“Due to the renovation that U.S Grant had, upgraded me to the Omni in downtown San Diego.” Mar 11, 2005 by
Alice from Boston, MA

“This is a wonderful, historic hotel with polite and helpful staff. We had a great stay there. Be sure to search for the best rates available.” Feb 20, 2005 by
Chuck from Austin, TX
“Very good for extended stay. Nice kitchen, good size rooms.” Feb 15, 2005 by
Tracy from Carlsbad, CA
“The location is perfect for getting around San Diego. The lobby and my room was well maintained and spacious. A hotel with historical charm and ambiance.” Feb 4, 2005 by
Cindy from Jordan, MN
“Although the hotel itself is a beautiful historic building, our stay overall was not a good one. Many very basic ammenities were not in working order. Our mini fridge was not working, cd player and alarm were not working, 3 phones and the only one that worked was in the bathroom, we requested wakeup calls 2 days and never recieved a call, elevators were being used for moving furniture and it took almost 20 min one day to come to our 9th floor. We were informed that hotel was closing for renovation when we arrived and had to be transfered to a different hotel on our last day. We were told that we were being transfered to one hotel and made arrangements to meet with the people we were visiting and then at the last min. transfered to a different hotel. Overall our stay at the hotel was a nightmare. We felt that we would have been treated better at hotel 6.” Jan 28, 2005 by
Linda from Fleetwood, PA
“Does not apply because the Grant Hotel will be completely different after it reopens.” Jan 27, 2005 by
Dariusz from Dearborn, MI “It is a nice place but the pictures posted on the Internet do not show the real picture of the place. One could be fooled by the pictures. NO swiming room or something to suplement it.” Jan 27, 2005 by
Cathy from Mason, OH
“Good location. Hotel appears to have been renovated 10 years ago and then not touched. Bathroom was small and not that clean” Jan 25, 2005 by
Judy from Houston, TX
“The hotel itself is very elegant and convenient. However they have plans for extensive renovation ” Jan 24, 2005 by
David from Aiea, HI
“Enjoyed our stay at the US Grant, would go back. A very good buy for the rate.” Jan 22, 2005 by
Susan N. from Alameda, CA
“The hotel was past its prime. There is no doubt that it was once a grand and elegant hotel with richly appointed rooms and a feeling of elegance. That was then. Now once you get past the lobby, the hotel is shabby and dingy. The halls are bare with light spots on the peeling wallpaper where paintings might have hung. The rooms are spacious, but in both rooms we stayed (they moved us because they didn't have a non-smoking room the first night) the furniture was chipped and scratched, the curtains were torn and stained, the comforters had burn marks, the tubs had mold in the grout, the luxurious bathrobes touted on the website were nonexistent, and the plumbing was awful. There seemed to be air in the pipes as through the night randomly there would be a howling as people in various rooms flushed or turned on the sink. The staff was minimal and the few times we called the front desk with questions, they had no answers. ” Jan 21, 2005 by
Diane from Stanwood, WA
“I was very disappointed when I arrived at the hotel only to be told that my room was not available due to plumbing problems and that arrangements had been made elsewhere.” Jan 18, 2005 by
Scott from Scottsdale, AZ
“This is a grand old hotel. It is getting readt to go through renovation starting 30 January but will reopen on the 4th of July if able. WE only had breakfast once in the restaurant but it was excellent. Nice bagle store/coffee shop out front. Right across the street from Horton Plaza and if you can't find it there, you don't want it. ” Jan 18, 2005 by
Sarah from Aliso Viejo, CA
“We had a hotel room for two nights that happened to be reserved during the california mudslides/floods. The highways out of Santa Barbara were closed. There was no way for me to get to san diego the first night. I called the hotel and they said it was no problem and that they would plan on us for the second night. When I arrived, my reservation was cancelled and the front desk clerk was not helpful at all. After getting my group together, I went back to the front desk and asked to speak to a manager. ” Jan 17, 2005 by
Fred from Hemet, CA
“The room was dirty and the bath tub had mildew growing around the top. The bath room window did not have a shade on it. The Hotel is terrible over rated.” Jan 17, 2005 by
Richard from Gresham, OR
“great downtown san Diego location Older hotel very beautiful public areas but room needed some upgrades” Jan 15, 2005 by
Steven from Sherman Oaks, CA
