“The room that I stayed in was extremely small. 15 x 15. The colors of the decor were extremely loud and ugly. There was a gap between the door and the door frame that allowed the light from the hallway to shine in all night. The draperies would not close all the way which left a gap of about 2 inches. So no matter how you tried to close them they did not meet, so it allowed the light from the parking garage to also shine through. I will never stay here again.” Aug 23, 2009 by
Douglas from Castle Rock,CO
“Well located, boutique, somewhat overpriced for size of rooms. Very friendly and helpful staff.” Jun 13, 2009 by
Elisha from Rock Springs,WY
“We were put on floor 7 which was for travelers with pets which I am allergic to. Room was very small with only a drain in the floor for a shower. Asked to be moved to another room with tub and room had dog dishes and bedding still on the floor!” May 29, 2009 by
Amanda from Wendover,UT
“We absolutely loved our stay at the hotel Monaco. We had a romantic room with a great view on the 12th floor. The room was beautiful and very un-hoteley (I know that's not a word!). We will stay there again!” May 10, 2009 by
Susie from Rock Springs,WY
“It was an adventure not your ordinary hotel.” May 6, 2009 by
Reed from Rock Springs,WY
“No airport shuttle! Thats not an a 3+ upscale hotel! Had to pay an additional 30.00 for a cab to the airport that was less than 10 minutes away.” May 4, 2009 by
Tim from Long Beach,CA
“Under construction, poorly maintained, elevators not working, lamp not replaced, old decor. terrible.” Feb 20, 2009 by
Jodie from Orem,UT
“This Hotel is Horrible! The room was so small about all that fit was the bed and not working TV, we had to walk sideways everywhere. When we asked the desk about the TV they said it would take too much paperwork to do so we were just out of luck. There is no pool and no hot tub. We felt so claustrophobic in that little room with no TV. I am so glad I did not have my kids! The room also comes with robes which are so hard you can't even try to put them on.” Sep 25, 2008 by

“Very good experience. The only thing I did not like about the hotel is that you had to pay for parking every night at $15.00 per night and valet parking was the only way to park your car. Positives, very clean, very hip decor in the rooms and public spaces. The staff was excellent.” Sep 8, 2008 by
Amanda from Pittsburgh, PA
“This hotel was lovely, well situated, and full of friendly staff. Boutique is code for small, however. And the rooms were tiny. I expect that in NYC, but in Salt Lake? There's enough room to go around! For four stars they should be larger. I did like the little touches, though, like fancy soaps, bows on various items, beautiful non-hotel curtains etc.” Sep 8, 2008 by
Michael from Dixon, CA
“You should have a disclaimer about the construction of skyscraper next door. No wonder they had rooms available.” Sep 3, 2008 by
Michael from Ottawa, ON CA
“Wow, what a refreshing experience! Something new and well above the others! There was some construction next to the hotel by this did not in any way take away from the experience. The hotel restaurant was just amazing.” Aug 29, 2008 by
Julie from Las Vegas, NV
“Wonderful little boutique in a great location to all restaurants and activities in the downtown.” Aug 27, 2008 by
Adam from Green River, WY
“This hotel is more for weekend getaways for the adult crowd. Not recommended for travel with children, items in room not appropriate for all age levels.” Aug 25, 2008 by
Sandy from Greer, SC
“The hotel was beautiful and the staff & service was absolutely perfect! The wake-up calls were a live person with a smile in their voice. Nice way to start the day.” Aug 15, 2008 by
Ralph from South Jordan, UT
“Very nice hotel, didn't want to leave the room.” Aug 14, 2008 by
Pamela from Surprise, AZ
“Good location, Clean, staff was friendly and helpful, valet parking available because there was not any parking near the hotel (cost $15) great food, but very expensive. All extras were very expensive and everything was extra.” Aug 14, 2008 by
Gary from Rexburg, ID
“Very nice hotel staff was friendly and very helpful. Everything was well maintained in our room nothing had to be called to have repaired.” Aug 6, 2008 by
Heidi from Blackfoot, ID
“I loved the atmosphere and the help was fantastic! I would stay there again, definitely. Also they seemed to enjoy helping my friend and I out with everything, from valet to taking our bags.” Aug 5, 2008 by
Bret from Benson, UT
“Make our room a utility closet.” Aug 5, 2008 by
Leanna from Rock Springs, WY
“The Hotel Monaco was very nice. We had a small room with a large bathroom. The view out of our window was a parking garage. I would stay there again - but I really missed not having in-room coffee.” Jul 31, 2008 by
