• Shuttle service provided by hotel was excellent.
• Hotel needed remodeling, lights did not work, leaks.

“The personnel at the hotel were extremely accommodating and the shuttle service was excellent. The rooms, however, were old and in poor shape. Lights did not work; faucets leaked, bedcovers were threadbare with cigarette burns. I would rate this at best as 2 stars with 1 star more likely. The location is excellent for cruise and airport travel.”

• The room was large, windows could open for fresh air and the shower was hot.
• A lot of noise from neighbors, people on balconies and door slamming.

“The hotel was okay for the price but noise from other rooms after 10 pm was a bit much. There was also a convention of teenagers one night who ran up and down the balconies past midnight. My door was very hard to close, as others must have been, because the door slamming from adjacent rooms throughout day and night was aggravating.”

“The hotel was ok and truthfully, for the price, I cannot complain too much. The continental breakfast was very good with fresh made waffles, cereal, toast, fruit, coffee & juice. When I walked in the staff was friendly and helpful although there was a sign in the corner of the lobby stating that the hotel contained harmful chemicals that have been deemed hazardous to your health. I didn't ask what that was about though. The bed was hard and there wasn't really a tub just a shower. I was lucky to get a room that had a fridge & microwave which coupled with the continental breakfast really helped keep my expenses down for the trip. The hotel could really use an investment in updating the rooms the screens on the windows didn't fit properly and the bathroom fan was excessively loud. It certainly was far from the best hotel I've stayed in, but it also wasn't the worst.”

“This was the worst experience I have ever received at a hotel before, I got in late and only stayed the night and then moved the rest of my stay to another hotel. I would not recommend this to anyone.”

“Great location and short walking distance to the gas lamp district. Good continental breakfast. All of the staff was very friendly and very helpful assisting with lost luggage from the airport. Would recommend this hotel to everyone.”

• The front desk people were helpful and friendly it is centrally located close to Downtown/on hill though.
• The hotel was not bad, but not what I expected the shower was bad had a bubble in the bottom and filled with water small rooms.

“This hotel really wasn't that bad. I got this hotel (Rodeway) and the Holiday Inn across the street. If this one is a 2 star then the Holiday Inn is a 3 star. I think this one should be a one star and the Holiday Inn a two+ it was within walking distance to Downtown, Gaslamp, restaurants and the trolley and movie theater and Ghirardellis choc store (great ice cream). We weren't in the room much and didn't have maid service while we were there because we wanted to conserve so it wasn't bad -- just the shower was an issue. Outside entrance to the rooms. No halls. Really nice desk people. Everything is on hills here, so be prepared if you are walking. Not much parking unless you want to pay lots to park.”

• Rude staff and charged for parking.

“I would not suggest this hotel. For its star rating, it did not meet my expectations. The staff was rude, and charged for parking which I was not expecting. They also tried to charge us for use of a safe which we never used, and it was inconvenient to ask to have it removed.”

• No internet capabilities, smelled dank, dark room.

“As a business traveler, the main issue was the lack of internet access. The speed was persistently so slow (1 mbps) that I could not access my e-mails, VPN network, obtain attachments, etc. The room was also dark and smelled each day like cheap, cleaning fluid. Towels were gray white although clean. The alarm clock didn't work. Walls were so thin that I could hear the TV in the next room.”

• The complementary breakfast was very good.
• The room sheets and towels did not smell like fresh that I felt they were not clean.

“Economical, however, it could have been a bit cleaner. The breakfast was really good. It is conveniently located in the downtown San Diego location. Furthermore, I paid $12 + tax for parking per day. It was a good bargain but I will not go again to this hotel due to its lacking the fresh clean feeling.”

• The pillows were nice.
• The bathroom door did not work and the shower flooded the bathroom. The bed was uncomfortable.

“First, it wasn't incredibly horrible. The pillows were comfortable and the heater worked. The breakfast was not bad and we felt safe. We ended up staying in the handicap accessible room, which turned out to be a nightmare. The bathroom door was a heavy sliding door, we could get it closed, but it took both of us to get it open.”

• It was close to Downtown. It wasn't in walking distance though.
• The elevator did not smell good, neither did the rooms. I did not feel that the hotel was very clean.

“The hotel was a good place to sleep; we did not spend any time there during the day. I don't think it would have been a good place to relax. There wasn't enough parking because apparently the hotel sells parking to neighboring business people. We also had to pay $12 a day to park, an expense we did not expect. We had to park in the underground garage where the security gate didn't work and walk about a half a block. The rooms were dated and could use a good cleaning.”

• Firm bed, perfect size pillows, good price for almost any Downtown.
• Got the ADA room with the roll in bathroom.

