• Very attractively decorated with wash bowl separated from toilet/shower area.
• There was no breakfast or late afternoon food available without travel.

“Very elegant and pleasant to stay in as well as to meet with friends in foyer areas. There was no refrigerator available in room.”

• Nice lobby, friendly staff, lots of parking.
• No free breakfast.

“This is a site for conventions, large meetings, so it could be very busy at times, but it was quiet when I stayed. The equipment in the fitness room could be better and the room is a bit cramped, but the swimming pool was big and the lobby and meeting facilities are nice.”

• Very clean, comfortable and well-decorated room.
• The phone in my room was old and the reception was crackly.

“I was overall very satisfied with this hotel. The bed was very comfortable, the room was neat and clean with modern decorating. I enjoyed the delicious bath and body works complimentary shampoo and conditioner. The fitness area had a good variety of machines to use. I dined at the hotel restaurant and was very pleased with the sandwich I ordered.”

• The hotel was aesthetically pleasing. It was comfortable, the beds were very comfortable Quiet.
• Pillows are too soft. There was no continental breakfast.

“Great place to stay whatever the reason your travel takes you to Helena, Montana. Clean good parking. Location ok, but had to find it as it is out of the way a bit. Overall, good place to stay.”

“The Red Lion Hotel in Helena, MT was quite a disappointment. It did not feel like a 3 star hotel at all. Even the Holiday Inn or Ramada chains I've stayed at were much better. The TV appeared decades old, the restaurant was a disappointment and the overall feel of the hotel was that it was not properly maintained (it appears to have been built around the 1970s). The hotel did have two pools, meeting facilities and other amenities which I did not utilize and the staff was very friendly and helpful. The location was ideal for my needs however; I doubt will not be returning to this hotel.”

• We had a nice quiet room.
• While the hotel is close to the freeway, it is not close to the main part of town.

“This was a good value for the money. The room was very clean and well maintained and decorated. Very helpful staff. Had a laundry room which is always a plus.”

• Front desk was great, the rooms were very quiet.
• I neglected to remove the do not disturb sign from the door and the room wasn't cleaned.

“Older property, well maintained, indoor and outdoor pools, nothing fancy, but very comfortable and quiet. We made do with air mattresses and sleeping bags, were very comfortable, actually, but that wouldn't have worked with adults, as opposed to kids. We needed 2 queens.”

• Staff at this hotel were very rude, reflected in front desk, concierge, housekeeping and restaurant.

“After a long night of traveling the staff were very insensitive and very difficult. Dining room and front check in were extremely rude.”

• Pool/hot tub & stair case at entryway.

“Decent location close to interstate. All of staff friendly & helpful accepts one who is rude on phone and in person. Lobby is decorative with nice arched stairway & furnished to invite guests to sit and enter into casual conversation over coffee & local paper. Dinning was closed for the holiday (at a hotel?) rooms where out dated & small but clean.”

• The location was excellent. Hotel room was very comfortable.
• It was not as sound proof as I would have liked.

“Over all this hotel was very nice and I would probably stay there again. The rooms were comfortable with good mattresses and nice bathrooms. The hotel was close to the main highways and accessible to just about anywhere in the city. The rooms however were not as sound proof as I would have like. Noise from the hallway woke us up.”

• The design of the room was unique. Different from the average design.
• There was a group of kids staying there that were really loud. I did call the front desk at 11:30 p.m. And asked them to quiet them down. They did.

“Very clean and comfortable. I had no complaints other than the noise level due to other kids staying there.”

• Very nice, the bedding was so comfortable; I really didn't feel like I was in a hotel.
• Not a real crib with linens just a cheap pack-n-play.

• Red lion is the only real full service hotel in Helena Montana.
• One of the cable channels had a weak signal with poor audio.

“I try to stay at the red lion as often as I can, many of the other hotels in the area are higher in price and offer less features. Why pay more to stay at a two star motel when you can get nicer rooms, great beds, room service, a pool and more at the red lion.”

• The beds were wonderful to sleep on.
• Disappointed with lack of noise dampening between rooms.

