- Room was awesome, beds very comfy, room service & food was excellent.
- Valet parking only...no self parking (unless you don't mind parking a few blocks away).
“This hotel is old (decorated w/ antiques), but very beautiful and well maintained. Very clean, comfortable, excellent service. Great location (easy access from freeway) and lots of good places to eat within walking distance. Room service food was excellent. I would definitely recommend this hotel, and would stay here again.”

- Hotel does not meet the 3 star requirements.
- Hotel valet parking staff gave my car to another guest, who did not return it in the same condition. Other guest kept my car for entire day & evening
“Hotel does not meet the 3 star requirements. Valet parking costs $18/day; don't count on finding another place to park. Hotel is fine if you like charm, etc. If you want a trouble-free place that is easy to find and park next to, then avoid at all costs.”

- the receptionist did not give good driving directions

- no parking...advertised "free parking" but no spaces available...forced to pay $18 for valet park
“This is a grand old refurbished hotel in downtown San Jose. Parking is a problem and you should plan on paying $18 for valet parking in addition to what you pay for the room. Our room was very large and comfortable...lots of room space but bathroom could have had more room.”

- The building is older but everything is up to date. It has class and charm.
- It was not close to airport
“I loved this hotel. It was an updated 100 year old building, but very classy and with lots of charm. The front desk staff was very helpful in getting me on the freeway to the airport. It is close but not at the airport. The rooms where comfortable and well appointed. I would be happy to stay at this hotel again and the rate of $45 was a great bargain.”

“The location and the historical value of the hotel give it its appeal. The room was clean upon initial check in. Cleaning crew did a poor job in subsequent days. Also the sound proofing was extremely poor. We could hear actual conversations, TV and other activities in the rooms on either side of us.”

- The rooms are great and the bed is so comfortable.
- The hotel does not have a parking garage but it does have a valet service but it will cost you $18 per night.
“This hotel is a historical hotel. The furniture's are great and the rooms are very clean. Everything is great with this hotel except the parking. There are no parking garage but they do have a valet service which will cost you $18 per night. If your lucky, you'll find a public parking for free but you'll have to do some walking. The staffs are friendly. I would stay in this hotel again and especially how cheap I got the room for.”

“The room for us is a single-queen, that's not good for me, my wife, and a 11 month old baby. I told the reception, I reserved a '2-queen, or a king' room. The room is small and smell like a junkyard. I slept on floor in that night. Hyatt gave us credit for next day's breakfast, but we still want to check out, and gave up the money we already paid for Sat night. They promised to move us to another bigger room, and we got a good one for Sat night.”

“Excellent restaurant in hotel and a very helpful, cordial staff. Loved the "old world" flavor of the hotel, but was disappointed in parking availability. Very expensive overnight parking; only valet service. Biggest disappointment was "no shuttle service" to airport and expensive cabs.”

- The water pressure in the shower was almost non-existent
“Wonderful place except for the water pressure. Staff was very friendly and helpful, rooms were charming and not cookie cutter chain decor, restaurant/bar facilities very good and it's very centrally located. As I said though, the water pressure in the bath/shower was very poor, just a trickle two of the three days I stayed there.”

- It was a unique older boutique hotel in the middle of a high tech area of the regular more modern chain hotels
- Older hotel that I feel did not have all the ammenities of more modern hotel. Only valet parking was available at a fairly high charge.
“The lobby was graciously furnished in the old elegant European style. It is a well restored boutique type hotel. The rooms were well appointed although not the elegance of the lobby.The only available parking was valet at a rather steep fee per day, plus tips. The valets were very courteous and always swift in retrieving your vehicle. ”

“We felt very fortunate to book this hotel and the price that we did. It was the 2nd night of the U2 concert and rooms were hard to come by. We were treated great, checkin was a breeze and the rooms were clean and darling in character. My only complaint was the hefty valet parking fee as the hotel does not have it's own parking garage or lot.”

- No airport transportation except taxi. Paper thin walls (we got little sleep). Noisy downtown location.
“Very nice early 20th century hotel, finely renovated. Excellent but relatively inexpensive Italian restaurant. San Jose caltrain passes directly by hotel, affording easy transportation north - south. Parking is free on weekends in adjacent public (not secure) parking lot. Otherwise about $16/night.”

- The room was clean and looked nice.
- The beds were old and incredibly uncomfortable. I slept so poorly and am still having severe back pain.
“Most of the hotel looked nice enough. The hallways smelled a little stale, and could use some renovating, or at least a thorough cleaning. Our room was nice enough, and was very clean, but the deal-breaker was the beds. They were old and so uncomfortable. I can't believe that a three-star hotel would have beds like that. When I pulled back the sheets, it was apparant just by looking that the beds were well past their expiration dates. For this reason, I absolutely would not stay at the Hyatt Sainte-Claire again. Three days later, I'm still in a lot of pain because of the uncomfortable bed. ”

- Mandatory Valet Parking/Few Amenities
“The hotel itself is beautiful. Excellent location if working or visiting downtown. My first night there, there were not any wash cloths in the room, coffee maker was not there, No bath soap and a lot of interfearance i.e. when cell phone would ring, it would cause static on tv. In-room phone had a lot of static. Asked directions from one parking valet, and he suggested I use the internet. Overall Poor experience. ”

“This hotel is terrible. Any room where you can hear the conversations (and other noises) of all the sorrounding rooms leads to a poor experience. I could not sleep because of all the noise from the rooms around me. In addition, the room is not very clean and is quite small. The TV is not directly facing the bed.Overall, a terrible experience. ”

“The hotel itself is fine, quite nice actually. The biggest drawback has to do with locating this property in the same area as San Jose airport, leading one naturally to believe that the hotel would have airport transportation. ”

- The desk person who checked us in was very helpful.
- Parking cost $18 and when we checked out, the desk person was not very helpful
“It is as very nice, old, building. The ceilings are very high and there are antiques in the rooms. The food at the restaurant on the ground floor, Il Fornio (SP?) is VERY good. There are no amenities such as Jacuzzi or pool, though, and it cost $18 to park overnight.”

- It was a beautiful hotel with beautiful furnishings. The bed was so comfortable.
“Hotel St. Claire was truly a 3-star hotel with beautiful furnishings and the most comfortable bed I have ever slept in. The staff was helpful and friendly and the location was ideal, right in the heart of downtown San Jose. I would highly recommend it to everyone.”

- Beautiful lobby
- Run down, old-fashioned, dingy room
“The lobby of the Hyatt St. Claire is so beautiful, it takes your breath away. Then, when you go to your room, you are stunned by the contrast. The rooms are probably 60 years old. They are dingy and worn looking. The walls are thin. While the hotel has done a credible job of making the rooms look homey with antiques, they are still old and yellow. This historic hotel needs freshening up!”

- I don't like having to pay extra for internet service.
“The Hyatt Saint Claire is a landmark" hotel that has turn-of-the century (20th, that is) amenities and decor. Their in-house restaurant, "Il Fornaio" is truly outstanding for breakfast, lunch or dinner, Italian style. While some of the physical aspects of the hotel could be upgraded a bit, it was basically clean and comfortable."”

- For a downtown location it was good
- It was a downtown location and I needed an airport location for free parking and a free shuttle service
“If I wanted to stay downtown, this hotel would be fine, except for the condition of the room. The location specified was around San Jose Airport and I have always been put into a hotel near the airport. The benefit is free parking while on my trip and a free shuttle which saves me time in the morning. ”

- I loved the lobby and the painting in the bathroom.
- I wanted an airport location, it cost me $24.00 for transportation.
