• Nice clean rooms. Free use of the in room refrigerator. Free morning breakfast.
• Air conditioning in room worked well but was occasionally loud and woke me up.

“Good location close to gas lamp night life. Easy to walk home from a night out. Clean, comfortable rooms with free access to fridge in rooms. Great place to stay for a reasonable price.”

• Clean rooms, great air, comfy beds, extra pillows already there, 4 blocks to Horton Plaza.
• Hallways hot, small round about to unload stuff in, parking lot is cheap, but far away, need to get luggage out in round about.

“Great for a weekend traveler. We were there to see a Padres game and bop around the town the next day. There this old man who drives a big van, he'll take you anywhere in the city for only a tip, he is employed by the hotel, he was fabulous (cheap). Walking: hotel is 4 block from Horton Plaza, and 8 blocks from Padres stadium. The hotel air is super cold. Had all amenities, shampoo, extra towels & pillows already there and marked firm soft, coffee was great, had a mini fridge which was quite cold, also on Sunday morning I sat outside on our balcony to watch the San Diego Marathon go by, only caught a glimpse, but really nice to sit and relax and enjoy my am cafe. Parking is tricky, unload while in the hotel round about, parking structure is block 1/2 away.”

• There were a lot of people in town for comic con and the hotel personnel did a great job helping everyone.
• No water in the pool.

“All in all it was a great place to stay just a little far from where we wanted but still within walking distance. Very clean, staff was very nice, nice view of the downtown and partial bay, parking was a little hard for bigger cars. Had a great time.”

• Great breakfast accommodations. That's important with kids.
• $14.00 per day parking. Meter parking was only other option. Should be free for guests.

• The hotel was very clean. The breakfast in the morning was fantastic.
• Pool was small and not working. Would have liked to have known this before. Had to pay extra for parking, for their facility.

“Overall our stay at the hotel was good. The continental breakfast was excellent. Staff was very friendly and helpful and the hotel was very clean. Rooms were a good size. The negative side was that the pool was small and was not working. Would have liked to have known this before hand.”

• The weekend functions downstairs. Really noisy.

“The staff was really helpful in changing us from the room right next to the ice machine; however, the Sat. night party downstairs was really noisy. The weekend crowd noise outside the hotel made it really lousy stay for Sat. night.”

• Some of the staff was exceptionally nice and accommodating, but not all. Great breakfasts. Room size.
• Cleaning staff was very nice and happy but noisy in the morning. Pool was out of order. No spa.

• Friendly staff, enjoyed the balcony.
• The parking garage was difficult for a compact car. The smell of the carpet cleaner on the halls was a put-off.

“We enjoyed our stay of 2 days. Great staff. Although the swimming pool was empty, repairs were being made. We loved the balcony. Very convenient. We walked to restaurants, the Mall, public transportation near by. Good location.”

• The Blue Indigo restaurant staff.
• They sprayed air freshener heavily everywhere to cover smells.

“Came back to our room at 6pm on our second night there and it hadn't been cleaned yet. Understaffed. Heavily perfumed freshener sprayed in hallways and rooms was nauseating. I wouldn't recommend this facility.”

• Can't think of anything.

“This experience is in stark contrast to a recent stay at a Doubletree in nearby Del Mar. The Doubletree Del Mar was noisy, beat up, not restful, the staff was almost rude and unhelpful. The point of contention being Hilton honors frequent stay credit which it took 3 requests to get incidental charge credit for. Conversly, at the Holiday Inn Express Downtown San Diego, the staff went overboard to find my number and give me the maximum Priority Club credit. Additionally, a large free breakfast buffet, excellent service and much better room amenities make the Holiday Inn Express much better than the Doubletree Del Mar in many ways.”

• Located walking distance to Downtown, Gaslamp, trolley, restaurants-great breakfast.
• The only thing was a small thing. Not very much room between toilet and sink for me and not much on TV -bad reception on local stations.

“This hotel exceeded my expectations. I had to book a hotel on either end of my cruise and the first four days I stayed at the Rodeway Inn across the street - was not happy. Sure wish I could have been able to pick this hotel both sides of the cruise. Good size hotel rooms. I had one facing the water - just a glimpse, but what a view. The breakfast was great. The people were friendly and helpful also. It was a great stay. I would recommend it to anyone.”

“Hotel was set nicely on the top of the hill, so the downtown and partial bay view was very nice. Basic amenities, but rooms were comfortable and pretty spacious.”

• The price and the bed and clean bed (without the yucky bedspread).
• Front desk staff could have been more helpful in directing us to dining establishment.

“High end budget hotel in downtown San Diego. Caution: After 10 pm on weeknights, not much around in the way of dinner or drinks. Streets outside are pretty seedy after hours. Airport shuttle service complimentary - very nice.”

• Parking spaces are a freaking nightmare, less than 9inches to squeeze into.

• Very inconvenient parking in a poor garage.

“Very friendly and helpful staff. Older facility but well maintained - flowers being watered - painting being touched up. Clean rooms, very nice linens. The bathrooms are very small and cramped. If you have business in the immediate area it would likely be a good choice - especially if you are within walking distance. If you are in town for the convention center it is not a handy choice and the parking garage is very inconvenient for in and out travel.”

“I would give this hotel a 9+ if not for the incredible slow elevator. We waited at least 30 minutes one morning to get on the elevator. We had to have 3 different loads. One person on first load, elevator was full. Then 2 on second run, then 2 on 3rd. Elevator also would try to close when loading and when you tried to hold the doors, it buzzed loudly and tried to close anyway. My 10 yr old daughter almost got her hand caught in door trying to hold open for mom with stroller. Other than that, it was excellent.”

“Needs more internet access there was only two computers and someone was always on them. The staff was great but hard to sleep in when the grad rails outside my room where being replaced but over all I would stay again and recommend this hotel.”

“We checked in around 9:30 p.m. Only to be given flashlights and told that the power would be out from 10 p.m. Until 5 a.m. The next day. Staff was somewhat rude when we expressed our displeasure about this inconvenience. Also, we left a folder in the room and when we inquired about it were told to call housekeeping the next day as there was nothing they could do.”
