ
“This hotel is everything and more you expect from a Hilton. Beautiful rooms- very clean- unbeatable views and location. I would stay here again and again-great facilities and food.” Dec 27, 2006 by
Nancy from Portland, OR
“We all enjoyed our stay at the el conquistador very much. Good location, great facilities, friendly, helpful staff. The only negative was if you didn't put the do not disturb sign on your door every night; housekeeping would wake you up every morning at 8am to see if they could clean your room. Who gets up at 8am while on vacation for crying out loud!” Oct 16, 2006 by
Glenn from Poway, CA
“The rooms were OK - wish there would've been a refrigerator other than the mini-bar. Parking was very limited and walks to the room were too far. Valet parking took up half the available parking. I had to park about 1/4 mile from my room one evening there was a party in the hotel. The location is very isolated -- if you never plan to leave the hotel its OK, otherwise, long drive to anywhere. Too many extra fees. Charge per day for the exercise room, charge per day for wireless internet access with a weak signal. I go to Tucson for business and will stay elsewhere next time.” Sep 27, 2006 by
William from Peoria, AZ
“Outstanding pool and tennis courts. However, the room smelled musty leading our family to discover black mold covering air ventilation and staining ceiling. Less than enthusiastic response from housekeeper, who did not notify management. Forced to complain to front desk, not the type of service one would expect from a "five star resort". The front desk was rather clueless to the meaning of "exceptional customer service".” Sep 27, 2006 by

“Formerly run by Sheraton, El Conquistador has immaculate and challenging golf courses, fantastic views of the Catalina Mountains. A well run family-with-kids program and a super pool layout. The restaurants are good, except for hiring inexperience. but nice wait staff. Maintenance issues, such as the needed replacement of ""tiles"" in the pool area, are obvious, and detract from the overall experience. El Conquistador was very full and busy the time I was there quite unlike most resorts in the Southwest during the Summer. Generally speaking, El Conquistador is a fun place to stay, if not a value for the price. They have a habit, as most Hilton do, of extra charges for everything, including pool towels if not returned to the desk, workout rooms, etc. ” Jul 13, 2006 by
Kim from Tucson, AZ
“The hotel is expensive (Fee to use health facility, fee for late check out, fee for newspaper), and the rooms need to be updated. I have stayed in much nicer accommodations in Tucson for less.” May 15, 2006 by
Alan from Glendale, AZ
“Overall our stay was slightly above average, however for the quality of the hotel rating I expected much more. My wife and I were not allowed to check in for a room 45 minutes prior to their "check-in time" and they also did not have the type of room we requested cleaned and ready. This issue was resolved well by the staff. In addition, I was told I could not use my Hilton Honors membership to get points with the stay. To be fair, the resort is a beautiful place with friendly staff however we had a few bad experiences which made our stay less than wonderful.” May 10, 2006 by
Jeff from Thatcher, AZ
“I am pleased with my stay at this resort. Friendly staff, beautiful landscaping and gardens. I didn't like relocating around the pool area while staff were setting up for a banquet, especially when this started around 1 and we were told that the pool would be closed at 5.” Mar 31, 2006 by
Catherine N. from Sierra Vista, AZ
“I thoroughly enjoyed my stay and wish it could've been longer. My room was beautiful, and the staff from the valet to the desk clerk to the bellmen just fall over themselves to help and really make you feel special. The ballroom where we had our conference room was also very comfortable (not freezing like they usually are) with great coffee, etc. I would definitely consider staying there again!” Mar 26, 2006 by
Lorraine from Anthem, AZ
“This hotel was conveniently located to where we wanted to be. They have a nicely landscaped pool area. Rooms were neat, and the sheets and pillows excellent. Breakfast buffet was good. The rooms in unit 3 have quite a walk to get to. Also enjoyed the golf course.” Mar 19, 2006 by
Staci from Redondo Beach, CA
“I really enjoyed the El Conquistador Hotel. My room was very nice, although it smelled a bit smoky. I was in Tucson on business, and as such I did not spend much time at the hotel, but I will certainly consider it for a leisure vacation. Beautiful location and great service.” Mar 18, 2006 by
