• I liked the location and the views from all parts of the hotel.
• The gym was not very clean.

“This would be a great place to stay with friends and family. Its in a great location and the price is reasonable. I hope to go back and stay longer.”

• Nice grounds, convenient bar/restaurant, great pool, good boat/water view.
• Removed from many other restaurants and bars.

“This is a nice relaxing place to stay for a couple. Has a nice pool and hot tub, decent restaurant, and good bar with live music. We stayed in both the Marina view suite and a traditional room. Both were nice with patio/balcony, coffee maker, and fridge. It was quite when we were there, but there is an outdoor concert area which probably would be loud (if you're not into the music). Overall, I would recommend Humphrey's and would stay again.”

• We loved the grounds, very tropical and well tended. The restaurant was fabulous!
• Noisy, maids, other guests, etc. were very audible.

“Humphrey's is a very nice hotel on Shelter Island. The location is beautiful. The room is slightly dated and there is no in-room fridge. No breakfast or bottled water provided. Loved the location easy to access downtown San Diego, Point Loma or beach towns to the north.”

• The pool area was awesome for our family. Very clean and meticulously maintained.
• The plastic wheeled cart that went by our window twice before 7am.

“When we arrived, we were told the hotel was full and that they would upgrade us to a "garden" suite. In reality, this meant a room that opened up to the fence right outside the pool. We stayed at a harbor front hotel and had a view of a fence and the parking lot. At around 10:30 every morning, construction workers began to cut tile with a loud humming machine that was so intense that it began to fade into my subconscious so that it would echo in my head through out the day. We had to pull off the sheets and bedding one morning due to an overnight pee accident by one of my twins. (Sorry future travelers. Dont expect them to change the mattress.) When we pulled off the bedding, we discovered blood soaked into the mattress near the head of the bed. I am hoping nose bleed vs. mafia style execution. In all fairness, they did send someone out and removed the mattress. We were later comped parking for the noise. We didnt know we even had to pay parking given we parked ourselves any way. They were very helpful in planning activities though.”

• The hotel room we received was very spacious and comfortable.
• The hotel house keeping service came very early in the morning and woke us.

“The Humphreys Half Moon Inn gave us a very spacious 2 queen-bed room after we explained that we are coming with 2 young children. We also tried their restaurant for dinner. For $30 a person my husband and I each got a 3 course gourmet meal. Both the food and the atmosphere beat our expectations.”

• The pool and spa were very nice. They also had a ping pong table which was a lot of fun. The gardens were beautiful!
• The rooms were a little outdated and dark.

“The location of the hotel was very nice. It was close to the water and harbor. The rooms were older, yet clean. There was a very nice pool, Jacuzzi, ping-pong table, and garden area. The attendants at the hotel were helpful and nice as well. This is a good family hotel!”

• Centrally located.
• The ducks!

“It was pretty dark. The ducks at 4am. Had a heavy/gloomy atmosphere. The decor was outdated. Nearby room had construction going on.”

• Location was fabulous, Shelter Island and very close to the airport.
• They tried to stick us in a substandard room.

“We arrived at the hotel and went to our room, which was labeled "backstage". This particular hotel has an outdoor theatre and I assume this room was used for the performers to get ready to go to the stage. It smelled awful in the room. The staff was very accommodating when we complained and sent us to another room right away.”

• The location is great, Shelter Island is a great place to stay.
• The pillows were so uncomfortable, it impacted my sleep.

• Nice bathrooms.
• Room needs updating. No hot water in the shower.

“Good location. However, the hotel is not good value for money. Rooms need updating, room service is expensive with limited menu and food quality is not the best. There was only Luke warm water in the shower. Parking near your room is limited. The location, down by the dock, is noisy.”

• Sizeable room with patio. Free internet is a nice touch too.
• It's a little out of the way, 3 4 miles from the interstate. This is both a plus and a minus.

“We checked in with a friendly man at the central hut. Then we drove 12 feet to our hut. It was nice. King size bed, big bathroom, etc. Only negatives about the place were that there was a road race the next morning, which temporarily closed off the street the hotel was on to traffic. Also, there was an adjoining room where people were trying to get into our room.”

• Beautiful courtyard and pool area.
• Room very small.

“Staff was very friendly and helpful. Our party of 4 was originally assigned a king room but staff quickly and politely changed us to another room. Good location if you have a car but not near the trolley line otherwise. Area seemed safe but grounds somewhat dark. Room with two double beds was very crowded. Bathrooms old and worn but large and clean.”

• The setting reminded us of Hawaii.
• Gross bathroom, musty smelling, overpriced, so not an upscale hotel.

