“Staying at the Rid path felt like you were stepping into "The Shining". They should either put some effort into keeping this hotel open, or just close it. There was no longer any valet parking - just a sign saying "Lot Full" even though there were only about 3 cars in the parking garage. Neither elevator was working - just a piece of furniture placed in front of one of the doors. The "fitness center" had only a couple of pieces of working equipment and an empty water dispenser. The towels in the rooms were mismatched and threadbare. It was very depressing.” Jul 26, 2008 by
Kevin from Kennewick, WA
“Room substandard from cleanliness to pealing paint and leaking plumbing. Definitely the worst experience I have ever had.” Jul 16, 2008 by
Lucky from Seattle, WA
“The Rid path offers the best bang for your buck in Spokane. With a Downtown location, great restaurants/bars and prices, that are a third of its upscale competitor down the street.” Jun 29, 2008 by
Dee from Sun City West, AZ
“Room very small, bathroom not very convenient in size, parking at hotel was terrible and charged $15 night for horrible parking area, unable to get extra pillows when checking in. Reported drippy faucet, but was not repaired. All in all, would not recommend this hotel. Needs many upgrades and updated features.” Jun 28, 2008 by
Barbara M. from Overland Park, KS
“This is definitely not the 4 star hotel. Continental breakfast is a cup of coffee with no cream or anything to stir coffee. I would not recommend this hotel to my worst enemy. Why did you put us in such a terrible place.” May 19, 2008 by
James from Seattle, WA
“Here is my laundry list of complaints: Self parking $15 Valet used to be $10 parking garage is filthy, really Filthy. Saw night staff person drinking both nights/day staff seemed bothered when I had a question. Both elevators were broken. One of the elevators has been broken for months. Service elevator is filthy. The heat would not turn off in my room. Maintenance entered my room at 6am on accident. Bird droppings all over my windows. Lousy internet service.” May 8, 2008 by
Cathy from Kalispell, MT
“Once upon a time this was a lovely hotel in a perfect location! It has slipped sadly into a shabby shell of itself. Rooms are small, dingy, and feature broken or missing pieces. TV was broken and had to be replaced, elevators were broken and we had to use the freight elevator through very scary backroom filthy hallways or the stairs to and from our room on the upper floors while carrying our luggage. The bar off the lobby - which had been nicely renovated- was wild and crazy till the wee hours and had police interventions both nights after a bar fight which we heard in full detail from our room.” May 7, 2008 by
Rob from Urbana, IL
“On the positive side, my room was comfortable and adequate. And the location is outstanding. But this hotel clearly is in decline. One of the two elevators was broken. Nor did the elevators work from the 2nd floor. And on the last day, both were broken, so we had to use the freight elevator. The hotel has an attractive fitness room, but none of the staff could figure out how to unlock the door so I could use it. The HVAC in my room was broken. A staff person told me that turning the thermostat to the coolest setting would not make it cool; rather I should put it someplace in the middle. This is typical of the kind of help I repeatedly got from the very friendly but totally incompetent staff at this hotel. The lobby was dark and depressing. Perhaps this is because of the nightclub on that level--though it had very few customers. All in all, this hotel reminded me of a budget hotel in Eastern Europe--an acceptable place to stay at a low price, but don't expect everything to work.” Apr 23, 2008 by
Patrick from Central Point, OR
“No refers, no microwaves, The site boasts a gym, restaurant and a complimentary continental breakfast. The workout room had a 4 position weight station that was broken on all 4 sides, the tredmill was also broken only 1 piece of equipment actually worked. The restaurant had closed down months earlier (lost lease) the "continental breakfast" consisted of coffee. They charged $16 a night to park in their downstairs garage, which was not attended by anyone, had trash littered everywhere and we were told by others that they had a lot of vandalism reported. The elevaters were broke the entire stay and we were forsed to use the stairs (5th floor) and use the service elevator which was through the kitchen? The rooms were so small no one wanted to stay there but due to the convention in town there were no other rooms anywhere. When we would walk outside of the hotle in any directions we were assailed by people living on the sidewalks and constantly asked for "change". This was the worst experience I have ever had in my life. I was completely embarrased to have brought all of my business associates to this plase. We are a legal firm and are seriously concidering filing a suit against the corporation for false advertizing. I have several letters being prepared this week and have the contacts of the corporate office in Las Vegas.” Apr 14, 2008 by
Brent from Nampa, ID
“Worst place I've ever stayed. Motel 6 was better. Would never return to the Rid path.” Apr 2, 2008 by
Nancy from Dayton, WA
“I would probably stay at this hotel again because of its location. I did find parking a challenge and also the room was a little small.” Mar 8, 2008 by
Melanie from Wynndel, BC CA
“I would not stay here again and would not recommend this hotel to friends. The entire experience was quite poor.” Mar 5, 2008 by
Gary from Oroville, Wash.
