• The guest services coordinator was very friendly and helpful all week.
• The internet access in the lobby was down for several days. Room access camped though.

“Aptly qualifies as a 4-star hotel but lacks some biz traveler needs. Wireless (either free or pay) should be available in the rooms. Room was very nice and comfortable but should include a coffee maker. Staff was very helpful and attentive.”

• I was given excellent service in spite of the low price I paid.
• No comment.

“Two things make a hotel visit excellent for me: ambiance and service. I imagine it's difficult to give a large hotel chain like Marriott that classy appeal; but they certainly achieve it in San Jose, and I experienced the same at Marriott in Denver last week. The staff is also top notch. Thanks for the great service.”

• Location, nice decor, great for business travelers.
• Request for king bed made day before not met, front desk responded rather condescendingly.

“Great location!!! Right next to the convention center in the heart of downtown San Jose. Most of the staff was friendly and helpful. Downside, my room was on the convention center side which has reflective material on the outside. There are no heavy curtains to block the light only shears, it was hard to sleep once daylight broke.”

• Nicely appointed room and bathroom; very clean.
• Lack of food in lobby cafe in evening.

“We stayed at this hotel very briefly (about 6 hrs) before flying out of San Jose. We were very impressed by its quality, and I was amazed that I could get a room like this for such a low price. We both wished we could have stayed longer.”

• Steep parking fees, restrictions on pool use.

“A fine hotel, with three minus points given the location, the proposed parking rates were outrageous. They were higher than adjacent properties, with complimentary parking being the rule for properties as little as a mile away. They charge for local calls, unless you buy the Internet package. Once you activate the package, they will bill you to the end of your stay, even if you only want/need to use it one day. Forget using the pool if you travel by yourself - they require a 'buddy'.”

• The hotel was well maintained, clean, quiet and comfortable.
• When checking in, we were not asked what kind of room (2 beds, nonsmoking) we wanted & were given a room when other preferences may be available.

“The hotel was beautiful and staff was respectful. The beds were very comfortable, and the standard room was spacious. Everything was in perfect working order and well maintained. We had a great stay and a good night's sleep. The chocolate in the room upon arrival was a nice touch.”

• Did not like not being able to get another roll-away bed.

• Staff warned 7th floor hallway lights turned off and did not promptly address it. Expensive parking $19.

“Thoroughly enjoyed my stay at Downtown Marriott The hotel staff always have smiles when they greet you at the entrance or at the front desk. Rooms are colorfully decorated and cozy. Enough room for 20 people to party. Large quality queen beds. I didn't like that parking was $19 per day (valet). However, a rental car may not be needed because the hotel is walking distance to many downtown destinations. If you will have a car for several days, you can park across the street in a small public lot for $8 a day, in a nearby structure for $12 per day or try Great America Marriott No happy hour at hotel bar, but had several big screens that were great for watching sports. False fire security alarm on 7th floor, SJFD responded quickly. somehow, lights on that floor were turned off and the staff had to be told to turn them back on.”

• Convenient to all of San Jose, comfortable room, quiet location.
• No parking and No free internet - You must use Valet parking for a fee and pay for internet service.

“Another excellent Marriott hotel with a great restaurant located in downtown San Jose with convenient access to the convention center, airport and freeways. However, I will not stay here again because there is only Valet parking for a fee and Internet service is for a fee.”

• No hotel parking onsite. The only parking was valet which cost $19.00 per day.

“Thought the hotel was beautifully decorated for the holidays. It was great to have a Peet's coffee shop inside the hotel, very convenient. The hotel was great, other than the fact at the same time we were there they were having a convention. A lot of kids attending the convention and had to wait to take the hotel elevator to our room. Otherwise I thought the hotel was centrally located and maintained.”

“Windows have a sheer curtain, only, so light streams in all night. They only have Pepsi in their machines. Beds are hard and showers slippery. Looks great, though.”

• The view from my room was great and the bed was ultimately comfortable.
• There was too much light from the outside, but I adjusted.

“For anyone staying in down town San Jose this is the perfect spot. Close to the best restaurants in the city, within walking distance to any where you'd want to be. From the front desk people to the bell staff, nothing but smiles and warmth. A great experience.”

“The hotel is convenient for people who have business in downtown San Jose. Lots of nice but pricey restaurants in the area. We had small children with us so we ended up at the only reasonable children friendly place, Johnny Rockets. Unless, you have business in downtown San Jose I would suggest you stay in adjoining areas, the valet parking is expensive.”

• $55 for a 4 Star hotel. Couldn't have done better.
• No self parking. Daily valet parking was $19 daily more than 1/3 of the hotel cost.

• This hotel was very clean, fabulous restaurant, good workout facility, and a great staff.
• Parking was $19 a night and there was no self parking. That was a surprise including all the tipping to go in and out.

• Self parking too far from hotel.

“This hotel was easy to get to, although we had a long walk from the parking garage to the hotel for the self parking option. The rooms were clean and nice and the barn style bathroom door was a nice touch. The bed was extremely comfortable. The staff were helpful and very friendly. It is within walking distance to most of the restaurants and bars in the downtown area. Overall, it was a great value for the price we paid.”

• It was exceptionally clean and service was swift.
• Parking in THEIR garage was $19/day. This should be included for guests. Also, internet and phone had to be paid.

“Overall, this was excellent in cleanliness and efficiency. However, their prices are deceptive as they charge for so many basic items other hotels offer free of charge to guests such as internet access, phone, expensive parking. To have these plan on a minimum of $30 more per night.”