“Overall, I was satisfied with the stay except for 3 points). 1) Our first room was disappointing because we could hear the couple next door very clearly as they romped in bed and as they talked. The noise separation between rooms was more like what I would expect in a cheap motel. The staff did move us to another room (upgraded to a suite) when we explained the problem. 2) The move was fairly timely but the room was cleaned quickly and they missed the toilet (skid marks in the bowl). 3) They don't appear to enforce their No Smoking rule very strictly - woke up to the strong smell of cigarette smoke twice.”

• The beds were extremely comfortable with great pillows. The bathroom towels were plentiful and very soft. Drapes kept the light out!
• Staff at check in counter could have been friendlier.

• The beds are the best I have ever slept on in any class hotel in any city.
• The wireless internet service is better in some rooms than others.

“The Red lion colonial hotel Helena is one of the only full service hotels in Helena. The rooms are always clean and the beds are the most comfortable I have ever slept on with plenty of pillows. The one thing that would make the room perfect is a fridge and microwave for business travelers, but there is a full service restaurant with room service and there is a very nice lounge.”

• Clean, comfortable, inviting. Friendly, professional staff.
• The restaurant had very poor food and very poor service.

“The rooms and grounds were clean, inviting and comfortable. I would certainly recommend this hotel to a friend and would stay here again myself. However, stay clear of the restaurant! As it appears the rest of the hotel has been updated and remodeled, the restaurant had broken seats and was falling apart. I could deal with the poor appearance if the food was good, but it was terrible. Our table ordered three dishes and we did not eat anything. We ended up at the McDonald's down the street because our kids were hungry. Also, the service in the restaurant was quite poor. Too, bad because the hotel itself was very nice and friendly.”

• Front desk service was great.
• Automatic cancellation of rooms with very late arrival.

“We arrived at 2:00 a.m. and the room had automatically canceled. The front desk manager immediately reinstated the room. He noticed we had younger children with us and asked if we would like two queens instead of one king (someone was sleeping on the floor). He immediately changed to two queens so we all had beds. Further he arranged for late check out and room service to be performed after late checkout. I've walked into five star hotels in NYC and not have the front desk take care of these items without me inquiring. Nice hotel, guest services are on top of things.”

• The Red Lion is a great hotel with generous well apportioned rooms.
• It is not super convenient to the freeway off ramp, but it's not so hard to find.

“The Red Lion is one of my favorite places to stay for a reasonable price. The rooms are nice and clean with a little touch of class compared to other hotels within the same classification. My family loves the indoor and outdoor pool area.”

• It was convenient, clean and spacious with staff that was friendly, professional and accommodating.
• It was all good.

“The red lion handled my reservation professionally and efficiently from when I called to request a room with 2 beds to the late check out that we required. The hotel itself is tastefully decorated and spacious both in the lobby and including the actual room. Everything was clean. The bonus of having bath & body works soaps and shampoos etc was a treat. The kids enjoyed the indoor and outdoor pool and we enjoyed being close enough to the pool to supervise. It was a great stay!”

• Hot tub was not hot, No continental breakfast.

“Nice place but I don't travel much and We really looked forward to soaking in their hot tub and it wasn't hot (Luke warm because they had just cleaned it?) so that kind of ruined our stay there. We don't eat much and most motels have a small continental breakfast but they only offer a full scale restaurant. A bagel and juice would have been nice. Not really interested in staying there again. Wasn't bad, just not good for us.”

• I enjoyed the comfortable beds, and the pool and hot tub.
• The lady that checked us in was very sick with a cold and should have taken the day off- it was gross.

• Main pool is heated yet feels slightly cooler than room temp.

“Overall, this is the best full service hotel in Helena MontaNA Rooms are plentiful and comfortable, especially the beds which have excellent mattresses and extra pillows. Internet access, indoor and outdoor pools plus hot tub and exercise room, restaurant and lounge, great for families and business travelers. Why pay more to stay somewhere else and get fewer amenities.”

• The mattress was comfortable.
• No hot water at 9:00pm.

“The normal rate they charge for their rooms is undeserved. There was no hot water at 9:00pm for a shower. Other restaurants give at least a snack for breakfast, they want you to go into their restaurant and pay even more. The girls at the desk seem to hate their jobs. I feel they need to lower their price by $20 for this.”