“This is the second time I've stayed here while in town to attend a Gonzaga basketball game in the last two years and it will be the last. The staff are friendly, depending on who is on duty some acted like they were in need of some sleep and you were intruding on their time, while others were very helpful. The elevator did not work and it seemed as if no one was intending on getting it fixed soon. We had to use the noisy, dirty service elevator after winding around a corner by the kitchen (this alone should have meant a discount on the room. The rooms were clean although the card keys had to be inserted twice each time you wanted in the room to get them to work. The hallways looked a little threadbare and in need of some fixing up the garbage left in the cubby holes near the service elevator was not picked up for days. The best thing about the hotel is its location in downtown the parking price of $15 is ridiculous though. We chose to park in the $5 a day lot across the street. There is also no shuttle to the airport. To get to the game we stopped in the Davenport tower and asked if they could call us a cab and they treated us like guests of that fine hotel. When the cab was late in coming they offered us the use of their Town car to get to the game on time. Now that's service. I'd avoid staying at the Ridpath and instead choose a place that actually seems to care whether you come back or not. There are many less expensive and more clean and convenient franchise motel/hotels one could stay at and have a better experience. Lastly, there was no shuttle service to the airport. One of Spokane's venerable old gray lady hotels has gotten kind of seedy.” Mar 5, 2008 by
Peggy from Moses Lake, WA
“I have never felt such strong dislike for a hotel. The lobby looks nice during the day because it has old world decor, but it turns into a nightclub at night. It was inappropriate and uncomfortable. Hotel is old and in disrepair. Ceilings are low, bathrooms are small, doors don't close. It was awful.” Mar 3, 2008 by
Karen from Kirkland, WA
“Would not go again. Looks like they are in hard times.” Mar 2, 2008 by
Jimmy from Malaga, WA
“One of the worst hotels I have ever stayed at. Everything is under repair.” Feb 23, 2008 by
Sherry from East Wenatchee, WA
“The impression we got was they were in transition or having financial problems. We've stayed there in the past and it seems to have fallen on hard times. To bad as the location is great for what the city has to offer.” Feb 17, 2008 by
Caitlin from Longview, WA
“My stay was not enjoyable. The neighborhood was scary. I wanted to have valet parking because I was arriving late, they had not one to help, I had to drive my car down in the garage, then take the freight elevator, I was scared to death.” Feb 15, 2008 by
Linda from Kennewick, WA
“Decided we could leave if it was horrible. We were not impressed by lobby and were concerned to have to use service elevator found through a narrow hall and grungy stairwell. The hall to our 6th floor room was not inviting but we were pleasantly surprised with our room. It was clean and nicely furnished. Not elaborate but comfortable. We did not like to pay to park. That was a surprise. We chose to park on the street.” Feb 13, 2008 by
Brady from Boise, ID
“A tale of polar opposites. Lobby, bar, and restaurant very close to modern 4 star; everything upstairs, rooms, perhaps a stretch to say 2 star; dated. Not retro, bad rated. Still good value, good location, and good staff.” Jan 27, 2008 by
Limor from St Laurent, QC CA
“Hotel situated in Downtown Spokane, great location. Walk to mall and good restaurants. Hotel has beautiful potential and very nice lobby area, nice place for parties and weddings as well. Staff is amazing and very helpful. I recommend very reasonably priced.” Jan 4, 2008 by
Curt from Pasco, WA
“Good Location, facilities not bad on surface but in bad need of an update - walls were paper thin I could hear plumbing and elevator noise all night long. If you have small kids make sure you stay in the new section or very close to the 1st floor as the windows are deathtraps. Must be a good bar because I went on NY eve and the neighbors and their 20 or 30 friends sounded pretty happy in the hallway - until 5AM. I give credit to the staff for their attempts to calm them down.” Dec 13, 2007 by
Jamie from Republic, WA
“I have no idea whatever happened to the rid path but it is run down and filthy. I ended up staying on the 11th floor of the hotel with my partner and the elevators were not working. The stairways were littered with beer cans, cigarette butts and other garbage. There was graffiti all over the inside of the building. The front staff was wearing a t shirt and had tattoos covering his arms all the way down to his wrists! The only icemaker was broken and had created a large puddle on the floor.” Dec 3, 2007 by
Anne from Hope, ID
“The last time we stayed at the Ridpath, there was a 2nd building with rooms (now closed) and a wonderful restaurant (now closed). The lobby was dark and bare - we heard through locals that the hotel is not doing well and is about to either closed or sold. The room was okay, but we would not want to stay there again.” Nov 17, 2007 by
Ken from Oxford, OH