“Old, classic hotel in good location. Convenient to Horton Plaza, and the Gas Lamp area. Easy to walk to downtown attractions.” Jan 11, 2005 by
Amy from Torrance, CA
“The hotel is in a great location, but is not for the light sleeper. The noise from the street is loud and constant. The staff was great, but the elevators were broken and we had to use the service elevator which took a long time.” Jan 10, 2005 by
Danna from Cordova, TN
“This was a grand old hotel in an excellent area next to Horton Plaza and the Gas lamp district and only a short walk to the bay. While the hotel was very clean, it definitely needs the renovation that starts on 2/1/05. Would recommend this hotel highly.” Jan 9, 2005 by
Lawrence from Columbus, OH
“Old and historical place in San Diego and 13 presidents have stayed there.” Jan 9, 2005 by
Nitin from San Jose, CA
“Hotel lobby is good but as soon as you enter the room it seems you are staying in Motel 6 (Bed, Cleanliness, Marks all over the place).” Jan 6, 2005 by
Janet from Las Vegas, NV
“I was expecting a classic, classy hotel. instead we got a pretty rundown room with dirty windows and police sirens going off in the middle of the night.the room service was overpriced and tasted disappointing (at best). the $22 valet parking was another reason NOT to stay here, the only (small) perk was the location. you could walk to the gaslamp and the trolley system. would NEVER (ever, ever) stay here again.” Jan 6, 2005 by
Priscilla from Corcoran, CA
“Nice hotel, great location. Rooms were fine with very comfortable beds. Staff could be a little friendlier but otherwise ok. This hotel is scheduled to be completely remodeled and should be beautiful.” Jan 6, 2005 by
Mario from Leander, TX
“Location was great across the street to a beautiful mall however the staff, valet, was not too friendly.” Jan 5, 2005 by
Rose from Coarsegold, CA
“Hotel was beautiful, historical, with great ambiance” Jan 5, 2005 by
Alex from Redondo Beach, CA
“Very nice Hotel good facilities and centrally located to all attractions. However parking is not included, even at a discount and at $22/day makes this hotel more expensive.” Jan 4, 2005 by
Johanna from San Francisco, CA
“Not bad for a 3 star. The price we paid was very reasonable and the location is excellent.” Jan 4, 2005 by
Stella from Kent, WA
“ I was upset as it did not have a pool and my kids were going to be very disappointed. Our stay at the US Grant was not disappointing at all. This grand old hotel takes you back in history with grand hallways, large comfortable rooms and antique furniture. The hotel is located across the street from a large shopping complex and is at one end of the gaslight district. The waterfront is a short 4-5 block walk. We really enjoyed our stay.” Jan 3, 2005 by
Anita M. from San Leandro “Overall, the hotel was pretty nice. Just a few minor complaints: Jan 3, 2005 by
Johnson L. from Fremont “Pretty beat-up hotel. Front desk was terrible. Others were good.” Dec 26, 2004 by
Andrew C. from Ridgecrest “We arrived just before midnight and the night clerk was very nice. We went to our room and found the bed very small and would not accommodate the two of us. At our request we were given another room with a king-sized bed. It was directly over the bar and we could hear the music until it stopped. Housekeeping came by about 7:30 and 8:30 the next morning (very early for such a late arrival). We did receive further discounts for the initial small bed. The next night was uneventful. The restaurant staff and food were exceptional.” Dec 24, 2004 by
Veit P. from El Cajon “Way too noisy, there were trash trucks near by. The parking spaces were too small.” Dec 23, 2004 by
Anne W. from Apple Valley “They repeatedly attempted to charge me for the room. Otherwise the staff was responsive and helpful. The furniture was beautiful. A pool and better caulked (mold was in the cracks) bathrooms would be a wonderful improvement.” Dec 22, 2004 by
Kerry T. from Bakersfield “Great location! Shopping plaza across the street. Within walking distance to the cruise ship terminal and trolley. The beds were very comfortable, a great nights sleep!” Dec 22, 2004 by
James G. from Tucson “The hotel room was clean and fairly kept. When I arrived the air-conditioning was not working properly, the engineer came in and repaired it along with the window which would not open and the shade that would not go up. The hotel is in an old district of town and the our room had a view of an old run down hotel which was an eye sore. There was no computer center on site and the closest kinko was several blocks away--not safe to walk at night in this area. Because the hotel is in the middle of downtown San Diego the entrance to the hotel and parking is very hard to find and get to. It took me an hour to find the correct way to get to the entrance. Directions should be given to anyone before checking in.” Dec 22, 2004 by
