• Pool area and the staff was very helpful and accommodating.
• The ice machine was difficult to access (4th floor) and the bedspread had something on it but the staff quickly replaced it.

“We have stayed there before and it is one of our favorites. The pool area is very beautiful and the rooms are comfortable and attractive.”

• I loved that it was just four miles from the beach! The rooms were gorgeous and the pool was stunning.
• The front desk staff was not friendly. Not that I let it ruin my experience. But a smile and some enthusiasm goes a really long way.

“Love this place. Probably one of the nicest hotels I have stayed in. Beds were so comfy and pillows were perfect. My husband stated that he wants me to decorate our bedroom just like the hotel room. The sparkling pool and Jacuzzi are huge with plenty of lounge chairs and tables to eat at poolside. This Doubletree is just a five minute drive up the road from Torrez Pines State Beach. My kids loved this hotel. Doubletree cookies always rock! Happy travels.”

• Our room was not comfortable.

“We were put in a handicapped room. To accommodate and person in a wheel chair, the bathroom was huge making our room accommodations very small. Also the shower was set up for a handicapped person meaning we had no tub. While the hotel itself was fine, we were very dissatisfied with the room. How do we ensure this won't happen again.”

• The bed was very comfortable.
• Not having local FSN on their tier for television viewing.

• Clean and very quiet. Staff was friendly.
• No hot water when we returned to hotel Friday night.

“The only problem we had was when we returned to the hotel Friday night at 10 p.m. I took a quick bath that was lukewarm. My husband went to take a shower and it was cold. He asked me to call the front desk. They said "sorry we are working on the pipes" in your section. I was already in bed and unpacked, or I would have asked for another room. The next day when we asked if there was going to be hot water, they apologized and gave us cookies. I think that if a hotel is having problems with the plumbing, they should call the rooms that will be without hot water and leave a message. I didn't think they handled the situation in the best manner. Also the location was so-so. We had to get back on the freeway to drive to dinner. Not located near restaurants.”

• Great location, central to everything in San Diego!
• Breakfast buffet was overpriced for the quality. Best to go to the nearby Vons and Starbucks for better.

“Nice hotel, perfect for business travelers. Rooms are nice with fairly comfortable beds and worked well for my wife and I and our two kids. Great pool, pleasant to hang out at if you have some down time. Will definitely stay here again.”

• Free parking, room service, though prices were too high. Nice pool area.
• I opened the door to the ice machine room and I immediately stepped into a large square hole in the floor and really hurt myself.

“Lovely hotel, but the fact that they were totally negligent in permitting an open hole at the very entrance to the ice machine and beverage room on the 5th floor, totally ruined my entire stay in San Diego. I did a number on my left leg and foot and the right side of my back. I was off my back and had to ice my leg the next few days.”

• Sundry items I wanted not in gift store-hard to control temp in room.

“Very basic with limited amenities. Close to the freeway, but was so close it was very loud at poolside. Rooms were basic and adequate, but it was hard to operate thermostat and keep room at the proper temperature. Staff at front desk was okay, but not great. Bellman were great - had 2 different ones and was very impressed.”

• I liked the friendliness of the staff and the pool.
• Did not like the surroundings, only business buildings around.

“The hotel overall was very nice. The staff was incredibly nice. The bed was really comfortable, however the furniture in the room was a little dated. I never like hotel pillows because they're never firm, and this hotel was no exception. The room was really clean and presentable. The pool was great, it was big and surrounded by a lot of trees. We were looking forward to the pool side dining and drinks, but when we got down there, we only saw older men at the bar. So not much of an atmosphere. I would only recommend this hotel for business travelers.”

“The front desk staff seemed to go out of there way to give me the worst possible room. When I first asked for an upgrade they said they had none. Both clerks were curt. Not friendly or professional. Very bad reflection on Hilton. The lounge was not open on Saturday morning.”

• 3.50 for a bottle of water, Parking was difficult, noisy outside.

“The room was clean and comfortable. The staff was very friendly. The location of it was convenient, right off the freeway. On the flip side, the parking was very difficult and there were empty cups on the hall floor, leading to the room. I was overall pleased with this hotel, and would stay there again.”

• Nice pool, comfortable beds.
• Parking space was impossible to fit a regular car in to the small spaces. Most cars ended up using more than 1 space, which resulted in even fewer.

