• It was an upscale hotel at a very affordable price. The service was wonderful.
• Somewhat distant from downtown but easily traveled by freeway.

“The Marriott Del Mar surpassed our expectations of a Marriott hotel. The rooms were beautiful and large. The staff went out of their way to help us accommodate our children. Throughout the hotel the staff was helpful & friendly. Every area of the property was beautifully decorated & comfortable. Wish we could have stayed longer!”

• The Marriott Del Mar provided top-notch Marriott quality in a convenient location just north of San Diego Sea World.
• While not in a city center, you had to park in a garage for about $15/day. No extra charge for in/out.

“The Marriott Del Mar provided top-notch Marriott quality in a convenient location just north of San Diego Sea World. It has easy on/off access to Interstate 5 and is about 15-20 minutes from Sea World and 20-25 minutes to downtown San Diego. There's plenty of shopping and dining just 5-10 minutes in any direction. The rooms are quality that you expect from a Marriott. There was ample available parking in the adjacent structure. As I have friends in the area, I plan to stay at this property in the future.”

• Did not like $13 per day for parking.

“Nice, clean hotel, attentive staff; close to San Diego beaches, aquarium, Del Mar fairgrounds, and many other attractions. Only downside was that parking cost $13 per day.”

“This hotel seemed like it would be great for business travelers, or couples w/o young children. It was a very nice hotel, just not ideal for families. Good location, and very quiet, though.”

• Parking was $13 a day and quite a walk.

“Hotel location was convenient. Mall was 5 minutes drive from hotel for eating etc. Parking was extra and not especially convenient. Was OK for a one night stay before leaving for the airport.”

• The Hotel Staff was very efficient, knowledgeable and helpful.
• We felt the daily parking fee was very high.

“We found this hotel to be convenient to freeways, beaches, restaurants, and shopping. Beds were of high quality and linens were very comfortable and conducive to a restful nights sleep.”

• The beds were very comfortable. The room smelled like fresh flowers!
• Room 200 had the view of the air-conditioning unit. Not a pleasant view at all.

“Beautiful hotel in a great location. Charged $13.00 for parking. Even though there were plenty of rooms available, we were placed in room 200 which had the view of the air-conditioning unit. The beds were comfortable and room smelled fresh.”

• I was enthralled by the room, the staff, and the generosity of both.
• There is nothing I did not like about this hotel. Everything was splendid.

“My wife and I were vacationing, for 1 night only, in san Diego to celebrate our 2 year anniversary. The young lady who answered the phone was very helpful and pleasant. We arrived at the hotel in the late evening and checked in, whereupon the gentleman at the front desk wished us a happy anniversary and gave us our room key. I was surprised he knew it was our anniversary, but then remembered my phone call. We went to the room and discovered a plaque on the wall reading "windiness suite". Upon entry we discovered a gorgeous room with incredible space and views, Starbucks coffee, bath & body works soaps and shampoos, a huge and extremely comfortable bed, a desk with stationary and an assortment of magazines displayed on the coffee table. This suite must have been bigger than our tiny apartment in Huntington beach. I went to the car to get our swimsuits and thanked the man for the amazing room. 'Happy anniversary" was his genial reply. We ventured to the hot tub and had a wonderful soak, all the while watching a late night fashion photo shoot outside by the opulent poolside fire pit. I can't ever remember sleeping in a more comfortable and relaxing bed. We awoke the next morning and had a splendid cup of coffee while unhurriedly lounging in bed and browsing through the magazine selection. Checkout was a breeze, and we were once again congratulated on our raison deter. This was a shocking experience, being so young and informal and still treated with such genuine respect and kindness. I wasn't expecting anything special, having purchased our room at such a dramatically discounted rate- nothing could be further from the truth; we felt as if we were celebrating our 50th anniversary, based upon the way we were so delightfully treated. I will make.”

“I expected a 3 star hotel should have refrigerator in every room. They should put a note on their website telling people the parking in the hotel charges extra money. I am upset about that.”

“Very nice hotel. Only thing wasn't crazy about was sushi item I ordered - it was unlike any dynamite roll have had - much smaller and was missing a listed ingredient, too pricey for what you got. Other than that, it was great stay.”

