“Disappointed with this hotel for a weekend stay for family of four. Advertised as 4 star hotel in San Diego but the room we were given was small, the floor we stayed on did not have an ice machine (we were told the closest ice machine was on the floor below us) we requested a two bed room but were told they had only king rooms available at check in, told we could have a roll away bed sent up right away. Wanted two but only allowed one because of limited space in the room. Had to ask about the roll away bed again at midnight because it had not yet arrived (maybe someone at front desk forgot to set that up for us after we checked in). No room service available at this hotel. Pool area is very small. Overall hotel is very clean and well kept. Would not recommend this hotel for families, good for business travelers and singles.” Aug 12, 2009 by

“Clean, convenient, well-located, and offering a complete array of services and a great in-room workspace, it was exactly what I needed. I'd definitely use this hotel on my next San Diego trip.” Aug 7, 2008 by
Melissa from Lake Balboa, CA
“Our room was awesome. We had a great view of the city and the ocean (totally unexpected!). There was a car accident one night and we got front row seats to all the action. I had a great experience, we loved the hotel and everyone was great and very helpful.” Aug 7, 2008 by
Tara from Westminster, CA
“This is a perfect hotel for family travelers that want resort comfort and quality but perhaps don't have the resources to pay luxury rates. Westin provides a trusted and consistent high level of quality and service. All the personnel were friendly and professional. We enjoyed our stay and found it a great fit for our family getaway in San Diego. We were close enough to downtown to walk, but not in the heart of too much chaos, which works out well for having children. Downtown can get quite rowdy.” Aug 6, 2008 by
Holly from Brawley, CA
“Our room was very comfortable, we loved the beds, the shower, the HDTV, the location.” Jul 21, 2008 by
Lori from Overland Park, KS
“This hotel catered to our needs in all ways. It is within walking distance of the embarcadero as well as Horton Plaza. Every request was met with a smile and a helpful manner. I would absolutely recommend a stay at the Westin San Diego for any travelers.” Jul 16, 2008 by
Jim from Big Bear Lake, CA

“I was very pleased with the hotel. It was the best room we've stayed in for many years.” Sep 25, 2007 by
Jake from Anaheim, CA
“The Westin is a great hotel. We had an excellent view of the city and the harbor. Staff was friendly and quick to help. Room very well kept and very attractive, although window could have been cleaned better. Very, very quiet. Having to cross a street to get from parking to hotel is a minor inconvenience, but I guess to be expected given the crowded conditions of downtown San Diego. Would definitely recommend.” Sep 6, 2007 by
Alice from Montebello, CA
“Had the opportunity to dine in restaurant; not much of a selection (lunch); however delicious.” Aug 28, 2007 by
Jordan from Nashville, TN
“This hotel is geared much more to the needs of the business traveler than the typical vacationer. Location is good (central to the main office district) and within walking distance to the Gas lamp Quarter, Horton Plaza and the Embarcadero waterfront area. Rooms are decently outfitted but the decor is rather cold and sterile. Many rooms overlook the central atrium rather than an actual outside view, which may not appeal to all guests. The only hotel-provided parking option is valet at $27 per night. There was a long wait for guests to retrieve their cars on the Sunday morning we stayed at this Westin. Better to park on the street for free on the weekends.” Aug 27, 2007 by
Jeff from Corona, CA
“I would definitely stay at this hotel again. Self parking seemed to be an issue however valet is always an option. Very train station close.” Aug 23, 2007 by
Mark-Alan from Bakersfield, CA
“Don't get confused while looking for this hotel. There are two within blocks of each other. This one is west and closer to the bay. There were smiling faces and helpful bodies everywhere. Car valet was immediate and within 5 minutes we were on our way to our room. A king sized bed, writer's desk, plasma TV and a nice sized room. We had a great view of the bay, even though the windows were quite dirty. We ventured outside to find we were within a couple blocks of the tram, bus and train services. There were many nearby attractions and eateries. I had to do a download of my modem for work and I was getting bumped off the phone while trying to do this in my room. The front desk actually took me into their office and let me use their dedicated fax line to accomplish this task. How's that for customer service! We will return to San Diego and hopefully to the Westin San Diego. This will be a great memory to share with others.” Aug 19, 2007 by
Mrs. R. from San Diego, CA
“The staff was very helpful and friendly. They tried their best find us a room with a great view. It is a non smoking hotel so for our anniversary we had brought some candles but we could not use them in our room, because they offered to gather up their battery operated candles from the lobby and send them to our room. That was nice of them to go out of their way just to make us feel special on our anniversary.” Aug 15, 2007 by
Megan from Barstow, CA
“We had an excellent stay. The staff and the room were beyond expectations.” Aug 15, 2007 by
Michael from Los Angeles, CA
“Overall, Im happy with the service.” Aug 2, 2007 by
Elizabeth from Yucaipa, CA
“The girl at the desk did take the charge off for our dinner, which was much appreciated, as we did not enjoy our meal and waited an hour and a half for our food. So I would tell someone to stay there, but not to eat there.” Jul 29, 2007 by
Jim from Bakersfield, CA
“Overall the wasting was a nice hotel. The computers were down when we arrived so we could not immediately check in. The desk clerk did offer refreshments while we waited. The worse part was the parking. It is located in downtown San Diego, where parking is scarce, and we had to pay an extra $25/day for valet parking. Also, it would have between nice to have free internet access while at the hotel. On the other hand, the concierge was helpful in obtaining tickets to the us midway aircraft carrier museum. The room was nice but not exceptional. The hotel's strength was its staff. Overall a good hotel for the price.” Jul 29, 2007 by
Gregory from Lake Forest, CA
“This hotel was ok but not worth the price charged for the room. Parking is only available with valet service for an extra $25.” Jul 18, 2007 by
Becky from Glendale, AZ
“Excellent choice, close to most activities that we wanted to participate in. (walking distance) Very accommodating staff, beautiful hotel, very nice exercise room.” Jun 14, 2007 by
Geroge from El Paso, TX
“The hotel was in a perfect location. We walked to dinner and the area felt safe and comfortable. The room was very comfortable and we enjoyed the best night sleep. It was a great weekend get away and will love to do it again. Staff was more than friendly.” Jun 7, 2007 by
Jilbert E. from Los Angeles, CA
“This hotel provides horrible service, the hotel employee are extremely rude and disrespectful. Avoid this hotel at all costs.” Jun 2, 2007 by
Chris from Rancho Palos Verdes, CA
“A nice stroll from the Mall and Gas Lamp and next to the trolley stop. We were concerned about paying the $25+ for parking, but for a Saturday night stay, the street parking after 6:00 p.m. And all day Sunday was free. The room with a King Bed was spacious, enough for the 2 kids to run about while still giving Mom and Dad space to relax. Petcock Park was just a few trolley stops away - and while the immediate area around the hotel is quiet at night, it still seemed reasonably safe to walk to and from the hot spots.” Mar 14, 2007 by
Bo from Lansdale, PA
“Very good, nice gym area with outdoor hot-tub. Color and decor very modern light, welcoming and friendly. Rooms very nice. Room service excellent, food very tasty. Thanks.” Dec 13, 2006 by