Carol B. from San Diego “Our hotel room was wonderful. At check-in, they did not have our reservation, but the front desk staff was great and the issue was quickly resolved. I had read some bad reviews about this hotel, but was pleasantly surprised with the hotel and staff. There were three holiday parties that night and check-in, hotel stay and check-out went very smooth.” Dec 21, 2004 by
Richere F. from Downey “This hotel is old and charming. If your looking for a quiet dark room to sleep without interruptions this is not the one.” Dec 21, 2004 by
Mona A. from Irvine “The Hotel was old, dirty, and had holes in the walls and furniture. The furniture looked like it was from 1910.. all the reviews online say the same.” Dec 19, 2004 by
Michelle C. from San Diego “the hotel was undergoing some renovation so it wasn't quite what I expected. The pictures on the hotel's website were no longer accurate because of the renovation. Also, the shower head wasn't very clean....not only was there the lime/hardwater marks all over it, but there was actually "pink" mildew in the middle of it. The room air conditioning smelled mildewy....there was mold/mildew on the window sills.” Dec 16, 2004 by
Jenifer J. from Boulder City “US Grant downtown San Diego. Nice, old-fashioned. Good for adults, wouldn't suggest for active families.” Dec 15, 2004 by
Mehrdad E. from Gardena “Overall, based on the price I paid I was very happy. However, I was very afraid to stay at this hotel due to some unfavorable feedback/reviews left by some past guests of this hotel. The hotel is obviously very old. However, the lobby had a really classic look, which I liked. The service was very good by some and not so great (being that this was supposed to be a three star, hyatt-rated hotel). I heard on the review website that the rooms were awful and not very clean at all, especially based on what you would expect of that level of hotel. However, my room was fine only because I warned the hotel rep ahead of time that I had read a lot of bad reviews and wanted to make sure that I did not have a bad experience.” Dec 15, 2004 by
Frankie G. from San Marcos “My concern is that I showed up to the hotel with my girlfriend expecting to stay at a really nice place for her birthday, but when we attempted to check in we were told that the rooms had flooded and we had to be relocated to another hotel in the area. The entire process by the staff at the U.S. Grant was nothing less of rude and I felt as if I was bothering them! I was so upset, but more disappointed that not only did I not get the hotel I thought I was, but the rudeness of the staff there was something I have never experienced.” Dec 14, 2004 by
Josef S. from South Euclid “Not kept up ok. Dirty restrooms. Definitely not a 3 star level.” Dec 14, 2004 by
Grzegorz N. from Rochester “The location was great - in the heart of downtown, shopping mall across the street. However, their rooms and in general the hotel, need a thorough cleaning. Keep in mind that if you have a car, you will have to pay approx. $22 for parking in addition to the rate for your hotel room.” Dec 14, 2004 by
Charles S. from Redlands “A bit noisy- hotel could use new windows. It is downtown and street noise is expected, but windows were old and fit poorly. They kept out no noise. Parking was free- that was nice. Tons of nightlife right there and Horton Plaza just across the street. Well worth price paid.” Dec 14, 2004 by
Carol L. from Orange “I should be refunded the room fee for at least the first night. No parking available (4 xmas parties) in garage. Room right over Yard House drunken street party until morning hours. Hollering, screaming, air horns, loud laughing. Could not sleep a wink. No shade in bathroom or half of bedroom. When changed rooms the next day came back in evening - no heat only a/c. Had to have maintenance come. Could go on and on and on. They said they are starting major remodel.” Dec 3, 2004 by
Elizabeth L. from New York “The hotel was very tastefully decorated with antiques and has an ambiance of grandeur. However, the parking is very expensive, $22/day (although safe), and because of old plumbing, the faucets squeaked at times.” Dec 2, 2004 by
Anupama G. from Folsom “This was a vey good hotel and room. One thing I did not like was the parking ($22) which is quite high.” Dec 2, 2004 by
Terri T. from Irvine “The US Grant Hotel in San Diego is located in downtown area close to shopping and restaurants. It is a very popular area! The hotel itself looks a little tires but the accomodations were nice, the bed very comfortable! Would recommend it again.”
