• Spacious rooms!
• Close enough to everything by car, sort of close enough by foot but not close enough.

“Attractive hotel very close to freeway on 4th. Loved the size of the rooms, but pretty much no view. Valet parking was only $4/day higher than self park, not including tips. Would have preferred to self park for free though. Pool is a bit small and not enough chairs and chaise the two times we were at the pool. Great fitness room.”

• Great beds. Slept well.
• Had to pay for parking overnight.

“It is a great hotel, clean with excellent linens and bedding. Slept really well. It is a bit of a walk to the beach and the Pier not to bad about 5-10 minutes depending on the walker. My kiddos 7 and 9 were tired on the walk back to the hotel from the beach and did complain a bit also, there are quiet a few homeless people in the area. We had no problems though and would go back.”

• Great location in Santa Monica.
• Restaurant was very expensive and not very good.

“I got an excellent deal on Priceline. The trouble was I could not ask for 2 beds and the hotel would not take my request over the phone. I had to wait to get there to ask for a room with two beds. The front desk clerk was so sweet she gave me a suite.”

• The location, the free internet that worked well.
• The pool wasn't cleaned right away in the AM, one of the days.

“I travel all the time for business in much more expensive hotels located very close to this one. This hotel not only provided a better experience (no pool scene, no drunk beautiful people to wade through every night, no pricey internet that only half worked,) but also a better night sleep due to the quality of the linens and beds. All this, and a warm chocolate chip cookie every time my little boy asked (once a day was all I'd allow, but still!”

• There were no umbrellas at the pool area for shade. The over night parking procedure confusing & expensive.

• Suite rooms were generous in size and parking was convenient.
• Though convenient, parking was a significant cost in addition to the room. No fan in bathroom.

“This hotel was very clean and the facilities were quite nice. The suite was especially nice since one of us could sleep in while the other watched TV or used the computer. No fan in the bathroom was the only minus about the room, which was otherwise comfortable. The parking was also convenient, though pricey. We did not interact with staff except at check-in and check-out, but the interaction we had was pleasant.”

• Staff was very friendly and helpful.

“The only thing I didn't like was the suite sitting area which wasn't that nice. I hated the smoking room because it felt dirty and smelled. However there was no problem changing rooms the next day when a non-smoking was available. The room was not ready when we arrived in the evening so the hotel treated us to dinner. Unfortunately the food was mediocre and I would never eat there while paying the inflated prices. Nice location, nice staff, comfortable bed but ugly rooms.”

• Friendly, clean, convenient, great location, chocolate chip cookies.
• I wish that they would have had a soda/juice vendor on the floors. Had to wait until the gift shop opened to get drinks.

“The hotel staff was outstanding. They were incredibly helpful with any questions we had. Everyone always had a smile on their faces and greeted us whenever we left or returned. The bed was extremely comfortable, the room was large and very clean with great windows.”

• I liked that 5 persons could stay together in a room (our kids are 5, 6 and 8).
• Our original room had a view of garbage bins and a homeless shelter. Walking anywhere was out of the question, what with the freeway and the busy streets.

“Very disappointed. Not all rooms have balconies or mini fridge. Hope and pray u don't get the view of the homeless shelter perched just beyond the loud 10 freeway. Pool never stocked with towels to dry ourselves. Waited 1 hour in cold and soaking wet even though I called hotel operator at least four times. Hotel is ok maybe if u have kids 12 and over. Not within walking distance of anything for those of us whose families have kids <12. Deadly intersections, precarious young drivers speeding and a freeway to boot! For such families a car is a must and so is the parking fee hotel charges $18/day plus a daily service parking fee they sneak on to checkout bill. Stay away from $24 buffet. Ask for the menu instead, that way our kids don't pay $24 for a bowl of cereal and pancakes they are too full to eat. The menu is better food than buffet anyway.”

• Front desk staff, welcome cookie, bath products.
• Coffee bar hours was not extensive enough.

“Staff was friendly, housekeeping supervisor let herself into our room while we were there, but without our permission. She knocked once and entered with her key at the same time. Room service glasses were in hallway for 1 1/2 days without being taken away. Other than these two things, the hotel was comfortable and staff was friendly.”

• They were very accomodating. upgraded our room, comped the parking; they were great.
• We were only there one night so didn't have a lot of time there.