“Decent breakfast, walk to restaurants and bars, parking is 12 bucks extra. It is a motel, with direct outside access, and my room was ADA modified and a bit austere. But hey, I got it at a good price and I have traveled all over the world and stayed at everything from remote hostels to European 5 stars. Slept like a log, caught the shuttle to the airport right on time, and I can't complain!”

• It was very clean, had a free airport shuttle, and free continental breakfast.
• I could not get an itemized bill for my accounting records; the morning desk clerk was rude.

“The hotel was very clean. The afternoon and evening desk clerks were cordial and helpful, although the morning clerk was quite rude on all three occasions that I spoke with him. Although I prepaid my bill, I expected to get an itemized bill with credits for the prepayments. The only items for which the hotel would give me an accounting were my telephone calls and use of the safe in my room. This is not an adequate accounting for tax purposes.”

• The continental breakfast was good.
• There complimentary shuttle was over 40 minutes late for our requested time and they made no real effort to make up for it.

“The rooms were good and decently priced for the area. It is well located to freeways and downtown. Their customer service was lacking and the punctuality of the shuttle service was extremely poor. They were nice enough to allow an earlier check in time which was good.”

“Our room was comfortable and clean, the wireless internet was fast, the location was close to the freeway and easy walk to the Gaslamp district. I would definitely stay again, probably in Room 225, which seems to have no one walking past.”

• It is very close to the convention centre for the conference venue, cheap and comfortable for slow business trip.
• Could not get extension of my stay in the same hotel for the rest 2 days.

“It is very good hotel with cheap price and very close to convention centre venue for many of the conferences. It is in central place in down town where you feel very comfortable to stay and walk down to your place of interest very easily. Also the transport system like shuttle, trolley and cab are few blocks away only. The people at the reception desk are very helpful and concern. Best of luck to the people working for the hotel.”

“This was a horrible hotel, the beds were horrible and the bathroom was very small. I had to bend my knee almost to the ground to have the top of the shower hit my head. Standing the shower was at chest level (I'm 5'10). The hotel is in a dumpy part of town and there were transients sleeping on the property. The clientele for the hotel was also horrible. Do your self a favor and spend the extra $20 for a nicer hotel. This one is a dump and should be leveled.”

• The bathtub/shower was a joke; mold in bathroom.

“Parking fills up too quickly and the overflow is down the street; Bathtub is 1/2 size of a normal one (length) and the ceiling clearance in the bath is around 72 inches (I am 72" tall, or 6'). When you turn on the bathroom light, a noisy fan turns on too, no way to have the light stay on in the bath without the noise of the fan. Room was on top floor, 2 doubles, would have preferred queens. Not a pleasant place to stay.”

“I visited two hotels on here and they both were great. I booked a 1 star and a 2 star hotel and they both were great. If you are trying to save money do not hesitate to get a 1 star hotel because these hotels are all in a great conditions.”

• Beautiful space. Very friendly staff. Nice rooms and comfortable bed. Great location.
• Internet access definitely needs some work.

“Everything that was downtown was very expensive so we went with the Rodeway Inn and Suites. I am from San Diego so I was surprised to find this hotel in such a desirable location. It is a few minutes from the airport and a short walk from the Gas lamp district. Upon checking in we also found the staff to be very friendly and warm. The room itself was very clean with great air conditioning and cable television. We brought our own laptop because we had read online that they provided free internet access but the system was down for our entire staff and it was very annoying. But I think this would be my only complaint, if any, although it was nice to not deal with email while on vacation. Overall, we highly enjoyed staying at the Rodeway Inn and Suites and I certainly plan on staying here in the near future.”

• It was close to the freeway but you didn't feel like it was. Very convenient!
• Parking!

“We were pleasantly surprised by this hotel. It was the perfect location for us since we went to a chargers game, the beach, and the zoo. We did not have any problems with noise, and we found parking on the street especially on Sunday when the meters are free. The beds were a little firm for me, but the room was very clean as well as the parking area etc. For the price we would definitely stay there again!”

• Not enough parking and pool is not located at this hotel but the sister hotel next door.

“We stayed for two nights, and on our first night there, the toilet was dirty. We called the front desk and eventually someone came to clean it (waited 20 minutes). The rooms are pretty spacious but the shower is small! It is close to the all of the restaurants and nightclubs in the Gas Lamp district, as well as the Harbor area. The parking is limited and you have to park at the sister hotel across the street. Beware: if you have a large car, it is difficult to maneuver it in the parking lot. Also, there is no pool at the Roadway premise; it is across the street, but who wants to lug their swimming gear? Overall, it not a bad place, although you may want to call ahead and confirm that they have your room reservation (they did not have 2 out of the 3 that we booked).”