“It is in a beautiful setting, but needs some major renovations. The harbor views were nice, pool area was great, and kids had fun with the outdoor activities. Noise was a problem. We could have got this room from anyplace at the rate we paid. No bargain this time and would not have chosen to stay here for the money we spent.”

• Beautiful Polynesian atmosphere, amazing restaurant.
• Our room was given away through no fault of our own; We had 4 people and only 2 beds. They said they would bring a roll away but they never did.

“Staff was much disorganized and did not see to communicate with each other. Our room was not ready when it was suppose to be and they were to call us when it was. They never called and gave our room away. I told the manager we have 4 people and only 2 beds. She basically said too bad and that she send a roll away right away. They never did after 2 more requests.”

• Parking lot under construction made room hard to access.

“The landscaping was so beautiful when we arrived we were so excited, until we opened the room door! The rooms really need updating, very clean but carpet was very stained and dated. The couch was stained and very used looking, the air/heater made a lot of noise, that we could not figure out how to stop. Wonderful location to sea world and down town access easy. Beautiful views. Would stay longer if we could!”

• Comfortable bed and room, large heated pool, great club/music, very close to airport
• Club was too crowded to enter and charged fee when advertised as free.

“This is a clean, comfortable hotel in a great location if you need to rush off to the airport. The large heated pool is a plus. The staff is friendly, knowledgeable, and helpful. The hotel includes a fantastic music club that is a real bonus - it could be a destination just because of the available nightly music that attracts local and international talents.”

• Pleasant atmosphere, helpful staff, beautiful location.
• Only tables had to upgrade to get a desk, lighting poor for work, public transport difficult.

“The economy rooms are small and a bit dark. The upgrades are very nice. The amenities, like the pool area, are very beautiful. Gym is poor but adequate. There is a panacea of restaurants within walking distance with a lovely scenic walking path beside. Handy to downtown and airport but the public transport access is difficult. It is a great get away.”

• The room was big.
• The hotel furniture, bed and sofa, were terrible. The hotel staff was also terrible.

“This hotel lacks in service. If you stay at a 3 star or higher hotel, you expect service to be a little better than a motel. This was a motel for all intents and purposes. For the price it was not worth the stay. The hotel staff was rude and not helpful in any way.”

• Great view from our room. Parrots sat at our patio.
• Inaccurate information from staff regarding microwave in room.

“It was a great stay. I was told all rooms have those items. When I got there, the first room upon checking in wasn't as nice and there wasn't a microwave. I called the front desk and was told that a microwave didn¿t come in that room. I explained that I talked to their front desk previously and was told a microwave is in each room. After paying a $50 upgrade fee, I was then put in a beautiful sweet with microwave. It was a great room though, with a wonderful view of the bay and concert stage. Two beautiful parrots sat on our patio frequently.”

“Overall the stay was pleasant, this resort is showing its age, everything was clean and maintained just old and dated. There were concerts/special events every night and there was a lot of noise and traffic associated with those activities. The website for this hotel reflected a concert the first night of our stay only, so every night was a little much.”

• $8 parking fee, wireless internet signal too weak.

“On arrival, I asked for a room upgrade, and the clerk upgraded us to a "pool/garden view" room. It was nice, with a little patio facing the garden. It was nice. They told me there would be an eight dollar parking fee, but it never showed up on the bill. Wireless Internet signal was weak and unusable. Actually, I slightly prefer the 2.5 star Island Palms, located next door, but this hotel is good too. ”

“Humphrey's has an excellent location for vacationing or as a hotel for meetings. We found Humphrey's is considered a distention hotel in the San Diego area. Our room was roomier, clean and airy room, and accessible. The staff was superb, with their helpful friendly manor. We found the adjacent restaurant to be an excellent venue, in both food and service. As a bonus Humphrey's has a wonderful concert venue, The Beach Boys were playing the night of our stay.”

“Very pleasant, efficient and accommodating staff. Room was clean and comfortable. Room service was prompt although menu a bit limited. Pool area is especially nice including a bar and food service. However, needed more chaise lounges and or seating. I will definitely stay here next time I am in the area.”

• Loved the location near the Marina.
• Our room had nothing beautiful to look at - cement patio outside the window.

“We enjoyed the location of the hotel. I always feel somewhat shortchanged when I check in and am told I will need to pay for parking. If I am going to stay there I should be able to park for the price of the room. Our room overlooked the summer stage for musical events. We would probably stay here again, but would request a different room.”

• Spacious, updated room with refrigerator and nice decoration.
• Air conditioning could have worked better, and No smoking rooms. Save a couple for us!

“Really nice hotel with great staff! Been renovated and grounds are beautiful! Food was good, a little expensive. Having a refrigerator is a big plus! Spacious rooms are nice! Price did not include $8.00 parking fee, but that is not bad.”