“Not impressed with this hotel. I travel a lot and typically when staying at a 3.5 to 4 star hotel as this one is rated, I expect better rooms, service and amenities. I also did not like booking a room on and being pinged a fee for everything. The following items were additional fees: parking at $25 per day. There is parking for $20 across the street but no in and out access. The parking they do offer is onyx valet. It is not the valet¿s fault that they charge $25 per day, so tipping got costly with every trip in and out of the hotel. Fees for use of the internet either wired or wireless. ($12.95 a day) expense meals in the hotel dining room ($16 for breakfast buffet, and it is no better than what you get for $7 at a courtyard) $.95 for local calls toll free numbers are not considered local so a call to an airline to check flight status cost $3.90.all in all, I stayed 6 days and my prepaid room through cost me an additional $305 when checking out. That was parking, breakfast for 5 and room service for 2 one night along with phone calls. In addition to the fees that seemed non stop, the service was not great either. The maids would not refill the soap, shampoo etc, if you had one still in the shower that was opened. Several times we had to call down to the front desk to get them to bring up a shampoo because they would have cleaned the room while we were out, not replaced it, my wife would shower/wash hair in the evening and use the rest of it, so my morning shower would not have any shampoo left. (I wasn't looking to take any home, just have enough to use while there) room went unlearned 1 day. Maid checked in at about 10 am, and I asked if she could come back a bit later, she said yes. I put the "maid service requested" tag on the door and when returning that evening it still had not been done. The TV stopped working due to a malfunction of some equipment. They could not fix it and were full so couldn't/wouldn't move us.” Dec 5, 2006 by

“Overall very good. The beds were comfortable, and the service was good.” Jul 24, 2006 by

“we were upgraded to the penthouse suite on the 25th floor. it is the only room on the 25th floor!!! if you have the means, I highly recommend it!” Apr 5, 2006 by

“Great staff and nice room. The best eggs I have ever had.” Mar 2, 2006 by

“Food in cafe was not good and over priced. Need free self parking.” Dec 15, 2005 by
Glen from Los Angeles, CA
“It's a very nice hotel. The valet parking is just like other downtown San Diego hotels, very expensive. do not order room service here for the Monte Crisco sandwich (mediocre) and the pizza sucked (not mozzarella cheese).” 1 of 1 people found this review helpful.Dec 12, 2005 by

“We stayed at this hotel 14 years ago and it staying there again brought back fond memories.” Nov 30, 2005 by
Jennifer from Apple Valley, CA
“When we got there the elevators were broken. They could not park our truck because they said it was too tall. They told us where to park. We parked there and paid for parking, however our parking fee expired at 3:00 am when we woke up the next morning we had a $30 parking ticket. When we went to the restaurant to eat, they sat people who came in after us and when we were sat it took at least 5 min to get coffee. We were on our way to the airport and really did not have time to wait. Not a good experience. For the price we paid. It was adequate but I would not have wanted to pay the hotels price for this experience.” 0 of 1 people found this review helpful.Oct 20, 2005 by

“Great view, older, but nicely kept up. Rooms were clean. Located downtown and parking is in underground area with small spaces and high fees.” 2 of 2 people found this review helpful.Oct 14, 2005 by

“The hotel was fine, though the staff could have been slightly friendlier. They did what they were supposed to, though. The maids changed our sheets even though we did not put the change sheets card on the bed, which was a bit irritating since they took our pajamas with the sheets. It took us some running around to get the pajamas back.” 2 of 2 people found this review helpful.Oct 14, 2005 by

“The Wyndham Emerald Plaza was a 3 star hotel that surpassed a 4 star hotel I stayed at 2 months prior that was 3 blocks away. The room I had on the 11th floor was spacious and well appointed and had a great view of the city and the bay. The room I was given was impeccably clean. The toiletries provided were very high quality. Service in the hotel was courteous and efficient. My only complaint was the $24 per day valet parking fee which was the only option available to me with in, out privileges.” Oct 8, 2005 by
Michael P. from Union City, NJ
“Very nice and looking forward to a return visit in November. They did a great job. It is a nice hotel.” Oct 3, 2005 by
John from Knoxville, TN
“The overall hotel is very nice. The room is nice, but not as "elegant" as you might conclude from the lobby and other common areas.”
