• Very historic.
• Only valet parking for $24, no self parking available.

“This hotel used to be a bank and it very historic. The lobby looks like a bank. The hotel is on the older side. Our room had a king size bed, but the overall room was very small. The shower was nice, they have nice shower heads. But the hotel is very outdated and it is hard to bring your stuff if you use a cart. The only down fall was that there is no self parking, only valet parking which costs $24 per night.”

• The rooms were small.

“I thought the hotel had an old fashioned charm to it, but it was definitely meant for business travelers. I was on my honeymoon and we had to pay quite a bit for any kind of upgrade and then they only put one bathrobe and set of slippers in our room. We ordered room service for breakfast, but they piled all the food on one little tray so we had to eat at the desk, plus the waffles were cold. I've never had room service where they didn't bring in a small table. The room was very small, basically just a bed a tub and a desk. My mom stayed at the Sheraton down the street and if it weren't for the Jacuzzi tub we would've switched rooms with her!”

• The staff was personable, housekeeping came within 5 minutes, the bathroom was huge with the best shower ever in a hotel.
• The parking was a block and a half away and cost $10.00 an hour after 6:30 AM.

“We really liked this hotel. The staff was very personable and helpful. Housekeeping came within 5 minutes to service our needs at 5:00 AM. The room was nice and extremely quiet. The bathroom was huge with the best shower that we have ever experienced in a hotel here or abroad! The only disadvantage was that the parking was 1 1/2 blocks away.”

“We were very impressed with this hotel. It was very clean and quiet and the staff were amazing! As others have mentioned, parking is expensive but was about average for overnight parking in the downtown area. We would definitely go back.”

• Excellent restoration of an old bank building. Would stay here again in a Heartbeat.
• Can't think of a thing.

“Be sure to check out the vault level. Three vaults in a fully restored area, right down to the phone booths with seats. Remarkable. And ask for a tour of the locked areas, they enthusiastically showed us the bankers rooms and pointed out truly interesting historical details. This was simply a great place to stay.”

• Good value at an acceptable star level.
• We went on a baseball trip, and were amazed that we could not see the local baseball game on TV because they didn't carry the channel at the hotel.

“In general, very clean and fairly comfortable, although the sofa at the foot of the bed was tilted so that you slid off when you sat on it.”

• The hotel is in an excellent downtown location. Everything is close.
• They charge you $24 per day to park.

“The location is excellent, right in the heart of the Gaslamp District. Restaurants and clubs are a very short walk away. The hotel was clean and neat. It's a renovated bank building converted into a hotel. The room was above average hotel room size, but our room had no view. The staff was always courteous and prompt. We would definitively stay here again.”

“We enjoyed our stay here. The staff was very friendly and helpful. The lobby was beautiful all in marble. However, the room itself needed to be updated. It was clean but didn't match the feel of the hotel. Plus our view out our window was terrible, a high rise building under construction!”

• Beautiful lobby, excellent location, top-notch coffee bar.
• Hallways and decor were kind of spooky and a bit of a smell.

“This Courtyard by Marriott was not quite what I expected after having stayed in a stellar Courtyard by M in Anaheim that was light and bright and oh, so comfortable. This one seemed dingier, but in a good location.”

• I loved the location. We have never stayed in downtown san Diego before and we really enjoyed being able to walk everywhere we wanted to go.
• Having to pay $24 a day for parking wasn't fun. However, I do understand it a necessary thing if you stay downtown.

“We had a great time at the Marriott Courtyard - Downtown San Diego. The inside of the building was beautiful and has a great history. The coffee in the lobby every morning was wonderful. It was fun staying downtown and being able to walk everywhere we wanted to go. It's in a great location and as in all downtown cities, there were quite a few homeless people, but we were never nervous.”

• Beautiful hotel! We said WOW when we walked in! Great history behind it too. Loved it!
• $24 a night for parking was a little much. No pool, that was a bummer too.

“This was a beautiful hotel. The staff was nice and the room was clean and comfortable. Good central location to the waterfront and to Sea World the reasons for our trip. If you can't stay here go see it, the history behind it is really cool. We just loved it!”

• The 1890's architecture, the spacious and elaborately decorated lobby, the decent-sized bedrooms.
• Sluggish internet, internet filter, no separate business office.

“This hotel is beautifully restored with an extravagantly decorated lobby and has generous bedrooms. It is very centrally located, in the historic Gas lamp Quarter. The staff is polite. They did give me a somewhat tough time, albeit covertly. I had extended my stay and they tried to move my friend and I to a smaller room with one bed mid-way through our stay. After a little resistance on my part, they allowed us to stay in our room. I have to say I preferred my stay at a 2 and 1/2 star Spokane area Holiday Inn than this 3 star San Diego hotel precisely because the staff at H.I. was more welcoming of me. For business visitors the office set up is a little frustrating. It's open plan with the lobby and noisy, the internet is often sluggish and the filters prevented me from even checking my email at one point.”

• I hated everything about the hotel and I am going to tell all my family and friends to never stay at this place.
• I hated everything.

“I had to pay $96.00 to park in that hotel because they only do valet because there is no where else to park and they charge $20.00 a day for it. The first day I walk to my room and there were dirty dishes sitting in front of my door. I had the worst experience ever.”