John from Marietta, GA
“For business travelers who are in town to entertain I would recommend for the golf and availability of casual dining. Solo travelers on a short business trip it is not very ideal. Out of the way, poor access to freeway and center city.” 1 of 1 people found this review helpful.Mar 13, 2006 by
Steve from Thatcher, AZ
“The rooms are huge and very inviting. The mountains above the resort are breathtaking and allows you to forget you are in Tucson. Definitely try the Latin American restaurant on the premises. It is out of this world and first class.” Mar 12, 2006 by
Richard from Peoria, AZ
“Loved the area and the views from parts of the hotel, not my room. Hotel staff friendly and helpful. Restaurants were excellent. Would consider going back hopefully in a different room.” Mar 9, 2006 by
Glen from Tinley Park, IL
“Very disappointed in the rooms. They need to remodel the rooms and make them larger somehow. They were not any larger than a Holiday Inn room and certainly not up to a resort quality.” Mar 9, 2006 by
Scott from Las Vegas, NV
“we enjoyed our stay. The staff was friendly and the room was clean. For a resort hotel, it was older and not nice.” Mar 9, 2006 by
Dennis from Stevenson Ranch, CA
“It's located in a beautiful place and the grounds are nice. But the rooms feel a little old. The service in the restaurant was mediocre for a resort. Overall, my stay was good, but not great.” Mar 9, 2006 by
Jim from Arlington, VA
“This is a nice hotel in a new far suburb of Tucson. To describe this as Tucson is a huge stretch.” Mar 8, 2006 by
Ellen from Naperville, IL
“Nice resort with beautiful grounds. The pools looked inviting. We enjoyed the breakfast buffets. The room was quite comfortable.” Mar 7, 2006 by
Lee from Phoenix, AZ
“We've stayed there before. It is a good, old, resort, starting to show its age in the rooms.” Mar 7, 2006 by
Kate from Lockport, IL
“A lovely resort with great views of the mountains and desert. Lots of flowers and green grass on-site to go along with the warm sunny weather. The wait staff in the restaurants were exceptional. We took the sunset horseback ride and the views were wonderful. The room itself was plenty large enough for three adults. You will need a car to get anywhere else in Tucson. The baseball park is up to an hour away, depending on traffic.” Mar 6, 2006 by
Art from Chicago, IL
“Beautiful place needs to spiff up restaurant areas and menus.” 1 of 1 people found this review helpful.Feb 28, 2006 by
Max from Scottsdale, AZ
“It is a bit far from Tucson and the highway but the location at the bottom of the mountains is nice. Staff is friendly. Rooms and the hotel overall are in need of an update.” Feb 26, 2006 by
Kelli from Millville, NJ
“The hotel was really nice. Plenty of gift shopping, nice restaurants, beautiful views and a pool side bar. The people were pleasant and the room service was outstanding! It also has a well stocked mini fridge. Being outside and right near a mountain was also very nice. I really liked this hotel.” Feb 24, 2006 by
Mary from Reston, VA
“I stayed at four elite properties in Southern Arizona over two weeks in February 2006, and with the exception of the Hilton El Conquistador's 143 ft. waterside, fantastic shower pressure, Bridget the aerobics instructor and Tessa at the pool bar, the others beat it out hands down. Upon check-in, I was greeted by a sallow desk clerk who confessed she'd thrown up 6 times that day. Being a mother of 4, I felt sorry for her and just took my key without the usual hotel queries, but the management should not have let her be there. Hence, I was not given my preferred guest benefits till I asked the next day. That clerk told me many of the staff were sick and continuing to come to work. Tessa at the pool bar was a phenomenal hostess, and she made my time there relaxing and quite fun. The plastic chairs are pedestrian in comparison to other hotel's cushy patio furniture. The restaurant breakfast buffet was average and overpriced, so I did not even venture to the other restaurants, where even simple Mexican food was in the $20-$30 a plate range. The majority of fitness classes were at the country club 4 miles away, and Bridget the lively aerobics instructor, was worth the drive. However, no mention of this distance was made in the hotel literature. The rooms are cookie cutter small with tiny closets, but there was a nice view of the pool complex and mountains from the balcony of the top floor of the tallest building in which I stayed. Other floors did not have very nice views so ask for the 5th floor only. The place is old and furnishings are stale too. The concierge kept saying "I have no idea" as her mantra. Maybe I'd been spoiled elsewhere in Tucson, particularly by Johnnie at the Omni, but this woman did not even know how to direct me to a downtown walking tour. Pathetic. The focus is on golf, which I do not play, and I was told horseback riding was limited to slow walking, so I was less than enthusiastic after having loped through the mountains at a dude ranch. ” 1 of 1 people found this review helpful.Feb 23, 2006 by

