  • Historic, lots of history. Walking distance to downtown Chandler, Arizona. Very clean.
  • However we did love the Crowne Royal. I do not agree with Resort tax.

  • Room furnishings were good. Nice working desk.
  • The elevator was terrible. Very hot, no A.C. in it and barely worked. It even got stuck at one point and we had to walk up 3 flights.

“This hotel has clean rooms with a one cup coffee maker, which can be a challenge with more than one guest in room. The lobby is impressive and check in personnel very pleasant. When it came time to check out, the self-check which can be done via the TV was not working and we had to go to the desk. The elevator seemed old and unstable. It stopped working at one point and we had to walk up 3 flights. Basically, a nice clean place, nice pool area, but don't expect any frills or fruit in the lobby!”

“There was a resort fee that I was not made aware of until check-out. It was only $8 and change, but it should have been disclosed in a more obvious way. The bathtub in my room did not drain well so I had water up to my mid calf during my shower. The hotel was clean and comfortable, but the resort fee really upset me. When I asked the manager what it covered he was kind, but gave me some off response about covering parking lot fees, access to pools, workout room, access to laundry etc. But every hotel offers that stuff as a part of the room fee, right? My stay was pleasant overall.”

  • I liked the cleanliness of the rooms and spaces around the hotel. (pool area, fitness room, etc).
  • I did not like that I had quite a walk from my room to the pool. I was uncomfortable with this walk at midnight when the pool closed.

“We really enjoyed our stay at this hotel. The staff was very friendly and everything was clean and organized. The large pool and spa were very relaxing at the end of a long day! Due to time constraints, we were unable to visit the restaurants or shops, but there were many places to visit within walking distance.”

  • Room service food was horrible, cold and tasted straight out of freezer.

“I would recommend this hotel for a business trip or a family trip. The pool was beautiful and kid friendly. The room was great; the only suggestion is a small table for in room dining. I would not eat or at least order room service.”

  • The lobby was very nice.
  • We were put in an outdated crummy room detached from the main hotel.

“The main hotel looked nice but we were put in crummy 1 story rooms behind the hotel. Old run down stucco units. Outdated baths etc. Certainly not 3 star rooms. When we checked out they wanted to charge me $8.00 for cleaning the room and water usage etc. I am very unsatisfied.”

  • The Sunday brunch buffet was excellent. Very nice and helpful staff.
  • No microwave in the room. We had hoped to have popcorn.

“We had an excellent time. Although staying for only one night was just not enough for us, it did provide a wonderful change of pace from our "normal" lives. I have already recommended this resort to several friends.”

  • This is not a resort, it is an upscale motel on a golf course.

“If you are looking for a real resort, move on. This is an upscale motel on a sub par golf course. They like to think they are a resort, but in reality, they only have resort like facilities and YMCA quality.”

  • I really liked the young man who checked us in and told us about the history of the motel. I enjoyed the large swimming pool and Jacuzzi.
  • I found the housekeeping staff to not appear happy with their jobs/Jacuzzi was not real warm.

  • I liked the older nature of this hotel. It was close to many stores in downtown Chandler.
  • Everything was okay. It met my expectations.

  • Nice pool, rooms nice and beds very comfortable!
  • Shower/tub took forever to drain. Music very loud from party in the convention center.

“Rooms were very nice and clean. The beds were very comfortable and had many different size pillows. Rooms are very large and roomy. On another note, the tub/shower took forever to drain when showering/bathing. We were situated at the very end of the resort which was fine until there was a very loud party with loud booming rap music in the convention tent that went on for hours. This was on a Saturday night. Other than that, we enjoyed our stay and would come back again.”

  • Starbucks right on the property, rooms are good size.
  • No free airport shuttle.

“I liked this hotel overall. The one complaint I had was I thought there was a free airport shuttle and there wasn't. It cost us $30 to get there and $45 to go back to the airport. Other then that everything else was great.”

  • Service was terrible, front desk unavailable, disorganized.

“I was disappointed. The hotel seemed to have so much potential. The bed was comfortable and the bathrooms nice, but the other amenities were less than acceptable in the room. The front desk would never answer the phone when we tried to reach them for extra pillows for the pull-out couch or ask about hotel services. We bought breakfast vouchers and were told we could use them from 6:00am to 11:00am. When we arrived at the restaurant at 9:00am we were turned away. We ended up at McDonald¿s drive-thru. After our "wonderful" breakfast we hurried back to the hotel to swim before check-out to find the pool "temporarily" closed. Not impressed at all with the expected level of service for a hotel of this caliber and star rating.”

