• Loved the hotel decor, large, comfortable rooms with very comfortable beds.
• Parking on Saturday night. Right next to convention center.

“I thought this hotel was very comfortable and plush. Staff was super friendly and helpful, too. The only downside was that it is located right next door to the Convention Center and on Saturday night, there was an event of some kind and parking was difficult because people who were supposed to park at the Convention Center which there was a fee for, instead parked at the hotel which left very little or no parking for hotel guests.”

• Everything was perfect, nothing stood out more than another.
• We liked it all.

“We were on our way to San Francisco and this was a good stopping point for over night. The room was very comfortable and the bed made for a good night sleep. A bonus was a Mexican food restaurant within walking distance.”

• Room was clean and comfortable.

“The room was clean and comfortable, especially the fluffy soft towels that smelled of fabric softener rather than bleach. The hotel and room was nicely decorated. We enjoyed the bar downstairs and especially the Starbucks located in the lobby.”

• The
  AC was noisy. Train close by, noisy. The toilet was making a loud obnoxious noise all night long.

• Plenty of free parking. Good location near convention center
• The decor may be a little "last year" but no big -- I'd come back in a heart beat!

• One employee went out of her way to help.
• One employee was not helpful.

“The hotel was easily located next to the convention center and check in was fast. A key was needed to access the elevator and another guest showed us a trick to get it to work. The room was inviting and the bed filled with pillows of varying sizes/shapes. The pool was located outside and at a warm temperature, although the jacuzzi was closed at our visit. There was a very affordable Mexican buffet with the basics in the lounge which provided dinner without leaving the hotel.”

• Rooms were beautiful, very updated. Lobby also very upscale.
• Location. Even though close to convention center, not much else to do.

• We traveled to watch are home town hockey team play, the hotel was very conveniently located next to the arena.

“Very convenient location next to the arena and convention center. Very clean room. Lobby, lounge and restaurant very nice. Our last trip to Bakersfield we stayed at the Hill Top across the street, will never stay there again.

• Hotel is in middle of renovation.

“This hotel is being remodeled so the room was very clean and updated. The radio alarm clock did not work in the room. There is noise from construction even in the early evening hours not just during the daytime hours.”

“Very nice hotel. The lobby, restaurant and bar areas were under remodeling. They did a good job under the circumstances. My rating would have been higher in several categories if the construction were finished. Overall, a nice hotel and will be better in the future.”

• It is conveniently located in the heart of Bakersfield.
• It is in Bakersfield.

“Bakersfield is not a tourist town in California. People stay there not for a vacation but because of a business trip or some sports tournament of their children. The Holiday Inn is very much in the center of Bakersfield, so that you can reach destinations from there easily. However, Bakersfield is also quite stretched out. The rooms have a flat screen TV, the beds are comfortable, and there is modern lighting installed. Internet access is free, which is unusual these days. The food in the restaurant is quite good, given that it is just attached to the hotel.”

• Parking was terrible, ice machine was broken, loud construction directly above our room.

“On more than one occasion there was absolutely nowhere for us to park due to events that were going on at the hotel. The hotel should not host events if they do not have adequate facilities to accommodate both the hotel guests and event attendants. There was loud construction (I mean like jack hammering) in the room directly above ours from 8 to 6 everyday, I guess that is fine if you are traveling on business and won't be in the room during the day, but this was our vacation and we wanted to sleep in and relax, SO ANNOYING! The ice machine on our floor was broken so we had to call room service which in general took at least ten minutes. We ordered room service one night and it took almost an hour for food to arrive, then after they realized they didn't have my card on file and I told them to just come back up and I would give them cash it took another hour for them to come up and get it, meaning the entire ordeal lasted until almost ten o clock at night. I appreciate that they are going through a phase with upgrading the hotel but in the meantime they still need to operate in a manner that coincides with the hotel rating.”

“It was filthy. The base boards were torn off, and the carpet was black with grime. No AC in the hall way and 3 different ice machines didn't work. They must have realized how disgusting the hallway was so they cleaned the carpet at 10:30 pm! The staff was completely rude. My mother in law speaks primarily Portuguese, and they openly mocked her accent. They also bumped her from the free shuttle as they told her taking her to the hospital was not a priority. Taking someone to the bus station was horrid experience!”

• The room was attractive and comfortable.
• Food in the restaurant had very little flavor and was very ordinary.

