“Very disappointing for a four star hotel (actually it's far from a four star hotel). Small, poorly decorated rooms (a leather wall behind the bed and mirrored beams on the ceiling, oh please). We tried to take a quick tour of the roof top pool one evening and were literally evicted by a belligerent security man who demanded that we leave immediately 10 minutes before the place was to close (I guess he wanted to go home). Car recovery took 30 minutes. Otherwise service was adequately but far from gracious. Lobby was routinely packed with drunks coming and going from the rooftop bar.” Aug 13, 2009 by
Brian from Dallas,TX
“The staff is extremely rude, pool closes at 6 pm and turns into a night club. The problem I had is that not any staff member, hotel guide, or phone operator when asked communicated this information. I could understand 8 pm but not 6 pm. The staff has no idea what is going on and when spoken to the staff is extremely rude.” Jun 8, 2009 by
James from San Francisco,CA
“It's a terrific location if you want to be in Beverly Hills. Lots of convenience. Very friendly staff. Great little lobby bar.” Apr 22, 2009 by
Emma from Morrisville,PA “The hotel was nice and clean. The restaurant was basic & overpriced, service was not very good. May be good for businessmen. The staff was not friendly or helpful.” Apr 9, 2009 by
Bob from Los Angeles,CA
“It was small and dark. I needed the space to work on my laptop and the room itself didn't provide that.” Feb 12, 2009 by
Joseph Amram from Dorval,Canada
“We loved the boutique type of hotel, the terrace, the room and the location.” Feb 8, 2009 by
Molly from Minneapolis,MN
“The Thompson was a beautiful hotel in a great location. It felt very luxurious, clean, and welcoming. The rooftop pool was amazing - great views and a nice bar too, it was just too cold during our January visit to use it. The fitness center is very nice and has great equipment. The staff went above and beyond to make sure we had a lovely, romantic stay while we celebrated my husband's birthday.” Feb 3, 2009 by
Daron from Charleston,SC
“If sleep is not a priority, then this hotel will work for you. The service is below average. It seemed like the staff was more focused on being cool than serving their guests.” Jan 19, 2009 by
William from San Luis Obispo,CA
“It is a slightly dated trend hotel. The hallways are dark, room numbers hard to read. The rooms are dark but spacious. The bars are small but the rooftop bar and pool are nice with good views.” Jan 9, 2009 by
Lee from San Francisco,CA
“Nice place for a couple that wants to shop or window shop in Beverly Hills. Decor is a bit too edgy for my taste, but the beds were the most comfortable beds ever! Front desk staff was very nice in person, not so much over the phone; information given was not consistent.” Jan 8, 2009 by
Wendy from Carlsbad,CA
“Check in was smooth, everyone was helpful and the hotel interior is modern and fun. The bar in the lobby had a great vibe and my bed was very comfortable. I would definitely stay here again.” Jan 3, 2009 by
from Lakewood,NJ
“The atmosphere is sleazy and not comfortable for people with a decent level of morality.” Nov 17, 2008 by
Brad from Boise,ID
“Very nice hotel with friendly and helpfull staff. Great rooftop bar. A bit noisy but one should expect a bit of noise when staying in downtown LA.” Oct 31, 2008 by
Tim
“The hotel is overrated due to the cost, I felt as if the room was a motel 6 with marble.” Sep 14, 2008 by
Brent from San Luis Obispo, CA
“This hotel has a unique, sort of hip modern retro look about it. Valet, bell & front desk staff are friendly and helpful. Rooms are very nice and well equipped. Large Plasma TV, nice large stand up shower in the bathroom, overall very comfortable. The restaurant is excellent with an electric atmosphere, but very expensive, especially since the portions are small, but beautifully presented. I recommend this hotel for singles and couples under 40, and do not recommend it for families.” Sep 14, 2008 by
Sd from Austin, TX
“Very nice - well decorated. Although rooms were a little small and balcony was pointlessly small. Still, a nice place.” Aug 24, 2008 by
Chz from Houston, TX
“Super stylish and upscale, 4 stars, great for young couples but not good for families. Street noise was very loud. Close to Rodeo drive, but too far from any freeway.” Aug 20, 2008 by
Robin from Cardiff, CA
“They are trying to be upscale, but need more management. Nice gym equipment, but things not working (cable TV broken, machines broken). Pool area not staffed well. Had to ask to get our room cleaned up the second day. Unbelievable slow service in the restaurant and the smallest portions I have ever seen. I don't expect "Big Boy's, but give us a little more food for that price. Good: fun, young atmosphere, best location around, good sound-proofing in room (we were right next to elevator and couldn't hear anything outside the room), nice beds, interesting interior design.” Aug 13, 2008 by