“Attractive rooms. The sunrise cafe has very good food, overall the amenities were pleasant and attractive. The staff is friendly and attentive.” Feb 22, 2006 by
Leann from Silver City, NM
“This hotel treats guests as second class citizens, giving them the rooms which are in desperate need of redecorating, lacking in amenities such as a blow dryer, lotion or comforts. When calling ahead to make arrangements for the non-smoking or adjoining rooms when bringing teenagers, I was told that we make no arrangements prior to arrival. I would not chose their hotel, even though I belong to Hilton Honors.” 1 of 1 people found this review helpful.Feb 22, 2006 by
Larry from Las Cruces, NM
“The surrounding area and pool area were very nice. However, it is an older hotel that has been updated recently but still could use some work. The walls are paper thin and could hear everything happening in the room next door and in the hall.” Feb 22, 2006 by
Marla from Safford, AZ
“Nice hotel, nice room.” Feb 14, 2006 by
Sheri from Newport Coast, CA
“The rooms and grounds were nice and relaxing. The bottle water should be complimentary at the bed at night.” Feb 8, 2006 by
Carole from Chandler, AZ
“Waited over 15 minutes to check in at 8 pm, while travel companion waited in car and was asked to move even though she was not in the way.” Dec 3, 2005 by
James from Scottsdale, AZ
“Nothing.” Dec 1, 2005 by

“This hotel was very nice and met my expectations. The staff was friendly and were ready and willing to help in any way.” Nov 30, 2005 by

“Wish I had the Westward Look Resort instead.” Nov 28, 2005 by
Leslie from Chino Valley, AZ
“Convenient location for our family. Quiet, safe, peaceful and beautiful environment. Just exactly what a beautiful desert setting should be about. Excellent place.” Aug 10, 2005 by
Carol from Pinetop, AZ
“Excellent place to get away, fun for the kids, good food.” Mar 29, 2005 by
David from Mission Viejo, CA
“An upscale resort hotel about 10-15 miles North of downtown Tucson. Well kept-up, but slightly past its prime. Overall our experience was good, with only two complaints. First, they put us in a "handicapped" room (large bathroom with no doors; high-rise toilet) without asking us if that was OK. After two days they transferred us to another room (much nicer) but we should not have been assigned a "handicap" room to begin with!Second complaint: Everything at the El Con seems designed to extract extra money from guests. The parking nearest the entrance is reserved for "Valet" parking, at $11/night. It sits mostly empty, while hotel guests have to trek in from farther out. Having valet service is fine, but THAT should be the far-away parking, as guests will not have to trek out there if their vehicle is being retrieved by an attendant. Also, the one relatively inexpensive restaurant is only open for breakfast and lunch; at dinner time only the expensive restaurants are open! (The food at The Last Territory Steakhouse down the hill is quite good, however.)Overall, we were satisfied for the price, but would not have been happy if we were paying their normal rates.” Jan 29, 2005 by
Dawn from Las Vegas, NV
“Beautiful hotel. Great for family vacations and meetings. Mountain backdrop is beautiful.” Dec 24, 2004 by
Jeffrey A. from Camarillo “Accommodations were excellent. Restaurants ( dos locos ) was over priced and the food was poor. The grounds are perfect as was the rest of the hotel. This hotel is definitely four stars.” Dec 6, 2004 by
David E. from Tulsa “Carpets smelled bad in our room. The maid said they were old and they could not get the smell out of them” Oct 13, 2004 by
“We had a blast! We went there to bring two friends together and celebrate their birthdays. We didn't need to go anywhere but on the property. We swam from morning til night and were waited on hand and foot. We will be talking about making this memory for a very long time. Thank you for fine service.” Oct 13, 2004 by
