• Coffee not available at the lobby..restaurant too far away from rooms. And a $10 per night parking fee.

• Hotel was very clean, rooms were very nice, had huge LCD HDTV, granite bathrooms, nice pool and hottub.
• It was a little difficult to get our suitcases from our car in the parking lot to our room, and they charge $10/night for parking :(

• Grounds were beautiful, right on harbour.
• Room was old, needed to be updated.

“I arrived really late to the hotel, and was trying to check in but the night auditor didn't notice me calling for him for over 10 minutes! We finally got the keys and went to the room. The rooms are average, nothing special at all. We requested a king bed but got stuck with 2 doubles. The bathroom however in the room was amazing. Granite counters, huge bathroom, very roomy. The pillows were a little awkward feeling. The grounds and the amenities the hotel offers are great, like their pool and free bike rental. Its really well located as well.”

“This hotel was well maintained, and the staff was really helpful. The desk clerk, checked us in, cheerfully, even though it was late. We had a late dinner at the hotel, and we were very pleased with the food and our waitress. All around we had a great experience here.”

• Free bike rental.
• The room looked pretty, but really was not well put together.

“The hotel was very nice. The grounds, pool, and spa were all nice and clean. The rooms looked nice, but we found a few things that didn't work well. In the bathroom the faucet was not placed well with the sink and was not attached to the counter. We also had problems with the stopper. There was no way to raise it after it had been lowered.”

• Lovely landscaping. Serene & peaceful. Did not feel like a big box hotel.

• Very Hawaiian resort.
• Exterior hallways looked a little dingy, could hear other guests yelling to each other in the am.

“Very nice rooms and property. The only real problem was in the morning we were woken up by one of our neighbors yelling back and forth and children slamming doors. There is not great insulation between the outside door and the room.”

• Difficult staff who argue with guests.

“The location and grounds are wonderful, but the hotel has gone downhill. The staff is cranky and disinterested and don't seem to communicate with each other.”

“Humphrey's has really gone downhill - broken down facility, cheap fixtures, non functioning in many ways, staff is apathetic, poorly trained and unprofessional, if there are problems, the staff's knee jerk reaction is to blame the guests. Only thing going for the place is the location.”

• Comfortable bed. Perfect location. Nice pool and spa. Really quiet.
• Parking was tight.

• The location on the bay was excellent and you can use bikes for free for up to two hours to ride around the trails by the bay.
• The first room we checked into smelled and the bathroom door did not shut.

• Very cool setting like being in a tropical paradise!
• Parking is an issue, since they have a concert every night.

“The tropical setting was cool, like being on an island instead of busy San Diego! The room was very nice, and we just had the basics. Tons of space in the room. Nice patio on main floor leading out to garden area. Pool and hot tub designed to be resort-like, rather than hotel-like. Bill Maher came thru the pool area on his way to his show. Fun!”

• Friendly, good amenities, seaside ambience, perfect for our visit to Sea World.
• It was a bit older than I expected but that did not take away for our enjoyment.

“We arrived early but they were cordial and able to oblige with an early check in. We had 2 rooms and the hotel gave us to poolside rooms across from each other. Perfect. We enjoyed to pool and Jacuzzi. The beds were very comfortable. Our 2 year old grandson joined us and they were set up a port a crib for him. The staff was very friendly and I would recommend this hotel to anyone staying in San Diego.”

• The hotel has an adjoining concert venue. Although the music stopped at 10:30, it was very noisy.

• Rooms facing road are loud. Unexpected daily fee for parking.

• The tropical theme and overall appearance.
• There was a concert going on that didn't end until around 10:30 pm.

“A great place to stay. The room was clean (as expected) and in a great location. It was great for the price. The hotel is having concerts on various nights and, had we known, we would have stayed somewhere else. We could hear the music loud and clear until 10:30 pm. It was not good with children under 3 years old and trying to get sleep for big day at the zoo the next day. However, if it were just me & my husband, the concert would have not been an issue. Other than that, if the concert wasn't going on - this is a beautiful hotel in a beautiful location in a beautiful and clean city!”

