• Kudos to front desk worker! Great room with a nice flat screen and big comfy king bed.
• Mushy pillows for sleeping. Not really recommended for people staying with young children.

“We loved the Hilton Checkers! It was our first stay for 5 nights on October 16th. Very friendly and helpful front desk personnel. Our room was great. Comfy bed, soft pillows was the only downfall. Just way too mushy and there was nothing to them. Great views from the windows and the rooftop pool is small but beautiful at night all lit up with great views of downtown Los Angeles. My husband and I were there on business and the Hilton was convenient to his office which was a block away. We did rent a car and had the hotel valet park it. Almost $40 a day to park with taxes and all, but because it was business it didn't matter to us too much because we weren't paying that bill. We ate breakfast in the hotel's restaurant every morning. Serve and food was very good. I would stay again.”

• The rooftop pool was a lot of fun with the kids.
• The parking fee was very expensive.

“We had a great time staying here with our very young children. The pool was on the rooftop and heated well. We enjoyed the Jacuzzi as well. The staff was really nice and helpful. The beds were very comfortable and clean! Overall we really like this hotel and would stay here again.”

• Appearance was lovely. Friendly staff. Room was nice.
• No where to park! No sun on pool in afternoon.

“The hotel was very nice, but there is no parking except for valet, which cost nearly forty dollars. I found a $25 lot a couple of blocks away, but not safe to walk to it at night, so I had to stay in at the hotel. I headed up to the pool upon check-in at 4 PM, but there was no sun, and it was a small rooftop pool and lounging area. The bar was comfortable. The staff was great. Loved the hotel, but not the parking or the pool. Also, the big earthquake happened while I was in the room and the once-a-year annual testing of the fire alarm system happened the next morning! Didn't pick a great day to get away from it all, which was the purpose of this trip.”

“The hotel was essentially fine. The pool was very small but comfortable. The parking is absolutely ridiculous. The parking cost of $40 was more. I don't know what Priceline can do about this, but it's really outrageous.”

• Excellent staff, hotel room, and location.
• Parking was on the higher-end; TV channels were not in HD.

“The Hilton Checkers was more than we had expected. The hotel staff was extremely in-tune with our needs and made us feel like we were regulars. Upon discovering it was my boyfriend's birthday, the hotel sent a complimentary dessert to our room. We called down to the valet whenever we needed our car, and every time it waiting for us. Because of this special treatment, we will stay at the Checkers every chance we get.”

• Staff was friendly.
• Parking was ridiculous. Got stuck with a smoking room despite paying for non smoking.

“Be sure not to self-park, I didn't know that only through valet parking do you not have to pay for parking and ended up paying $2.25 for every 15 minutes. The surrounding area isn't safe after midnight. Otherwise a decent hotel, friendly staff, and just barely within walking distance of Staples Center.”

• Rooms are too small.

“Parking is too expensive, it's $38.50 per night. They charged me twice for the parking although I only stayed for one night so I had to call them up and get it fixed. Room was too small and smelly. Only thing that I liked about the stay is the bed.”

• The staff was all very helpful, friendly and courteous.
• It would've been a little more convenient if the restaurant in the hotel stayed open to a later time.

• Day we checked in, the pool was closed early for an event.

“We enjoyed our stay at the Hilton Checkers. We had looked forward to hanging out on at the roof top pool when we checked in, but it was already closed (3:30 PM) for an evening event. Breakfast was great.”

• The architecture was beautiful. The staff was extremely friendly and welcoming.
• It was convenient to have valet; however it was really expensive.

“The hotel location was convenient. Walking distance to coffee shops, the mall and restaurants. It was also near the freeways. The rooms were really small; although the comfort of the beds made up for it.”

• I wish access hours to the rooftop were extended.

“Very nice room. Nice bathroom! Didn't like the mini fridge. All beat up, and no space in the room for it really. Other than that, the staff was great. And the rooftop is great!”

• The hotel staff was very professional.
• The fire alarm went off at 3:40 am and all the staff could say was "sorry for the trouble" and it kept going off intermittently.