Jamara from Dania Beach, FL
“Good location, friendly staff - generally overpriced.” Aug 13, 2008 by
Jeff from Chula Vista, CA
“The Thompson Beverly Hills is extremely cool, from the Ferrari's in the garage even down to the black light switches. This is a place for wealthy hipsters to hang out in style. The rooftop is closed to hotel guests only and is amazing, with beautiful views of the surrounding valley. Not at all a place for kids. I felt a little out of my league there as everyone was so cool. Think a hotel that is more like a trendy nightclub. You will probably find some famous guests on the roof, we did.” Jul 20, 2008 by
Steve from Waldwick, NJ
“Nothing but an amazing hotel. The rooms are fantastic. Very modern and comfortable.” Jul 15, 2008 by
Eileen S. from Emeryville, CA
“This is a cool trendy hotel with excellent service.” Jul 3, 2008 by
Nanci from Orlando, FL
“Excellent hotel. From the location, cleanliness to the customer service. Everything was impressive. I would recommend this hotel and stay there again.” Jun 4, 2008 by
Emily from Woodland, CA
“This hotel is a perfect getaway for people who are looking for some exciting romance. The staff could be friendlier, but their attitude matches the swanky decor and LA vibe. I would stay here again.” Jun 1, 2008 by
Keith from Rancho Mirage, CA
“This is the former Best Western and it is under going a fabulous transformation. They are making it a very chic and hip boutique hotel. It is a fabulous location just a few blocks from Rodeo drive. They are still working on the property, so there was some construction noise, but otherwise it was a great stay.” May 25, 2008 by
Jen from Minneapolis, MN
“My friend and I were traveling in the Beverly Hills area and stayed at the Thompson. The staff was extremely friendly and helpful. The overall feel of the hotel was trendy and hip. Our room was clean and well decorated. It's definitely a trendy style hotel so I wouldn't recommend it to anyone who doesn't like that style or for families. The one complaint we had was just that the walls were quite thin and we could hear noises from other rooms pretty clearly. .” May 24, 2008 by
Kari from Seattle, WA
“Loved this hotel! Great design (hallways and room). Hip nightspot (bar, restaurant, spa, etc). Good location. Only unfortunate part is that it was 100'F in LA for the weekend and the rooftop deck and pool were inaccessible as it was still unfinished (hotel is newly being renovated).” May 21, 2008 by
Steve from St Louis, MO
“Good hotel.” May 21, 2008 by
Akl from Santa Barbara, CA
“Pleasantly surprised! Beautiful decor, feels like a small, intimate hotel. Nicely done. A thousand times better than the Standard on Sunset (where we stayed a few months back). Great location.” May 20, 2008 by
Jason from Las Vegas, NV
“Over all, the hotel was very nice and had a very friendly staff. It felt like we were in a night club for our entire stay) Be warned $28 a night for parking, expensive even for Beverly Hills. No coffee maker and ice needed to be delivered by room service. One huge plus was free wireless internet!” May 5, 2008 by
Grace from Norwood, MA
“I would highly recommend this hotel. You can't find a better hotel in the area for the type. It's small hotel, very hip, like the better, the W is far too hip this is just right, and it's clean and great staff and service. Big bath room, the room itself wasn't big but it wasn't small either, large plasma TV, room service, restaurant and lounge downstairs, still working on pool on roof, but I would definitely go back.” May 5, 2008 by
Natalie from New York, NY
“Swanky atmosphere with lots of dark wood and mirrors throughout. Loved the comfy beds and fresh bath products. Some of the light fixtures, while artsy, were inconvenient and hard to figure out how to turn on. They are still completing construction on the upper floors and I was woken up by the sounds of a construction crew outside my window. Good facilities and location overall.” May 2, 2008 by
N. from Santa Maria, CA
“Ok for one night stay. All the staff was great. The noise was unacceptable in the room. Heard doors slamming all day and night, seemed like there were no windows in the room, could hear any noise from outside and the bathrooms did not have any space for toiletries.” May 1, 2008 by
Sheila from Lees Summit, MO