  • The location was very good and the staff helpful.
  • Poor cell phone and internet connection!

“We truly enjoyed our very short stay in this hotel and we look forward to staying there again in the future. Only thing was that our cell phone connection inside the building was non existent and there was no wireless internet connection in the room keeping connection with the outside world a bit unlike what we are used to and enjoy. It was clean and very comfortable. A lot of good history there which we also like.”

  • The room we were first given was inadequate.

“The room we were given was right next to the pool and had some problems. The sliding patio door lock did not lock properly and there was a poor attempt at adding an additional lock but it was hanging on to the wall by a thread - one good yank and it would not have held. The wallpaper on the window sill was peeling away. Not a good room. We called and they moved us right away to a different room that was ok. Our toilet tank was not operating properly in the new room and it took 2 calls to get someone to come out five hours later to fix it. Other than that, no problems. The grounds are beautiful. Our stay was ok, but not what I would have expected for the star rating. The last five nights of our vacation were spent at a resort in Scottsdale and we had quite the opposite experience. They upgraded us at no charge and were very good to us. We will return to Scottsdale. We will not return the san maros.”

  • Stayed in casita room the first night which smelled like smoke.

“Hotel seems to be family oriented. Stayed in casita room the first night that was rundown and smelled like smoke. Moved to room in main hotel that was very clean, well maintained, and comfortable. Staff was very helpful and accommodating. Kids loved the pool. Public areas were well maintained, and there was plenty of parking. Could use another computer in the business center, although there was never anyone using the facility when I needed to go online.”

  • The hotel itself was beautiful, had a lot of history behind it that I found interesting, a lot of amenities.
  • There was nothing about the hotel that I did not like.

“I was pleased to be able to stay there while visiting relatives in chandler. The hotel turned out to be 2 miles away from my family, so it was very convenient for me. I found the hotel to be very beautiful, and everyone working there to be extremely pleasant and helpful. I would definitely go back there and also recommend it to everyone I know.”

  • Music from a nearby club played loudly at night.

“The hotel is old but has had renovations. The area we stayed in was older but well maintained. We did have trouble with tub drainage but the staff was quick to fix it the next day. Was not crazy about the $8/day resort tax. We did get bottled water, tea, coffee, newspaper daily and a welcome packet on arrival but certainly not worth the fee. Staff was helpful and courteous. Rooms were comfortable. Pool was nice but could have been vacuumed more frequently. Music from neighboring club was loud. Luckily the music was good so it was ok to listen from poolside.”

  • The rooms were just redone.
  • The out side of the hotel was very dirty mud on the hallway walls the halls needed to be sweeped.

“The hallways were very dirty mud on the hallway walls about 4 ft above ground broken down soda machines in the hallways as well. the outside of the hotel was very dirty and not well cared for would I rate this hotel a 3 star hotel no way. This was rather disappointing.”

“The lobby and rooms are nicely updated and newly renovated, but all of that was lost in the argument over the "resort fee" that was charged at the time of check in. They tell me that the $8 per day resort fee is for a shoe shine, 2 bottles of water and access to the resort. "What resort?" True they have a golf course and some tennis courts, but that means nothing to a business traveler who checks in at 10pm and out the next morning at 7am. Plus, it isn't in the most ideal neighborhood either. Not my idea of leisure travel at a resort. My suggestion the next time I am in PHX is to stop at the store and buy 2 $.99 bottles of water and get another hotel; I'll keep the other $6 per day in my pocket and avoid the scam!”

“The hotel was a little over rated. I spent the night listening to my neighbors television while I was trying to sleep. Also had the joy of listening to some kids saxophone from his balcony. The pool had issues as it felt like a hot bathtub and had a strange odor to it. But the lay out was nice and easy to layout and relax. The golf course was very easy to get to and plenty of parking even with a few conferences in house.”

“I was "upgraded" from a 2 1/2 star hotel that provided free wireless Internet in the room and was very nice (I've stayed there before) to this "3 star" hotel that charged for Internet service and charged an $8 per day "resort fee", making the room much more expensive that it should have been. The room had a terrible musty smell.”

“This is a beautiful historic hotel. The hotel does charge an $8 daily "resort fee". This includes waters, newspaper, and 100 phone minutes per day. I did not want these items, but had to pay the fee.”
