• Big bed, couch area.
• Bad cable choices, lumpy couch, bad 70's carpet.

“This is a great family-friendly hotel. There are patios in some rooms and a parking garage. It is close to the street and the I-15 and has internet access in both the lobby and free wireless in the rooms.”

• The staff was exceptional!
• The beds were not great.

“The hotel staff was very friendly and respectful. Everyone from the custodians to the front desk greeted us and made us feel welcome. The hotel was a little old, but clean. The beds could use updating.”

• The staff was very friendly and helpful, brought bags to my room, and necessities provided by hotel.
• There was not enough parking for the amount of people staying at the hotel. We had to park in guest parking.

“Pool was heated, which made it nice to swim in the evening. Staff was friendly and helpful. Free internet access was nice. All rooms have a sliding glass door. Bottom floor room doors led to parking, upstairs rooms all had a nice balcony.”

• Didn't think the hotel was a three star. It was more on the older side.

• The cleanliness of the hotel. It was very well kept.
• The continental breakfast was a little expensive.

“It was a nice stay for us. The hotel was very clean and orderly. The staff was nice and we enjoyed the proximity to Starbucks and other businesses. It was also very nice to find the freeway entrance be so close.”

“The bed was uncomfortable and noisy every time we moved. It has other amenities such as the fridge/microwave, couch and hair dryer, soft towels, I still expect a decent bed when staying in a 3-star hotel.”

• The Holiday Inn Rancho Bernardo is a decent hotel that is showing it's age. Once the facilities could've been 3-star, but that is no longer the case.
• The smell of cannabis (pot) wafted through the corridor near my room. The room smelled and the toilet was in poor condition.

“The Holiday Inn Rancho Bernardo should be considered a 2-star facility. The overall condition of the hotel smacks of early-nineties amenities that are getting threadbare in appearance. On the contrary, a sister facility located in Miramar reflects a true 3-star hotel, despite their dreadful breakfast service facilities. Overall, I will give Rancho Bernardo one more try but do not expect any improvements in the interim.”

“Pros - close to SD Wild Animal Park, friendly staff, free breakfast was good. Cons - old and definitely not upscale, not 3 star, main door leading into the building required swiping room key but was bypassed at times, bed not comfortable, room sliding door faced gas station next door.”

• Hard mattress, room looked dingy, hear guest above me, no maid service the first day,.

“The hotels has an excellent location but the hotel is showing its age. The carpet in the room was filthy, the mattress was hard as hell and the first day maid service did not arrive until 3:30 PM. The staff was polite and helpful.”

• AC didn't work in room or hall ways, spiders crawling in room.

“Cleanliness of the hotel wasn't even close to what I was expecting, I had a spider crawling over my room by the bed headboard, kids were running around yelling and screaming until about 1 am that night and back up the next morning at 6 am or so doing the exact same thing.”

• The microwave and the mini refrigerator in the room.
• They lost my clothes for a couple of hours, the closeness to the freeway, the condition of the building, the intrusiveness of the cleaning staff.

• Breakfast in the morning is great and so are all the extra pillows.
• The bed was varying hard and you could feel the coils.

“Breakfast in the morning is great for a buffet. The hotel is far from the Downtown area of San Diego, but fine if you are doing stuff around north county too. The worst part of the stay was the beds, they were hard and you could feel the coils. Otherwise they have some new staff that was very helpful and friendly.”

“This was a very nice room. It had all the standard amenities and was quite spacious. I only called upon guest services once, but they responded and completed my request immediately. Overall, I think it lived up to it is three-star rating.”

• The staff was wonderful- very friendly and accommodating. The lobby and breakfast area were small but very nice.
• The beds were hard as rocks! Not a very comfortable night's rest. The carpets could use a shampoo.

“The hotel was very convenient to the freeway, was generally clean and the staff was absolutely wonderful- friendly and helpful! The beds were dreadfully uncomfortable. While not the most upscale hotel, it was an alright stay at a reasonable price.”

• The rooms and hallways were outdated. Needs updating.

“While this Holiday Inn was conveniently located, clean, and provided a great continental breakfast, the hotel room was outdated. The hallways were also outdated. The wireless internet had a poor signal as it appeared the wireless router was not strong enough to reach our hotel room.”

• Shear drapes; that didn't darken room; park lot security light kept me up.

“Staff barely spoke English at desk; they were not responsive to my complaint about the lack of appropriate drapes. The shear drapes did not provide privacy or keep the lights from parking lot out of our room. I could not sleep; also thermostat was not adjustable so room was a muggy 78% or higher all night.”