“Humphrey's is an aging hotel with a view of the marina and stone's throw from the airport that partly makes up for it's out of date fixtures and decor. The staff was nice and everything was fine but there was a wedding on a Sunday and our room was below the after party which went late into the night. Otherwise the experience was fine.”

• Great customer service and beautiful grounds. Pool and Jacuzzi are very nice and beds are comfortable; very safe too.
• Easy to hear neighbors in rooms next to us and our smoke alarm went off three times the first night.

“This is an older hotel but very well kept up. It has a very tropical feel to it and the parking is fantastic. Very easy to get luggage to rooms and the location is fabulous. The restaurant has the best meat and the burgers are terrific! Hotel employees and housekeeping try very hard to maintain the ambience of cleanliness of the grounds. There is a great bar area right by the pool and there are always plenty of pool towels. The rooms are very large and spacious and we would love to stay there again!”

• By the ocean, garden areas.
• They held a concert the night we were there, loud till wee hours, they do this regularly, phone didn't work, faucet handle fell off.

“Great restaurant, nice garden areas, okay room, nice bathroom. They hold concerts throughout the summer once a week. If you like the band you'll enjoy the noise and extra traffic. Otherwise, you'll wish you were elsewhere. Must go to lobby for internet.”

• The gym was not very clean.

• Nice grounds, convenient bar/restaurant, great pool, good boat/water view.
• Removed from many other restaurants and bars.

“This is a nice relaxing place to stay for a couple. Has a nice pool and hot tub, decent restaurant, and good bar with live music. We stayed in both the Marina view suite and a traditional room. Both were nice with patio/balcony, coffee maker, and fridge. It was quite when we were there, but there is an outdoor concert area which probably would be loud (if you're not into the music). Overall, I would recommend Humphrey's and would stay again.”

• We loved the grounds, very tropical and well tended. The restaurant was fabulous!
• Noisy, maids, other guests, etc. were very audible.

“Humphrey's is a very nice hotel on Shelter Island. The location is beautiful. The room is slightly dated and there is no in-room fridge. No breakfast or bottled water provided. Loved the location easy to access downtown San Diego, Point Loma or beach towns to the north.”

• The plastic wheeled cart that went by our window twice before 7am.

“When we arrived, we were told the hotel was full and that they would upgrade us to a "garden" suite. In reality, this meant a room that opened up to the fence right outside the pool. We stayed at a harbor front hotel and had a view of a fence and the parking lot. At around 10:30 every morning, construction workers began to cut tile with a loud humming machine that was so intense that it began to fade into my subconscious so that it would echo in my head through out the day. We had to pull off the sheets and bedding one morning due to an overnight pee accident by one of my twins. (Sorry future travelers. Dont expect them to change the mattress.) When we pulled off the bedding, we discovered blood soaked into the mattress near the head of the bed. I am hoping nose bleed vs. mafia style execution. In all fairness, they did send someone out and removed the mattress. We were later comped parking for the noise. We didnt know we even had to pay parking given we parked ourselves any way. They were very helpful in planning activities though.”

• The hotel room we received was very spacious and comfortable.
• The hotel house keeping service came very early in the morning and woke us.

“The Humphreys Half Moon Inn gave us a very spacious 2 queen-bed room after we explained that we are coming with 2 young children. We also tried their restaurant for dinner. For $30 a person my husband and I each got a 3 course gourmet meal. Both the food and the atmosphere beat our expectations.”

• The pool and spa were very nice. They also had a ping pong table which was a lot of fun. The gardens were beautiful!
• The rooms were a little outdated and dark.

“The location of the hotel was very nice. It was close to the water and harbor. The rooms were older, yet clean. There was a very nice pool, Jacuzzi, ping-pong table, and garden area. The attendants at the hotel were helpful and nice as well. This is a good family hotel!”
