  • Lovely roof top pool.
  • It was like staying in the middle of a crowded trendy nightclub.

“Very disappointing for a four star hotel (actually it's far from a four star hotel). Small, poorly decorated rooms (a leather wall behind the bed and mirrored beams on the ceiling, oh please). We tried to take a quick tour of the roof top pool one evening and were literally evicted by a belligerent security man who demanded that we leave immediately 10 minutes before the place was to close (I guess he wanted to go home). Car recovery took 30 minutes. Otherwise service was adequately but far from gracious. Lobby was routinely packed with drunks coming and going from the rooftop bar.”

  • The staff is extremely rude.

“The staff is extremely rude, pool closes at 6 pm and turns into a night club. The problem I had is that not any staff member, hotel guide, or phone operator when asked communicated this information. I could understand 8 pm but not 6 pm. The staff has no idea what is going on and when spoken to the staff is extremely rude.”

“The Thompson was a beautiful hotel in a great location. It felt very luxurious, clean, and welcoming. The rooftop pool was amazing - great views and a nice bar too, it was just too cold during our January visit to use it. The fitness center is very nice and has great equipment. The staff went above and beyond to make sure we had a lovely, romantic stay while we celebrated my husband's birthday.”

“Nice place for a couple that wants to shop or window shop in Beverly Hills. Decor is a bit too edgy for my taste, but the beds were the most comfortable beds ever! Front desk staff was very nice in person, not so much over the phone; information given was not consistent.”

  • Great location with friendly helpful staff, an easy, pleasant stay.
  • The rooms are not well insulated from hallway noise, so be prepared for that.

“This hotel has a unique, sort of hip modern retro look about it. Valet, bell & front desk staff are friendly and helpful. Rooms are very nice and well equipped. Large Plasma TV, nice large stand up shower in the bathroom, overall very comfortable. The restaurant is excellent with an electric atmosphere, but very expensive, especially since the portions are small, but beautifully presented. I recommend this hotel for singles and couples under 40, and do not recommend it for families.”

  • Fabulous location, unique decor but a bit to "cold" and unfriendly feeling".
  • Slow elevators, housekeeping not so good, no coffee pot or free coffee.

“They are trying to be upscale, but need more management. Nice gym equipment, but things not working (cable TV broken, machines broken). Pool area not staffed well. Had to ask to get our room cleaned up the second day. Unbelievable slow service in the restaurant and the smallest portions I have ever seen. I don't expect "Big Boy's, but give us a little more food for that price. Good: fun, young atmosphere, best location around, good sound-proofing in room (we were right next to elevator and couldn't hear anything outside the room), nice beds, interesting interior design.”

  • Incredibly cool. We hung out with a famous movie star on the roof.
  • Very pricy.

“The Thompson Beverly Hills is extremely cool, from the Ferrari's in the garage even down to the black light switches. This is a place for wealthy hipsters to hang out in style. The rooftop is closed to hotel guests only and is amazing, with beautiful views of the surrounding valley. Not at all a place for kids. I felt a little out of my league there as everyone was so cool. Think a hotel that is more like a trendy nightclub. You will probably find some famous guests on the roof, we did.”

  • Under construction so had some noise.

“This is the former Best Western and it is under going a fabulous transformation. They are making it a very chic and hip boutique hotel. It is a fabulous location just a few blocks from Rodeo drive. They are still working on the property, so there was some construction noise, but otherwise it was a great stay.”

  • The walls were a bit thin-we could hear people in other rooms.

“My friend and I were traveling in the Beverly Hills area and stayed at the Thompson. The staff was extremely friendly and helpful. The overall feel of the hotel was trendy and hip. Our room was clean and well decorated. It's definitely a trendy style hotel so I wouldn't recommend it to anyone who doesn't like that style or for families. The one complaint we had was just that the walls were quite thin and we could hear noises from other rooms pretty clearly. .”

  • The hotel lacked basic amenities- no coffee maker and ice had to be delivered by room service.

  • Did not have business office nor good concierge service, but they made up for it anyway at the front desk very helpful.

“I would highly recommend this hotel. You can't find a better hotel in the area for the type. It's small hotel, very hip, like the better, the W is far too hip this is just right, and it's clean and great staff and service. Big bath room, the room itself wasn't big but it wasn't small either, large plasma TV, room service, restaurant and lounge downstairs, still working on pool on roof, but I would definitely go back.”

  • They did not give us two double beds and made us pay extra for an upgrade; construction woke us up.

“Swanky atmosphere with lots of dark wood and mirrors throughout. Loved the comfy beds and fresh bath products. Some of the light fixtures, while artsy, were inconvenient and hard to figure out how to turn on. They are still completing construction on the upper floors and I was woken up by the sounds of a construction crew outside my window. Good facilities and location overall.”

  • This place is small, dark and unbelievably noisy. I would never stay there again.

“The noise is a huge problem, it is not because of the construction it is all traffic related. The hotel is not sound proof at all. If you want a hotel that you don't need sleep at, this is the place to stay. The best part is the beds were very comfortable, but you really cannot imagine how much noise there is all night long. The parking cost more than my rental car, and then we were evacuated in the middle of the night 04/27 because of a fire and there was nothing for our inconvenience and by then I was so delirious from being tired I did not have the energy to argue. I asked them if they would credit my parking of $84 and they said no. So That was that. The location is good for shopping but the hotel offers no ice machines or any soda/water machines, you have to pay very high dollar out of the mini bar or go without. I think a coke was $4. I have been to LA many times and my favorite place remains the Renaissance Marriott at Hollywood and Highland. If they are not on your list they should be. The pool, fitness center and roof top facilities are not open either. I am usually a really good traveler and give great reviews but I cannot be positive from this stay. I don't care if I bought my package at the 7-Eleven the fact remains the facility is noisy, noisy, incomplete and it is what it is. I would not recommend this place.”

  • The pool was closed for construction but they sent me to their sister hotel.

I wish the lights in the bathroom were a little brighter, it was difficult to apply makeup in such a dark mirror, and otherwise the bathroom was gorgeous too.”

  • Not family friendly. Tiny rooms.

“For those traveling to Beverly hills, expect tiny rooms unless you are in a suite. Traveling with a family of four, make sure you get a mainstream hotel chain, not a boutique hotel. This hotel was not accommodating to having a 2 bed room without an upgrade fee. Not acceptable!”

  • It was very clean, service was excellent, and staff very friendly.
  • The only complaint is the bathroom lighting was too dark for makeup application.

“This hotel is in a safe, convenient location. The rooms were very comfortable and service was first class. I would recommend this hotel to everyone. Lighting in the bathroom needs to be brighter around the mirror for women while applying makeup. Restaurant downstairs was hopping at night.”

“Hotel was under renovation. I had a room with scaffolding attached to the windows, and the construction elevator traveled up and down throughout the morning and afternoon directly outside my window. When I asked to move, they had no other rooms available on the other side of the building. Booked the hotel on the assumption of being able to have two beds. Discovered that they only have 8 double bed rooms, so I had to pay an additional $40 per night for that accommodation. This hotel is in a good location for someone who wants to shop, but not if you're looking for an afternoon cocktail or nighttime activity. Parking fee of $28 per day was a pain, but better than getting a ticket for overnight parking on the side streets. ($45).”

“We loved it and got a kick out of the sleek touches. The lobby/bar/lounge was a bit noisy but I think there was some Hollywood party going on. The construction/renovation looked like it was almost complete and did not affect my in laws. I would recommend this place. Probably a 3.5 star rating in my book.”