“Nicely appointed hotel, with small rooms, but nice amenities. The street below was rather noisy, but not too noticeable when the heavy drapes were drawn. The toilet was leaking, and the bathtub drain was clogged; but these were fixed very quickly after we called downstairs to complain.”

• Checkers is a very fine small "boutique" hotel. I always find comfortable.
• Housekeeping not up to usual par. I had a dirty coffee cup placed back in the coffee service.

“Hilton Checkers is one of my preferred Downtown Los Angeles stops. I have stayed there for both Business and leisure and find it to be a very nice comfortable hotel.”

“The front desk is excellent. In fact all the staff is very friendly and professional. It is close to the subway line and most everything Downtown. We either did the metro or walk. Did not bring a car. Strongly recommend!”

“This hotel's quality far exceeded its price. The ambience was very nice, especially considering the low rate. I was very impressed. Parking was a breeze, service was excellent, there was broadband in the rooms, and again, the rooms were very luxurious and comfortable.”

• Staff was nice; hotel was clean and very attractive.
• The bed.

“Complained to management in the morning. The bed sheets were so poorly put on the bed I had to get up and see why my feet felt like they were on wrinkled cloth. They had been folded over about 12-18 inches into bed from the foot, and nothing was tucked under mattress. The pillows were nearly non existent. They look great, but there is nothing there. All in all I was awake all night trying to sleep. Other than the bed (which is extremely important) the hotel was great and did a great job for me it would be a four star if not for the bed problem. The man I spoke with said he would tell the housekeeping supervisor that was his only comment.”

“If you are planning on doing sightseeing in la, this location was not very good. Also, we were not aware the parking would be so expensive. We ended up getting valet parking because the garage charged you per day.”

• The room was spacious, and beautiful. The sheets were soft, looked brand new, the furniture all looked so new, and the bathroom was huge and beautiful.
• Parking was a little hard to find, unless you did valet, which was a bit spend. But overall worth it.

“The hotel was beautiful; the rooms were large and looked brand new. Very comfortable, and welcoming. The Hilton checkers was the best hotel we've ever stayed in; the rooms were just perfect, and the bathrooms too, very open and classy.”

• I liked the area the hotel was very nice and close to a lot of places.
• The price for the valet parking was overpriced and I had to pay an extra $2.50 just so I was able to go in and out of the hotel.

“I really liked the hotel it was very nice and It wasn't noisy at all. I expected a lot of noise because of the location, but was pleased to find out how quit the hotel was. The beds were so comfortable, I slept very well. It was in the better part of Downtown so there wasnt any problem. Overall I had a great time staying in this hotel.”

• The staff at the hotel was amazing, so kind & very accommodating.
• The rooms were smaller than I expected.

“Overall this hotel is nice. The location is in an area where there is not a lot of choices for food. We did order room service one night and the staff was very accommodating to our 3 year old daughter. They do not have a children's menu and they made her a grilled cheese. The spa at the hotel was ok. I have been to many spas. I had 2 treatments done, that were satisfactory. The guest rooms were nice, however they were small. There was no bathtub in the room another downer, especially when you have a child under a year old. The hotel is definitely reared more towards business travelers, not a family property. We missed the pool experience due to a private party.”

• The hotel is a small boutique hotel. There are actually 10 stories or so but it makes you feel as if you are the only person there. 24 hr room service.
• $26 parking fee per day.

“I wished I had booked more than an overnight stay. One of la's best restaurants in on the property and a wonderful view of la can be had from the roof. Loved it. What a find.”

• Full length mirrors in the room and bathroom were a nice touch.
• The comforter smelled they should switch to duvets.

• Clean and nice gym facility.
• Parking fee was outrageous; room seemed congested by the beds and furniture.

“Stayed here for a weekend leisure trip. First of all, the parking fee was ridiculous 28 bucks a night. I thought the hotel would be larger with more spacious rooms. Lobby etc. Having said that, there were some plus points such as the gym and steam, sauna facilities as well as the business center. For the price, in retrospect, a courtyard Marriott type accommodation may offer better value for the money. I've found that while that may not be as luxurious, that typically there the rooms are more spacious, parking is not extra, and also most times continental breakfast is included.”