• The beds and linens are fabulously comfortable.
• Housekeeping was poor - had to ask for shower cap, bottle of shampoo, etc.

“This hotel is beautiful and, for the most part, cleans. The staff was willing to change a room that looked out on an air conditioner and rooftop. The restaurant, art terra, I learned is a preferred restaurant for dinner among the locals I visited. I recommend this hotel highly.”

• The facilities were nice, especially the pool and outside lounge area.
• The service was horrible. The manager would not make any accommodations even though his staff made a mistake.

“The hotel staff, especially the manager, treated us like second class customers just because we were paying a lower rate. The manager could not accommodate us with rollaway or another room. Instead he offered to sell us another room after we drove over 2 hours to the hotel. He never even acknowledged the fact that the hotel made a mistake or that we were caused undue stress and inconvenience. We never got an apology.”

• Full-sized bed instead of queen or king; no wireless Internet from the room.

“Lobby is gorgeous; staff polite and helpful. A small refrigerator would have been nice; amenities were pleasant. Room was immaculate. Bed very comfortable but small for two adults used to a regular queen-sized bed. Restaurant was closed for renovation.”

• I think that it is wonderful but I would have loved to have known about the construction in the pool area ahead of time.

• I enjoyed the pillows.
• Our toilet made a horrible noise when it was flushed. Probably an engineering problem.

“The Marriott was very nice. It was at a convenient location for my trip, less than 10 minutes away from USCD and La Jolla Cove. The staff was very friendly and helpful, especially housekeeping. The bed was soft, and the feather pillows were an extra bonus for me.”

• The staff was excellent and went out of their way to exceed our needs.
• The hotel was located in central San Diego, and I would have liked it closer to the beach.

“The hotel was fantastic. There is a shopping center and several restaurants within a few blocks of the hotel. It was very easy to get to, and when I checked in very late, the front desk agent was cheerful and got me into the room quickly. My room type was met, and the staff continued to ask if they could do anything to improve my stay. I strongly recommend this hotel for a trip to San Diego!”

“The checking and checkout were fast and courteous and the room was very comfortable. The parking was a bit expensive for being so far from down town. The "view bill" and "checkout" features were not functional on the TV.”

“This is an amazing hotel for the price I paid. The restaurant, which I did not eat in, is rated high in the San Diego area and mall restaurants for those of us not on corporate budgets are nearby. Great freeway access, but the paying for the parking added a cost that I was not expecting.”

• The valet a waiting staff was good.
• Corridor smelled like toilet. Requested and confirmed for king size bed, but when got two double beds arrived. Manager was very rude.

• Really 1st class restaurant voted top 10.
• Location far from downtown with traffic flow problems.

“This is a business hotel for the most part high raise no views etc. But other than location it was great! Lobby and room were tasteful, clean and staff was very friendly. Nice gym with water, fruit and TV screens etc. Lobby had free internet access and the restaurant had one of the best breakfast buffets we ever had. ”

• Nice location only 25 minutes drive to sea world and san Diego zoo.
• Located in business area so no restaurant near by, but its right near the freeway entrance.

“Nice and clean hotel. Although didn't expect to be charge for $13.00 per day for parking. Located in business area so if you're looking for places to eat or hangout then it's the wrong place for you. Although it's near the freeway entrance on 5 freeway. It's about 25 minutes drive to sea world, san Diego zoo, and the gas lamp district in down town.”

• Pool was closed even though advertised as open. Only hotel in area charging for parking.

“This is a really nice 3 star hotel. It's nicely decorated and well maintained. I'd give it a 3.5 star. However, this is the only property in the area that charges for parking. The pool was closed for what looked like extensive updates, even though the hotel website said it would be open. Lastly, our room service order was an hour late and the food was not good at all. I like this hotel property the most for the area. However, the pay for parking alone makes it the least attractive to me. Hopefully, the pool area will be significantly better after it's updated, because the old pool is the poorest in the area. This comparison is based on the doubletree del mar and Hilton del mar.”