“This hotel was conveniently located. It was attractive and the room was very comfortable. The flat panel HD TV was a great surprise. The only negative was the restaurant. The food had very little flavor to it. My husband and I each had a different pasta dish and both were not good.”

“Restaurant service was horrible -- I came with a large group and everybody who attempted to eat there had a horror story about having to wait 50 minutes for yogurt, cold oatmeal, etc. Most just got up and left.”

• High speed internet worked well and was free.
• Very close to a constant railroad.

“I was put in a smoking room rather than non-smoking. The smoking rooms at this hotel are not even sprayed when made up; they all smell like they've been smoked in for years (my traveling companion had the same experience in his room). This awful smell plus 17 trains going by blasting horns all night made for a miserable stay. At least they had a bluegrass convention and had people talking, laughing, and singing in the halls late at night. I don't know what else they could have done to keep their guests awake.”

• Construction was taking place above our room, bath was small, carpet stained.

“I hate all holiday inns! I have stayed in several in different cities and they give the appearance of an expensive hotel while their rooms are small and outdated, every room I have stayed in has had stains on the carpet. In this one the heater was so loud it woke us up every time it came on! Bathroom was very small.”

• East side is adjacent to train stop; very noisy b/c of this.

“I would've given higher ratings if it were not for the train. It was difficult to sleep with horn blowing every hour and the rumbling felt like a low-grade earthquake. However, all things considered I would stay here again as it more than suited my needs and staff were very friendly.”

• The bar and restaurant were good.
• The fitness room was in very poor condition. The only chair in the room was a metal stack chair. The shower was poor.

“I was put into a handicap room with out telling me. The shower curtain did not fit the opening, so when you had a shower for was a flood. The fitness room was very poor. Two out of three machines were broken. Since this is important to me. I do not wish to stay at this location again.”

• The location is convenient for my business needs and I liked the free internet access.
• The room had two cheap kitchen chairs and a table for seating.

“Overall the hotel is nice. I had stayed their before but was booked through conference organizers. The room before was much nicer. This room seemed to be one of the hotel's lesser quality rooms - perhaps awaiting remodel. The bed was comfortable and the accommodations were quiet and restful.”

“The towels were bare, the curtains had wear spots you could see through the carpet showed signs of wear. The staff was friendly, the lounge was set up as a sports bar which I liked.”

• The staff is very friendly.
• I woke up every time the upstairs bathroom flushed.

“Everything was fine, the staff was incredibly nice and helpful I would not mind staying there again, The only down side to this experience at the Holiday Inn is that the upstairs bathroom is really loud Every time they flushed they woke me, my Wife and our baby up, besides that it was OK.”

• The Bartender Tim was very professional.
• The blonde female hotel manager was condescending and shallow. Very unprofessional.

“I arrived at the hotel early and was given room 517, which was supposed to be clean. it was not cleaned from the previous guest. it was then cleaned. The TV was just static, so I attempted to call guest services but the phone didn't work either. I went to the lobby and reported it and the situation was fixed. While drinking in the bar, I was attacked by a drunken 'GUEST' and had to take him down to the ground. The other patrons helped get him out of the area, and commented to me that the manager of the hotel should of noticed his behavior during one of her several visits to talk with the bar staff. I agree. Instead I was asked to talk with her out by the pool and was made to feel like the aggressor instead of the victim. I will never stay at this hotel again. Even if it were free.”

• The hotel was clean. Parking was easy. The room was large.
• If on the backside, trains come through often, blowing horns.

“This hotel met my expectations. It's a large hotel, but parking etc. is easy. If you are sensitive to noise, ask for the front section of the hotel, trains run behind the hotel and blow their horns often.”

• Comfortable room, except for the noise.
• Slow service in request from housekeeping; poor service for breakfast in restaurant.

“This hotel was adequate for our needs, and is probably 2 1/2 to 3 stars. It is very close to the train tracks, and the whistles from the train woke us a couple times during the night. There was also a loud party going on in the room next door, with people coming and going frequently, the door slamming every time. However, when the front desk called at 10:15 (we were already in bed!) to check to see if we'd received our sheets, I told them about the party, and it quieted down after that. The restaurant service was slow and not knowledgeable enough during breakfast. On the plus side, the reception was friendly and helpful, pool was fine, things were clean enough.”