Richard from Kirkland, WA
“The exterior looks bad. It looks somewhat ramshackle compared to virtually every other hotel we looked at in the area. The room was extremely small and the bed was hard. But the main problem we had with the hotel was the musty/mildew smell. After looking at the room for 3 minutes we decided to leave and find a more suitable hotel.” Jul 18, 2008 by
Rodney from Pakenham, ON CA
“Initially I was assigned a Suite on the 15th Level facing the street - great view and pleasant surroundings - the frame to the bed was broken in this Suite and I was reassigned to a Suite on the 5th Level right next to a very active and noisy construction site directly outside of the Suite's windows. When I complained with the front desk I was simply blown off and told that the construction would be a reality for the next year and a half. At the time of checkout, I again expressed my disappointment.” Jun 30, 2008 by
Diane from Seal Beach, CA
“The room was nice. I especially enjoyed the leopard print robes and use of color in the room. It was very inviting.” May 29, 2008 by
Neal from Henderson, NV
“They need a pool and better parking.” May 28, 2008 by
Christopher from South Jordan, UT
“What a gem of a hotel. Beautiful renovation of existing office building. I like the idea of recycling the structure. Some attention needed to address some of the smaller details now that the property has a few years of use behind it. Shabby is starting to show) Great staff in general, however the place didn't feel as if anyone had a sense of ownership.” May 11, 2008 by
Joane from Price, UT
“My room was beyond my expectations. The restaurant Bambara was a delightful treat and made hosting my client for dinner very special. But most of all, from the moment I drove into the entry until I was returned to my car a day later, the staff was wonderful. I will definitely make this hotel a regular for my business travel.” May 2, 2008 by
Karen from Meridian, ID
“We stayed at the Hotel Monaco in April 2008. My husband and I had our two young children (4 and 2) and stayed for 4 days. The hotel's location is great and close to a lot of fun stuff in Downtown SLC. The staff at the Monaco was fantastic, addressing us by name when calling to the front desk for items. Whenever we asked for anything, it was always delivered very quickly and by very friendly staff members. The only cons we had were the fairly high prices of the room service with an additional $2.50 "delivery fee". Also, it was not fun to pay $15.50 per day for parking and have to tip the valets every time we needed our car because the hotel's parking is valet only. I don't have a problem tipping people, but only if I choose to use the valet parking, not if I'm required to. Other than those couple of high-priced items, we loved the Hotel Monaco and had a really great time! P.S. FYI: The Hotel Monaco is a pet-friendly hotel!” Apr 13, 2008 by
Colleen from Gilbert, AZ
“We enjoyed the look of the hotel. It was clean and comfortable and decorated in a fun manner. The close proximity to the TRAX Station was convenient. However, the staff needs some better customer service skills. Especially the night staff. The fire alarm malfunctioned and went off for about 20 minutes at approximately 11:00 pm at night, causing people to come out of their rooms and worry that there was a fire. There was no staff attempting to reassure guests in the hallways or down in the lobby. Instead, just the rude clerk at the front desk stating it was a malfunction. No apologies and little reassurance especially as the fire department did arrive shortly thereafter with lights and sirens. The next morning at checkout no one apologized for the inconvenience or anything. They just acted like it didn't happen and when I brought it up they just brushed my comments aside and said nothing. I didn't think any of the staff rose to the 4 diamond level of service.” Apr 3, 2008 by
Lori from Annville, PA
“The hotel was great! I was there for fun and relaxation. I enjoyed the happy hour in the evening with the chair massages. The staff was friendly and accommodating. The only negative thing I can say is there was no public parking, valet services became expensive between the daily fee and tips.” Mar 27, 2008 by
Denise from San Francisco, CA
“This hotel provides a great base for skiing multiple areas around SLC. The staff is extremely gracious, and the little extras like good free newspapers and the daily wine hour.” Mar 5, 2008 by
Aileen from Tampa, FL
“Excellent hotel close to walking distance to downtown sites. Relaxing fireplace in lobby. Very clean.” Feb 12, 2008 by
Lacey from Shelley, ID
“It was beautiful and clean. Could be updated a bit. Bathroom door was slider and had no lock. Not many amenities included.” Feb 12, 2008 by