“I won't ever stay in this hotel again. I had to leave early the garage was locked. No one was there to open the door. I waited in the lobby for someone and no one was there to help me. I had to find the switch to open the door and lost 30 minutes and almost missed the plane I was scheduled to be on.” Nov 12, 2007 by
james from hughes
“This hotel is an excellent hidden value. It is close to many downtown attractions and music venues. It has an excellent swing band and singer in the restaurant/lounge area. It is an older and well renovated. The Mezzaniene or 3rd floor contains a few meeting rooms, and intimate seating surrounded by old masters paintings.” Oct 29, 2007 by
Bobbi from Moses Lake, WA
“There was no parking available on the street and valet cost $15. The room was small and the heater was stuck on. The room was like a sauna. The windows barely opened and there were no screens on the windows, therefore bugs filled the room. The bed was stiff and the glasses in the bathroom were dirty. I would definitely not recommend this hotel. It may be historic, but it is a dump.” Oct 25, 2007 by
Jason from Richland, WA
“Rooms are a little dated and no 2 queen bed option. Location is great if you want to be downtown. Excellent for business travel but not impressive for date/significant other. I thought it was a little overrated at 2.5 stars.” Oct 25, 2007 by
Amy from Knoxville, TN
“Prior to my Ridpath stay, I had stayed at the Davenport hotel, so to be fair my expectations were very high! (the Davenport is a stunning place). My Rid path room was not glamorous, but provided good value and a safe, clean place to stay. The Rid path is in the middle of a major upgrade. Already the 2nd floor lounge area is very appealing (with an old, large fireplace), and the artisan restaurant/bar on the lobby level is a popular Spokane night spot. In all, good value and a great location in the central city.” Oct 25, 2007 by
Cindy from Portland, OR
“Not a hotel I would stay in again. Comfort inn is much nicer, re: location, parking, safety, and comfort of beds. The toilet in this hotel actually dripped onto the toilet paper.” Oct 24, 2007 by
Tim from Potlatch, ID
“I've been staying at the rid path for many years, through several owners. In its present incarnation, it is quite adequate, but it seems to lack a focus. The restaurant's food was decent, but the atmosphere was just not put together well as a restaurant. Also, while I ate dinner, staff was converting the space to a nightclub. Not relaxing. I'll continue to stay at the rid path, but Ill eat elsewhere.” Oct 21, 2007 by
Toni from Lemoore, CA
“Comfortable, clean and centrally located to downtown attractions. The lobby is well decorated. The rooms were clean, but small as was the TV. This might not matter to most, but my family is chronic television watchers. The choice of channels available was outstanding for a hotel though.” Oct 12, 2007 by
Carla from Moses Lake, WA
“Thin walls, thin shabby sheets felt dirty, old building weird bathrooms (toilet paper behind toilet & out of sight) water pressure was decent. No room service or continental breakfast. Garbage on the floor in my room upon entering. Lighting isn't great if you have paper work when its dark. You can hear downtown bustling, so if your sensitive to that it would be an issue, it wasn't for me.” Oct 11, 2007 by
Dianna from Moses Lake, WA
“Hotel staff is very helpful and friendly. Very old world ambience. It was a little shabby and could use some updated things but overall very pleased with the price I paid to stay here and will stay here again.” Oct 8, 2007 by
Steve from Idaho Falls, ID
“Hotel has no general parking, no restaurant for breakfast, bathrooms so small you had to back in walkout. Should be removed from you list not worth the money!” Oct 4, 2007 by
Bill from Toledo, OH
“We stayed in the rid path while traveling through Spokane toward Seattle. We declined the $15 valet parking in favor of metered street parking which normally has a 1.5 hour limit. However, we stayed there on a Sunday night which meant as long as we checked out before 9 am Monday we wouldn't have to put any coins in the meter. Without knowing anything about the city, the staff on duty was very helpful in directing us to a bar/restaurant for night activities as well as a quaint diner for breakfast the next morning, since breakfast wasn't offered on Monday mornings. The hotel was clean and quiet, and we had a fairly nice view to the west of the rest of downtown. While the bathroom in our hotel had a small crack in the ceiling and one of the lamps had a burned out light bulb, the free Wi-Fi and general cleanliness of the entire hotel, including our room, made this hotel an excellent value.” Oct 2, 2007 by
Pam from Mercer Island, WA
“The Rid path is very conveniently located in downtown Spokane. There is absolutely no breakfast service, only coffee in the lobby. I was visiting my son at a nearby University and there were many hotels closer with better service and amenities.” Sep 26, 2007 by
Keith from Green Bay, WI
“Overall good value.” Sep 25, 2007 by
Patrick from Richland, WA
