  • The beds were very comfortable and we had a great view.
  • We waited quite a while for someone to get our bags that they were holding. The gals at the front desk needed to be more helpful.

“My husband and I were really happy with the hotel. Nice room with a comfortable bed. Very close to shopping of all kinds, with Horton Plaza almost next door. The Gas Lamp district is very close also. My only issue was that it appeared that the front desk employees could have been more helpful. I would certainly recommend this hotel to others.”

  • Good location near good restaurants, Seaport Village, upscale mall, movies, etc.
  • Fitness room is poorly equipped and maintained. Parking is obscenely expensive.

“This hotel is extremely well situated for many activities in a seemingly safe neighborhood. Fitness room is poorly equipped and machines are not well maintained although locker room is upscale and there is a pool and jacuzzi. Parking is strictly valet and $32 a night. The hotel would be excellent for business purposes, but other than location, nothing is particularly exceptional.”

  • Extension cords, leaky shower, and the coffee.

“Do not expect extension cords to be used in a 4 star hotel. The coffee packets provided were not the right size for the coffee maker. Shower head leaked. Overall OK, but not what I consider a 4-star hotel.”

  • Great location...lots of shopping and restaurants in walking distance. Quick drive to many beaches.
  • Crazy, expensive parking (not disclosed on Priceline). Charged for WiFi (I've stayed in Hampton Inn's with free WiFi)

“Overall this was a great hotel. The pool was tiny (I think my backyard pool is bigger) but the area around the pool was nice...Deep covered area for those who want shade with comfortable furniture. The gym was good for a hotel gym. Location was great...many reviewers complained about the noise level but we found it to be quiet at night.”

  • No fridge, parking garage was not free for customers. very expensive!

“Although the room was generaly comfortable, room service menu was outrageously expensive as was parking for customers. They should incorporate their parking fee with the hotel fee so it doesn't feel like your paying the $30.00/night for parking.”

  • Old workout facility, underwear at the swimming pool.

  • Great location and within walking distance to everything.
  • Charges $9.95 a day for internet and $29.00 a day for parking.

“The hotel is nicely decorated and appeals to both the feminine and masculine side. There is a breakfast area along with a lounge and restaurant and bar. The standard king room contains a king size bed with great linens and pillows, a chase lounge, table and chair, chair with an ottoman and a side table. It also has a nice flat screen TV. One of the best features was they provided two luggage racks, a small thing I know but it's the small things that people notice!”

  • Public lobby spaces were small and spread out through a long wide hall. The front desk should be closer to the front entrance.

  • My first room was awful! It was grimy, dirty, and very used! The staff was great and moved me. My second room was much better.
  • It definitely needs an upgrade in furniture! The room only had shelving for clothes, no dressers.

“When I spoke to the staff about my disappointment, they were quick to accommodate me. My second room was less worn, but my view was much better. I would just recommend new furniture. They did have the heavenly bed and shower, which was great, but no dressers and very worn and stained carpet, desk, and chairs. I do compliment the staff as being very helpful and friendly.

  • I liked the coffee and the people were nice.
  • It was loud, sirens etc. The TV satellite went in and out which was frustrating, maid service didn't come.

“Not my favorite. I would recommend it to travelers as the location is right downtown. I wouldn't recommend it to people who want quiet or to watch TV.”

“There were red stains on the carpet, things were old and dingy and not as clean looking as we'd expect of a 4 star hotel. The parking was expensive, and the room was smelly. The experience can really be summed up by this- the hanger that the robe was hung on was broken. It's a very simple thing, but you'd think that they could have thrown that hanger away and given us one that was not obviously broken, but we weren't that important so it didn't matter. That and the carpet with the huge stains. The beds were very comfortable, however, and the location is good.”

  • The architecture was stunning. The entry foyer has two grand staircases, our room had window seats! All service is off to the side.
  • Housekeeping was marginal. The thermostats are set to automatically return to 80 degrees - regardless. The hot water faucet in the bathroom leaked.

“We arrived very late, to a warm welcome and easy check-in. Our room had two easy chairs and a big footstool, in additional to a large desk with swivel desk chair. The king-sized bed had heavy and light duvets; king-sized feather and standard foam pillows; and a beautiful leather headboard. In the bathroom there was a handy wire shelf for our shower condiments and a bar for the washcloth. The bathroom was large enough for both of us to get ready at the same time, the door slid into a pocket to save space. The closet was very large, with a safe at waist level (instead of on the floor) and plenty of hangers along with the standard ironing board and iron. The hotel was an easy walk to the Convention Center, with two wonderful breakfast restaurants (Cafe 222 and Richard Walker's) along the way and a great coffee shop (the Urban Grind) for an afternoon pick-me up. The in-room magazine turned us on to burgers at Nicky Rotten's and across the street we fell in love with chocolate. This was our second convention in San Diego and this hotel location was, in every way, perfect.”

  • Had to move rooms twice. First smelled like an ashtray; air conditioning went out in second. Third was a charm.

“Have stayed at this hotel 3 times and each time the air conditioner went out. Hotel did accommodate me with another room every time. Best feature is the location within Horton Plaza and steps away from the Gaslamp Quarter.”

  • Staff did not seem to care.

“We stayed at this hotel after getting married in nearby Point Loma, and we left for our honeymoon the next day. The hotel is very conveniently. The lobby was very nice. However, the staff was not friendly at all and it almost seemed like we were disturbing the guy at the front desk when we checked in. Not that we were expecting any special treatment, but we did not even get a congratulations or even a smile when we were obviously dressed in our wedding clothes! The elevators were very slow and the elevator lobby was very cramped when more than one group was waiting to board. I would not recommend this hotel for folks looking for a nice getaway, but it is an excellent location for business travelers, or those who do not plan on spending a lot of time at their hotel.”

“The Westin Gaslamp is a nice property but not what I would consider as a 4 tar in San Diego's Gaslamp. The rooms are strange, climate control is just about useless, and the elevators slow during prime time. The staff was amazing! Big points for that and those Westin beds. Nothing better.”

  • It is directly next door to Horton Plaza / Shopping Mall, restaurants.
  • $29.00 a day valet parking. There is nowhere else to park, nowhere.

“The Hotel is very nice. The smell of White Linen air freshener when you walk into the lobby. The Hotel is very clean, nice. I would definitely stay in this hotel again. The shopping/food is great. On the downside, the $29.00 per day parking is a little steep. There are no other parking options, and it's valet, so you have to tip every time you come or go.”

  • The rooms were very beautiful, and the location was great.
  • The staff was rude. Every single interaction with the staff was negative.

“The Westin is in a great location, and is a very beautiful hotel. Unfortunately, the staff is more appropriate for a 2 star hotel. The desk clerk was rude, valet service was slow, the valet gave us horrible directions, room service forgot part of our order and then brought us the wrong replacement. We waited 15 minutes for the elevators before giving up and taking the stairs. Walls and doors are thin - you can hear your neighbor's conversations.”

  • Wonderful staff, very nice and welcoming.
  • Very thin walls, we woke up several times to screaming kids and yelling parents and vacuuming in the next door rooms.

“It was a beautiful hotel. The staff was very nice and welcoming. We were celebrating our 10 year wedding anniversary and thought the hotel was very nice. I do have to say I was very disappointed to be woken up at 6am by screaming kids and yelling parents. The walls were so thin we could hear vacuuming next door as well.”