Rick from Price, UT
“The bathroom cold water faucet leaked badly when on and the sink would not drain. On the positive side, the restaurant (Bambara) had an excellent breakfast menu/food.” Feb 12, 2008 by
Jerry from Parowan, UT
“Good location in Downtown SLC, we have stayed in other hotels in the immediate area and felt that Hotel Monaco held their own in quality and service with a lower price that others in the area charge. The PM cocktail reception and complementary massage was a bonus for those who drink. Morning coffee service in lobby was tasty and appreciated.” Feb 12, 2008 by
Tracy from Tremonton, UT
“The decor was different and fun. Very nice. The staff were very helpful.” Feb 7, 2008 by
Tony from Pocatello, ID
“Excellent--4 star all the way. Only Valet parking is available, which costs more, and quite inconvenient.” Jan 30, 2008 by
Tom from Mountain View, WY
“They like to charge you for services that you did not receive.” Jan 24, 2008 by
Nanette from Kaysville, UT
“My husband sent me to get a good night sleep after being up with sick twin babies for 4 nights. There was a beeping sound in my room all night. My children fell asleep so I didn't want to wake them by calling the desk. I didn't sleep a wink. I went home feeling sick and exhausted. When I told the front desk when I checked out they just said I should have called during the night.” Jan 15, 2008 by
Sarah from Green River, WY
“Very clean. Staff was excellent. The food was amazing. Very enjoyable stay!” Jan 5, 2008 by
Karen from Logan, UT
“This is a great boutique hotel located in the center of downtown SLC. Only problem is construction on the south part of the building so this part of the building can be noisy.” Jan 4, 2008 by
Brian from Truckee, CA
“Fun place to stay which pushes beyond the bounds of the typical big chain, top-tier hotels. Not your typical Hilton or Hyatt. Great location in historic building filled with friendly staff.” Jan 3, 2008 by
Katie from Pocatello, ID
“It is a beautiful hotel and is located very conveniently for shopping and other attractions.” Dec 19, 2007 by
Jeff from Chubbuck, ID
“There was no parking, so you have to use valet. The room had an empty malt liquor bottle in it. The room was very tiny and the decorations were not attractive. Definitely wasn't my favorite hotel and didn't merit its star review.” Dec 6, 2007 by
Scott from Huntington Beach, CA
“This seems like a great hotel to stay at with your girlfriend or wife. The rooms are small so plan on getting out a lot. The internet was down for my whole trip making it impossible to get any work done in my hotel room. I will never stay at this hotel again on a business trip.” Dec 6, 2007 by
Kenny from Franklin, ID
“Impressed with the rooms and how Friendly Staffing was. Great place! Will stay again.” Dec 4, 2007 by
Claudia from Aurora, UT
“Everything but the parking was excellent. The staff the restaurant and the rooms were great. But was not informed about the parking charge.” Dec 3, 2007 by
Patrick from Phoenix, AZ
“Very nice hotel. Small chain with character. Allows pets (!).” Nov 26, 2007 by
Greg from Salt Lake City, UT
“Overall a great hotel. Not my first choice for a family stay (no pool), but staff was attentive and friendly.” Nov 21, 2007 by
Kelly from Price, UT
“We enjoyed our stay at the hotel Monaco. Our 9-year-old daughter loved the 'guppy love' program. They put a black molly in a beautiful glass bowl in our room for the night. The room was comfortable, although our mattress was way too soft for our tastes. The extra little touches, such as the Kleenex folded like a flower on the top of the box in the bathroom, the upscale soaps, mints on our pillows with turndown service and the luxurious robes were all nice additions to our stay. I heard some people in the lobby complain that their room was small but we had a corner room that was spacious enough for my husband, me and our daughter. The only drawback was at breakfast we were seated at a table meant for four and we were a party of five. The wait staff turned the table sideways in the middle of the aisle and this meant that my husband and father in law were seated with their backs against the booth behind them, and my mother in law and my self were pushed up against the wall behind us. The wait staff had to actually circle around the restaurant in order to serve us, and the table was so small that our plates, cups and glasses couldn't even fit on the table. I am not sure why they chose to seat us this way. The restaurant was not even close to being busy and there was plenty of room. My husband was so uncomfortable and unhappy that he didn't order anything but coffee and ended up leaving the restaurant. We would stay at the hotel again, but probably wouldn't eat at the restaurant, although the food was good.”