“Very friendly staff. Room was clean and modern. The pool and hot tub were very clean and nice to swim in. What is the use of hotels not providing free internet? Honestly, in these days charging for internet is like charging for phone calls at a hotel. Even Motel Six has free WiFi. The parking at the hotel is a miserable experience. First the parking lot is small for the size of the hotel. Secondly, the spaces are so small that unless you are driving Honda Fit, your card will not fit in the space and you will end up diging your neighbor's car and turning sideways to get out. To make it worse, many larger vans and trucks ended up taking 2 spaces, allowing even fewer spaces in the already small lot. On the plus side, parking was free. Although I wouldn't mind paying for a better parking expeience.”

• Nice looking, great looking registration desk.

“The room had wine stains on the carpet and still sticky wine on a night stand by the bed. The coffee pot leaked water all over the desk. In the morning I advised the staff of the above and they were indifferent. The restaurant was so small I thought it was the bar.”

• This trip we were placed next to high schools, we had connecting doors and we slept very little, we were reluctantly moved after complaining.

• The room was located close of a major freeway and I heard traffic noise.

• The pool and weight room were good.
• Two teenagers had to share a sofa-sleeper bed, one ended up on the floor.

“It served its purpose; we were in town to go to sea world and do some shopping. Sea World was not too far away and freeway access was nearby and easy. The breakfast bar is expensive for what you get and you dont know the price until after you seat yourself and start eating. Overall a positive experience, but could be better.”

“We were very pleased with how welcoming the front staff was. Our biggest disappointment was that the room was very small and the pull-out sofa was very uncomfortable for my kids (and they can sleep pretty much anywhere). It would have been nice to have had a fridge and microwave. The cookies were great!”

• The walls were paper thin. I could hear every word of the conversation next door.

“While the room was attractive and included a couch and coffee table, the walls were very thin, allowing me to hear every word of a conversation going on in the next room. I only stayed one night, and did not patronize the bar or restaurant, however, the bar and restaurant area was inviting and very attractive. Had I stayed longer, I would definitely have given them a try. Overall, an OK experience, but not great. How about some sound insulation in the walls?”

• The staff was awesome. They went out of their way to call us to make sure everything was to our liking.
• Location is a bit industrial (but if you have a car it's no big deal).

“Beautiful hotel with outstanding staff. Good location to visit both Legoland and SeaWorld (about 1/2 way in-between). Although geared towards the business traveler they were very accommodating to our family and had a wonderful pool area.”

• Clean, friendly, great pool.
• Elevator shaft was located near room and was a bit noisy, but they moved us with no problem.

“I was very impressed with the Doubletree, excellent front desk service, rooms were very nice and clean and the pool was awesome. My kids enjoyed it. I would definitely stay there again and recommend it to those traveling to San Diego.”

• Desk clerk was hostile about taking my frequent stay number.

“Even though this Doubletree in Del Mar, California has all the proper facilities and amenities, it is noisy, not restful, and the hostility implied by the staff at check in. I cannot recommend this Doubletree. It's worn, not at all fresh, and "feels wrong".”

“The hotel is in good location, close to Downtown, Sea World and Legoland. Staff there is friendly. The room is small and only have a queen bed, and a pull out sofa bed, which is not very comfortable to sleep on. When you pull out the sofa bed, there is very little space to move around.”

“This out of the way hotel was comfortable but noisy. You could hear the maid service opening and closing drawers in the room next to ours. Walls are way too thin! The maid service was a very inconvenient time, between 2 and 4. Room service was ok but always had to call for something they forgot. Shower was not good very weak water pressure. Location was in business district and not very close to other restaurants. Hotel staff was not very knowledgeable about restaurants in area. Will not stay there again.”

• Business park location limited dining options.

“Very pleasantly surprised by the hotel and my experience. The front desk had no problem upgrading the room, or allowing my fiance to check in instead of me. Room was very roomy, and the pool/Jacuzzi were inviting - wish the weather had allowed us to enjoy. Very impressed by the Neutrogena toiletries. Would definitely return.”

• Double tree has always exceeds our expectation.
• Small children were using the equipment in the exercise room.

“We have never been disappointed in double tree. The room is always clean, the staff is very courteous. As mentioned before, there were four children (under the age of 10) though accompanied by an adult, were using the equipments in the exercise room. We do not believe this is appropriate place for young children as they may hurt themselves. Other than that, we love the double tree.”