“The rid path has been a part of Spokane for a long time. I like staying there because the hotel is historic. Since I last stayed there, the silver grill restaurant has been remodeled, and is now the artisan room. The hotel is now owned by the owner of the artisan hotel in Las Vegas. The lobby and public areas have been cleaned up, but the colors are darker. The artisan room the food was excellent, and on Thursday night they had a swing jazz band performing. However, on Friday night it was hip-hop, and the place was packed with young club goers. Not my cup of tea. The room was clean, but as this hotel goes the rooms are small, the bathroom is small. The hotel remains under renovation, which should be completed in the next 12 months. The hotel is not yet serving breakfast on weekdays, however, that should start up in the next 90 days or so. The valet parking is $15.00 a day. So its best to get a good rate. There are more convenient hotels, and some that offer more value for $$$'s, but this hotel is interesting, downtown, and is a hotel, not a motor inn, motel, or motel six. I would stay hear again, but if I am looking for the most value for my dollar I can stay at the travel lodge, which is a good business hotel. I stay here because it is an interesting place.” Sep 14, 2007 by
Melba from Sunnyside, WA
“Great location, right downtown. Courteous valet parking. All non-smoking rooms. Beautiful artwork in public spaces. Good value for the money.” Sep 14, 2007 by
Mary from West Richland, WA
“Very clean. Excellent staff. Charged $15.00 a night for parking.” Sep 12, 2007 by
Tamara from Kalispell, MT
“My overall experience was not very pleasant. I was not impressed with the hotel and felt that we over paid for our room. It was not worth what we paid for it. I was extremely disappointed, but at least the hotel staff was friendly and helpful.” Sep 7, 2007 by
Mark from Stevensville, MT
“We visited Spokane for "Pig Out In the Park" on Labor Day weekend 2007. The Ridpath was very convenient to Riverfront Park. We learned that there is a $15 daily charge for parking when we read earlier reviews of this hotel and since Spokane does not collect parking fares on Sunday or holidays (Labor Day), we elected to park on the street. The clerk who checked us in was pleasant. Our room on the 11th floor was small, but had all the necessary conveniences. Then floor had black marks on the carpet, but the rest of the room was clean. We appreciated that they use glass drinking glasses instead of plastic ones. The ice machine on the 10th floor did not work, so we got our ice from the 8th floor machine. Each day of our stay, our key cards deactivated after noon. I would have thought that after the first deactivation, the clerk would get it right, but I was mistaken. I found this very annoying. The room was extremely quiet even though the hotel had a wedding party staying there as well. We were disappointed with the parking, the dirt (black marks on the carpet and dried spit on the wall of the elevator), and the annoyance of the key cards expiring. We were happy with the downtown location (walk to "Pig Out") and the quiet room.” Aug 30, 2007 by
Don from Olympia, WA
“Lot's better than last time, although it is only 2 stars in my book. Front desk staff seems put-out having to check me in. I continue to wonder who is in charge as there was lots of squabbling between staff members.” Aug 29, 2007 by
Roni from Dover, NH
“The hotel was a good business type hotel. The restaurant looked very nice with smallish rooms. We stopped in the lounge for a drink and it was quite nice and the personnel were great. They did not offer free parking, a complimentary continental breakfast, or a pool which were disappointments; they did have a fitness room.” Aug 25, 2007 by
Priscilla from Calgary, AB CA
“Great stay for the price paid. I would never pay the full price for this hotel though unless you love a hard bed. Valet parking was very quick, but a bit pricey for $15 a night. Would not recommend street parking in this area, which is the only other option.” Aug 22, 2007 by
Tim from Tacoma, WA
“After reading the reviews of the hotel, we braced for the worse, knowing that we would depend on air conditioning in Spokane in August. What we found instead was very helpful and cheerful staff, but a general lack of investment in the facilities themselves--ice machines on every other floor (and the two above and below were broken), old towels, painted tile. It was interesting to note that even though all over the hotel you see "West Coast Rid path", you cannot access it through Red Lion/West Coasts website. This showed in the facilities--like an old hotel with lots of charm that just generally doesn't have a lot of money pumped into it to keep it going. The desk person put us all on top floors to avoid traffic noise (there were two car shows in town that weekend), and well, the air conditioning worked. The drains may have been slow, but the stay was comfortable.” Aug 22, 2007 by
Lyn from Richland, WA
“I would never stay at this hotel again. We were in Spokane for a soccer tournament. We had to park on the street or pay $15 per night to park. We came back from the tournament and had no water for showers. They changed our room and our air conditioner was so loud, it sounded like a train was going by all night long. Beds were lumpy and uncomfortable. We were very disappointed.” Aug 22, 2007 by
Steve from Cheyenne, WY
“Bathroom had old lush mechanism, like a men's room, carpet not clean, very firm mattress, large room, and staff was helpful. Parking was limited and expensive.” Aug 21, 2007 by
Carol from Anaconda, MT
“Being remodeled, dark feeling, stayed there in the past and it's losing its appeal.”