• Location! It was very centrally located. The building was beautiful and the rooms were newly renovated.
• The valet staff was not very friendly, nor did they have much of a sense of urgency. No bellmen greeted us. We handled our own luggage.

“My first impression was not a good one. There was no bellman to great us. We had to unload our own bags and we carried them to our room. The valet was not very out going nor did they have any sense of urgency. We did not receive a welcome or greeting until we arrived at the front desk. The front desk staff was friendly. Room service closed at 10pm, we were hoping they stayed open until midnight.”

• Nearby construction was very loud one particular morning.

“This hotel was very nice. Loved the marble floors and hall ways. It really felt like an old bank and offices from the hall, but the rooms did not have the same cold marble feel. History of the hotel is interesting. Loved that they kept the original details.”

• Location was perfect for exploring all harbor side attractions, close to public transportation, beautiful architecture, warm and friendly staff.
• The tub had trouble draining.

“Having never stayed in this part of San Diego before, we weren't sure exactly what to expect. Stepping into the lobby of this facility is like time traveling back to the place where architects actually spent time thinking about the people that would be standing in line with nothing to look at every surface in the place is a study in art, line, and beauty. Around every corner is something beautifully crafted. Add to this the marvelous downtown location, ease of public transportation, and the incredibly genuine and welcoming staff, and it all combines to make this the place we will return to again and again.”

• I felt relaxed, I was greeted by the manager who gave my family outstanding service. I would go back again!
• There is no negative feedback to say.

“I was greeted properly by the attendants, and staff of the court yard. The night manager was very helpful and assured if my family needed anything he would be glad to get it for us. Since there was no roll on beds he apologized and made sure my boys had enough blankets and foam pads. He even gave us a basket with healthy snacks, bottled water, and a teddy for my 4 year old. On top of that my mother and aunt stayed next door to us and checked on them as well. Of all my years traveling with my two boys and husband this was the greatest stay we ever had.”

Valet parking is pretty expensive and their parking lot was very far away taken about 30mins to get my car back.”

• The location was amazing and the look/feel of the hotel was optimal.
• The shower layout was weird in that the curtain curved and the sink hot cold control was not easy to change.

• Everything was good.

“The history behind this 80 year old ex-bank building is great and we loved how they refurbished it into a hotel. The hotel retains a charm and homely atmosphere unlike most other hotels. The people are helpful and also ready to explain the history behind the hotel and are all very proud to work there. It is located right on the edge of the Gaslamp area.”

• Was promised a certain room with certain features, but did not receive it.

“Was extremely disappointed with the room. I was promised a room with two queen beds and a ocean view, but received neither. We had our two small children with us, and we were forced to sleep in one bed! Also they ran out of towels when we requested them through room service.”

• I was very impressed when after checking in that someone from guest services came up and brought my daughter a teddy bear, crayons, cookies.
• I didn't like the corner location, hard to get too.

“Nice and clean hotel. Friendly staff, King size bed rooms are pretty small, but overall a great hotel. Staff goes above and beyond.”

• The hotel staff was very accommodating, very friendly, and attentive. I felt very safe.
• There was no pool, and the hotel didn't seem to accommodate children.

“This hotel is in a building that was once a bank. Which makes it very neat if you like to explore. There is no pool, or Jacuzzi, however there is an exercise/weight room. The rooms are very well appointed, well lit, spacious, and very clean. The staff on all levels are friendly, and seem to enjoy their jobs. As a single mother traveling alone with children. I felt safe and secure the entire time I was at the hotel.”

• Hotel bar closes very early and no pool.

“The location couldn't be better. Close to shops, restaurants and bars as well as public transit train. The staff are very friendly and the service was great. The restaurant is only open for breakfast and supper. The hotel bar closes really early but the hotel is within very close distance of many bars and restaurants, so it was no bother. The hotel is in a very nice, historic building and is very well kept.”

• Old bank building converted to hotel. Retains old charming atmosphere.

“This is an old 1920's building converted into a modern hotel while still retaining its charm. It's conveniently located Downtown near bus and trolley lines. Staff was helpful, free internet in lobby was useful. Night manager gave us a short tour of the building, including the old bank vault. Room was clean and quiet.”

“Lovely renovated bank which still kept all the bank details in the lobby (from early 1900). Upstairs kept all old doors/marble -very nice. Parking is a problem.”

• The history of the hotel as a bank was interesting and evocative of old world San Diego. I especially liked the safety deposit room.
• I would have preferred an Olympic size swimming pool to swim laps which is my personal choice for exercise.

“On the edge of the gas lamp district, this historic bank building, fairly recently converted to hotel is comfortable and convenient to old town San Diego. The dining room is extravagant with its granite columns and ornate furnishings. I was very pleased to this unique property, close to the train station and the cruise ship dock.”

• This hotel was beautiful with all the old architecture and the staff/service was great.
• I did not like the location of the hotel and the ballet service is too expensive.

“We loved the staff and service we got from this hotel and we enjoyed walking threw it to see all the beautiful architecture. However, the parking/ballet service is $24.00 a day and the location is not that great. There are homeless people all around and lots of night clubs so it is not suitable for families with children.”