“This was a very nice hotel. It surpassed what we were expecting. The room was very nice and well maintained. The public areas were beautiful. The staff was friendly and helpful. The hotel is well situated to the Santa Monica pier and the 3rd street Promenade. We used it as a jumping off point to Universal Studios. It's not real close but we preferred the beach local versus the valley.”

“Pricey for what you get but for the area it was to be expected. The room had some problems - shower drain was clogged and there was no caffeinated coffee. They rectified both promptly, however, so that's all you can ask for.”

• I did not like the location of the TV in the living room area.

• The proximity to the water / the marina.
• The quality of the rooms.

“This is not worth the money. The only thing I really liked was the proximity to the marina 3. Otherwise the rooms were just not very nice and the hotel was not very well appointed in general.”

• Comfortable bed and pillows, large room & bath.
• Freeway sound-but not too much a distraction.

“Would highly recommend-and have done so too many people. The facility is convenient in all respects-location, parking, restaurant within-and the rooms are very roomy, clean, and comfortable (especially the bed and associated bedding). The staff has all been extremely courteous and helpful every time we have had the pleasure of staying at doubletree, which has been most appreciated, and which has encouraged us to return.”

• Bed was uncomfortable; TV in living room area was in a shelf on the floor, poor placement.

“We ordered a room with two beds. Turned out they only had a room with a bed and a pullout bed/sofa. So we had some complaints about that from the guest that was staying with us. The TV in the guest/living room area was also mounted on the floor which was poor placement. Hotel location is great with there being lots of things to do in the area and the beach is not far off, it does have the freeway going right behind it though so you'll get allot of road noise/honking. Bed was uncomfortable.”

“Hotel was great! Clean, refreshing design with very kind assistance from the employees and terrace chocolate chip cookies at check-in. The concierge had a superiority complex but everyone else was great. When we checked in and asked about the possibility of two beds instead of one, we were pleasantly upgraded to a suite (yippee!). A couple warnings, though: parking is a hassle. $18 a day for self-park and the card reader was not working (which caused me to need to go back to the front desk a couple of times) also, the extremely high-priced, serve-yourself snacks left in the open in the room are clearly a risk for families with children. Can you believe they are asking $3.75 for a package of 6 Oreo cookies?”

“From the young men outside the entryway to the agents at the desk, they were all very courteous, helpful and professional. There was one young man that took the time to google out a direct route mapped for us, from the hotel to the Reagan library. We so appreciated that!”

• Non smoking room not available and no refrigerator in room.

“Very clean, all interior looks like brand new, location is good, close to highway and all attractions in town. I was disappointed no fridge in room; (we visited local farmers market) and we could not get non smoking room. It would be great if you could offer nonsmoking room.”

“The suite was large and comfortable, but walking out of our room it was always smoky, and we were hoping for a non-smoking room/floor. The hotel seemed to be quite empty so I am not sure why we were put on a smoking floor, with a horrible view.”

• Need better pillow, mattress, and more places to hang things.

• Breakfast buffet had a large and tasty selection of food; staff was extremely nice and helpful; rooms were very clean with comfortable beds.
• Wish the hotel was closer to the beach and pier. There should be a small fridge in the room.

“The double tree suites Santa Monica was the nicest double tree hotel I have stayed in. (even though the rating is just a 3 star, it was nicer than some 4 star hotels. I would rate this hotel a 3 1/2 star.) All of the rooms have a separate living room and bedroom. The beds are very comfortable. The staff at the hotel was amazing and so friendly! The breakfast buffet was very good too. It takes about a 10 minute walk to the Santa Monica pier and the hotel is just minutes away from restaurants and shopping.”

“Borderline fraud with regard to their advertising themselves as a "suite only hotel". The room I had was not a suite and rather small and very ordinary. Obviously, I was not very happy with this.”

• I really enjoyed the location of the pool on the third floor and the buffet breakfast.
• The difficult walk to the beach due to location.

“I rented a room to provide a Mother's Day respite for my girlfriend. We ate dinner in the restaurant which was good/not great. The room was excellent, and the lobby looked like a first class establishment. The staff was friendly and all of them were eager to be of service.”

• Location, cleanliness, updated, friendly staff, big rooms, great for the whole family.

“We had a great experience at this hotel. It is family friendly, clean, newer, and the suites are great for traveling with family. The kids could nap while we watched TV in the other room. It was an easy walk to the beach - with tons of shopping and restaurants nearby. The staff was very nice and helpful. We look forward to returning.”
