• Nice location, very nice facility.
• They thought a medium well burger meant just a little past raw.

“The West gate is a very nice facility. Lots of time I'd be happy with a clean, well-lighted place, and the West gate far exceeded those minimum expectations. The staff were very personable, friendly and helpful. The folks at the front desk were always accessible and always helpful. The room was very clean and it was quite roomy and comfortable. I would stay here again in a heartbeat.”

• The lay out of the room, the shower, quietness of the toilet, and the soft water.
• The bed and the pillow.

• Housekeeping was extremley friendly and hotel room had a great layout.
• There was no pool in the hotel and most onsite services such as dining were expensive.

“The hotel was in a great location just by the Civic Center Trolly which is not if you are traveling without your own vehicle and need to use public transportation. We had a great view right next to the Horton Plaza Mall where we were able to get our morning coffee. The only down side was the mini fridge was not cold at all so dont buy any food that needs refrigeration. They have no in room coffee machine and they only serve coffee between 5-8 am which means you have to wake up early on vacation if you want a free cup of joe and they do not have any ice machines on the floor. So everytime you needed ice you had to call the front desk for a bucket of ice which got to be a little irriating. Lastly, the doors need to be open in a very precise way where you insert the key and turn the door simultaneously so that got to be frusturating. But if you don't mind a few little things here and there it is a really nice place to stay.”

• Location. Size of room. Comfortable Bed. Chairs for reading. Desk for computer work.

“A terrific hotel stay. Hotel location is perfect. We even walked to the zoo! Staff was friendly--every one of them--and constantly offered to help. Room had a comfortable bed, chairs for reading and a large desk for work. I recommend with no reservations.”

• Beautiful in every way, very clean, professional and helpful staff.

“My family and I were treated very good from check in to check out. The valet guys are prompt and helpful with directions. The concierge was very friendly and helpful. Overall a great vacation, and the Westgate Hotel was one of the highlights.”

• Great internet in room and free in business center
• No coffee maker, no mini bar or fridge, double bed not queen

“While this hotel had an impressive list of previous visitors it just did not give what I want when I travel. No excersise room, no pool, No coffee maker, no mini bar or fridge, double bed not queen. If you want ice a room attendant needs to bring it. When she brought the ice she was was crabby that I did not want or need turn down service.”

• Rooms are clean, decor very dressy French provincial, convenient to Horton Plaza.
• Disappointed about expensive parking fee and inconvenient if you are touring to zoo, Seaworld, mission bay, etc.

• No pool, Parking way over priced at $28 a night, street noise even on the 17th floor and there are only 19 if I'm remembering correctly.

“Older people who like chandeliers and fine dinning. Not for younger people who want a pool and more to do in the hotel.”

• The staff was very friendly and accomodating.
• The double beds were small - could've been queen size for the amount of room in the room.

“The ambiance of the place was very nice and I really found it quiet and beautiful. They do not have a pool and charge incidentals like crazy -- $20.00 p/p to use a pool inside a spa facility. I was willing to spend money for a nice facility but being nickel and dimmed to death was a little too much for me.”

• The staff were very helpful, kind and accomadating.

“The facility and the staff went out of their way to 'serve' us whenever possible. It was refreshing to have the bedding turned down each night with the candy and forecast card along with the robe layed out on the bed. That was a nice touch.”

• It had a elegant old world feel about it
• There is no pool on site but they'll let you use a local gym pool for a $20 fee

“The hotel was fairly unattractive on the exterior. The interior was nice because it had a very old European flair about it. However it did smell a bit musky in the main lobby. The room was very spacious and pleasant. Housekeeping was very attentive and quick. A minor annoyance was the fact that there are no ice machines and you have to call down to room service to have them bring ice up to your room. A major annoyance was that there was no pool onsite, the staff told us that if we wanted to go to a pool we could go to a pool at a nearby gym...for an additional $20 charge. Another upsetting fact was that the rooms have a conjoining hallway dividing rooms into sets of two and when people are in the hallway the sound is amplified and is very annoying.”

• The rooms and common areas were so opulent.
• The $28 a night parking charge and valet very busy.

“Located in the downtown area very close to the Gaslamp District, this hotel has grandeur and old world opulence. The staff is extremelly friendly and the hotel rooms were very spacious (especially the bathroom) and clean. Our room had a very small balcony that you could see the harbor from (between the buildings that is). Felt like royalty staying there!”

“Ideal hotel for people with older children. Access to night life/restaurants at Gas Lamp District is great. However, this hotel is not ideal for families with young children. There is no swimming pool and has a population of homeless people.”