“It should not have been rated a 3-Star, but rather a 2-Star. While looking at my paid reservation on the screen, the front desk representative insisted that I booked two rooms and 1 needed to be paid for immediately, and had asked for my credit card without even telling me that she had intended to charge me for an additional room! They in no way honored my Priority Club membership, and it took the Manager to come over and after much discussion, decided to cancel the other room. There was exposed plasture around the bathroom sink, the room did not feel very clean (I wore my socks & shoes the entire time). Even the TV remote did not work properly (except for the Power button and Pay Per View movies).”

“Previous reviews adequately described the + and - that we found to be very true. A place to sleep, no bells or whistles, no patio, no room w a view. Some minor issues we opted not to bring to managements attention. It worked for us for two nights. Would not have stayed a third.”

• I was not pleased with the hotel at all.
• The staffs lack of courtesy and disregard for our comfort.

“Although I called in advance to advise that I was traveling with children and needed my rooms to be joint at the time of arrival I was told that they had one room on one end of the hotel and the other room completely on the other side I asked the clerk if there were any other rooms close by where they could place us since they couldn't accommodate me with the joint rooms and he very clearly said no other rooms were available. My sister in law which also stayed in the same hotel who also checked in along side of me got a room 1 door down from one of the rooms that had been given to me I swapped with her in order to be close to my children, on the same night after checking in we walked down to the pool with the children and there were no towels in the pool area at about 7:35 pm. My sister in law walked up to the front desk which directly overlooks the pool and requested some towels at 8:15 after waiting over half an hour for them I walked up to the front desk and asked for towels again, at 9:10 when we left the pool area we still had not received the towels we had requested we asked our husbands to bring down towels that we had brought along for the trip. I personally rate this hotel a zero.”

• The distance and commute to and from places we were visiting.

“Our rooms sliding glass door had a broken frame. Not that big of a problem unless you are on the first floor. We were on the first floor. The maintenance crew is not maintaining the facilities.”

• Rooms are very nice and staff was always glad to help us with any questions. The Breakfast was also great!
• Need more space for the dining area at the continental breakfast, more towels at the pool and more parking.

“Great hotel! We really enjoyed our stay in the San Diego area. We were celebrating our anniversary, and my graduation! We relaxed and had a good time!”

“Mattress are old and needs replacement. I stayed in room and the bath room door opens inside in a weird fashion - hard to get in and get out - need to squeeze ourselves to go in. Excellent free breakfast (Worth $15.00 - $20.00/person), Kudos for their handwork and talent- Sad to see that no one (who eats this free breakfast) provide generous tips (at least 10%). I would recommend this place and would consider again in near future.”

• In each room, there is a small microwave and a mini refrigerator, which is convenient for travelers who are tired of restaurant food.
• Large groups of kids, adults who were noisy. Mix up in room assignment when staff did not know where my belongings were. Quite upsetting.

“It is a nicely decorated chain hotel with extra amenities such as a refrigerator and microwave in each room. It shows it's age in the stained ceiling tiles, peeling wallpaper and chipped tiles, but the staff keep the place neat and clean. The free breakfast is nice, but baked goods are dry and the eggs undercooked. The tables are sticky after the first batch of diners arrive. It is a good two and a half star hotel, that still tries to keep it's customers satisfied. However, it is large enough and casual enough that noisy groups of travelers present a problem to travelers who want a quiet and peaceful place to stay and a good night's rest.”

• The location and the atmosphere of the hotel was pleasant.
• The refrigerator and air conditioning were very loud and the iron did not work.

“I would recommend this hotel for a short trip. I wouldn't recommend it for a family or long term travel. I would have like them to have room service at night. There were not very many restaurants around the area. The bed was very comfortable and I like that the bathroom vanity was separate from the room.”

• Pool area looked dirty and not maintained.

“The room itself was pretty good. The service was not great. We requested towels for the pool and were never sent any. The next day we requested another blanket and pillow around 8 pm and didn't get it until after 11 when we had already settled down. The free breakfast was more that you would expect and pretty tasty.”

• Amenities in the room, good for families, security key code.
• Had to ask for toilet paper in the beginning. Room was not properly stocked.

“We enjoyed and it was nice. The security key code to get into our area at night made us feel very safe. Loved having refrigerator and microwave, especially with kids. Nice complimentary breakfast.”