“The noise is a huge problem, it is not because of the construction it is all traffic related. The hotel is not sound proof at all. If you want a hotel that you don't need sleep at, this is the place to stay. The best part is the beds were very comfortable, but you really cannot imagine how much noise there is all night long. The parking cost more than my rental car, and then we were evacuated in the middle of the night 04/27 because of a fire and there was nothing for our inconvenience and by then I was so delirious from being tired I did not have the energy to argue. I asked them if they would credit my parking of $84 and they said no. So That was that. The location is good for shopping but the hotel offers no ice machines or any soda/water machines, you have to pay very high dollar out of the mini bar or go without. I think a coke was $4. I have been to LA many times and my favorite place remains the Renaissance Marriott at Hollywood and Highland. If they are not on your list they should be. The pool, fitness center and roof top facilities are not open either. I am usually a really good traveler and give great reviews but I cannot be positive from this stay. I don't care if I bought my package at the 7-Eleven the fact remains the facility is noisy, noisy, incomplete and it is what it is. I would not recommend this place.” Apr 18, 2008 by
Mary K. from Lisle, IL
“The rooms were great. The walls were not soundproof. Location is great. $28.00 per day parking is high. Staff is very accommodating. I would certainly stay here again.” Apr 7, 2008 by
Red from Fallbrook, CA
“What a great hotel! Staff was friendly and very knowledgeable. It was very chic and the bedding was heavenly. I actually miss my hotel pillow! I wish the lights in the bathroom were a little brighter, it was difficult to apply makeup in such a dark mirror, and otherwise the bathroom was gorgeous too.” Apr 6, 2008 by
Kari from Mcfarland, WI
“The hotel had a very nice appearance and the staff was top notch. I do suggest they add additional lighting in the rooms. It was too dark. This hotel seems to still be under construction. The pool and roof top deck were no where near done.” Apr 2, 2008 by
Dave from San Diego, CA
“Chic, upscale hotel with youthful and hip clientele. Rooms are very stylish although a bit on the small side.” Apr 2, 2008 by
Sharon from Sacramento, CA
“Part of my attraction to the hotel was the rooftop bar and pool, I get there it won't even open until next month! I would have chosen a different hotel had I known.” Apr 2, 2008 by
Mercedes from San Marcos, CA
“For those traveling to Beverly hills, expect tiny rooms unless you are in a suite. Traveling with a family of four, make sure you get a mainstream hotel chain, not a boutique hotel. This hotel was not accommodating to having a 2 bed room without an upgrade fee. Not acceptable!” Apr 1, 2008 by
Melanie from Fresno, CA
“Excellent establishment! Very contemporary and elegant yet with friendly and helpful staff.” Mar 31, 2008 by
Ralph from Palm Springs, CA
“The location is great within walking distance to nice restaurants and shopping. The valet parking is exorbitantly priced and should be mentioned in the description of hotel services, charges, etc.” Mar 24, 2008 by
David from Templeton, CA
“Parking is $28.00 a day. No top sheet on bed, only a comforter. No individual heat control in room. Corners of bed very easy to stumble over. I cannot recommend this hotel.” Mar 23, 2008 by
Suze from Ridgefield, CT
“Every small touch is seen to in this well-located hotel full of style and excellent service.” Mar 19, 2008 by
Denise from Summerfield, NC
“This hotel is in a safe, convenient location. The rooms were very comfortable and service was first class. I would recommend this hotel to everyone. Lighting in the bathroom needs to be brighter around the mirror for women while applying makeup. Restaurant downstairs was hopping at night.” Mar 12, 2008 by
Arvin S. from San Diego, CA
“It looks like they just tried to update a best western.” Mar 11, 2008 by
Mark from Pleasanton, CA
“This was a fun, trendy hotel just a short walk from Beverly Drive and Rodeo Drive.” Mar 11, 2008 by
Doug from Gilbert, AZ
“Hotel was under renovation. I had a room with scaffolding attached to the windows, and the construction elevator traveled up and down throughout the morning and afternoon directly outside my window. When I asked to move, they had no other rooms available on the other side of the building. Booked the hotel on the assumption of being able to have two beds. Discovered that they only have 8 double bed rooms, so I had to pay an additional $40 per night for that accommodation. This hotel is in a good location for someone who wants to shop, but not if you're looking for an afternoon cocktail or nighttime activity. Parking fee of $28 per day was a pain, but better than getting a ticket for overnight parking on the side streets. ($45).” Mar 1, 2008 by
David from Tempe, AZ
“Not much better in the heart of Beverly Hills. A true hot spot hotel! If your going to Beverly Hills you have to at least stop there if not stay!” Feb 27, 2008 by
King from Los Angeles, CA
“We loved it and got a kick out of the sleek touches. The lobby/bar/lounge was a bit noisy but I think there was some Hollywood party going on. The construction/renovation looked like it was almost complete and did not affect my in laws. I would recommend this place. Probably a 3.5 star rating in my book.”
