“I was quite worried about staying at this hotel. I was a female traveling by myself and was worried about my safety. I was also concerned about the parking situation, as I was hauling a small trailer. Both concerns were unwarranted. It is not in a bad neighborhood and the parking was secure. The rooms were clean and comfortable. The hotel staff was very helpful and pleasant. I would definitely stay here again if I was traveling to Sac.”

• Absolutely nothing!
• This Clarion was an absolute dump and I would never stay here again.

“Extremely limited parking. Unfriendly staff could not find my reservation. Took about 15 minutes to check in. Locks on room door were broken. Room was 58 degrees - freezing! Bathroom door had a hole kicked in it. Brown splatters on the wall in the bathroom - you guess what it was. Cobwebs hanging off the lamps next to the bed. No internet service despite what they advertised. "It doesn't work too well when it rains" I was told. This Clarion was an absolute dump and I would never stay here again and caution others to avoid it. I have stayed here before and it was ok but it has certainly gone downhill!”

• I was nervous about my safety being Downtown Sac. It was no worries here. Safe, clean, secure parking! Great Place!
• My room didn't have a mini-fridge.

• The rooms did not match the star rating-very basic.

“The hotel staff was very friendly. The lobby and restaurant matched the star rating-prices were a little high in the restaurant though. I wouldn't want to stay there on a long vacation, but one night wasn't too bad.”

“No lounge, diet drinks up stairs were all sold out. No Jacuzzi! No continental breakfast. Nothing special about this hotel to considerate it a 2.5*.”

• Very clean! Fountain in the courtyard was nice & you could open the sliding glass door and sit on the balcony or leave door open during the night.
• Very minor complaint but the parking spaces were incredibly small. That is the only thing and that is being really nit-picky.

The beds were quite comfortable. The staff was very friendly. If I had to say one thing I didn't like it would be a very minor complaint; but the parking spaces were incredibly small. If you have or rented a big vehicle or SUV it would be very tight to get into the space and then get out of the car if the parking lot was full.”

• Way too noisy downstairs.

“This hotel was very clean, pleasant, but way too noisy. We had a downstairs room and it we could hear every step taken upstairs. Also, the hotel is old so the AC heat is a two pipe system and you can't have a/c at night in the fall.”

• Convenient to downtown, staff very friendly, free internet.
• Swimming pool not heated, no hot tub, the shower was mouldy and you could not adjust the shower head.

“This hotel was clean and convenient to the downtown area. The staff was very friendly. Food was ok. Missed having a heated pool and there was no hot tub. The show was mouldy and you could not adjust the shower head. But over all it was a reasonable place for a reasonable price.”

• The view was nice. We had a room that overlooked a reflecting pond with fish.
• Some of the rooms appeared to be under construction, it appeared to be dilapidated in certain areas. The rooms didn't have bath tubs, just showers.

“The hotel is within walking distance of the downtown area and many desirable restaurants. My husband and I enjoyed the history of the area, it is located directly across the street from the governors mansion. This hotel was quaint the building was covered in ivy. The lobby area was beautifully decorated and maintained. Our room was nicely appointed. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay.”

• No free breakfast. No free business center.

“I felt nickel and dimmed at this hotel. I could tell it was very old by just the smell in the hallway. No continental breakfast in the morning, no free business center had to pay something like $6.00 just to print my boarding pass! I left my toothbrush at home and called the front desk for a replacement only to be told they had none and to get one from the vending machine! When I went to the vending machine I did not see any so I went to the front desk to ask if there was another machine and lucky for me the manager was there and had a wrapped toothbrush in his desk that he gave me or I would have been out of luck.”

• They had a big loud motor running all night long at the end of my hall, about 5 doors down. Asbestos evacuation or something. Made it tough to sleep.

• Staff was friendly and helpful. Lobby, restaurant, etc is attractive and warm.
• Second floor and my room had an odor. Window curtain didn't close all the way. Stained carpet and chairs.

“I couldn't sleep because there was a light on right outside my window, and the curtain would not close all the way. If I had known, I would have taken a sleep mask. There was no waste basket, but when I called, they brought one up right away. It does seem to have a unique "personality".”

“I'm not one of those picky travelers who will go off about minutia. I could care less about stains on carpets and slow-draining bathtubs. Those things are bound to happen when zillions of travelers pass through a room. But this was one of more unpleasant hotel experiences I've had lately. Dim room with huge water stains all over ceiling. Mildew smell. Short, squishy beds. I'm 5'4" and my feet hung over the edge of the bed! Unbeatable location if youre partying in downtown Sacto which we were.”

“I asked for a non smoking room which I received but next door was pot smoking individuals which seeped into my room. At 2:00 a.m. What sounded like a helicopter landing on the roof woke me up with noise and vibration. The clerk stated that he would look into it. Again, at 4:00 a.m. It started again and it turned out to be an exhaust fan. Also, the bed had bed bugs in it. They did change my room the next night since I was going to be there for three nights. The room I was changed to had stains on the chairs, the carpet and that bed had bed bugs also. I am totally surprised that this hotel was ranked a 2 in a star rating. It should have been ranked as a 1.”

• The court yard is very relaxing and pretty. You can chill be the pool and not have distractions or nose.
• The room could have been a little cleaner for the area that they are located in. There is a lot of competition in that area.

“Overall this was a nice place for a get way with my husband. The room service was prompt and the staff was very friendly. My only concern was the parking situation because they share with a hotel next door, but it worked out fine. So if your looking for a place to hide from the kids and get some alone time this is a good location.”

• Air conditioning system is ridiculous.

“Everything was nice except that the reason I went there was to sleep which was impossible due to the air conditioning. I was hot and turned it on and fell asleep, then woke up feeing like I was in a sauna minutes later. When I called the front desk I was told that the area I was in had either heat or cold, and that it was on heat. So, if you turned the unit on (either to heat or cold) you get heat. He did switch it and I was able to cool the room off, then turn it off before they switched back to heat. So, I got a couple of hours sleep. But the whole purpose in driving the night before was to get a full night sleep not a couple of hours. So, though all else was good for this hotel, the air conditioning completely ruined my experience.”

• It was clean, staff was friendly and helpful, and breakfast was adequate.
• The doorknob to stairwell was very difficult to open; there was loud music at night from parking lot, even with window closed.

“For a one night last minute stay, this hotel was more than satisfactory. Room was clean and bedding was comfortable. I might be concerned about staying longer with my family since my 8 year old would not have been able to operate the door to the stairwell in an emergency - the knob was broken and took me 9-10 tries to get it to turn.”

• Grand entryway and vines encompassing hotel and providing privacy for balconies - gave it a "rich" European feel.
• Entry door to room could have been more secure - somewhat flimsy locks with no deadbolts.

“It exceeded my expectations with comfortable plushy beds and linens and the towels were nice, fluffy and white Martex - made in the USA! Amenities included Neutrogena products similar to finer hotels and a nice little welcome pack upon check-in. Front desk was super-responsive, too! I definitely recommend this place - especially if you are a baby-boomer, you will appreciate some of the "Retro" 1950 remaining features (check out the door handles on the second floor leading out to the pool area - cool!)”

• No parking space. 2 hotels share the same parking and it isn't big enough for one.