• I really liked the size of the room and the size of the bathroom.
• Parking - $28 is way too much.

“Location - good to get back on the freeway to go anywhere only if you have a car. Parking is $28 a night, with no other option of parking. The mall is right next door to walk to. Noise level - sucked! Metro/trolley was right outside. Fire station close by too. Horns honking, sirens going off. Hotel room - was nice and big. I liked the fact that there was an actual balcony to open for the fresh air! The shower was huge. The decor was excellent, from France I believe. The beds were kinda hard. Had a fridge, hair dryer, and iron. The maid was excellent leaving chocolate on the bed and ice in the bucket. We didn't eat at the restaurant, there were cheaper places like Wendy's and Pizza Hut outside the hotel. This hotel needed a pool.”

on Priceline I have nothing but wonderful things to say - oops except for the tub in the bedroom was a weird and uncomfortable shape - but the other surroundings made it a small point. Thanks priceline for the

• Not very crowded. I like my privacy.
• Kind of old.

“Nice hotel, friendly and helpful staff. However, the location was not very close to any beaches and I hate valet parking. If I had known there was valet parking, I would not have stayed at this hotel. It was $28 per day for valet parking which pretty much killed the deal for me. Next time, I will probably stay a lower end hotel that I am sure doesn't have valet parking.”

• The staff from the front desk, bell boys and valets were extremely friendly and helpful.
• This hotel does not have a pool nor jacuzzi.

“The staff here from the front desk, bell boys and valets were extremely friendly and helpful. The interior of the Westgate is like stepping back in time. The decor features heavy drapes and antiques in an aristocratic European style. The rooms were large and the double sliding glass doors open wide to accept the cool San Diego breezes. Ordered fantastic gourmet soup from room service the night we got in and it arrived on a linen covered table with china and actual silver tableware. Very classy tea is served every afternoon complete with harp music.”

“This hotel is great. The staff is the crown jewel of this hotel as they are great. The food at the restaurant is phenomenal and the rooms are comfortable and clean. The amenities are very good. Overall, a great hotel for business, leisure or a romantic getaway.”

• The design features were nice. Lots of furniture in the room. Nice downtown location.
• There was a huge water stain on the bathroom/vanity floor. Made us wonder how clean the facility was.

“Not kid-friendly. The desk clerks were nice as were the valet attendants. The bellhop seemed unhappy to take our luggage up for us.”

• Staff was amazingly helpful & friendly. Initially I was concerned about my young children here, but no worries.
• Parking attendant was polite, but a bit stuffy, especially toward my young children.

“The staff was very friendly & helpful. Because of the ornate nature of the lobby, I was initially concerned that my family with small children were out of place. However, to my pleasant surprise the front desk staff, housekeeping, room service, & lead concierge were all amazing. We felt welcome, safe, and comfortable. Location was great.”

• The views from the hotel balcony (great surprise!) were incredible and the bathtub was big enough for two to romantically enjoy it.
• The parking.
  I hate valet parking, and that was the only option.

“Overall, this is a fantastic hotel, well above the 4-star rating that Priceline gave it. It was a little overwhelming for my girlfriend and I, as we had just come in from hiking along the beach and wanted to crash. Definitely a little upscale for me, but the view from the private balcony and the extremely large tub were exquisite. It was within walking distance from the Gaslamp District (if you're into that sort of place, which I'm not personally) and there was a trolley station right under the building, so you can pretty much get everything you need.”

• Beautiful and everything (like the moldings) was real, not fake or copied.
• The door was thin and it seemed like you could hear people outside easily.

“I would definitely visit this hotel again. It was beautiful and the service was excellent. The rooms are spacious and the bathrooms were very nice. It has a old style charm to it and the furnishings match it as well. I would definitely suggest this to a friend.”

• From the minute I checked in, everything was excellent. Classy hotel. Close within walking to downtown 5th street restaurants.
• $27.00 day valet parking.

“From the moment I arrived. I was greeted at valet and my bags were unloaded and brought to my room. When I was checked in the gal escorted me to my room and showed me where everything was in the room. Rooms are plenty big. Clean too, I would stay here again. Within walking distance to local restaurants, etc. The trolley is right outside the hotel. Bathrooms shampoos, etc are excellent and smell great.”

• The shower drain was slow running until fixed by engineering

“Wonderful hotel, wonderful staff. I only wish it had a better view of the bay, and be closer to the shoreline. Convenient to shopping and nightlife.”
